      Yeah, I have a few thousand square feet and had several small patches of poa. An acre definitely requires a different approach. A few applications of mesotrione during the growing season followed by a fall preemergent and one before the growing starts in the spring. Repeat annually as required.

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 2 дня назад

      First, make sure to use it when the leaves are dry (the same as if you are raking). The pieces end up being a variety of different sizes. Some can be as small as dust while others can be as big as 1.5 inches. The average size is about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm).

    I think you are wrong about the amount of N per year per 1,000k/sq feet. Most sources say: 1 and 4 lbs of Nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft of lawn space each year/growing season.

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 7 дней назад

      I didn't talk about a seasonal maximum at all, talked about an application over 1000 sq feet. A single application of a liquid urea should not exceed .2 pounds of N per 1000 sq feet. The maximum amount of N that I apply to my lawn, or my clients, per season, does not exceed 4lbs.

    Hello Jeff, First of all I wanted to say thank you for providing such an informative video on fixing a lawn. I enjoyed watching and I learned a lot. Plus, you picked up a new subscriber! Being that I’m planning on doing a moderate lawn renovation this fall, I wanted to lay out my plan for you, and hopefully receive some feedback as to how to improve it in order to achieve a successful result. I have 22,000 sq ft of lawn and I’m seeking the most economical route to renovate it. It has been neglected for over a decade and has been overrun primarily by Wild Violet and Ground Ivy. This past May I began applying products such as Scott’s Triple Action, Scott’s Soil Improver and High Yield Triclopyr Ester (to eradicate the the WV and GI. Following is my plan: STEP 1: Kill off as many weeds as possible. In my case I had large, lingering patches of Wild Violet and Ground Ivy, which I treated multiple times with High Yield Triclopyr Ester. I wasn’t able to completely eradicate them, but I came close. STEP 2: I’m planning on renting a power thatcher with a bag, and clear out as much thatch build up as possible. STEP 3: Being that my lawn is very bumpy, I plan on ordering 10 yards of quality, screened topsoil and apply it with a wheelbarrow and a lawn leveling rake. STEP 4: One week following this procedure - which is my target over seeding date - I plan on renting a power aerator and a slice seeder. I will aerate the entire lawn first, and then I will follow that with the slice seeding in a cross hatch fashion. STEP 5: I plan on broadcast spreading a starter fertilizer. Being that I will be planting Johnathan Green Black Beauty Ultra, I was going to apply their starter fertilizer over the top. It’s at this stage where my questions arise. Must I roll the newly planted seeds if they are power seeded into the ground? Do I need to cover the seed work and starter fertilizer to keep birds off the lawn? * I rented a Bluebird thatcher this past weekend and despite having the blades at the highest setting, it really tore up my lawn by cutting deep grooves and scalping high spots down to bare ground. Being that this machine did so much damage, I’m considering not doing the slice seeding. Please offer any advice as to how I can repair my 22,000 sq ft lawn the most economical way possible. Thank you and I look forward to your reply. Matt

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 16 дней назад

      It sounds like you have a very good plan. If you are using a slit seeder then those seeds will be buried and there is no need to roll them for better seed to soil contact. When I use a slit seeder I will still apply a thin layer of peat moss as it will help to retain moisture. I also apply a starter fertilizer.

    My battery is an OP40602VNM, 40v 6ah, bought in 2001 (past warranty, alas). I had charged it to full two months ago, but now it is dead (stored in garage). The voltage between T1 and T2 is 0.0v, between T3 and T4 it is about 0.15v. On the charger, I get the alternating green/red flashing lights. Clicking the battery test button gets no result - no LEDs alight. I have tried shorting between RST and GND with no result; also between RST and 3.3v with no result. Putting it back on the charger just results in the flashing red/green again. Any ideas?

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 15 дней назад

      With the results that you have had using a voltage meter there is a high likelihood that that battery will not come back to life. The flashing green and red on the charger says that something is defective, either the battery or the charger. I am sure that you tried another battery in the charger and tried the battery in a different charger. If you haven't then give both of those a shot to see which one is the issue.

    • @rhurkens
      @rhurkens 15 дней назад

      @@JeffSeetonLawnCare Yes, I have tried another battery in the charger and that one charges correctly. Do you have any opinion on which secondary market battery is the best to get, as I do not want to spend $280 on another Ryobi battery? Thanks.

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 15 дней назад

      @@rhurkens I haven't used any aftermarket batteries with any of my tools so I don't have any personal experience. I have had people tell me that they bought generic 40v batteries from amazon. They reported that the 6a generic gets about the same run time as a Ryobi 4a. That is all I got, nothing on the life of those batteries or even safety. I would say that you might want to keep an eye open as the fall takes hold; Ryobi usually has fall deals where they through in batteries with the purchase of a tool. I do know many people that jumped at those deals and then sold the tool only at like a $50 to a $100 dollar loss, keeping the batteries and the charger.

    Are you using tap water or distilled water because I find distilled water to be inaccurate. We do not water lawns or garden beds with distilled water. So, if you used distilled water, it would be great to see another video using tap water and see the results. Maybe even do a vs. 3 test one with distilled, one with tap and the last one sent to lab and see which one is closer to lab testing. What are your thoughts on that, and would anyone else like to see the stunning results?

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 23 дня назад

      Manufacturers of this, and other similar products, recommend using distilled water because of the varied water conditions from place to place. Of course distilled water can vary as well. I have use them both and I can tell you that I get essentially the same results using city and distilled water where I am. I will put together a video comparing home tests and lab results.

    I have a section in my yard where I want to put down landscape rock. I'm not going to plant anything, so I don't care if the soil loses its richness. It's Georgia clay and it's on a slight slope, so I'm not worried about flooding. What landscape barrier, thickness and brand should I use? Thanks.

    • @JeffSeetonLawnCare
      @JeffSeetonLawnCare 24 дня назад

      I would use a polypropylene woven barrier that is 6oz or higher. Understand though, that even with the best barrier you can put down, dust/debris and weeds seeds can settle into the gaps above the barrier and start growing on top of it. Once they take hold it can be very hard to remove them. When using river rock, or other rocks, always plan to be having to use a weed killer after first or second season. I am regularly being asked to quote jobs that involve removing river rock and installing mulch for new clients.

If there is going to be heavy rain predicted in the next 14 days I will hold off because I don’t want my seeds to wash away. Weed b gon can be applied the day before dropping your seeds and the dead weeds do not need to be pulled after.

    I have a water softener and use the salt saturated waste water from that and mix 50/50 with 20% cleaning vinegar & a squirt of dish soap which works the best.

    I want to use a Ortho Sprayer with a dial, how many ounces per gal should i set it on?

      My hose end sprayer only goes up to 8oz. I would use that and lay it on heavy. Def has a npk of 15-0-0. So 10 ounces per 1 gallon per 1000 sq ft. Is .1lbs of nitrogen. Goodluck

    Where did you get the sprayer for the unit you used?
