Update: Scoot proactively emailed me after they saw this video and asked for my booking reference so they could offer a full response. I don’t wish to take any complaint with them further, not least because I wouldn’t want the flight attendant who spoke to me to get in trouble. This flight happened in June, and what happened to me was a genuine mistake even if it was handled poorly by the crew (not withstanding any language barrier). I wouldn’t want anyone getting into trouble because some airline vlogger made a critical video. That’s not a straight fight.
Scoot pointed out that Biz customers can order a premium meal which it seems I hadn’t done, despite thinking I had. Let’s chalk that one up to my error, and experience. The meal I did get still wouldn’t pass muster in economy class though, so my criticism of it stands.
The rest of the criticism in the video stands unchallenged. Ultimately, this video has gained a lot of views, split opinion, and the financial return from advertising has exceeded the cost of the ticket.
Scoot deserve credit for contacting me proactively and attempting to take ownership of the failings I describe, and so they can have a second chance... next year, I’ll take them on an Australian long haul route, paid for out of my own pocket of course. Scoot won’t know when I’m going to travel, so it’ll be interesting to see if I have a better experience!
    Thanks for watching 😊

Hey Paul. I took a flight on Scoot last week ( SIN - MAA).. The cabin crew was so nice contrary to what I expected. I think one bad crew attendant spoilt your experience..

    • @americanmade6996
      @americanmade6996 6 лет назад +176

I think you should give them your booking info. They seem to be making an effort to correct things, and it's only fair to accept their effort to improve. If you dismiss yourself as "some airline vlogger", why should anyone take your criticism seriously? The flight attendant may or may not get in trouble, but if she was wrong she needs correction, maybe training. Without correction for her poor judgment this is likely to happen again and maybe worse; what if next time she causes the passenger to be met by police at arrival? Scoot has asked you to help them fix something, and you are not doing anyone any favors by not doing so.

If I’m honest, I don’t know what the employment rights situation is like in Singapore, though I expect the employee isn’t be afforded the same protections I enjoy in my job in Britain. I don’t wish to accept any compensation or redress from Scoot, as I made clear, this video was much more successful than I expected. I’ve ended up profiting from my experience, and that’s that. Don’t push your luck is my motto.
They’ll get a chance to correct their perception next year, where I’ll reinvest some of the money earned from this video back into another ticket with them. I think I was fair in pointing out where they’d offered a factual correction in their response (re: the meal situation).
People don’t have to take my criticism seriously. I’m just some bloke travelling the world and filming going on planes; I travel as an ordinary passenger. I don’t think I am particularly special! I find that being myself and not claiming to be some self-appointed authority in the field of airline reviews is a much easier way to run the channel and live my life. My subscriber base tells me they really like that about the channel. 😊

Most ordinary passengers don't have a platform and an audience; you do. However, I do appreciate your attitude and outlook. There have been hundreds of fellow passengers I wish I could've traded for one like you, even if it meant taking a dreaded center seat (okay, maybe not that). But I really enjoy your reviews.

Oh boy Scoot LOL. I was considering flying them 2 years ago to Ho Chi Min City tho opted out. Flew Jetstar instead which I must say that the meals which we paid for was actually pretty good compared to that dogs breakfast that was offered to you on Scoot. If you are willing to pay then budget Airlines should give you a premium meal no matter what class you travel. Leave it to the customer to choose. Why they don't opt this is beyond me.

Only credit card and cash, and was really thirsty and hungry on an 8 hours. Only had a few bucks just barely enough purchased a small bottle of water. The fact that Air Asia accepts debit card and Scoot doesn’t is beyond me. Based on my experience, Scoot is better than Air Asia in terms of seating comfort and the Boeing 787 is a great aircraft. I flew on scoot, from SG to Taiwan and the best joke that my family hear from me before the plane took off- "sis, bro, scoot says that the A/C broke down. It will get cooler when it's in the air." well, it does. at least I wasn't frozen from the extreme cold air.

When I'm flying as crew in turbulence, the first place I always check is the toilets!!! I then make the same decision you did, weather it's safe for you to make your way back to your seat or stay in the toilet. We've even had passengers sat on the crew jumpseats before!
I have all the sympathy for you and the crew on that flight should be ashamed of themselves.
    Excellent video btw!

I've been flying on Southwest when we hit severe clear air turbulence flying over the Rockies, and the flight crew told me to sit in one of the crew jumpseats rather than go back to my seat until the turbulence subsided. Makes perfect sense, if I were to go bouncing around the cabin I would just hurt myself and others.

Good call on that 'stay put' decision. With CAT things have already entered the unknown to a degree and the golden rule there If In Doubt ... Don't. At the end of the day the crew can spout whatever laws and regulations they like ... But man is master of their own fate and (mostly through impulsivity or temptation) ends up being their own worst enemy. But short sightedness and training methods which I disagree with totally lead to the transfer of all of what I feel is wrong into Duty Flying Crew carrying out their duties. Here is one of the best examples of why I have got BEEF and what it is all about: Would you mind if I mentioned this video when I need an example of what I'm driving at please?

It's pretty common on Australian carriers that you need the right app on your phone in order to use the in-flight Wi-Fi based entertainment system.
But it's also pretty common for the airline to announce this once everyone is onboard, well before they close the cabin door, so you still have time to download it before flight-mode is required.

Ok, my two boys and I just flew with Scoot economy: Gold Coast-Singapore 787, Singapore-Saigon A320, Hanoi-Singapore A320, Singapore-Gold Coast.
Price- Aud $1850, and that's after paying for seat selection on all four flights for all three of us, extra baggage for myself, and a meal each on the daytime GC-Sin leg.
They were $100 cheaper/person than AirAsia who cram you 9 abreast in their A330.
They were almost half the price of the full service carriers. So I saved about $1500.
Everything was fine, I'll fly with them again. Most people bought their own snacks on board and empty water bottles to refill. The service was 'efficient', the seats on the 787 were firm but ok.

I enjoyed your video however, we had a much better experience with them last year SIN-SYD. Booked a very cheap eco ticket and upgraded via their bidding process for about £75 to biz. Would never reply on lowcost food or entertainment in the first place - biz or not. Boarding was fine (DMK everyone knows is a dive) and the Seat was large and comfy. Staff were good. One thing I did notice on the 787: the carpet at the front was ruined. Most wide bodied aircraft will use air bridges, but low cost are typically out on the tarmac dragging in wet dirt!
You get what you pay for and if travelling low cost long haul, take your iPad, eat before/take a snack on board, use a lounge to make the experience more relaxing.

I just cannot agree more with your video!! I used to work in a ground service handler for Scoot in Sydney as both Customer Services and Load Controller before, I've got to say we have tired so hard to give customers the best experiences we can offer in Sydney. With that being said, Scoot have always made it difficult and still is one of the worst airline to work with. The average turn around time is only around 60 mins in most ports, that would include offloading 375 pax, cleaning only 20 mins, engineering checks, then start loading another 375 pax, every minute of delay will be charge back to us. This is also the reason why you won't see priority boarding because the aircraft is still cleaning, the ground team got to start boarding everyone before it gets delay, yet Scoot still charges passenger for priority boarding. Aircraft is known for being dirty anyway but 20 mins on a 787-8 / -9 would only include throwing rubbish, a quick vacuum plus tidying your seat so that it LOOKS tidy. It is very normal for airlines to cause a delay due to aircraft swap or maintenance issues, but Scoot always tries to waiver their responsibility whenever they can, especially those passengers that have other connections afterwards. All they do is to tell passengers to call up a hotline which takes 2hrs to connect to somewhere in Manila for assistance, yet check in is about to close for the next 10 mins. Our supervisors have often shout at them on the phone, trying to bargain for whats right for delayed passengers. With Load Control, we use to have only 4 days of training where it should have been 2 weeks, a buddy training of 4 shifts instead of a month. As a result, if there are any dangerous goods been loaded, no one really know how to load, what to load inside these flights. Worst of all is that, now they have hired a load control office somewhere in South Africa that does not know what they are doing. I have seen them loaded with all cargo and baggage onto the right side only, which of coz is not allowed and can cause the aircraft imbalance, keep rolling towards one side

My close colleague from Singapore had tried it once from Singapore to Melbourne. He called it a Refugee Airline and on the same level of bad service of its brother Tigerair. In a few years' time, it may have to repeat what it did for Tiger Air. Renaming it to another name to cover up previous bad public image. Refugee Airline is probably a good name for its next rebranding.

Worth sending your video to the Board of Directors of the company. We are looking to go to Japan next year and I would never fly with them. £37 for a meal gosh daylight robbery! Logic says on medium to long-haul food and soft drinks should be free and charge for alcoholic drinks. Do they search your bags for crisps and chocolate, how about do they steal baby food? FWIW, wife and I have flown Scoot Plus (formally Scoot Biz) from SYD to SIN and SIN to SYD twice now in 2018 and 2019 and we are booked to fly with them again this October. Meals are booked online when you book your ticket and nominate your seat. Meals so far have been fine and the staff I have had no problems with, either. Check-in we have priority, same with boarding. Luggage allowance is about 50% more than eco.
Twice now, on the SYD to SIN flight, we have been placed on a Singapore Airlines 777 and put in business class. Sure, we didn't have all the trappings of BC, but it was OK with me. In 2018 we had lay-flat beds, in 2019 it was conventional type biz seats. On the SIN to SYD flight it has always been on the 787 and we have selected row A both times. MASSIVE amounts of leg room, seats are great, and recline is way more than eco.
For the money, it is a total no-brainer.
We flew Singapore Airlines 777 eco to SIN in 2017 and nearly lost my mind I was so uncomfortable! I had to constantly get up to walk around and stretch in the isles to get blood flow back into my legs. The seat was like rock!

I knew it was a budget airline and prepared my self appropriately before each flight. For example, I knew what the luggage costs were and ate before flying. On both flights the aircraft left on time and arrived at the destinations on time. I expected nothing more than that, and was pleased with the general demeanour of the flight crew. I got exactly what I paid for. Thanks Scoot.

I flew Scoot from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur last year. I knew that budget airline food is usually overpriced & looks nicer in the menu, so I packed two slabs of fruit toast with jam, and a canteen with water filled up near the gate. As long as your food is not messy & is compact (meal replacement bars, protein bars, etc.), they usually don't bother. For entertainment, it was a book & MP3's preloaded into my phone. I usually don't bother with priority boarding as you will end up in the same plane & leave at the same time anyway.
