- Days after a major landslide in a Rolling Hills Estates neighborhood that destroyed 10 homes and forced evacuations, officials said the earth below continued to move, increasing concerns for other properties in the area.
On Monday, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said the ground was still producing significant movement which she described as "unbelievable."

It is called rolling hills.
ROLLING hills. The name speaks for itself.
Ever since the rains...the land has shown how fragile it is
This is just the beginning it's going to happen in more parts of the state
Nah, it's the building on the land. Same with climate change. Keep covering the earth with concrete and asphalt. Glass mirror windows highrise buildings. It will just keep getting warmer. Not just cars
No way a water pipe caused this. On the bright side, those across the street now have the million dollar view from their front yards.
Yes the main broke.
hahahaha I bet they don't want to live there anymore, and are frantically reading their insurance kit.
@@mikeprice4103
I think your right, a water main break
They are never going to tell us the truth of it because the cause of it is so devastating that they won’t ever say. Never trust scientists or the beast system government
they could sink too..
The area I grew up in had a lot of questionable property the houses built on stilt for the last Lots in the entire neighborhood to get sold in 60 years. The greed was so bad they finally built houses on stilts to use up those last Lots.
Ground movements first that caused the water pipe burst.
homes on hills or mountains never intrigue me. never have been a big fan to live on top of a small hill or right next to the beach. largely due to convenience.
I used own land in the mountains
They look beautiful on the side of a mountain, but I would never feel safe living in one. There are so many things that can go wrong, especially with rolling rocks, earthquakes, & floods.
@@timelessmusicfamilymusic9175 Its actually more safe then living in the city
@ezequielpedroza3865 depends on what city you live in. Crime is everywhere, including small towns.
"Rolling" Hills was a dead giveaway for me to avoid when I was looking/
😂
Rich people can't afford a geologist to inspect before they buy? Hmmm
These landslides rarely ever give notice, they just happen very suddenly. I'm not saying you're wrong, but unless someone noticed something sooner...what can you do? I was there off BlueBird Canyon in Laguna Beach on July 11, 2005 when there was a sudden landslide and many homes were lost, entire streets fell 100ft down below. These were all million dollar homes and one was brand new, and it did have a geologists report and was given special permits from the city, not long before the landslide happened. In fact I remember talk in the neighborhood that some believed the construction of large new home may have led to the landslide, they reported the ground shaking and or moving and that the homeowner had possibly weakened the surrounding area by building such a large home into the hillside. Like they literally just forced this huge new house into the hillside and cut away, brought huge heavy equipment in and all of that. Anyways unless you have a crystal ball it's hard to predict this, it just happens out of nowhere, usually.
Its just wild to me what resources money can buy. The news is ALL over this story about rich people losing a house....
Back then ,you couldnt built in beverly hills, so they began digging deep to create a foundation penetrating deep into the ground , of course that work alone takes serious money and these house dont look like they have that going on
@@patricksmith2553You're gonna build a house on the side of a Hill. It better be on solid rock.
I'm only 11 seconds in and I can already hear "Hello, I'm Marc Brown" in my head. You know it's coming...
Why build a home near a cliff? LA gets a lot of rain and wild fires. Now what? They lose everything??
Because land developers and realtors (mainly yuppie Jews) have their way in California and there`s a lot of stupid yuppie morons that get suckered in2 anything.
There are houses over in Hollywood hills near cliffs that could break away at any moment. So your comment really holds without merit.
Well the fact that insurance companies are moving out of the state and no longer wanting to subsidize any insurance to home owners, There will be no point to rebuild.
Yup
I think all the rain we had softened the ground 😢
Rolling Hills stands up to the name. Sorry for the families hope treats them better in the future
It is sure weird that some insurance companies have left CA, think they know something? You will have a difficult time obtaining mortgage ins. in some instances. All of this is so bizarre at the same time. The pipe broke because the earth shifted, this has been going on for awhile. Now the crustal displacement of this region sounds like it may get larger with time, I'd be bailing out of this place while I could grab my possessions. I hope and pray for these folks!
California is about to slide into the Pacific, that's what's happening. The big companies all know it too and they are scampering away before it's too late.
The name says it all !!! "" Rolling Hills" You didn't give any attention to it!!!!
Well... "rolling hills." 🤷♀
This was an issue in beverly hills back in the 40s through 60s i believe, they still built houses in those hills
My dad checked with the newspapers and police about the area our home was built in California. He confirmed that there was no flooding or other problems. 70 years later, it's still standing.
No one cares.
Smart Dad,
california realtor's will try to sell you anything pretty in the hills even if it unsafe
Don`t move to Clifty Falls Rolling Hills people.
Clifty Falls is in Indiana close to Madison. Its a very pretty place.
OMG 💔
THIS IS SO SCARY 😨
These homes are in Rolling Hills Park Villas, a gated community. They range in square footage from around 1,700 square feet to over 2,800 square feet and in price from approximately $635,000 to $1,540,000. The least expensive home in Rolling Hills Park Villas is 2,148 sq. ft. with 3BR and 2/half BA at $635K. The most expensive home is 2,338 sq. ft. with 3BR, 2/half BA, and 2-car garage at $1.54 million. The monthly homeowners association fees are about $557/month.
So what’s your point?
@@kellyjames6402 It is more information on these homes.
So what *IS* you trying to convey?
@@e.fooyoung7451 It is simply more information on these homes.
Imagine if they skipped the useless hoa and used the money for water mitgation technologies. Amazing it happened so long after those heavy rains though. The peninsula has had landslides for decades and will continue to do so.
live at the bottom
The sad thing that their home insurance would not cover for this type of damage rather than burned by fire.
insurance is a Joke
Set it all on fire NOW. No time to waste, cause the house still exists.
@@joeldementinsurance is a joke to those who don’t understand it 🙃
@@christiang4316 explain it 2 me
@@joeldement really? lol. Well I guess if you do not have any major assets there really isn’t a need to understand insurance. But if one day you do happen to put a house under your name I encourage you to dedicate time and effort to learning more about this topic. And not by asking randoms on the comments section in RUclips.
To get started know that insurance is a risk management method to transfer SOME risk, not all risk, to protect from a loss to an underlying asset. Good idea to read through your insurance policy, or at least have a conversation with your insurance agent to find out what exclusions are listed in your policy.
Good luck in your insurance learning journey.
🙏 prayers for all those affected
What Hills? Oh, Rolling Hills!
They bought the home 2 months ago?? What home inspection company passed that property as it was sliding down the canyon??
What a beautiful sight to BEHOLD!!!
Rolling hills true to its name..
California is going to end up like Florida, Texas, and Louisiana in certain parts when it comes to insurance. All of those homes near this will more than likely not be renewed. California will have to do like Florida whose last resort for insurance is Citizens. Folks really need to purchase homes and consider what insurance cost for that area before purchasing a home ao they'll know what their true mortgage would be. I have to explain escrow everyday to folks who simply do not, or pretend to not understand that if taxes and insurance increase, so will your payment. More have to be collected to pay. First time home buyers, I understand.
Be careful where ypu purchase.
Same thing with Flood insurance, when the maps were redrawn and ur home was suddenly now in a ‘flood zone’, extra $3k bill
Shocking. Looks like they are built on sand.
Wow, that's massive. The rains?? The water leak? These homes are not new, been there at least 25 years.
They don't call it Rolling Hills for nothing.🤔
I hope they have mudslide insurance. The ocean is carving underneath California on a daily basis.
Mudslide? Never heard of such an insurance . . .

Correct, most homeowners insurance policies do not cover earth movement.
@@mikeprice4103 That is the work of God. He made everything, Cause and effect is on his shoulders too.
If you pay extra for a specific rider for landslides it would. I would imagine a few of them might have had that.
This is going to start happening all over the country, not just in California. The New Madrid fault line is literally starting to rupture. The entire country will be impacted especially the East Coast!
Are you saying it's the end of the world ?
Debbie Downer chimes in.
The US Military has recently been deployed in key locations throughout the country in anticipation for what is coming. The US Government knows the severity of the situation but they refuse to warn their citizens.
@@meowchat6175Get help. Mental help.
The new Madrid fault will never become active in our lifetime.
Theses people needed insurance coverage called "Difference in Conditions" which would cover landslide. A standard homeowner policy does not cover landslide. Knowing the history of the area with earth movement I'm not sure they could buy coverage, or it would be very expensive.
higher home insurance premium is coming to this area.
Poor rich people and their fancy homes with beautiful views. How beautiful are the views now ?!
The Hills really rolling….
I guess Sunken City is getting an addition?
Rolling off the Hills Estates?🤔
Did the soil engineers see the sandy clay? It's easy to see now.

Insurance should be priced before buying & timed to begin before the ink dries on the new home's title.
The earth is moving to 😢
The homeowners should not worry about homes their insurance Co. will pay off their losses. They should start hunting new homes.
If you really think this is true, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you.
How do you move into a multi-million dollar home and not know if you have insurance?... how arrogant... normal people have insurance upon signing...
When you build your house on a cliff in California, you have to know that at some time, the ground is going to shift. Solution? Don't build your house on a cliff.....duhhhhh.
The insurance company will cheat the homeowners. Insurance sounds like your friendly uncle until you rtry to collect. Most homeowner’s policies contain an exclusion for “earth movement”, a common example of which will specifically exclude losses for things like “landslide; mudflow; earth sinking, rising or shifting
This is why California isn’t a heavy rain state & why this year was so crazy to experience. All that water had to affect the land some how
Just when you think you've seen it all........ this. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
ROLLING HILLS? Really? You can't make this stuff up...
Those houses are collapsing as fast as the dollar.
That's what happens to people who insist on living on the edge without doing their due diligence & not using a reputable geologist firm to do a thorough land research on the property and its surrounding area before closing the deal.
Will they get enough insurance money to start over?
Insurance will probably not cover this type of loss, unless the HOA purchased additional earth movement insurance (not likely since it’s really expensive).
Hi Janice, how are all your cats doing?
Build on shifting ground and get a shifty house. You’ll learn one day and today is your day
Yea people got to move out it’s not safe. Can’t sleep at night thinking my house is next.
Its in the name....yeah?
Will insurance cover this?
So sad. 😢
When you live on a Rolling Hill....
What does that showoff supervisor have anything to do with this news?
I'm feeling the pain , of the uber rich!😮
Flimsy construction! greed, AND HOA fee's,,,,, better to live in a small solid house. I think people there should go out and buy any kind of RV they can afford. And STUDY the construction of the RV!!,,, People will need an escape route, imo. I'd rather drive away in something you can sleep in, a solid roof, water hook ups. That whole place could go,, The roads in and out could crumble, (if you can park your RV NOT on that land even better),,,, This don't look good.
That’s horrible sorry to the homeowners
"Collapsing hills" name would alert the home byers. Name "rolling hills" wasn't enough...😢
Amazing how fast the city county and got involved with this fiasco.. I wish they would show the same urgency in dealing with the homeless crisis.. oh wait.. they are these home owners will be homeless soon enuff!

That ain't that bad 1903 San Francisco earthquake wiped out the whole city
those homeowners might have a couple of few other homes. they're wealthy $$
Petition to rebrand the neighborhood, "Solid Oak Estates."
WoW, can u imagine losing your home because a neighbor ignored a water pipe leaking, causing this damage???
This clearly isn't the issue. I suspect the earth was moving before then. They reportedly had heavy rain in the area. I don't think the neighbor is responsible. I think the moving earth broke the pipe.
The water pipe burst because the land was already moving. Compared to billions or trillions of gallons of rain, that burst pipe is probably less than 1% of the problem.
