The place is named Rolling Hills, well, they rolled. Truly hope these are folks who can afford this sort of thing, those are expensive homes and to some it may be a shrug and a write off, but to others it may be a tragedy.
😂
They are already talking about giving them relief on their tax bills and other help. That’s what happens when you’re rich. People who have far less have to constantly call the county assessors for get help.
Its utterly remarkable to me just how many people who can afford multi million dollar homes listened to NOTHING in their highschool geology class....
What do you mean? I ask because we didn't get "geology" here.
Luxury homes? They are tract homes built in the 70s with good views built In a bad location.
You know if they change the name and call it something else that’s all it takes.
Exactly Cheap townhomes with overprice sales due to Realtors putting lipstick on a pig
Sorry for all of those who lost their homes. This is just the beginning.
We’re Shifting!!!! In more ways than we think.
YOU have nothing to do with this. As you are NOT The GODHEAD/THE EARTH HERSELF. This is the works of GODS HANDS/SOUL. You will not take credit for work that GOD is doing. You can admire GODS power, but you will not claim this as something that you, or humanity is responsible for.
your absolutely right
I think you're right, lenny...
@@deak4032: i hope you accidentally posted your reply to the wrong comment.....if this was not a mistake, take your meds.
Enlighten us on how we’re shifting “more ways than we think”?
Thank you for sharing this story. I hope no one was in these homes hurt!!
I hope their pets made it out all right.
if owners are able to get out then pets will. They are Smart!
I feel the earth move under my feet.
California has had landslides as long as I can remember. They also have serious building codes. Couldn't a geologist determine if anything could/should be built on any given piece of land? Or do we follow the money?
I mean who knew building luxury houses where landslides are likely to occur would be a fantastic way of collecting insurance money.
Landslides are routinely excluded from insurance coverage. Their only chance might be to sue the geologist who was involved in the construction, but that was long ago.
dont worry LA County will not collect your property tax while your house is rolling down the hill
The house and land don’t exist. But in this area, houses have moved into other peoples property through the years. The city does nothing about it.
oh no they said relief not exemption AND rates will need to increase to make up the loss in tax dollars by increasing all other fees and taxes
Nah you'll still pay property tax on the land
@@thevillage38 even if 3/4 fell into other property
What a tragedy for the people who live there 😞. The name Rolling Hills should hold a clue for this devastation 😢
This is so sad. I use to live on Armaga Spring Road, very close too these homes, and this just breaks my heart for the homeowners and their families. May God Bless and Protect and Help them get through this. Amen 🙏✝️
walmart has tents for $24
The name rolling hills might be a hint of some trouble to come
This was the way the home was designed. It’s the style
good news less yard to maintain
So sad 😢
Can't wait to see if insurance will cover this or come up with some excuse.
I heard State Farm refuses to offer homeowner’s insurance in California 😮
...like... you should have taken care of that retaining wall.
Landslides sre not covered by standard policies.
They reported on international news that insurance wasn't covering this .
It’s act of God not insurance fault
How they got a permit to build a house at first place?
It's the builders job to stabilize the foundation not the county's job to insure its adequate.
Proper maintenance could have prevented this.
there are enough crooked developers and politicians to approve anythign that the rich people want. I wonder how many of these homes are owned by rich chinese from mainland.
All hills side homes are given permit to build. Check out the entire West and East Coast. Same.
12 homes.
16 residents. 😮
Those numbers are way different than the numbers in my neighborhood. There are at least 16 residents in half a block here.
Wishing them comfort though in this very difficult time.
They’re fine they’ll just go to another property of theirs. These are not cheap houses at all!
I bet these are Air BNB homes and they were making some serious omney.
@@kanank13, you know what they say…
omney talks.
@@hoosiernative9668They're mid-range actually; attached townhomes, with amenities in common.
@@hoosiernative9668 these are townhomes. I wouldn’t say Most of these people are rich.
We are going to get more this Winter. Heavy precipitation is being anticipated.
Geologists know why this is occurring as do the government agencies. They fail to disclose as not to panic the real estate market sales.
Well just keep building bigger and bigger and I’m sure it won’t happen again.
Who gave the approval to build in that area?
OMG! A home built on the "slide area" slides. GENIUS KTLA! NEWS!!!!!!
The structural engineers and soils engineer who were hired for the tract project will have written recommendations for maintaining
structures on the property. The reports should reveal a discrepancy between recommendations and maintenance of the hilldide properties.
no one knew we had record rainfall last year.
Not good to live on the edge
Add them to your L-O-N-G list of homeless folks.
No they won’t be homeless. These people will move to one of their other homes while getting help for this one.
Did the developer not do a geological study or n EIR?
It use to be a Garbage dump years ago😮
Only the finest for the rich bishes.
Compaction was poor obviously.
Where is the bottom? How much more can they fall? Can we see them from the back side?
Opposite side neighbors property value just skyrocketed… beach front property now!!!!
😢
Palos Verdes,Palo Alto ??
Wow😢no insurance s
Never have to worry about your neighbor's tree anymore.
I get there there is no land left in CA and people need places to live, but WHY are you building homes on hillsides? I would not buy a home on a freaking hillside. There are so many landslides in CA every rainy season that it just makes no sense at all. It's horrible their home collapsed. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, ever. That said...please buy your next home on FLAT ground and not on a California hillside!
Because there is a high demand for it and people like a nice view. They want to be close to the ocean, mountains etc.
@@pinkroses9320 Sure, who doesn't, but in California where earthquakes and landslides are so common, you have to be next level unintelligent to do that.
@@imscanon it comes with risks of course but some people just don’t care or feel like it’s worth it. you should see the ones isolated hanging off the edge of a cliff with the ocean or canyon below. if that cliff moves one day their whole house will fall right into the ocean or drop and smash into the ground.
@@pinkroses9320 Well, I'm sure these folks are regretting it now,,,
Politicians coming around for a photo opportunity but they will probably disappear when it’s time to write the checks to make these people whole when insurance never comes
They neglected the retaining walls and everyone waited for someone else to do something. It most likely started with bad drainage .
100% avoidable ..... going to be fun when the insurance comes up with the same conclusion.
Perhaps the oil pumped out of the ground left a big ole hole that is finally filling in.. bet the home owners had a nice big carbon footprint.
Geology or geotechnical engineering is not exact. I doubt these homes were built with extensive soil investigation and engineered foundation design and slope protection. Buying a hillside home is risky…
The plates are moving, tell them the truth, watch Dutchsinse
that could happen to me i'm on a sinking hillside

You think they would think twice about living in a area called Rolling Hills.

I agree 👍 with ktla....
Garcetti and DA gascon and Karen bass have destroyed los angeles
Yes, let’s call it a state emergency for a few dozen affected while thousands were homeless before this incident. Way to go,newsom.
Could this be an act of terrorism, since they don't have a clue, every possibility should be investigated and looked into, I just pray that the truth will be found out.
Those crap shacks are far from Luxury.....
Thanks for channel 5,! Forgive that real important information for the neighborhood!… and that is sinkhole !
This is easy too understand. The Universe,, it demands and only works in a balance. The blessings bestowed need not be taken for granted.
In other words, whether inherited wealth, or self made wealth, those who helped you attain your goals on un delivered promise's,, this might be your warning. It also could be your end of oppulant living.

Terrible situation? It's a hill side...what did you expect? Who insures this nonsense?
California, tumbles into the sea... (Steely Dan, 1973). I understand insurance companies are walking away from California right now.
Rolling hill estates 😂😂😂😂
So sad I can't stop my tears. As many times when i see things like this> much like other people that build house on the side of a hill our next to a river that floods a lot or on a ocean beach. Where is my Kleenex ?
The city will give relief on the tax bills so they can avoid confiscation for unpaid taxes and leave the homeowners responsible for cleanup
Partners?
Bull...
Oh good property taxes go away, maybe all previously paid taxes should be refunded since county did Not verify it was real land?????
At lest the mail box still in place
Any housing gas lines?
They should call it rolling homes not hills

Building code geologist engineers?
that's why they call them, Rolling Hills 😁
This should drive my insurance up. So glad to subsidize multi-millionaires. No sh*s given.
No insurance for landslides. You should feel sorry for these people.
I wonder why it's called Rolling Hills?
Greed to get more tax revenue...build homes on the historically unstable ground...the roadway in places undulates like corduroy pants with utility lines running alongside.
Glad no one died! There insurance will pay them millions
I bet the homes will attract looters.
Godzilla …
No, "TREMORS"!!! :)
the poor rich
Hopefully some of these homeowners have some money saved, or else there will be a few more homeless on the streets in LA or Santa Monica looking for a place to put up a tent. California is doomed and falling apart under good old Gavin Newsome. Haven't heard any word from him about helping these people out !! You know the insurance companies will not cover this type of loss.
I’m sure they have plenty of money in the bank or relatives that have money and big houses where they can stay ,you should worry about yourself in case of an emergency unless you’re one of those millions of people living on trailer parks or section 8 that can moved to a shelter in case an emergency situation 😂😂😂
Good thing these people are rich and they can go live in one of their other homes.
Would you want that to happen to you if you were rich?
@@nuttybar9 I was rich, but thanks to rising interest rates I'm poor.
The earth is changing they need to start think twice before they build new homes on the side of Cliffs and Hillsides, Earth Tremors and landslides will get worse.
