Paul sitting on the toilet needs to be a feature going forward 😉 great video and as mentioned on your last video I am loving the American carrier reports.
I think this particular aircraft is designated for shorter routes with the removal of items like IFE and small bathroom. It’s clearly geared up for MAX passenger and MAX efficiency. I flew in one of Delta’s refitted A320 from JFK to Orlando and at just over a couple of hours flight, there’s IFE, legroom was generous for economy and with the refitted cabin interior bins and lighting gave this aircraft an appeasing sense like the Max interior. Great reports paul, thoroughly enjoy them, top top job!
The MAX is designed for American’s longest routes and is being deployed on DCA-LAX and MIA-LAX. The greatest benefit of the MAX is the range and efficiency in the cruise.
Paul's Trip Reports I think this is a massive opportunity they have wrong here paul. Just that bathroom issue alone and no IFE will be their short fall which is a shame.

The seating issue is becoming a trend. Several US airlines are branding their premium economy seats, or highly similar ones, as first class seats. Hawaiian and United come to mind, depending upon which aircraft it is, and how it is outfitted. The issue for me, as someone who will pay more for more leg room in first class, is that the seats aren't all that comfy. The slimline seats may weight less, which is great for fuel burn assuming the airlines don't jam pack more seats in, but after a few hours my back is aching. The thick padding of earlier generation airline seats is long gone, sadly.
I recently flew from Brisbane to Cairns a short 2 hr flight with Qantas in Business class on a 737-800 seats much bigger more legroom, pre departure drink of still or sparkling water was served in a glass. Non of the plastic cup shit. Hope to see you down under one day. Great Vlogs btw.
I can understand the removal of personal TV's on aircraft meant for short flights (less than 2 hours). But on longer flights it's nice to have so you don't have to worry about your battery dying (and outlets in economy aren't a guarantee either).
Wow, I never fly American anymore. If that's First Class I would be frightened to sit on the back. It's no doubt squish-villa. Usually the forward toilets are larger, the one in the rear must be even smaller. Yikes, this is an aircraft I will take pains to avoid. Thanks for another excellent report, Paul.
I think the spanish magazine is just used in Florida, Carribean & South America. As a lot of people in those regions speak spanish. (think its also on some flights to europe)
Hey Paul, I hope all is well? I have been following you for awhile now and throughly enjoy your videos. I was searching your older videos to see if you ever did a video showing your travel gear. Thing that makes you trips efficient and wait time less stressful. Things like passport case. I need to find a decent one. Thanks and looking forward to your other videos.
Considering AA has hubs in cities with large Spanish-speaking populations (Miami, Dallas, LA, Phoenix) it just makes sense to reflect that in their magazines.
Friendly correction: it's Dallas/Fort Worth. We also paid for the airport and half of it is within the city limits of Ft. Worth. None of it is in Dallas.
That was very interesting, given that I just travelled two days ago from SNN to YYZ in an Air Canada 737-8 Max and YYZ to SNN a couple of weeks ago on a similar flight (it still had that New Plane Smell!). I was travelling in Premium Economy (cost was more than your flight) but I had lounge access, the same seats (except that ours had large screens), white linen service with real cutlery, and excellent cuisine. I can’t speak to the lavatory experience as I found it just fine. I also had two pieces of checked in luggage (including a golf case) and there were $0 extra charges. I think your experience on this AA flight was not First Class, but Premium Economy or equivalent.
Paul, Nexos magazine (AA Spanish/Portuguese language publication) is standard-issue on all Caribbean & Lat. American flights. Therefore, planes that serve both domestic and Latin routes will have it on board. Also long haul ex JFK, DFW, MIA & LAX to South America.
I think you summed it up very well, Paul. It's all about the bottom line for the airlines (and I'm not singling AA out as they're all running more or less the same business model), is squeezing out every last penny they can, with passenger comfort a distant second. Another high quality video that informs in a most professional and unbiased manner.
Great video. I loved the lounge! Those toilets are small. In fact, these new lavatories was featured recently on Yahoo news I believe it was. I’m 6’ 6”!! I have a problem with the standard sized lavatories on the A330 and A340!!
You look like a guy I saw in at Kings Cross Station a few days ago ;D.. Either way, That toilet is pretty damn tiny, You're screwed if you're on the big side... Anyway nice report and looking forward to the remainder of the world tour :)
I ride a 3hour flight from surabaya to penang. And kt only cost me about $28 USD That deal is sooo cheap for a 3hour flight. Also i got a special livery flight painted in the A320neo
i have noticed that on most if not all domestic flights there is dual magazines with english and spanish. they started this sometime around 2010 to 2012.
I actually work for American, and so happen to be based out of Miami. I personally am not a fan of the 737 max. The slimming of the seats, smaller lavatories, and lack of utilities is a way for them to squeeze in more seats on the aircraft. It's a way for them to cut costs and balance the weight of plane for the additional passangers. It's a great profit move, but not necessarily a great customer experience.
yeah if they try to use this on a flight longer than 90 minutes no good! hopefully they are not doing that unless they have no choice on like a less busy route.
0neCrazyCracker It’s been a very long time since the carriers were concerned about their passengers needs People of all varieties are getting taller, and heavier, but seats are getting smaller with the pitch dramatically reduced from 33-34” down to as low as 27-28” which is pure hell when your knees are right up against the seat in front of you. I have to close my eyes, practice breathing techniques to try and relax when I’m in a seat with so little space I cannot move. No I’m not fat 6’ 1” 185 lbs, and I’m willing to pay for Economy Plus when it isn’t 2-3 times the economy fare. Don’t blame Boeing, blame the airlines who insist on pounding as many seats as they can into the same space. I will be very unhappy when I can no longer fly in a 757, The last of the comfortable narrow bodies
I’d say the top carrier-operated/owned lounges in NA would be the new Maple Leaf Lounges by AC. In Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver especially they have great food and alcohol selection and a dedicated kitchen area where cook them for you on demand. It’s accessible to all *Gold members traveling international. AC also offers an “AC Café Lounge” in YYZ that has awesome healthy options like fruits, veggies, fresh protein shakes/juices, and caffeinated drinks that rival any startbucks, accessible to all *Gold UA Polaris also has great lounges but they are only accessible to paid business class passengers, similar to AC’s Signature lounges.
Nice report Paul. I've flown on the A320NEO & E190-E2 this year and I'm trying to get the MAX added to my list before the end of the year, I'm thinking Air Italy, any ideas?
On the whole I don't like the new AA 737 MAX, but there are a few interesting points in economy. My row of choice is usually the 2nd of economy/main cabin extra since at my height I have more room with my feet under the seat in front rather than against the bulkhead, my narrow laptop bag fits in between my legs which means I have access to it at all times. For my first flight on one of these I got switched In the first row of economy/Main Cabin Extra. (Stayed with seat 8D as I originally chose, but it was positioned differently given the new aircraft. Rather than the flush wall of bulkhead usually seen, there is the back on the last row in business class. This leaves only two rear seat pockets between three passengers on either side of row 8. The armrests are also narrower than usual. There is room to put your feet under the seat in front but again, you would be sharing 2 of these between 3 passengers. The new internet provider (viasat) allowing access on the tarmac before pushback is fantastic though, the flight got delayed for two hours which was frustrating but I was able to work. I don't think I would be keen on this layout for more than a 2 hour flight.
MrGreatplum Yes it doesn’t look great. Though if you had lounge access for food then that could make up for it. Though I am not sure lounge access as part of the ticket is included.
Paul's Trip Reports That is something that makes little sense. If people are willing to pay the extra then it can actually make the difference in price more acceptable. Though I guess that if you only get a checked bag and slightly bigger seat then you might as well go economy.
Great video! I'm going to Toronto with the KLM 747! I'm on standby so maybe I'll get the jumpseat or even a business class seat! So excited. I know what to criticis because of your great videos😝 No I won't complain, i'm just very excited!
Could you post it without the music over the cabin sounds for the taxi and take off and NOT speed up for the takeoff? Some of us really enjoy that part. Please, thanks
Only an inch or so taller than you and with a similar build. That bathroom would be a very tight fit for me. Also, I'm going to be flying into the Orlando Airport in January from my home airport (Albany International (which despite the name, features no international flights)) so I'll be looking forward to seeing it when you post your next video!
Orlando is a popular destination for people from the UK as they go there for at least a month as the MCO-LGW is the most popular International route from Orlando.
A very nice video as usual, Paul. Though it was made a few months back, now with hind sight, I would avoid Boeing 737 MAX like plague, mostly due to its safety record. I agree with you that the lounge looked great. And the toilet on the plane was miniscule. I need to be shrunk several sizes to fit in that toilet. I prefer the normal Boeing 737-800 planes.
I was surprised to see that Miami Airport doesn't have the people mover between terminals any more. It had one when I was there, and it was very efficient, as Miami's terminals are arranged in a circle and not very far apart. As for that toilet, it reminded me of the ones you see on tour buses and intercity buses here - only WORSE!
They do, you have to go up to the roof to use it and you get an interesting view of the airport from there. Came in real handy when my wife and I had to go from one end to the other in less than 15 minutes to catch our connecting flight to Jamaica.
Then they moved the people mover... It used to be underground and from what I remember, it seemed to me to have been in the same corridor where Paul walked in the video. It has been many years since I was there and my memory may be failing me, but definitely there was no view and I didn't go to any roof to get there.
@@goytabr It was kinda weird as you get to really see the mechanical side of the terminals. It it was a quick ride and there were lots of signs for directions.
Yes, in Miami and Orlando there’s a big community of spanish speaking folks mostly from Cuba in Miami and PR in Orlando. There’s good market for spanish magazines.
The two best lounges I've experienced in North America were the Virgin Upper class lounge in SFO and the main Delta lounge in Atlanta. That being said - I'd rather visit a Centurion lounge if one was near my gate.
Excellent review of this new AA product. I do NOT think it is nearly as bad as many have claimed it to be on many travel blogs and online forums. But, you are correct in that it is a modest downgrade that is made up for by the increased ambiance offered by the new aircraft. The lavatories are truly terrible, though, and AA should be ashamed of those. But comparing them to a BA short haul aircraft, and they’re much better. Thanks!
The toilet looks much like the ones on commuter planes like the CRJ 900. I was once told by a flight attendant that I should enter facing the direction I needed, since turning around inside is impossible.

If now going to get on one of these planes remember to take a priest or molah with you!
Paul, great video pleased you called it a toilet and not a bathroom!!
Mike B - well you certainly couldn’t get a bath in there!
Mike B - I’m very much British :)
If you are upmarket, it is the lavatory!
Everybody knows it's actually called the bog.
r/whoosh
I can understand the removal of personal TV's on aircraft meant for short flights (less than 2 hours). But on longer flights it's nice to have so you don't have to worry about your battery dying (and outlets in economy aren't a guarantee either).
Oh yeah, I can't deny that BYOD reduces their costs significantly, which is why I'm not surprised that most legacy airlines are moving away from them.
The Spanish magazines are regional. I flew from Bolivia to Miami and everything was Spanish and Portuguese. Miami to Denver was all English
Miami is always the main hub to Latin American countries where American is the dominant us carrier.
@@werksdesign who cares tbh?
The Quality of An American Airlines is Speatcul Amazing.🤗
Great video. I loved the lounge! Those toilets are small. In fact, these new lavatories was featured recently on Yahoo news I believe it was. I’m 6’ 6”!! I have a problem with the standard sized lavatories on the A330 and A340!!
You look like a guy I saw in at Kings Cross Station a few days ago ;D.. Either way, That toilet is pretty damn tiny, You're screwed if you're on the big side... Anyway nice report and looking forward to the remainder of the world tour :)
I ride a 3hour flight from surabaya to penang. And kt only cost me about $28 USD
That deal is sooo cheap for a 3hour flight. Also i got a special livery flight painted in the A320neo
Heck darlin', I don't think a pencil could turn around, in that bathroom...lol. I've never seen a bathroom that small, on an airplane...lol.
Flown with frontier airlines alot, i prefer there stretch seating because of my long legs, hope you enjoy it
The toilet you visited up front is actually the wider version - the ones at the back are even narrower than that.
I definitely would struggle to squeeze into that toilet! Great video, Paul.
I was shocked when I saw it could barely accommodate me!
All this travel? Where does the funding come from?
Patreon, Ads, Sponsorships, Points...
i have noticed that on most if not all domestic flights there is dual magazines with english and spanish. they started this sometime around 2010 to 2012.
Always helpful travel videos!
You flew into Orlando International Airport, the Executive airport is the smaller airport closer to downtown.
Yes, that’s the one we flew past on the way in - featured in the video.
Thanks
I’d say the top carrier-operated/owned lounges in NA would be the new Maple Leaf Lounges by AC. In Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver especially they have great food and alcohol selection and a dedicated kitchen area where cook them for you on demand. It’s accessible to all *Gold members traveling international. AC also offers an “AC Café Lounge” in YYZ that has awesome healthy options like fruits, veggies, fresh protein shakes/juices, and caffeinated drinks that rival any startbucks, accessible to all *Gold
UA Polaris also has great lounges but they are only accessible to paid business class passengers, similar to AC’s Signature lounges.
I love your old school LEGO t-shirt. Did you buy it in Denmark?
And oh, I would have a hard time squeezing into that toilet. I'm 6'4'' and 210, so it looks like a nightmare
No, it was actually from Singapore, although you’ve reminded me I really should visit the original Legoland in Billund...!
Nice report Paul. I've flown on the A320NEO & E190-E2 this year and I'm trying to get the MAX added to my list before the end of the year, I'm thinking Air Italy, any ideas?
Thanks for the videos, you've helped me decide to never fly unless absolutely necessary.
Another great video, Paul. Keep up the good work
On the whole I don't like the new AA 737 MAX, but there are a few interesting points in economy.
Another great video, Paul - I’m not sure I’d bother for ‘first class’ on such a short flight with AA...
Oh, and I’m 6ft 2 - wouldn’t fancy that toilet!
MrGreatplum Yes it doesn’t look great. Though if you had lounge access for food then that could make up for it. Though I am not sure lounge access as part of the ticket is included.
David Lazarus - I don’t think it is in the states...
It’s not included as part of the ticket - only got in there because of my airline status.
Paul's Trip Reports That is something that makes little sense. If people are willing to pay the extra then it can actually make the difference in price more acceptable. Though I guess that if you only get a checked bag and slightly bigger seat then you might as well go economy.
Your night shots are amazing! May I ask what camera is it?
That aside, nice review!
Great video! I'm going to Toronto with the KLM 747! I'm on standby so maybe I'll get the jumpseat or even a business class seat! So excited. I know what to criticis because of your great videos😝 No I won't complain, i'm just very excited!
Hey Paul loving the videos lately especially since you changed to the voiceovers. Could you suggest a good cabin bag (uk) for under £50 please .
I'd be curious about your thoughts on the A220-100. It's a stunning craft to look at, I wonder how it stacks up.
paul do you prefer delta, american or united
Delta
Could you post it without the music over the cabin sounds for the taxi and take off and NOT speed up for the takeoff? Some of us really enjoy that part. Please, thanks
Only an inch or so taller than you and with a similar build. That bathroom would be a very tight fit for me. Also, I'm going to be flying into the Orlando Airport in January from my home airport (Albany International (which despite the name, features no international flights)) so I'll be looking forward to seeing it when you post your next video!
Great video again Paul!
Loving your reviews. Keep the great work up!
Paul, what date was this? Was wondering if it was any time near when I flew on June 23rd
I prefer the normal Boeing 737-800 planes.
you deserve more subscribers your really good!
What was the lavatory design issue?
Paul have you considered getting an Osmo? I think it’ll improve your videos greatly!
Was it AA on their LAX-NYC service had a 1+1 full sleeper First Class A-321Neo Red eye? It was very expensive as well.
Just curious to know Paul, why did you fly such a short distance? It wouldn't have been easier/cheaper to drive to Orlando from Miami?
Of course, just realised it was a connection from JFK duhhhh :D
Great report always Paul.
Great report. Thanks.
Nice!!!! You lived to tell the story!!!! ;)
Thanks!
You survived the MAX
Should wear your top during a spirit flight report. Great content as usual 👌👌
Perfect video as always, loved it
When are you going to review this airline in the back ground at 2:41?
The toilet looks much like the ones on commuter planes like the CRJ 900. I was once told by a flight attendant that I should enter facing the direction I needed, since turning around inside is impossible.
there should be a little pop out drink tray in the center arm rest of that seat
If that was the toilet in first class I wonder what it's like in coach! LOL
Hey Paul, I will be flying through the US in late October and I will be flying in an 737 max I am curious about the bathroom size as I am 6 foot 3 and have back issues, do you feel as if I could just about fit in the bathrooms or is this a silly question to ask ?
Brilliant Review !
I’m going to miss the loud engines tho because with the upgrades they are getting quieter 😢😢
As an American Airlines agent, I can tell you that the Nexos magazines are distributed nationwide (USA). This is only on main line American planes, American Eagle does not carry them on board.
Love your videos...thank you!
Did you credit the miles to BA?
Yes.
