There is no bedrock in the Portuguese Bend peninsula of which Rolling Hills is a part. The substrate has layers of clay! This is not rain or climate change related. It has been happening to parts of the Ca coast for decades. Why did govt regulators issue building permits. Why would anyone risk living there? Who would insure this type of loss? Many hillside and cliff topping homes exist, but they are on solid terra firma or have supporting substructure that goes into bedrock.

I remember driving up the hill behind a line of dump trucks and later asking a ftiend what were they doing there. He said there's a landfill up there. They dump area by area covering the trash with dirt as they move down hill. Then, they build houses on top of it after "it settles." Somebody needs to start a book on the history of the area. This is a landslide? No housing dropping straight down 10 feet and from a lot of fissures and there was NO quake. The only quake was hundreds of miles north on July 2nd at 3.8. No landslides there either. Something seems to have caused fissure like a frequency weapon or underground tunnel activity, dynamite on the 4th of July or underground cave in, is all I can think of besides mother earth.

Whaaaaaat? Nobody knows what’s causing these landslides?. On the contrary, there are detailed maps, showing the long lasting slope failure in this region of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. They should never have been allowed to build their mansions on that material. It’s been moving for over 50 years. So get your facts right LA times. I hope they don’t get FEMA money to rebuild their mansions after their stent at the Ritz Carlton.

Maybe the rich shouldn't build houses in places they can't afford to lose it all

For real, I don't feel at all sorry for them. I often say in comments on various videos that maybe one day they will become like the homeless or poor they claim deserve it. I pray it happens to every single rich person. Then and only then will they learn that "whatsoever you do to the least of these people, you did the same to me."

@@namename1 Doesn't matter. If it's one person, they can still afford a multi-million dollar house. If it's a firm, they probably have even more money.

@@SunnyAquamarine2 you sound just like another loser who blame everybody's else for their problem, or a person who join riots simply because you want to "get even". most of them are rich for a reason. dedication, persistent, high salary professional. even if shit happens and them ended up on streets, they will get back up and make that money back in no time. Most of them will buy another house in a year or two.
Same logic apply to those homeless people. They are homeless for a reason. Drug addiction, mental illness, plain-and-simple laziness.
