Thank you so much, I opened mine w/a small straight screwdriver. Found the terminals jumped them 5seconds each press the reset and I got lights! Charging now. Thank you!
Constructive criticism: Long intro and nothing sped up so i have to watch you turn a screwdriver. More importantly, tell me why we are even doing this or how to know if this might solve the problem while you're resetting it. I had to go back and search through the long intro to see if you mentioned why you just did a reset. I think most people who find this video just want to fix their battery, and I should be able to within 10 or 20 seconds know if the rest is worth watching. Say that first. :). Thanks for the video. It was helpful.
@mnevitt33 EXCELLENT comment! I see that the author of the video agrees and thanks you for your feedback (kudos to the OP). Your comment/feedback needs to made on MOST videos posted on YT. Boiled down it's the advice given to those giving a public speech: 1) say what the speech is about 2) explain in detail what you want to say & 3) summarize and remind the audience what you said
Thanks for the info. Did you test the voltage before you reset? Most of the videos say the charger won't recognize the battery if voltage is below 30v. Just wondering if reset does any good until voltage is brought to 30-35v?
Jeff, I have tried this method a few times now and nothing. Does the jumper just have to make contact? Or does the jumper have to enter into the holes?
Have you ever successfully reset the “four flashing lights“ on a 40V 6AH battery model OP40605? Or a 40V 4AH battery model OP40404? I can’t find anyone who’s documented a working procedure for either. These boards have two sets of reset pads lined up side-by-side. I’ve tried various permutations of jumpering one, the other, or both, with and without pushing the test button, all to no avail.
I have had that issue before on one of my batteries. What I did for that was follow the reset process with a jumper and at the same time I pressed on the battery's power level indicator button on the side of the battery. The issue was resolved after that.
That only works for the single-reset-terminal boards. Have you ever successfully reset the type I mentioned in my original comment? If so, can you share the procedure?
Great video! I have a ryobi mower. The batteries stopped working after just a year of use. I saw your video and thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately it did not work for me. The batteries light “fuel indicator” are lighting up in just the 1st and 3rd marks. Do you have any experience with this?
Good video! My battery appears dead. I opened it - jumped it - no power once I put it back together. With it open I can press the tab to show battery and it's 4 bars. But once I put it back together insert in charge it just looks dead. Any ideas?
The first thing I would do is try it on another charge. If it fails then there is a method where you can jump it and follow that by immediately pressing the battery power level button on the side of the battery. It it flashes and then drops to a single bar then there is a high chance that it will take a charge. Keep me posted.
Yes, I had a battery show that it was fully charged but then wouldn't run a tool. I fixed it by using the reset method that I used in this video but at the same time as holding the jumper I pressed the charge indicator button on the side of the battery. The power level dropped to the lowest charge level and when I put it on the charger the battery took a charge.
I have an older style 5ah 40v pack that only shows 1 LED for charge. Put it on the charger and it immediately shows it as full charge, no red error LEDs. wonder if it has a similar problem. Any thoughts?
What I have done before is put a dead battery on the charger for a few second at a time, about 20 times. The battery took a bit of a charge and I was able to reset it. I have also tried that same process with one battery but I couldn't get any charge into it and the battery was recycled. If your battery is under 5 years then it may still be under the Ryobi limited warranty.
Give it a jump start with another battery. Negative to negative and then working batterie's positive to dead batterie's positive in this orders and hold it for few seconds and it should get enough charge for the regular charger to read onces more

What size is torx?
Thanks so much this worked so quickly! Now I know if I ever see any defective ones for sale I can probably fix them!
Thanks for the info, it's also called exciting the rectifier and capacitor system 👍❤
It's not a flux capacitor is it!
this really helped me out thanks bro
Glad I could help
You should do a lawn care setup video just to show us what you use in total
As I get my equipment ready for the spring start up, I might very well do that. I will keep you posted.
Excellent video and a great help! Thank you so very much.

I didn’t check the voltage on this one.

@@martyjones5841 I haven’t experienced that issue on the newer designed batteries only on a battery manufactured pre 2020.
I assume you were not able to resolve it?

good job

Does this work for drills also

Can you take and post a photo of the board?
Jeff, do you know if a Hart 40v battery can be reset?
I don’t know, I have never opened one of those up.
Awsome 👍😃
What size is the Torx bit for those screws?
It's a T10 security torx, sometimes labeled as a TS10 (hole in the middle).
IF you had a drill you could use to unscrew the screws.
My battery does not have a reset but if i hold the button to see charge it blonks different. Please help
Is it an authentic ryobi battery? Can you take a photo of the board?
Hi Jeff, Do you need to short all those pin location or just the ones that say reset?
I connect the reset to each of the additional holes, one by one.
What about if that doesn't work?
@@lifeisgood1624didn’t work for me: i still have the same 2 lights on 1 and 3 from left to right😤

I have had that before on a battery that did not take a charge. I followed the same process and the video took the charge.

What is the jumper made of?
Simply an electrogalvanized steel paper clip with a tiny piece of grey electrical tape over the bend.

The jumper is just two pins?
It is simply a paper clip.
The paperclip has, tape or something on it, can you tell us what it is?
@@kyarazamora850The tape is to hold it so you won't get shocked I think.

You can run a lawn care business off of electric cordless tools I don’t know about that
