Also, the most densely populated thing only applies to Manila city itself- which is a small part of Metro Manila. It’s basically the old, forgotten part of the city and it’s not the biggest city in Metro Manila anymore. Metro Manila as a whole (16 cities) has the density of Paris. So it’s dense but not crazy dense like Manila city.
Zane was already in Lyceum University, he should have gone up at Bayleaf Hotel which the school's HRM students manage. It has a rooftop restaurant that serves really good food, and provides a panoramic view of the city.
I may have commented too soon, but seeing Zane go to Harbor View, that is certainly a good spot, too. Nice. Good thing he still like the Lechon which looks a bit more overcooked, compared to the one he had in Binondo, so most likely it is less juicy. And, hearing him say 'wow' while eating Halo-Halo is very endearing. Good thing they had ube halaya, or purple yam paste there, instead of ube ice cream as in many establishments. That place you passed by around 3:40-3:45 is HUB Make Lab, a cool hub of arts and fashion stores that feature products made by local crafts brands. The building it's in is called the First United Building, named the most beautiful office building in the area because of its traditional architecture. There's also a chill cafe and barber shop there. :) Btw, summer heat is kicking in so please stay hydrated! Heat stroke is a major health risk in the tropics. For cooler weather south of Manila, I suggest you go 2 to 3 hours away to Tagaytay, which is greener and more elevated and has amazing natural sights like farmlands and a volcano.

There are still old Chinese stores and wholesale suppliers in Old Manila. Now, the Central Business Districts are Makati, Ortigas and the newest/most modern is BGC.
Visit the American memorial in BGC. This is the largest American memorial in Asia. Similar to Normandy to honor the fallen heroes of WWII. So beautiful and peaceful in the heart of the modern city full of skyscrapers.
That’s the old business district from the 50s and before. The new ones are Makati, BGC, and Ortigas, which are all further inland. Also, there’s 180 different languages. If you go to another part, you’ll have to learn another language
The lechon you tried is not the traditional spiced whole lechon roasted over charcoal fire. The one you tried is lechon kawali (wok) which is sliced chops pan-fried in a wok. I suggest Rico’s lechon which is a lechon chain based in Cebu which also serves other traditional Filipino food such as Sinigang & Kare-kare. The fruit in the halo halo is jackfruit.
Nice tour. Do this kind of walking tour in Makati cbd. It kind of gets forgotten about by everyone because they either go to the super old area like this video or the super new, like BGC. But Makati is a nice mix of both, and it’s a huge area. Start around Salcedo Village and just start walking South. Maybe end up in Washington Sycip Park or Greenbelt. Greenbelt has a nice museum of Philippine history

BTW if you want to escape the Philippines' heat for a while, you can take a quick trip to Tagaytay City. It's like an hour or so away from Binondo. It has a fantastic view of the Taal Lake and Taal Volcano.
They don’t call it halo-halo for nothing. Halo means “mix”. Halo-halo means a mix of stuff. Based on just looking, the custardy thing is leche flan and can be bought as a separate dessert usually. The other fruit that’s bright yellow is langka I think. The round light yellow thing you ate that you thought was a citrus fruit is I think a saba banana (it’s a thick banana that we use to make desserts with and for cooking in the Philippines - it’s used in Banana Q, turon, halohalo and minatamis na saging).
Amazing vlog! Visited Philippines in 2019 and had a blast. People are very friendly and helpful 🥰. I did’t get to do too much touristy stuff but I had a chance to go to Tagatay and visited the famous Venice Grand Canal Mall. It was super hot but a welcome climate change from snowy Canada 🥰.

You missed the main historical sites in Intramuros.. please do visit the area again and maybe look at google what you missed. It is the biggest part of Intramuros from historical perspective. Also have lots of patiennce, specifically for the traffic if you are staying in the metro area and also the services might not be on par with the west but the people makes up for it.

Makati is the best part of Metro Manila because it’s walkable, green, has many local restaurants, weekend markets (Salcedo Village and Legazpi Village). It doesn’t feel fake like BGC. The buildings have many different architectural styles. They’re not all modern glass skyscrapers (but it has many of those too). It’s not the most interesting place to see as a tourist, but it’s a nice safe place to stay or live and you’ll have absolutely everything you need within walking distance. See the Ayala Museum in Greenbelt if you want a quick, concise history of the Philippines.

I just watched the part where you said you want to learn a bit of a language as well, so what I could advise to adapt is to add "po" at the end of your sentences when you're talking to a elderly local (example "Thank You po" or "Salamat po"). "Po" is a way of showing respect and politeness to the one you're talking to.

I suggest you visit BGC the most modern places you can visit in the Philippines and the Local Beaches like Boracay, El Nido Palawan, Coron and Bohol, Cebu.

Omg! You can walk man. You went to Binondo, Intramuros, Rizal Park already in your 2nd day only. Try to visit the City Hall , the Manila Zoo & the Aroceros Park. It's within walking distance from Ramada where you're staying in Binondo. Stay safe!
Intramuros is currently undergoing a massive rehabilitation removing all the sidewalk vendors and cleaning up the place. At one point it was completely taken over by illegal settlers and are being relocated to socialized housing.I wish they replant trees in the area to make the area cleaner and more presentable to the general public.
I wish Manila Cathedral would offer walking tours. There are crypts and other interesting memorabilia at the lower levels. I was privileged enough to go into them, as well as in the bell towers, during a photography workshop our group hosted.
My memory of Manila Cathedral during our educational tour in grade school is that the tomb of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi is at the side of the altar, with a statue of the conquistador lying on top of it. Tama ba?

Spanish is not spoken in the Philippines, but Filipino languages have Spanish influence in them. The degree varies depending on which Filipino language you look at; the Tagalog language apparently has 20% Spanish words in it's vocabulary. Vocabulary is as far as the Spanish influence on the language goes though. The grammar is completely different compared to western grammar. Tagalog grammar specifically has a very ancient Malay grammar structure similar to old Javanese. There's also a large Chinese influence on Filipino culture. A third of all Filipinos have Chinese blood in them. There's many Filipino words and foods that has Chinese roots. Think of Filipino culture as a blend of southeast Asian, east Asian, and Latino cultures with a pinch of American culture. Throughout it's history, even before colonization, the Philippine islands has always been a blend of different cultures from all over Asia due to its geographic position. During the Spanish era, western colonial and native American culture became a part of that blend due to new trade routes through the Pacific opening up.

You missed Fort Santiago and the various baluartes. Thats the best part of Intramuros. The middle part where you were is not well-kept. Casa Manila (where you got the shake) also has a lot inside it and it’s pretty

You can eat lechon with rice. Almost everything we eat in the Philippines has to be eaten with rice. Next time, try Mang Inasal, Jollibee.

Try to visit also the modern side of Manila like BGC (Serendra High Street, Uptown Mall, Market Market, Landers, Mitsuoko Mall) ; McKinley Hills (Venice Mall) ; Makati (Glorietta & Greenbelt) ; Rockwell Makati; Eastwood City; Manila Bay (MOA, Ayala Mall, Okada, Solaire, City of Dreams) ; Ortigas Center, etc

Intramuros is currently undergoing a massive rehabilitation removing all the sidewalk vendors and cleaning up the place. At one point it was completely taken over by illegal settlers and are being relocated to socialized housing.I wish they replant trees in the area to make the area cleaner and more presentable to the general public.

I wish Manila Cathedral would offer walking tours. There are crypts and other interesting memorabilia at the lower levels. I was privileged enough to go into them, as well as in the bell towers, during a photography workshop our group hosted.
My memory of Manila Cathedral during our educational tour in grade school is that the tomb of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi is at the side of the altar, with a statue of the conquistador lying on top of it. Tama ba?
@@chitocucio4573 I think that's San Agustin Church, which is also located near Manila Cathedral. San Agustin is the oldest church in the Philippines, if I remember correctly, and one of the most beautiful in my opinion.

Spanish is not spoken in the Philippines, but Filipino languages have Spanish influence in them. The degree varies depending on which Filipino language you look at; the Tagalog language apparently has 20% Spanish words in it's vocabulary.
Vocabulary is as far as the Spanish influence on the language goes though. The grammar is completely different compared to western grammar. Tagalog grammar specifically has a very ancient Malay grammar structure similar to old Javanese.
There's also a large Chinese influence on Filipino culture. A third of all Filipinos have Chinese blood in them. There's many Filipino words and foods that has Chinese roots.
Think of Filipino culture as a blend of southeast Asian, east Asian, and Latino cultures with a pinch of American culture. Throughout it's history, even before colonization, the Philippine islands has always been a blend of different cultures from all over Asia due to its geographic position. During the Spanish era, western colonial and native American culture became a part of that blend due to new trade routes through the Pacific opening up.
Tagalog is absolutely nothing like SPANISH. No need to impress foreigners with a lie. Everyone in the Philippines is aware that Tagalog doesn't sound like Spanish. No need to give TRIVIA and FUN FACTS about Tagalog being similar to Spanish. Basta por pabore. Muchas Gracias.

You missed Fort Santiago and the various baluartes. Thats the best part of Intramuros. The middle part where you were is not well-kept. Casa Manila (where you got the shake) also has a lot inside it and it’s pretty
