I lived in the San Fransico Bay Area, and years ago they had an apartment building slide off the cliff. They dug up a photo from the same building just after it was finished, there were at least two hundred feet of grass behind the building. The Pacific Ocean is a powerful source of destructive power. It took years but washed away the cliff and eventually everything above it. People screaming about wanting the city or the state to fix the problem, the problem was building there in the first place. In time, the street, and the houses across the street will be in danger, might take time, but with the soft sandy soil, the ocean will reclaim what it wants.`
1:40 - 1:48 "It's possible we've lost everything. We called our insurance and they said, 'well, they don't cover 'hills going down'.'" Can you imagine an insurance company telling Union Pacific about the blocked railroad tracks that same thing and 'getting away with it'? Let's hope a crack attorney, on this property owner's behalf, can get around the insurance company's loophole. It goes without saying, but I'll offer it anyway, "Good Luck to all the affected." And may the government resources that seem to always be there for everybody else come through for you in your critical moment of need(s).
I tried to obtain 'hills going down' insurance with my homeowners insurance but was told that it's not covered. My State Farm agent said that no-one covers it.
Union Pacific along with other class A railways are so large that they are self-insured meaning they cover themselves. Note: It's worth noting that that the gentleman finishes with: "all we have left is our faith in God". Obviously his "faith" takes a backseat to his material possessions....spoken like a true christian.
Don't put heavy things on cliffs. Also, where does all the water go that is not absorbed by all the hard surfaces like roofs, cement, and asphalt? Storm drains are not built for worst-case scenarios with all the development.
1:25 - 1:28 " . . . the landslide made it all the way to the train tracks below." Is this the stretch of track that's been reported closed since last fall as Union Pacific and Metrolink, the Surfliner, San Diego transit, California Coastal Commission, etc. work out routing options like 1) reinforcing, 2) tunneling or 3) putting the line miles inland? Or, a separate area north or south of that affected place? Interesting to see railroad crossing guards / gates for blocking / alerting pedestrian traffic using the stairs to the beach and vice versa. "We're so sorry" and "Good Luck" to the affected residents here. I can't imagine being red-tagged -- at all or within a moment's notice. Surely there's some possessions, information, papers, keepsakes that they didn't get out initially and now they wanna come back "just for 5 minutes!", but are prevented by authorities from attempting it.
I love how at the start the reported says that the stairs leading down to the beach have been blocked off because they aren't safe but in the background, there are people on the stairs going down to the beach!! LOL....
Hello mr mark brown, can u please ask your boss to take another video of you saying something else meaning the same thing? U are on repeat for such a long time, i pay for youtube but u seem to become one of the most annoying situation. Do you know about the Chinese water drop punishment?
@@cm6995 Huh? Houses falling off cliffs is so exceptionally rare that it's national news when it happens. Yet, many thousands of homes burn down each year in the U.S. causing over 2,500 deaths yearly, and it's not newsworthy unless the homeowner is famous.
That was a John Cleese line in the Equalizer movie that featured the young women wearing their bras and panties running through a busy mall while tickling each other on the way to the food court.
What is needed is a Super Hero called Cement Man, who can shoot quick setting cement from his palms? He can fly and hover nearby and apply cement to the failing hillside. I'd do it for free with my super powers, but I can only groom animal pets claws with my powers. Not useful in this situation. Sorry... 😒

That hill is way above the ocean, far away from it. It was the rain…
This is just so sad. Hopefully humans will quit building in such areas.

Its called Force Majeure and is a standard part of any and all Insurance Contracts. Basically those home owners are on their own.

So you want a home with a view eh ?
Yep, that's the risk. Tropical islands sound nice too, until the Typhoon hits.
*So you want a home made of lumber eh?*
Many thousands of homes burn down each year in the U.S. causing over 2,500 deaths yearly. Just sayin'.
Let’s be honest that many houses built in this general area favored a view over future geological safety.
I wonder if their property tax will be pro rated. Mam half my land is in the ocean! Sir do you have a boat license? No mam. Thats one offense.
Homeowners insurance is a waste of money.
A bigger catastrophe than the landslides.

Different stretch of rail, but agree about getting red-tagged. Must feel very strange to be ordered out of your own home.

So why isn't the property developer held accountable for building unsafe residential structures on land I'm assuming they own.
It’s not just slopes. There are issues with sinkholes, etc far inland.
cant imagine people even building there to begin with, pure stupidity, let the realator
pay for everything, he built it
Why do people live in these places. 🤔
Dam hopefully they can get back to their homes or at least get some money
they got what they deserved. Hope they like sleeping on the streets!
Quit building on sandstone
OMG😕
"...on the other side of the, the, the cliff..."? Other side of the HOUSE!!
Hey at least they got to live in a nice place. Check your Privilege.
""MY DAUGHTER **MOTHER NATURE** WILL ALWAYS WIN!!"" --- GOD
Sad
Nature plays GTA V too.
So when things get bad all of a sudden God comes popping up out of nowhere but when things are good God was not in their vocabulary
I dont know that god wasn’t in their vocabulary before neither do you…but a god has ZERO to do with it🤣🤣
God uses weather to punish people. It's kind of like when a kid sticks a lit firecracker into an ant hill.
Omg

Sir you should had faith in God before this happened!! not just now your in grief

When you pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud…
I think that God's got a sick sense of humour. And when I die, I expect to find him laughing.
