    Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes emerges as a commendable homage to the beloved Suikoden series. It excels with a rich narrative full of intricate character dynamics and an engaging war story, supported by a vast character roster and beautiful, modern-traditional art design. Strategic gameplay elements add depth, though the game’s tendency to autopilot and underutilized open world might not satisfy players seeking a more interactive RPG experience.

      @irvingkirvan5284 4 месяца назад +13

      Yeah, I didn't understand this critique whatsoever... Not every game needs to be a open world, player driven story with multiple endings. I actually prefer this approach of storytelling personally. I think it's more of a pacing and depth issue, but the author should probably try to clarify his own opinion before publishing it perhaps? I'm about two thirds of the way done with this game and I do think the writing isn't as good as the high points of the Suikoden series, maybe feeling a little more generic fantasy and less political but I'm still finding it engaging.

    • @NoisyPixelNews
      @NoisyPixelNews  4 месяца назад +5

      Dragon Quest 11 - has voiceless protagonist. You begin the game by taking on a trial that sets you on an adventure that you and the protagonist are experiencing for the first time together.
      Final Fantasy - Which one? I’ll assume 16. it’s not designed around an auto battle options so you are in direct control of the action and movement. There also aren’t moments of “down time” as you’ll always be allowed to progress the narrative. Whereas in Hundred Heroes, there are times where you’re told go find some new allies, but it’s tough to care about the cause when the plot is flimsy and you’re in a situation where you feel like you’re watching a 3 hour movie, oh now I have to participate in this boss, then back to a 3 hour movie.
      I do encourage you to play and understand for yourself. I’m only speaking on my experience and I still had a great time with the game. - Azario

    • @sidneyemunoz
      @sidneyemunoz 4 месяца назад +5

      Yeah, but this game takes it to the next level. No strategy in mob fights means just leave autobattle on, at that point you are just watching a lets play instead pf playing yourself. This is not a game, it is just an interactive movie.

      @@NoisyPixelNews Ultimately I just think this is an unapologetically retro game that isn't trying to redefine the franchise it is inspired by. Suikoden has always been a game that is greater than the sum of its parts, a game that takes a different approach to most JRPGs and I'd rather this game try to stay true to its roots in what made it unique. I definitely wouldn't recommend Eiyuden Chronicles to the average gamer in general, and I wish this review took that into account a bit more. It's not just about our preferences when we review something, you should be considering the context and intent behind the design choices just as much as how much you personally jive with the experience. I don't think this game is a flawless execution by any means and I definitely have a number of critiques however the actual format of the game is exactly like Suikoden games and I mostly love that as a hardcore fan of the series.

    • @NoisyPixelNews
      @NoisyPixelNews  4 месяца назад +4

      I would actually recommend it to younger fans of JRPGs. It's a great intro to the genre with absolutely no barrier of entry. It remains surface level in terms of systems, but I think it's a brilliant display of what a retro JRPG experience can be. Following the feedback from players, I think the sequel will be more focused and just as brilliant.

    2-4 encounters in dungeons? We must be playing a different game or you just ran straight past ever chest or hidden area. Also love the voice acting and the fact that there is so much and it so well done shows how far these types of games have come since the 90's.
    Honestly it feels like the reviewer has no appreciation for the history of the genre and could care less what they are even reviewing here. Been playing it the past two days and grew up playing games like this and it brings me back to those days with adding a ton of quality features. For me it's a 9/10. Would be a 10/10 but there are some graphical problems like bad shadowing on the surroundings also there are a lot of load times.

      @@justinc882 Yeah if anyone is underleveled they can get 2-3 levels per encounter it's bananas. You get everyone at the same level in 10 minutes max it's really neat. I love the way the game is balanced so far.
      Just MP as a whole is super weird in the early hours I hope it gets better because spells are insanely overpriced and "good" but not justified for the price. They almost feel like ultimate moves you use once or twice per dungeon, and dungeons are crazy big in this game so it's even weirder. If savepoints gave MP back I'd be fine with that. But they don't. Very odd.

    • @justinc882

      @@sombrego2260 MP restoring items become easier to get later in the game and money isn't as big of a deal. I think the idea is are supposed to treat magic as special. In the old Suikoden games you had limited number of uses of spell slots so you really had to be choosey for when you use them. I haven't personally run into an issue with MP running out but I always make sure I'm stocked on items properly before I leave town.
      And yes, the leveling is great. I picked up Iugo last night and he's level 6 (clearly I missed him) while I was level 43. Took 5-10 minutes and hes level 38 right there with everyone else.

      @@nworder4life I could not disagree more: for me, voiceless protagonists can be so much more effective than a voiced one that isn't written and acted *perfectly* (i.e. just about never). When my protagonist says something cringe in a voiced game, it really throws immersion of the game off ... but when it's voiceless text, cringe writing doesn't have nearly as strong a negative effect, and of course sub-par acting is a non-issue. With English voices, if it's not acted really well, I have to just turn voices to mute to enjoy the game.
      However, this may be a generational thing. As a teenager in the 80s and young adult in the 90s, virtually all RPG protags were voiceless. People my age are used to it. But I can see how younger generations might want voiced, like shows we watch etc.
      btw ... I could not possibly care more about Link! His voiceless persona is imprinted on my brain as a dominant gaming archetype, so cool, so many possibilities to imagine with him. Voiced would ruin it for me, 100% for sure.

      Different strokes! I'll take one of the better Zelda games over God of War or The Last of Us any day. Voiceless games are more "game-y", more imagination-spurring, which is the kind of interaction I've always preferred in videogames. Fully-voiced games are more cinematic, a style which definitely satisfies a big audience.

    Noisy I gotta ask, with so many characters, does this game the problem of having too much and too little. As in, since there's so many characters, does it have the issue of not having the time to flesh them out, to make you care about them. Does it have little or no interaction between the characters ? Are most just one dimensional and only exist as a slot to fill in the battle system? I value story in my games heavily, and having characters that are both loveable and memorable is vital to me. Octopath kinda had this issue where having 8 characters made it difficult for me to be immersed in most of their stories, rather than focusing on lets say just 4, but those 4 are tightly written and are well thought out in both their goals, and their interactions with other characters, both serious and laidback.

      @King-2077 3 месяца назад

      Since there’s more than a hundred of characters, maybe about half of them will have a background story you can relate to, but each has their own personality but other than that, many characters you will only get to know a bit of them during their recruitment process. Other optional characters however, get a bit more story in them after their recruiment as some of them has a whole questline and sometimes connected to other optional recruitable character. The characters that are part of the main story, you dont have to worry about.
      Also in previous suikoden games, few characters return to sequel because the whole world of suikoden was connected. So depending on which time period the game was, you can see some characters who return younger or older version of them and some even became a major part of the story, which is realy cool about that franchise. Hopefully they do the same with eiyuden if it gets a sequel.

    This is a pretty terrible review.
    Dungeons aren't that long, encounter rate your mileage my vary but I find it just great.
    The complaint about autobattle is silly. The auto battle is just there to speed it up and existed in previous suikoden games under the "free will " option. You can fine tune it if you want. But I don't understand how having a QoL in a JRPG is a downside. As for "how can you let players rely on auto battle but then require them to understand strategy at boss fights?" maybe because the devs expect classic gamers, the people most likely interested in this, to have played a game before?
    I know you said you've played the older games but this review doesn't sound like you have. There's no difference in the feel here than there was in any suikoden game. Nowa runs around, collecting allies inbetween story beats.
    I understand everyone is going to have different opinions and different games are going to hit differently. But 7.5? Reviews are subjective and all but this is pretty bad imo.

      Would you really "kill" to get whoever still works on modern games at Konami to make a Suikoden game? This game is twice as good as that game would be. Konami can't even seem to finish/release their Suikoden 1|2 remasters, which were announced a super-long time ago. Much less make a brand-new, classic-level JRPG. I also haven't seen anything suggesting the game would blow me away with its story either.

When you are in the story segments it's fantastic. There's a few times where someone would say something and I'd roll my eyes like "ok this stupid stuff" only to have the next character completely call them out (in a good way).

    Silent protagonists are an antiquated holdover from a bygone era that needs to go away for RPGs to evolve. While it’s nostalgic and can sometimes be nice, it’s time to move on. If anything, have a setting/toggle to turn off voice for the protagonist so nostalgia babies can have their “… … …” “… … …” “… … …”. Dragon Age 2 did away with silent protagonists, Soul Hackers 2 had a well developed non-silent protagonist and Fire Emblem Three Hopes and Engage had decently developed protagonists with personality.

      Suikoden has silent protagonists which is why it’s a point of my review. I’ve played (and physically own) every entry of the series that has released in the west.

      @@NoisyPixelNews oh I’m not knocking your review just to be clear. I’ve played most of the classic RPGs from the 90’s and love them for what they accomplished in their time. I’m really glad that games like this and OCTOPATH echo the art styles of old because the art style is still an evolved 2.5D / HD2D. But silent protagonists in modern RPGs are just lazy to me and not very creative. Just my opinion though.

    I've anticipated this game for so long but waited for reviews before pre-ordering. Now, I think I'll pass.
    For me, the worst feeling is when a game feels like it's on auto-pilot, diminishing player involvement, decisions, and control. I'm the type that doesn't like games that are too easy, too straightforward. This looks like it's going to be more of an interactive book than a fun and challenging RPG.
