  • DIY tutorial on how we were able to fix our 3 defective RYOBI 40V batteries that would not charge…probably because they were completely dead from sitting too long. There were NUMEROUS ways we attempted to fix the batteries on our own but this was the only one that worked! This is the first DIY video attempt EVER so don’t judge too hard :)) we are hoping this will help other people that are in the same situation that we were in and possibly save you some time & money!
    Feel free to reach out with any questions & please like our video or consider subscribing if our video helped you in any way! More videos on the way, thanks for watching :) PS: If all else fails with your battery call Ryobi at(877) 655-5250 and hopefully they’ll replace your battery for you through warranty!

    When I jumped it. You had to press the button in the back as well as reset it, at the same time. It does work, amazing. Also when resetting it with the paper clip, don't touch anything else, it will short out a circuit.

    Kudos for figuring this complex issue out. WTH couldn't Ryobi have mounted the reset button externally to save all this work and frustration? My guess is that they want to sell more of those expensive batteries. Ryobi electric tools have always let me down which is why I only now use Bosch, Greenworks and Milwauke brand tools.

    • @jculpmm7
      @jculpmm7 Год назад +1

      Milwaukee and Ryobi are basically the same now. They are owned by the same company and being made the same way. Hart tools are also owned by the same company. That’s why there are more brushless tools coming out.

      Sorry to hear! Yes, battery operated has its own set of cons too. I definitely like that the gas powered trimmers are stronger, but I really love that I can interchange the ryobi batteries on all our tools…it’s so convenient and less maintenance at times. Hey thanks for this! My battery was a little bit different inside. There were no holes to jump a wire to. So, just did some cleaning connections and solder points. I pressed the exposed button, and my 4 green lights lit up. I placed on my charger and no green/red flashing but a charging green light. Woot woot! I went out and attached to my blower tool and viola’ it works. I had already received my free

    Q: did the fixed battery work in tool and for how long. I suspect that there is at least one cell that may not provide as much energy as the others and the battery will drain much sooner than a newer battery that never failed charging.

      Thanks for your question! It’s been 5 months since we reset the three battery’s we had that’s shown there in the video, they are all still working great and we haven’t had any issues with charging or using them with our Ryobi tools! Almost worked. Same battery OP40401, battery did reset but as soon as it went on the charger red/green/red/green. Thoughts?

    • @CarelynAdventures
      @CarelynAdventures  2 года назад

      Hi Mark! Pardon the delayed response. Did you see the green led lights flash when you jumped the reset and pushed the small button on the back there? I would say to try it again if you haven’t already and make sure those lights flash as it’s being jumped and right when that button is being pushed. Also, we thoroughly cleaned all the connecting points as well with rubbing alcohol… where the battery charging ports are and all the little connection pieces. We also cleaned the actual charger too. After all of that and putting it back together if it is still flashing the error lights I would probably just call the Ryobi warranty number that I have listed in my video description …their customer service is actually pretty awesome and they will usually just send you a new battery right away even if it’s a bit over the warranty date! They want you to have your battery, charger and usually the Ryobi tool that you use it for on hand during the phone call. We made this video because we wanted instant gratification and really wanted to mow our lawn the same day but didn’t want to fork out the extra $600 in new batteries from Home Depot to make that happen hahah but if you are willing to wait for Ryobi to send you a new battery (within two weeks) then that might be the best option for you plus save you time and headache instead of trying to fix it yourself :) good luck!!

  • @battery_solar_ev
    @battery_solar_ev 3 месяца назад +1

    yeah i hit the reset on mine and it did not work. The fault can be the board has failed and drained one cell below the safe limit to charge like 1.9 volts max limit to charge these cells with the board is 2.5 volts anything under that the battery will not charge thats when it take more drastic measures that is not for the average user to handle. Even after bringing the low voltage cell back up to the safe limit the problem will most likely happen again do to the malfunction of the board and after so many times of being pulled down below 2.8 volts per cell they loose capacity much more rapid. Its something like a lead acid battery being drained belore 10 volts to many time they dont last to long if that is done.

      @@CarelynAdventures can't figure out how to reset it, only one hole labeled "reset" so I'm not sure which other spot to jumper it to. I actually think mine is an earlier model, possibly first gen. Can't remember how long I've had it, at least 6 years, probably longer. It started acting up after we had a hard freeze (below 0°f, it was in my shed). I bought another spare and will keep this one in the chance I figure out how to reset it. As stated before, I have 2 chargers and it does the same thing in both. Other batteries work fine.

    This is great! I am not there yet as one corner of the battery does not have an exposed screw to remove, but is just a flat black piece. Has anyone else had this???

    • @pbnman
      @pbnman 7 месяцев назад +1

      It is a black plastic plug that covers the screw. Underneath the plastic plug is the same screw as the others. Just carefully pry it off and you will be good to go.

      @CarelynAdventures  Год назад +1

      Sorry to hear that Joe…if it’s the same battery it should have it. It’s not an actual button or anything and It might not be labeled. There are two small pinholes with metal around them that you would insert the paper clip or metal loop and then push the battery led button like we show in the video. Hopefully you’ll be able to find it! if not, I would probably call the Ryobi number we have in the description and see if they’ll send you a new one for free :) best of luck to you!

    Heads up, there's a risk that opening battery will void your warranty and no replacement will be issued. Also the main reason they do this is because they drop under 30 volts. Connecting to negative screw and positive charge prong will allow you to charge above 30v and reset. Neg screw bottom left and pos prong that the charger usally connects to. You'll have to find a power supply that charges that high. If you don't see the 2 reset holes, look for the 4 small ones.

    It'd your battery fall within the warranty period after the check with RYOBI they will replace it within two weeks... Just have the battery, charger and tool available near an outlet.
    Do this prior to opening your battery and instantly voiding the warranty. Especially before sitting on them and mulling it over for weeks, I got my replacement in two weeks no fuss no muss, no risk of fire or explosion.

    • @CarelynAdventures
      @CarelynAdventures  2 года назад +2

      Thank for your input Robert :) We have called for a warranty replacement before and thankfully Ryobi didn’t seem to concerned with a potential voided warranty or if it was past warranty etc…they seemed more concerned about their excellent customer service experience which was awesome! They didn’t even need the old battery back! I included Ryobis warranty number in the video description for people that choose to go that route. In this particular case we had these three batteries that were dead/not charging properly and we wanted to mow the grass that day but didn’t want to spend $600 on new batteries or wait for a warranty coverage to send a new one…so thankfully this method worked out for us and our particular situation :) hopefully it will help a few other people in a similar scenario. Have a great day!

    My 10mm Torx screw doesn't have the little "tit" in the middle, but I've found that with a little effort you may be able to break these off enabling you to use a standard 10mm Torx. These are called tamper resistant Torx. Harbor Freight sells the whole set quite cheaply. Sadly, my board didn't have a reset place. Some of the later ones have an actual button. Thanks for the video!

      will in fact send you a new battery for free within a few weeks, even if it is just outside of the warranty date. We shared the Ryobi warranty number in the video description for those who want to go that route :) but if you’re impatient, need to use your tools asap and don’t want to spend a couple hundred dollars this is worth a try! :)) have a great week!

      I tried with 2 dead ones, they did not and would not because they have to confirm what you bought them with. Because I have many of them and they said I had to verify how I bought them? When you own that many it's completely impossible. I mean I only own maybe four or five. But my experience with Ryobi was absolutely horrible even though I still buy those batteries. They absolutely refused to replace any of the ones I've had issues with.
