Stop building houses on the coast. Coast should be available to public, not private parties.
What are you a commie?
Amen
Stop building structures where they shouldn’t be built
Thank you!
No kidding eh? What astonishes me is that the city approved the building permits knowing that this might happen.
Not to mention the earthquake issues..
You mean like all of Florida?
Yes!
I recall 40 years ago as a geology professor explained the constant creep of these slopes and how building any structures near them is ultimately an absurd thing to do. In answer to a shocked student in the back asking why it's so common, he just shook his head, pulled out his wallet and flapped some bills.
Exactly. Developers will build a home ANYWHERE to make a dollar
"TOP of The CLASS"....That student is probably Very Wealthy himself right now, he understands Life.
@@jason-hy8ci Life has absolutely nothing to do with money.
@@soulfoodforthought9225 And stupid people will buy them despite a home inspector like me telling them otherwise
@@petebusch9069 You sooo missed the point......
whaaat?...the places built on a cliff are falling?.. who could have foreseen that?
Twice in the last 40 years homes have been destroyed in Bluebird Canyon, Laguna Beach. This is up the road from San Clemente. These home look like they were built in the last 40 years. People never learn.
They will all slide at some point but someone told these people what they wanted to hear, not what they needed to hear, that or they just didn't listen. Very stupid people non the less.
This has been happening for years....Don't build your house on a Cliff, on unstable ground, on the Coast, In California....Common sense! 🙄
The entire state in a state of emergency 😢
Where else lol
I wanna be that kind of rich when I can almost lose my life and be that calm
It does make for a really nice life. Put myself through college and graduate school for a secure, high-paying job with great benefits. Living the American dream. Your friends who naysayed school were sooo wrong. The lazy don't get rich.
@@orangemanfascist Actually 90% of the time people are born rich and dont work for it.
You are right in the minority of cases however, lol...
I moved to San Clemente from 🇬🇧 in 82. My first job was a dishwasher on Del Mar, that whole time I was living on the corner of W Canada and Buena Vista. I wasn’t rich!
Boy, me too🥳
@@kellyk5946 that's great, Kelly! Have you been happy in the states and in SoCal?
Stop building on these hills!!!
You can see from the soil that nothing is stabilizing this hill. Complete negligence indeed.
@@leathan7 It's like Miami, they continue to build there when it floods and building then collapse over time due to the soil becoming unstable. Then developers charge MILLIONS!!!
I've often thought of living in a million dollar house on an unstable cliff.
Hahahaha! Good one!
😂😂 yes, that's prime real estate 😅
They could at least plant special vegetation which has deep roots to add stability.
Try multi million
That would be a fixer-upper in that neighborhood. A million doesn't buy much anywhere in SC.
Haha! Too much overbuilding on our beautiful cali coast. Too bad.
Nature is just telling them it’s time to move, they were very blessed to live there for as long as they did…the earth moves in mysterious ways 🥰
I dont understand how the municipality would let folks build homes on this type of soil and topography?
Yes, and why do people take chances? People have been joking about California sliding into the sea for decades.
Contractors and city government shaking hands.
Awe this his so sad as it’s now months later.
Many memories in SC

Where I live you are not allowed to build on bluffs. It has been that way for decades. I was told in a college geology class to never buy these sorts of lots.
Beach front property coming soon to Arizona!!!
Didn't LRonHubbard have a yaught in az?
I think the weight of the pool full of water that close to the edge is what started the slide along with all the rain.
😂😂
The pool where I live holds 25,000 gallons of water. Water is 8.1 pounds per gallon=202,000 pounds of water.
@@Mark-qv4bn Like I said, the weight of the pool and the ground having liquification factors from rain. The pool probably shifted and created a nudge that sent the the landslide down.
@DrStrange225 OH yeah, I agree. I have maintained my work pool for over 14 years. An earthquake could of cracked the pool years ago, and it's been leaking ever since. A return line could of been leaking too.
I feel so sorry for these wealthy people to be losing their $6500 a month apartments. How dare this rain do this? 🤯
and they want handouts from the Federal govt. why not? Did these rich people pay any tax in their lifetime? We will never know.

i don't know how real estate in california can hold its value to be so expensive when they have so many things like this go wrong the forest fires the landslides
it is same thing in florida and i say you can have it i live in kansas i love it sure it gets cold but at least my house isn't falling a off a cliff you pay a heavy price
to get those beautiful views and the tropical climate then there is the fact to many other people are trying to do the same thing and it is so crowded

gives a new meaning to infinity pools.
If what is left of the hillside can be stabilized, the residents whose home are lost should be allowed to put manufactured homes or even RVs on what is left of their property. They still own it, and if it is stable, they should be allowed to enjoy it. This is no time to be concerned about the profits of the real estate industry.
For doing so they'll need to put up a enormous contention wall with super strong anchoring system inside some solid substrate somewhere downhill...
@@carlosmejia5728 It will be "contentious"...partly because it's a retention wall. But you are correct, either some safety changes need to be added for stabilization, or the authorities can't let someone live on the edge there any more than they can let people swim only in the "shallow end" of that pool.
makes sense. Else, the homeless and drug junkies will take over the space. any effort to throw them out after a month will result lawsuits by ACLU and other leftist nuts.
My Uncle's home was built on Bluffs/hillside kind of like this, maybe not as high, and on a big river, we built a Tiered type retention system using many Railroad Ties, and Re-bar, that was over 30 years ago, it's still holding out strong.
So sad your home owners insurance doesn't cover a penny of this damage
Why not?
I read about the insurance company not covering the land slide homes. Horrible situation
really, they do not cover landslides ?
Depends. Most rich people have insurance that does cover it.
Why should the rest of us modest insurance buyers living in low-risk neighborhoods have to pay for the hoity toity who choose to build on the edge of cliffs that have been _consistently_ sliding into the sea for decades now?
If California had had any foresight, they would have done what Oregon did and passed a bill to make the entire coastline publicly owned. No insurance issues, fewer mansions blocking the view and lots and lots of beach access.
You are a special sort of person. Not in a good way. Our Coastal commission would shut down the entire coast and put up fences to prevent access completely.
@@rosanneschiedel5559 Not sure that's a reflection of me...if very liberal Oregon came up with a practical solution, why should I expect California to be so much less adept?

Its interesting to watch what people take when told to evaluate.

Seriously, why do you care? They were warned not to buy on a cliff yet they did despite all the warnings. Right now as we speak someone is buying a house on an unstable cliff despite what was just witnessed. FFS stop feeling bad for idiots who refuse to listen. This will end up costing all of us money, ALL OF US.
Everyone knew the risk when they purchased a house near the coast.
Can’t beat the Mother Nature son don’t build the houses everywhere.
Haha! Bye, pool.
Well done! Best regards from Donbass.
These people's insurance policies should be made to pay for this, NOT the American or other Californian taxpayers.
Probably a leak in that pool. You can even see a severed water line and irrigation
Build directly on a cliff next to a geographic fault and with a great probability of fires and droughts and now flooding - perhaps not the greatest long term investment.
i would suspect the hole they dug for the swimming pool long ago had a little to do with the incremental damage done to the hillside that weakened it over time after multiple rains
Terrifying.
On the bright side, their property tax should drop.
My taxes going down as well ???

Let me tell you something. If construction companies that make cement werent so greedy and didn't need so much sand off the coast of the beaches to build new skyrise apartments since ocean sand and ocean water reinforce steel and concrete when placed over dens glass, I know because I worked in construction and my other uncle is an architect. That causes erosion of the sand outside of the water to fall into the ocean. Just so you know my uncle is an architect and my uncle was a world war 2 veteran who builds bridges and works on natural gasses. We all know California's costal erosion due to neglect and lack of coastal Sand is grounds for an impending calamity.
Your uncle does what for a living?
@@ammo_mammal my uncle Jairo is an architect and my uncle Jim is someone who achieved the top 5 percent of the asvab of scientists and contractors who build bridges and works on natural gasses. His son Jake also works on natural gasses but that's not relevant.

@Moral Hazard Correct. The flow of sand to the beaches was severely curtailed when the state began lining the rivers and some larger creeks with concrete.
Sorry Calvin, but I'm on the side of Moral Hazard here. While small parts of the coast may have been affected by what you stated, the corralling of rivers into concrete run-offs plus the lack of water means no sediment replenishment. Plus erosion is a natural occurrence that goes in cycles much like what we're seeing off the Carolinas.
I am constantly amazed how these naive californicaters will buy anything near a beach it's almost as if you could put up a cardboard house on the beach and people will flock to bid on it, well go ahead and live your dream or maybe get swallowed up in your dream.
Once again taxpayer’s on the hook for people living in place that they should not be !!! They should have the appropriate insurance and it’s not the taxpayers!
California appears to be falling apart both literally and figuratively.
Birth pains it’s all biblical
Exactly right. People need to read their Bible .

These people don’t read their Bible. It gives very specific instructions on where and how to build a solid home. This should be considered insurance fraud

A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion. 24 “‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25 Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27 for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28 And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you. 29 “‘Everyone who does any of these detestable things-such persons must be cut off from their people. 30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."

Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
1 Timothy 1:9 "We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me."
Jude 1:7 "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."
Revelation 21:8 "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
The Bible is a horrible, worthless moral guide.
