@@ChristianEzequiel-v6r I don't remember if it's for PC or not because I was interested in the Switch version, but if it is then that's an inevitability via mods (although the usual hosts won't allow such mods, so there will be a bit of searching involved).
I just realized after beating the game, during all the war battles the soldiers that fall are all named after people that donated off kickstarter. I noticed some of the names from watching the ending. They truly went all in on this wonderful game.

Sorry but your taste isn't "better" than anyone else's, no one is the supreme judge on what is "good" and what isn't, but fact is Suikoden II is widely considered to be one of the best RPG's ever made. If you didn't like it, fine, but to suggest anyone who likes it are blind to nostalgia is laughable. There are some old games that I don't like that others do but I don't just say they must just like them for nostalgic reasons, they have their own reasons for enjoying what they enjoy, I'm not narcissistic enough to think I know exactly how their mind works and the reasons they enjoy it. Get over yourself.
Dude, back in the day, we didn't have this "devs should fix it." There were glitches but we did not complain about it. For example, Suikoden II. It's not all sunshine there. There were glitches too.
Suikoden II is one of the greatest JRPGs of all time, in my opinion, and you couldn't keep me away from this game by saying "it's so old school it doesn't have modern quality of life improvements" because neither does Suikoden II and I've found it kinda silly seeing some reviews where people complain about that. That's not a bug, to me, that's a feature.
Honestly, I would gladly take the old school feel wothout the "modern QoL improvements" if it meant seeing an actually diverse and likable roster of characters. I feel like that is a dead art form these days.
This is so well said, exactly how I feel! Some modern gamers don't have the experience of truly old school RPGs while living in real time in the era of old school RPGs, and I accept that it changes their perception. But dayam, it sucks to be them!! Well, except for those more vigorous younger folks who immediately feel at home getting their arse whooped. ❤
I'm 6hrs into it and what a game so far it's so beautiful and well done it's definitely just like playing a Suikoden game straight up. Im so proud and happy how well this game has turned out and can't wait to spend over 100+ hrs on it 😁.
Over 100 hours... it's not that long is it? That's concerning because games that are that long always suck because they're quantity over quality. Suikoden II is 33 and a half hours for just the main story, 52 hours for 100% completion and that game had A LOT to do and a perfectly good length for a story which doesn't drag. 100 hours would either mean the story drags on with poor pacing or there's a bunch of tedious copy paste quests to fill up time... NO THANKS. There's no reason for this game to be twice the length of suikoden II. Edit: Thank goodness, I found it is 40/45 hours story length and 55 to 60 hours for 100%. That's MUCH better than another one of those 100 hour chores (like Persona 5)
The game look good. And I enjoyed the old school games. I see alot of people here talking about the localization and how bad it is. I've seen some of the comparisons from the true translation to the localized version and it honestly doesn't seem that bad. However I would push back on a couple of things. The guy that worked on this game's localization said something to the effect of they need to change certain things specifically because certain Japanese sensibilities would be considered offensive in the West. First, I'm in the West and have been playing Japanese games pretty much my entire life and would prefer that if they have something offensive to say, that I get to know what it is for myself. Second these people do not actually care at all about being offensive, they do it all the time. Many of them actually seem to revel in the idea of making people feel as offended as possible. They just like being able to decide who it is ok to offend and who it is not ok to offend. They smear people and call them names all the time. They are very selective see. But for them to say that they want to shield people from offensive content is a bad joke. They don't care about that at all. If they meant what they say, then it would be universally applied. And that is definitely not what is happening. Sometimes though, these things do get a little blown out of proportion. And I still want to pick this game up. I am a sucker for old school Japanese style games.
@@micshazam842 Totally different cases. The localization is using modern western left political insults like chud, that's an objective issue. Stellar Blade is just DEI advocates melting down.
It's a fantastic game. I will say that the two weakest aspects of it are war scenarios and localization. War combat is very bare bones. They could have taken inspiration from existing tactical RPGs. Maybe that's just me? And the localization is causing controversy because of recent issues with translators (inserting their own views rather than attempt to translate it faithfully) and companies like "Sweet Baby, Inc." Those who can read and speak Japanese will have no issues. RIP, Murayama-san.
@@zaciroth There are lines where it's pretty obvious the localizers did what they wanted. For example, there is one line where a character just says "Heeh..." but the localizers inputted dialogue. Mind you, that is one of several examples I found, and I'm 5 hours into the game. I'm the type of gamer who is okay with translations IF they stay true to the original's vision, by the way. If they take too many liberties, that's where it becomes a problem. Lian, in Japanese, is your typical upbeat female character. She's very similar to Nanami from Suikoden II. However, the localizers cranked her annoyance up to 20/10. I recommend keeping it on Japanese dub. If you can read Japanese, I recommend keeping it on both. That way, it's as true to Murayama's vision as it gets. Perhaps that's just me, though.
thats a good comment unlike the paladins saying the game localization dont matter and anyone complaining about it is not a suikoden fan , people are so adamant on defending clearly bad localization on some aspects of the game just because they dont care about the real vision of the author as long as they can play the game in english, and those are the ones that call themselves "true fans" lmao.

I backed this thing up, real early on, $100 in. The most I've ever spent on a video game. I'm so glad I did. I didn't know it was going to be Yoshitaka Murayama's last (though he did leave a story outline for a sequel to this, apparently). It makes me happy to see this game is doing so well and getting so much attention. That bug is a HUGE letdown. Though, I will play it before they patch it simply because I know I won't get everyone on my first playthrough. I always played suikoden games blind, and didn't do character recruitment guides until a second playthrough. But if they still haven't fixed that bug by then, that would truly sour the experience.

1:33 : Some people have posted side by side videos and PS5 and Steam both look roughly the same, amazing, PS4 looks like a step down from PS5/Steam but still good, Switch looks like a big step down. No major surprises with any of that, but its worth noting that if your looking for the optimal visual experience, PS5 and Steam are a noticeable step ahead of the other choices.

People are even compiling the bad localization like with Mio gendering a Golem. internet slang like "Chud" and the lines of Francesca is way over the top compare to the JP version.
Francesca's lines make me laugh 🤷♀Most people don't know Japanese and won't realize that there are differences so who cares really... This "issue" is completely overblown and doesn't impact your enjoyment.

Only the official Chinese translation is faithful to the Japanese dialogue, every other language uses the English mangling. We'll have to wait for a fan patch kind of like how the PS1 Suikodens had fan patches for the localisation many years later.
@@armorvil depends on how adamant you are personally to what does and does not make a localization good/bad. Some take it VERY seriously (obviously). Some will likely play this and not even notice the difference or care that there is a difference. And that is totally fine. Most people are saying it is pretty shit though, not just bad.

Saw the localization quality and the person responsible for it... cancelled. Sorry, not giving these nutjobs my money, sorry to the Devs, as im sure it's 505's fault and not yours.
Im 10 hours in and i love the game, except Lian. That character is single handedly ruining this games story for me. Im tired of stupid, annoying characters in these types of games and Lian is by far the worse. I'm praying i can take her out of my party soon. I have a better grapple damager already who does more damage. If Lian stays a big part of the games story i will quite playing. Or just skip the story altogether. She single handedly deflates all the drama and escalation of every scene in the game.
Ok a couple more hours into the game and the war has officially kicked off and I got control of my first unit. Lian has become much more serious as well once it becomes apperant how bad things are. This is much better. I thought she was gonna act like an idiot airhead throughout the entire game but it looks like these events have knocked some sense into her. I kinda like that for her character so...well played Eiyudan Chronicles.
Localization always hate "grunts". Or a lot of "non worded" voice lines. At least if they are gonna put dialogue over these grunts, they should make appear as "inner monologues" if they insist of localizing a grunt into sentences if they think the english speaking people won't understand the nuance of a "grunt" or a Hrmmm...
tbh if only grunts that show disappointment they just can write, "ah cmon" or "Really", or "Oh" "ahh" an empty reaction that didnt have any meaning what so ever. why game this day always like this. did i need push my self to get N3 exam just for reading JP text.
I refused to watch any other reviews of this game until you did yours. I knew your love for the suikoden series would give credibility to your opinion. Great video, worth the wait.
Me in here hoping these guys revisit the Vandal Hearts concept again too, the unique structure of that TRPG always has me coming back and I want more, though its sequels never captured my heart like the first one did.

About recruiting the girl at 12:30 named Lam, just as a heads up this *"If you have talked to her ONCE and did not talk to Riufan at your HQ, it MIGHT be possible..."* ---> This is WRONG, I only talked to her once, didn't talk to Riufan in the bar, brought him to her and NOTHING happens. So you should never talk to her.
Hate it when people who've never played the original suikoden, make these dumbass reviews man. watched a reviewer (not you) complain that u can only change runes at the rune shop. duh! Ofc u can only change runes on the rune shop because that's how it is in suikoden 1 and 2. grew up playing the series during the 90's
Load times before and after battles, bad translations, and the auto scroll skips dialogue which also makes that damn chirp noise after every press of the confirm button. A bunch of awkward small issues that can be patched for sure. Other than that this game is pure suikoden goodness, 9/10 baby
I've unfortunately seen some pretty bad translation examples for this game...even if you have the japanese dub selected, you're still going to see that badly translated text.
That's a pretty harsh statement @12:59. This is clearly a QA issue that was missed, which is bound to happen with a kind of project like this. It can even happen with AAA titles as well; it's just a shame it had to be related to character recruitment, which is super important in these games to achieve the best ending. What compounds this even more is by having over 100 characters, so... Yeah, I can see how problems can happen. But to suggest people not buy the game because of it or until it's actually patched I think is a little harsh to say the least. It will be fixed.
I forgot to ask: I saw in your video battle footage several kind of silly enemies. Are there a lot of teddy bears and silly looking enemies in this game? That's one thing that could be a negative imo...
Turning on or off random encounters should be an option in any modern jrpg. As you said it annoys you during puzzles and also you can do challenge runs without leveling up...
It's sad that this game seems to suffer from what many other JRPGs suffer from: poor English translations. These companies need to hire better translators. Unicorn Overlord did a bad job with the English localization. There were times a character would only say a few words in Japanese, but the English subtitle shows like 3 sentences. There were also times when a character clearly just said another character's name, but the English subtitle says something else. My friend, who speaks Japanese, got a few good laughs when she saw the English translations.

Once there is a mod to fix the translation I will buy it. I don't want to read stuff like "Rub-adub-dub, don't be a flub" or use Urban dictionary to understand Zoomer jokes.
@@sharebear421 As far as I know, the original Japanese text is very different from the English text. Just compare the English subtitles with the translation from the Japanese.
Having been playing the crap out of Star Ocean: First Departer R and Star Ocean: Second Story R. and playing the OG Suikoden 1 and 2 games through emulation along with FF1-6, the random encounter aspect doesn't bother me at all.
There is game breaking bug that wont let me continue the story. Late in game after i talk to seign on top of the castle . Then u have to talk to euma. It says on current goal you cant get to sleep. Try taking a walk. But in game its day light and nothing progresses the story. At all. I have no backup saves.
I have some doubts! Could you talk a little about the mini card game in this game? I'm super curious and I haven't seen anyone talk about it! When can I play the mini card game? Last question, this is the first turn-based game I've played that doesn't show the enemies' life bar at the time of the fight, I'm completely lost without knowing if that enemy is dying or not! How do you plan your fight without knowing the enemy's life?
For all those that worry about spoilers so kind of skip around in reviews he actually recommends NOT BUYING THIS GAME UNTIL IT GETS PATCHED. Right now there are bugs that prevent you from being able to recruit all characters, which can have adverse effects on other characters and the endings.
what I love is there isn't any bloat, pacing issues or "devs not respecting the player's time" feeling that you find a lot in JRPGs nowadays : FF7R games, Octopath, the Trails, etc etc. Eiyuden grabs you and doesn't let go, like good JRPGs of old!
about to beat this game, it was great, except a few characters were really hard to get(Hogan and the Beyblade characters)over all GREAT GAME, really brought the nostalgia of Suikoden 2 back. the music isn't as timeless as Suikoden 1,2, and 3.
Suikoden 1 is relatively short, I'd start there just to see if you like the style of the franchise, it's a lower time investment and still worth playing even if later entries may be better.

Actually do recruit that one character you need the old spirit guy character in your party and if you talk to him at the end at the castle, he would tell you about her if she actually very old

@WarrenRhodes-ug3kq meh, right wing males are just like left wing males, just another form of crybaby. Im saying that if it is only that one line that blew up, then it isnt a big deal, but if they woke it through the game and make all men seem stupid and weak because they are men, I'll pass.
This game gets a lot better mid-late game, but I really wish the re-balanced magic & hero combos to be more useful. Only a hamdful of hero combos are more useful than just having the 2+ characters separately basic attack, and most magic spells are powerful than basic attacking too. Magic finally started getting a bit stronger when I was about 30 hours in, and even then it was limited to a small number of spells on an even smaller number of heroes.
I heard that the English translator put their IRL political view in the game. Like what happened to some manga/anime. Is it true? Or is it just a hoax?
So I've encountered a couple of problems on Switch (I don't know if they're exclusive) that are annoying enough for me to not play it. 1. You cannot use Auto-Advance, it works in voiced cutscenes but if you try to talk to NPC's with it, then it closes the dialogue box before it's typed out, meaning you constantly have to toggle it between cutscenes and exploration making you have to try and guess where cutscenes are triggered. 2. It takes a good 10 seconds to load random battles which REALLY breaks the flow of the game. I know it's an indie title but they've had some good funding and it's 2024. These are minor grievances for most, I know. But they personally annoyed me enough within the first half an hour that I had to put it down. I hope they patch it up because I've been excited for this for years.
Good to know the loading isn't just on xbox which I'm currently playing on but will replay on ps5 down the line. I'll continue to play this on gamepass until the little issues are fixed. But having a lot of fun so far!
I'm 9 hours into the PC version, and what I would say about the save system is that the autosaves are too far apart. The save points don't seem too bad, but there are times when you look at the time of the autosave and it was 30 minutes or more ago. In the event of a crash (or power failure) this would prove annoying. No stability issues on the PC version for me so far, but I hear the Switch version definitely suffers from crashes.
Love the game absolutely a masterpiece when it comes to jrpgs. But man do i hate the inventory limit. That would be my biggest grip with the gm so far.
...I just saw this post after writing my own comment lol. Guess I'll need to look into what the translators did once some people compile stuff (which given how people have been compiling stuff lately due to Sweet Baby's BS may not be hard to find out nowadays). Granted some people also embellish how much the translators screw things over (Unicorn Overlord for instance hasn't really had anything in it that pushes woke BS and at worst expands on the Japanese lines for the sake of sounding more old Medieval English speech patterns you'd see in the Noble's court which is livable given the rest of the game is great...if it's like that I can give Eiyden a pass...if it's Dragonmaid anime levels of bad though ya I'd be out). As long as it's no worse than the localizations done from the PS2 era to around just before when woke shit was being hamfisted into our faces (last 5 years or so) it'll be tolerable at the very least if it's to play and at least understand the story of the game (basically as long as it's no worse than Pokemon's donuts translation of rice balls...ya wrong word but both are food and barely have relevance on the main plot...was it stupid though ya won't deny that but not gonna say no to a game I'm excited for (granted Eiyden would be more of a random pickup for me than full on excitement...a must have pickup would be Trails/Ys/Tales) just for some minor translation issues).

The Suikoden series is my favorite video game series ever, period. I owned and beat I-V numerous times, going back and recruiting all 108 stars of Destiny, and even tried my best to get through the DS game 😂 I downloaded this last night but I’m so excited to play a game like Suikoden again!

i feel bad to set my expectation to has same as Suikoden 2, its not that high bar, BUT, its something like Suikoden 1 but better. maybe as same as Suikoden 5 too. the inventory system should be bigger too, but im glad they didnt share slot with accessory. also maybe some in deepth for the Rune lore? i mean what hook me with Suikoden is How powerfull true rune is. and MC usually held that 1 true rune from 27 True rune. and if you play Suikoden IV or V you know how scary True rune power is. tho, i still waiting for the clue to recruit people, i hope they made secret / true ending if we get all the recruitable character like how Suikoden game always
I'm actually sort of glad runes were more of a McGuffin in this game than in Suikoden. The 27 true runes created a sort of narrative limitation because they were just sort of there, in a way. Rune Barrows and the primal lenses seem to have an entire ancient civilization tied to them, which might be put to use in a story further down the line (even if Murayama won't be the one to write it; I think Eiyuden as a franchise will live or die by how the sequel does). They already have in-world limits on who can use rune lenses and how well they can be used, so you don't really need to attach a character to a primal lens, either.

But for them to say that they want to shield people from offensive content is a bad joke. They don't care about that at all. If they meant what they say, then it would be universally applied. And that is definitely not what is happening. Sometimes though, these things do get a little blown out of proportion. And I still want to pick this game up. I am a sucker for old school Japanese style games.

It's a fantastic game.
I will say that the two weakest aspects of it are war scenarios and localization.
War combat is very bare bones. They could have taken inspiration from existing tactical RPGs. Maybe that's just me?
And the localization is causing controversy because of recent issues with translators (inserting their own views rather than attempt to translate it faithfully) and companies like "Sweet Baby, Inc." Those who can read and speak Japanese will have no issues.

@@zaciroth There are lines where it's pretty obvious the localizers did what they wanted.
For example, there is one line where a character just says "Heeh..." but the localizers inputted dialogue. Mind you, that is one of several examples I found, and I'm 5 hours into the game. I'm the type of gamer who is okay with translations IF they stay true to the original's vision, by the way. If they take too many liberties, that's where it becomes a problem. Lian, in Japanese, is your typical upbeat female character. She's very similar to Nanami from Suikoden II. However, the localizers cranked her annoyance up to 20/10.
I recommend keeping it on Japanese dub. If you can read Japanese, I recommend keeping it on both. That way, it's as true to Murayama's vision as it gets. Perhaps that's just me, though.
thats a good comment unlike the paladins saying the game localization dont matter and anyone complaining about it is not a suikoden fan , people are so adamant on defending clearly bad localization on some aspects of the game just because they dont care about the real vision of the author as long as they can play the game in english, and those are the ones that call themselves "true fans" lmao.

I backed this thing up, real early on, $100 in. The most I've ever spent on a video game. I'm so glad I did. I didn't know it was going to be Yoshitaka Murayama's last (though he did leave a story outline for a sequel to this, apparently). It makes me happy to see this game is doing so well and getting so much attention. That bug is a HUGE letdown. Though, I will play it before they patch it simply because I know I won't get everyone on my first playthrough. I always played suikoden games blind, and didn't do character recruitment guides until a second playthrough. But if they still haven't fixed that bug by then, that would truly sour the experience.

1:33 : Some people have posted side by side videos and PS5 and Steam both look roughly the same, amazing, PS4 looks like a step down from PS5/Steam but still good, Switch looks like a big step down. No major surprises with any of that, but its worth noting that if your looking for the optimal visual experience, PS5 and Steam are a noticeable step ahead of the other choices.
Switch has very bad load times and the game chugs a bit when walking through towns and dungeons.
I've reserve this game for a while on PS5... but man, those loading screens on every random battle it´s just wild and make me very anxious.
Imagine playing it on the switch, with 30 secs loading time on EVERY. RANDOM. BATTLE.

I like it too, except the "Provoke" and "Dodge" ones, because these rely on RNG, which also translate into nearly non-existent dodges/provokes
Only the official Chinese translation is faithful to the Japanese dialogue, every other language uses the English mangling.
We'll have to wait for a fan patch kind of like how the PS1 Suikodens had fan patches for the localisation many years later.

Some will likely play this and not even notice the difference or care that there is a difference. And that is totally fine. Most people are saying it is pretty shit though, not just bad.

Im 10 hours in and i love the game, except Lian. That character is single handedly ruining this games story for me.
Im tired of stupid, annoying characters in these types of games and Lian is by far the worse. I'm praying i can take her out of my party soon. I have a better grapple damager already who does more damage.
If Lian stays a big part of the games story i will quite playing. Or just skip the story altogether. She single handedly deflates all the drama and escalation of every scene in the game.
Ok a couple more hours into the game and the war has officially kicked off and I got control of my first unit.
Lian has become much more serious as well once it becomes apperant how bad things are.
This is much better. I thought she was gonna act like an idiot airhead throughout the entire game but it looks like these events have knocked some sense into her. I kinda like that for her character so...well played Eiyudan Chronicles.
Localization always hate "grunts". Or a lot of "non worded" voice lines. At least if they are gonna put dialogue over these grunts, they should make appear as "inner monologues" if they insist of localizing a grunt into sentences if they think the english speaking people won't understand the nuance of a "grunt" or a Hrmmm...
The people in control can't process subtlety or nuance. Need character to say " I'm sad now" , indead of "sigh".
tbh if only grunts that show disappointment they just can write, "ah cmon" or "Really", or "Oh" "ahh" an empty reaction that didnt have any meaning what so ever. why game this day always like this. did i need push my self to get N3 exam just for reading JP text.
I refused to watch any other reviews of this game until you did yours. I knew your love for the suikoden series would give credibility to your opinion. Great video, worth the wait.
Me in here hoping these guys revisit the Vandal Hearts concept again too, the unique structure of that TRPG always has me coming back and I want more, though its sequels never captured my heart like the first one did.

So you should never talk to her.

Load times before and after battles, bad translations, and the auto scroll skips dialogue which also makes that damn chirp noise after every press of the confirm button. A bunch of awkward small issues that can be patched for sure. Other than that this game is pure suikoden goodness, 9/10 baby
I've unfortunately seen some pretty bad translation examples for this game...even if you have the japanese dub selected, you're still going to see that badly translated text.
That's a pretty harsh statement @12:59. This is clearly a QA issue that was missed, which is bound to happen with a kind of project like this. It can even happen with AAA titles as well; it's just a shame it had to be related to character recruitment, which is super important in these games to achieve the best ending. What compounds this even more is by having over 100 characters, so... Yeah, I can see how problems can happen. But to suggest people not buy the game because of it or until it's actually patched I think is a little harsh to say the least. It will be fixed.
I forgot to ask: I saw in your video battle footage several kind of silly enemies. Are there a lot of teddy bears and silly looking enemies in this game? That's one thing that could be a negative imo...

Turning on or off random encounters should be an option in any modern jrpg. As you said it annoys you during puzzles and also you can do challenge runs without leveling up...

It's sad that this game seems to suffer from what many other JRPGs suffer from: poor English translations. These companies need to hire better translators. Unicorn Overlord did a bad job with the English localization. There were times a character would only say a few words in Japanese, but the English subtitle shows like 3 sentences. There were also times when a character clearly just said another character's name, but the English subtitle says something else. My friend, who speaks Japanese, got a few good laughs when she saw the English translations.

Having been playing the crap out of Star Ocean: First Departer R and Star Ocean: Second Story R. and playing the OG Suikoden 1 and 2 games through emulation along with FF1-6, the random encounter aspect doesn't bother me at all.
There is game breaking bug that wont let me continue the story. Late in game after i talk to seign on top of the castle . Then u have to talk to euma. It says on current goal you cant get to sleep. Try taking a walk. But in game its day light and nothing progresses the story. At all. I have no backup saves.

Last question, this is the first turn-based game I've played that doesn't show the enemies' life bar at the time of the fight, I'm completely lost without knowing if that enemy is dying or not!

There are a lot of RPGs that don't show the enemies' health bars. While it's annoying, I can tolerate it.
When the enemy's name is red, that means it's gonna die this turn. Usually it will take 1 or 2 attacks from this point.

For all those that worry about spoilers so kind of skip around in reviews he actually recommends NOT BUYING THIS GAME UNTIL IT GETS PATCHED. Right now there are bugs that prevent you from being able to recruit all characters, which can have adverse effects on other characters and the endings.
Still own suikoden 1&2 physical copies for the ps1. Love the second one. Looking forward to this when it goes on sale. The backlog is real!!!!

what I love is there isn't any bloat, pacing issues or "devs not respecting the player's time" feeling that you find a lot in JRPGs nowadays : FF7R games, Octopath, the Trails, etc etc. Eiyuden grabs you and doesn't let go, like good JRPGs of old!

about to beat this game, it was great, except a few characters were really hard to get(Hogan and the Beyblade characters)over all GREAT GAME, really brought the nostalgia of Suikoden 2 back. the music isn't as timeless as Suikoden 1,2, and 3.

Suikoden 1 is relatively short, I'd start there just to see if you like the style of the franchise, it's a lower time investment and still worth playing even if later entries may be better.

Actually do recruit that one character you need the old spirit guy character in your party and if you talk to him at the end at the castle, he would tell you about her if she actually very old

This game gets a lot better mid-late game, but I really wish the re-balanced magic & hero combos to be more useful.
Only a hamdful of hero combos are more useful than just having the 2+ characters separately basic attack, and most magic spells are powerful than basic attacking too.
Magic finally started getting a bit stronger when I was about 30 hours in, and even then it was limited to a small number of spells on an even smaller number of heroes.
It's amazing,also don't listen to reviews from people who have never played a suikoden game I'd seen one saying there was no fast travel 🤦
I bought this game on ps5. I did everything wrong that you could do and was still able to recruit Lam with no issues. Maybe the bug isn't on ps5?

So I've encountered a couple of problems on Switch (I don't know if they're exclusive) that are annoying enough for me to not play it.
1. You cannot use Auto-Advance, it works in voiced cutscenes but if you try to talk to NPC's with it, then it closes the dialogue box before it's typed out, meaning you constantly have to toggle it between cutscenes and exploration making you have to try and guess where cutscenes are triggered.
2. It takes a good 10 seconds to load random battles which REALLY breaks the flow of the game. I know it's an indie title but they've had some good funding and it's 2024.
These are minor grievances for most, I know. But they personally annoyed me enough within the first half an hour that I had to put it down. I hope they patch it up because I've been excited for this for years.
Good to know the loading isn't just on xbox which I'm currently playing on but will replay on ps5 down the line. I'll continue to play this on gamepass until the little issues are fixed. But having a lot of fun so far!
Suikoden 2 is my Favorite JRPG of All Time so seeing this JRPG from the old Suikoden Team really makes me want to Play the Game
On PS5 it constantly overheats my system, it's a bug in the game, sent a bug report to 505

You did not talk about how save points are far from one another, the long loading in combats and many other technical issues.

I'm 9 hours into the PC version, and what I would say about the save system is that the autosaves are too far apart. The save points don't seem too bad, but there are times when you look at the time of the autosave and it was 30 minutes or more ago. In the event of a crash (or power failure) this would prove annoying. No stability issues on the PC version for me so far, but I hear the Switch version definitely suffers from crashes.

...I just saw this post after writing my own comment lol.
Guess I'll need to look into what the translators did once some people compile stuff (which given how people have been compiling stuff lately due to Sweet Baby's BS may not be hard to find out nowadays).
Granted some people also embellish how much the translators screw things over (Unicorn Overlord for instance hasn't really had anything in it that pushes woke BS and at worst expands on the Japanese lines for the sake of sounding more old Medieval English speech patterns you'd see in the Noble's court which is livable given the rest of the game is great...if it's like that I can give Eiyden a pass...if it's Dragonmaid anime levels of bad though ya I'd be out). As long as it's no worse than the localizations done from the PS2 era to around just before when woke shit was being hamfisted into our faces (last 5 years or so) it'll be tolerable at the very least if it's to play and at least understand the story of the game (basically as long as it's no worse than Pokemon's donuts translation of rice balls...ya wrong word but both are food and barely have relevance on the main plot...was it stupid though ya won't deny that but not gonna say no to a game I'm excited for (granted Eiyden would be more of a random pickup for me than full on excitement...a must have pickup would be Trails/Ys/Tales) just for some minor translation issues).

The Suikoden series is my favorite video game series ever, period. I owned and beat I-V numerous times, going back and recruiting all 108 stars of Destiny, and even tried my best to get through the DS game 😂

i have played the first hour of the game and of that first hour 50 minutes are dialogue and cutscenes i dont know if want to continue playing it.
i feel bad to set my expectation to has same as Suikoden 2, its not that high bar, BUT, its something like Suikoden 1 but better. maybe as same as Suikoden 5 too. the inventory system should be bigger too, but im glad they didnt share slot with accessory. also maybe some in deepth for the Rune lore? i mean what hook me with Suikoden is How powerfull true rune is. and MC usually held that 1 true rune from 27 True rune. and if you play Suikoden IV or V you know how scary True rune power is.
tho, i still waiting for the clue to recruit people, i hope they made secret / true ending if we get all the recruitable character like how Suikoden game always
I'm actually sort of glad runes were more of a McGuffin in this game than in Suikoden. The 27 true runes created a sort of narrative limitation because they were just sort of there, in a way. Rune Barrows and the primal lenses seem to have an entire ancient civilization tied to them, which might be put to use in a story further down the line (even if Murayama won't be the one to write it; I think Eiyuden as a franchise will live or die by how the sequel does). They already have in-world limits on who can use rune lenses and how well they can be used, so you don't really need to attach a character to a primal lens, either.
