- FIRST IMPRESSION of MANILA, PHILIPPINES | NOT What I Expected!
This is my first impression vlog on Day 1 of Manila, Philippines. Manila, Philippines has many popular tourist areas such as BGC, Makati, Venice Canal Mall, mall of Asia and much more. Filipinos in Manila, Philippines speak English very well in addition toTagalog. This video focuses on Makati area of Manila. In future Philippines videos I will visit various islands and towns such as Palawan, El Nido, Cebu, Siargao, Bohol, and Boracay.

The people talk to you because you look sincere and happy when you’re talking to them.
The Philippines is a vlogger's paradise. Filipinos are really appreciative of vloggers since they know that vloggers show to the world the positives of the Country that are often ignored by foreign media outlets.
Others might think or even say that foreign vloggers are just baiting Filipinos.
I'll tell you a secret but don't get offended. Many Filipinos really think that they are taking advantage if foreign vloggers by baiting them into visiting the Philippines, spend time and money here which help many Filipinos earn an income, grow the economy, realize more revenues for the Government, and make videos promoting the Philippines to the world. 😊😊😊
You'd be surprise to know later on that many Filipinos don't skip ads so they can help vloggers earn from the videos.
Even so, don't put your guard down too much because like any other Country, there are some people here who take advantage of others.
But generally, Filipinos are really nice and extremely hospitable. Godbless! 🙏
I agree. I would suggest to foreigners to watch out for some taxi drivers and just use grab, so they do not have to deal with "add fifty" lol
@@snarveien1853 ☺👍
I do think everyone can benefit from vlogging here in the Philippines. I enjoy making these types of videos and helping local businesses/economies, so why not make them in the country that appreciates it most and also watches the videos the most. We help each other!
Well said.
I do NOT see anything wrong if a foreign vlogger visit the Philippines to get more subscribers. Its a win-win situation for both vlogger and our country. We filipinos (OFWs) also go to foreign countries to work and earn more money.
Just subbed coz yeah we Filipinos support those who support our country hehe.. enjoy and be resilient as we are😅🥳
Mabuhay Jonathan! Glad you finally made your way to the only Spanish- colonized and American- ruled country in Asia! We love how our history has enriched our heritage and now compliments the beauty of our country's landscape. Our people's friendliness and hospitality is natural, not fake nor a form of validation from foreigners who visit us. You can encounter it from street kids or in history books about past presidents who opened the only door amongst all nations to thousands of Jews fleeing the Nazis, refugee Russians escaping communisn, and housed and educated Vietnamese who escaped Saigon but were lost at sea. We love life and enjoy the company of visitors. Be patient with our traffic, internet not as fast nor as accessible as in Thailand (imagine supplying it ito more than 7,000 rocks separated by seas 🥺), English not as sharp as Americans. Promise you we have many other things that will amaze you! Welcome and enjoy your stay. Be safe! 🇺🇲🇵🇭🇺🇲🇵🇭🇺🇲🇵🇭🇺🇲🇵🇭🇺🇲🇵🇭
Mabuhay! So glad to finally be here! I agree, the locals' friendliness seems 100% genuine. I lost my gopro yesterday, and all of the locals were going out of their way to help me get it back. So helpful! Unfortunately, it disappeared with the taxi, but I was very appreciative of their attempts to help me
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL So sorry to hear that. That happened to Mergim, a Thailand-based vlogger. A bunch of tricycle drivers were hunting down the last tric he used and finally found him but no luck. He went back to his hotel and it was in his drawer after all. He was so happy he celebrated by giving cash to the tric drivers who helped him. I wish you had same luck. Beleive or not, I lost my wallet with lots of cash while ridiing a jeepney only to have a policeman bring it to my home the next day, nothing missing. Be safe and hope it doesnt dampen your spirits. Shit happens 😏
You forgot Indonesians as well.
@@sherinick7523 Sorry Sheri, what do you mean?
@@travellingvloggerfan12 he also mentioned the Vietnamese and he got lost with the translation. Unfortunately, it didn't last long and got so confused and someone asked for clarification. Really, to my surprised, what I also wrote here is confusing. and you would also probably asked me.. what do I mean? read again.
Mabuhay! Feel free to speak English and ask questions😀 Filipinos will always find time to help out.
hahah, they do understand my English extremely well! I just enjoy learning the local language of Tagalog!
WHEN YOU SAY THANK YOU SAY IT LIKE THIS "SALAMAT PO" PO AT THE END OF EVERY WORD OR SENTENCE IS A SIGN OF RESPECT TO PEOPLE YOU ARE TALKING TO
Foreigner viewer here man, when I say to you, PLEASE do not be scared of uploading extensive videos, we that are any fans of this country absolutely love the longer videos, you seem like a non biased traveler from Thailand, but I enjoyed your content.
Long videos/vlogs are actually new for me.. I’m studying other vloggers and will continue to improve them with each video. I’ll definitely have some longer ones!
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Awesome, look forward to your vids
Filipinos are appreciative of foreign vloggers due to biased news of local mainstream media. For the past decades, they covered few good news and a lot of negative spin about the PH mostly in English. Thus, foreign media could easily pick it up. Observe, shift or preference to social media in conveying good news and getting balanced information is happening. Enjoy your PH adventure, the unpretentious and mesmerizing country in SEA :) Way to go!
That makes sense. Many foreigners might have the wrong impression of the Philippines. I think videos like this talking with locals will help people see how Filipinos really are!
when you don’t like the news in mainstream media you call it bias but if you like it its not! how about filtering/sugarcoating the news so you will like it?
@@shamanmagnus1925 Mainstream media in the Philippines are BIAS. And I think you're blind 🙃
@@_SJ hahaha if you’re not agree with news you called it bias! maybe im blind but you are deaf and blind!
@@shamanmagnus1925 There are a lot bad news in other countries as well but they don't go out of the country. They are kept within the country and not happily reported by the media. Singapore is a very good example of that. They don't report the bad news happening in their country. Vietnam is another country that you don't see the media reporting anything negative about their country.
*Yes, you're already in the Philippines. No need for one-word sentences. The Filipinos communicate well in English, and are very helpful. But thankfully, they don't think your one-word "coffee?" is rude at all. But yes, they're very different from the Thais in terms of English fluency.*
I love how positive all the Filipinos are in these comments bro! You found an awesome place, enjoy!
I was there in 2013 and loved it, but actually thinking about coming back next year so I might see you there!!
You are always welcome to PH.
Most positive in the world, without a doubt
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL now that you're soon gonna be famous out there, fly me out to be your camerman 😂
Welcome to the Philippines! Your eyes are so beautiful! 😀
Haha thank you so much!!
Filipino's are the most awesome people in the world. I get back in 3 months and move there next year and cannot wait.
FYI: Some English words do not have a direct translation in the vernacular
Don't hesitate to ask for directions if you think you're lost, most Filipinos will gladly help you
Thank you for visiting the PH ! ! ! 🤩
I've noticed that your channel gained 1500 new subscribers since you uploaded your 1st video in the Philippines. Congratulations.
It did! Philippines has the most supportive locals for RUclips channels!
Welcome to the Philippines! 🤩 Enjoy your vacation here! 🇵🇭💯
I couldn't agree more! I couldn't be prouder to be a Filipino. Foreign countries hire Filipinos not that they can speak English, but 'cause they're hardworker and resilient.
Lovely interaction with the locals! Welcome to the Philippines with 17 regions, 81 provinces, 136 cities, 1,494 municipalities, and 41,995 barangays. 🇵🇭
The locals are so friendly and chatty! It makes traveling alone much more enjoyable
Welcome to our beloved Philippines bud👍 Like any other countries, Philippines is not perfect but we have a lot to offer. Culture, food, places and most of all, the people. Ideal to explore Manila, Makati BGC area. Maybe China Town before going to the Islands of Cebu, Moalboal, Oslob, and Bohol. Palawan, El Nido, Coron & Siargao. Enjoy exploring and stay healthy and safe 🙏 🇵🇭
Thank you very much! Such a long list of places I want to see!
Tagaytay City before going to Visayas and Mindanao. Only 2 hrs away from Manila, some of the best views in d world & d smallest active volcano in d world. A volcano within a lake within a volcano within a lake.
Welcome to The Philippines..... new subscriber here.. First plan ahead of time when you travel here especially Manila because of the traffic. True we cant beat Thailand when it comes to internet and some infrastructure . But if you really want adventure .. Philippines is the one. You mention , you're a solo traveler... single at the moment :)) ,well better hehhehe. You still visit places like Boracay , Siargao , El Nido , Coron , Bohol , Cebu. etc.... Take it easy so you dont feel drained and tired while travelling our country. Its RAINY SEASON... so always check the weather forecast... Have safe and enjoyable stay here.. God bless

Hi! I'm glad you made it to the Philippines. Welcome to my beautiful country! Yes extremely helpful, a typical Filipino trait apart from being friendly and always smiling. They will walk an extra mile just to help you. Please try to visit my beautiful island home Romblon, Romblon once you get settled in. Take care. ☺️🌺🇵🇭
Thank you Jonathan for promoting our country Philippines
With 20,000 views on your video of the Philippines, in just 2 days of posting, I think your channel with definitely grow as you have hoped for.
The locals have been super supportive so far!
Filipinos absolutely love basketball. When you saw the hoop in the middle of the street, I remembered how many courts I would come across just full of people, even if it was blazing hot. Welcome to PH dude! I hope everything I told you about it proves true!
When we went back at night we sat at that restaurant/ bar upstairs on the balcony watching them play. The kids and adults playing together. I can see the love of bball here!

Philippines is a Basketball crazy nation.. we play basketball even barefoot or flip flops, rainy, even floody or after typhoon you can still see filipinos playing hoops .. from made of wood back boards to improvised courts we just love to play basketball..
In the PH, to be respectful without feeling like you’re butting in, a simple “excuse me” followed by what you want to say is how it’s done.
OR “kamusta po” then followed with your question - kamusta means how are you and adding the “po” at the end of your sentence is sign of respect.
5:10 he asked “in Tagalog?” That’s because by saying “delicious!” it’s enough and widely understood. More widely used expression in the PH. Common expressions and greetings in English in the PH and you’d be fine. More than anything is the different accent that locals may not be used to and generally English accent is fine. Again, you’d be 👌🏼
Mabuhay! Awesome! You just only saw a snippet of Metro Manila and the entire Philippines. There is so much to see in the country. Everyone speaks English in the country so it will not be difficult to communicate. And a lot of things (including food and stay) are cheap. You just have to google it (or better yet, ask the next Filipino standing beside you!).You just have to ask. WE WISH YOU AN AWESOME STAY! Good luck and enjoy.
Found your Channel by chance and def watching you for some more!. You're right. Filipinos really stop whatever they have doing just to help tho.. 🙌🙌
Mabuhay Philippines 🇵🇭
Enjoy the Philippines! Watching from Kyoto, Japan. Will be there in two weeks. Hope to see you!
Ohh I love Japan! Thank you! Enjoy your trip as well!
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL thanks! By the way, don't be surprised with encounters such as what happened at the pares food stall. Some are a little shy in speaking English and some are not confident but once they've warmed up, all will be good. See yah! 😃
If you ever have the time, try visiting the northern part of the country. I'd recommend the ilocos region, Cordillera (mountainous) region, and batanes which is considered the most beautiful province in the Philippines.
They also have islands and beaches there specifically in the Ilocos region. While the Cordillera region is known for its cold climate in a tropical country.
You should also try looking up las casas Filipinas de Acuzar in bagac bataan, which is pretty much a town full of hundreds of years old Filipino houses. It's pretty close to manila so it's an easy travel.
When in the city of Manila, go at the following:
1. National Museums
(Allot at least a day to visit these museums, you will almost visit the whole Philippines going here.)
1.1 National Museum of Fine Arts
1.2 National Museum of Natural History
1.3 Museum of Anthropology
2. Rizal Park
3. Intramuros
4. Binondo (oldest China Town)
5. SM MOA, sunset at the bay
Thank you so much!
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL As far as i know, you're not allowed to film or vlog inside museums though. But if you just want to learn more about our culture and history, would recommend it too. And i would add to the list Ayala Museum in Makati where you can learn about PH history from prehistoric times to the present in a fun and visual way through beautifully made dioramas. They have lots of artifacts on display too. :)
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Ayala Museum too.
Filipino language and any versions of Filipino "dialects " from different islands has a fusion of Spanish and English words and phrases.
It is the right move to communicate... dont hesitate to ask question or seek assistance, filipinos are more than glad to help you...welcome to the philippines...
I live in Mindanao and when I need to travel back to the USA, I have a stay over in Manila. My wife is paranoid something will happen to me if I step out and try to go see things other than a hotel or the airport. She says the streets can be dangerous so, it's nice to see your video and what you have shown. About your lost luggage, a lot of travelers in South East Asia just take a hardshell carry-on about 20 inches and then buy anything extra when they arrive. Just a tip to avoid the extra time at the luggage claim area and the possibility of lost luggage.
That's the good characteristics of Filipinos. We are very hopitable as long as you're not rude towards us. Good point.. You are interacting with the locals.
The vendor was teasing the other person for being shy. He was telling him to talk to you and asking him why he’s putting on a mask when your viewers in America can see him. When he waved, he said, “Watch, I’m greeting them.” (Teasing him about his shyness).
I remember playing basketball in the middle of the street as a kid back in Philippines. You showing that brings back some great memories 🤩
It’s 9pm here and I’m now craving coffee 😅. Asking by saying “Coffee?” didn’t come as rude at all.
Welcome to our beautiful country...explore the more than 7 thousand islands of the
Philippines🇵🇭

welcome to the Philippines!bet you'll enjoy the malls, beaches, falls etc.enjoy and stay safe!
I like how you talk to people & learn things about the culture. More interesting to watch & helps me to feel like I'm getting to know more about what it's like there. Thanks!
Beef Pares is good. First time tasting it in Jersey City Filipino restaurant. Never really tried it when I was in the Philippines. Of course, local cuisine wasn't really served nationally like the Bicol Express and others back then. Now you can find them almost anywhere in the Philippines
New subscriber here sir.. enjoy your stay in our country.. 🇵🇭😁👍👍👍..
Very interesting video, Jonathan. The people of the Philippines are extremely warm, welcoming and try to help tourist in any way they can. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay there.

WARM WELCOME TO THE PHILIPPINES😊
Welcome to our country😀🇵🇭, The Philippines, try to go to some historical places so you will know our history through beautiful places like Cebu, Ilocos, Bataan, Batanes, Manila and many others and the famous food in those places. Have a nice vacation.😀
Welcome to philippines man! Just to give you a heads up.. if you are gonna be travelling outside of manila. It is gonna be different language thats gonna be spoken from different parts of the philippines. But most of them can speak either tagalog or english. Have a safe trip and enjoy man!! 😊😊😊
Thanks for your heads up.
You are probably the only one I’ve seen who actually have conversation with the locals. Well I don’t watch many travel vloggers also 😅 learned something new (conyo?) can’t wait to go next year and move back in 4 years.
16K views in less than 24hrs of uploading! Amazing! Thank you for uploading your experiences and sharing it with us! I hope to visit Philippines soon
Just subscribe and not skipping ads as a show of gratitude for promoting us to other foreign people.
Wow, thank you so much for your support!! I’ll try my best to document everything the Philippines has to offer!
The guy in the 'Beef Soup' street food cart is trying to greet his friends since he knows he will be seen by your followers! :)
You just tried 'Pares' (the 'Beef Soup' he mentioned). That is one of my favorites and not really the first street food a foreigner might experience - you are lucky to see one immediately!
That was actually the first street food I had here! It was very flavorful and filling for breakfast!
Cheers usually is being used when you're like drinking beer 🍺 or liquor and you'd like to bump in your drink to them or the other party, then you say cheers to that! to celebrate like let's toast to this,I really like that you are joining the locals that's the best way for you to get used to our culture.Welcome to our country.

Good on you mate getting more to know of our beautiful Manila!!!
2:23 It's perfectly fine, it doesn't come across as rude at all. To be honest, Filipinos are so laid back there's no need for formalities, that's just my opinion. You could just use single word or phrases as long as it's English, we got you. 😅👍
12:35 This is the Ayala Triangle Park just right beside that establishment you're walking there's a restaurant called "Blackbird", which was once an airport called Nielson Tower or Manila International Air Terminal. I believe it was the very first airport of the Philippines during the American era. The entire Ayala Avenue was once a runway.
We just love this guy Jonathan. We love all of his RUclips posts. He is so realistic, very positive, and very pleasant.
Heyyy thank you so much!
First and foremost, if you are in Metro Manila, go to BGC, Taguig. Stroll around the BGC High Street and Uptown Bonifacio. You can also go to the American cemetery for the WWII soldiers, but you need proper attire and ID. Then go to Venice Grand Canal Mall in Mckinley Hill, Taguig which is a walking distance from the American cemetery. You also have to checkout SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City and I'm sure you've already checked out Makati City. From there, you can go to Northern Luzon where they have the mountain scenery in Baguio or Sagada. Or the beaches in Ilocos Norte and La Union. There's also a Spanish architecture city in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Then you can go to the Island life/Beach life in Boracay or Palawan El Nido or Surigao.
Batanes is also good, in the northen tip part of Luzon.
Welcome to PHILIPPINES. Looking forward for your adventures in our country.

Positive vibes! Glad to see you are happy being in the country. Philippines has so much to offer tourist only if they are willing to mingle and accept the people. You will enjoy more the places you visit, tbe food you eat, and the country will benefit also from your vlog. You are indirectly promoting the beauty of the place without trying too. Filipinos are really hospitable without pretense and very helpful to foreigners. Just be careful and be open minded. Enjoy your stay and stay well and happy. Cheers!

Soft spoken and polite tourist. Have a blast in the Philippines :)
Philippines has a lot to offer if you go to south dialect is different you to north part its also different . But our main language is tagalog infused with Spanish and English so you will be at ease in our culture and also the locals are welcoming just to be kind and they will treat you as part of the family. And if one more thing eat variety of Filipino food it's awesome.
I’ve noticed the English and Spanish words while locals are speaking! I can understand a few words actually. I’m looking forward to trying some more local food on Cebu island!
