For 3$ a month, you get an extra weekly "What's UP" update video. Just for my Patrons. The Support I resave on patreon is all used on stuff to make interesting videos on RUclips.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.
Thank you so much!!! It makes me so mad that these batteries quit working. They should have a reset button on the battery, but then everyone wouldn't run out and buy a new battery. Thank goodness for RUclips and My PlayHouse!
You are welcome!! I do enjoy getting all these nice comments from people that has now saved there battery,, and a lot of money. Would be nice if the battery had an auto reset function,, if charging failed.
Thank you. Replaced my battery and thought it was dead, but kept it just in case.
Now I have two batteries 🎉.
Thanks again.
Awesome to hear that!! I do enjoy all the comment from people like yourself, that this helped. Thank You!
You ARE the MAN!!! This is exactly what I was looking for! Exactly the same issue I am having. Very expensive battery pack for sure. Awesome. You are the type of person that really makes RUclips amazing. Bravo!!
You are welcome! I do really enjoy getting all this awesome feetback, that this helped other people fix there battery again.
Have the same problem described but was unable to get the rest to work.
This is a great fix. I wish this was available a year ago, I trashed 2 batteries I could have saved. Great Job. Thank You
Sorry to be late :-/
OMG THANKYOU!!!!!! I was so happy that I had a small socket to remove the screws. Touched the reset connectors and VIOLA!!!!! Its charging !!!!! You saved me mucho$$$$$$$$$$ a HUGE thank you from Florida USA!!!! great video!
Thank You!! I am just happy to help, and getting these "reports" back makes my day(s) :-)
Thank you so much. This saved me $170. Worked the first time. For anyone else trying I had to hold it for about 2-3 seconds before the green lights flashed. It wasn't instant FWIW. Thanks again 🤙
Glad it helped :-) hope I got a new subscriber,, I deserved it..
Thanx for the tip. This was something new to me that battery has RESET inside. The computer of battery can get haywire after many charging cycles and then it tells to the charger that the user must buy a new expensive battery. 😂
:-) if it does it again,, I might just put in a switch..
At time 7:12 is gold "It shouldn't take long... and if it explodes it makes good video".. proceeds to accidently short something :) At least Ryobi labelled their BMS PCB very nicely. Thanks for the video, I picked up a couple 36V packs left for garbage and so far 1 of 2 packs appears to be coming up in volts. It was 100% dead 0V - using a RC charger (max voltage capable is 26V, so have to be done in batches) and manually brought all 10 cell banks individually to 3.0V, fast charge to 3.3V [starting at most positive end cell bank first] and then running a Li5S (21V) charge program at 0.5A between B+ and test point CL6- for first round, second round will be CL6- and GND (not B-... most BMS in fault condition cut off the B- consumer terminal from GND). The absolute worst, is when a charger unit itself fails (EGO+ '56V' - 58.5V full charge) and the OEM wants nearly as much $$$ for the charger as the original package cost... hello Amazon 60V DC lab power supply on prime days, 4mm banana plugs, 4mm posts, multi-meter and said broken charger being gutted with aforementioned 4mm posts being installed and internally attached to the B+ and B-; end result works GREAT (a trusted or calibrated multimeter is a must, the amazon supplies' displays are often out a volt or two).
Hi @dkannegi
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
@@MyPlayHouse Update, I did successfully revive the two packs (one was -6.7V acros all cells discharged... surprisingly got the cells up and staying at 4.1V over the week - the BMS I was able to reawaken doing a pin short but it is very flakey). I am not fond of Ryobi's BMS as it seems over-engineeered to the point it brings on unnecessary failures. The charging regimens I did on these (such a 2-3C blast charge, watching amps to decrease but pulling off when that decrease slows BEFORE the cell heats, and resting the cell to average the charge over 10 mins to be within 1.2C) are not for the faint of heart as one mess up will cause a cell runaway within seconds.
I never comment on videos but this actually worked so I have to give credit where it’s due. Thank you.
I always reply,, Thank You for letting me know,,, I do enjoy helping!
THANK YOU SO MUCH MORTEN !!!
You literally saved me about $400 by posting this video. I followed your instructions and it worked! If I hadn’t learned about this, I would’ve probably bought a new weedwacker and then would’ve had to buy a new battery on top of it, since the weedwacker still wouldn’t work because the battery wouldn’t charge. I also have a a ryobi “expand it” pole saw, so I would needed new battery for that as well. So thank you!
You're welcome! and thank you for your comment.. I do enjoy knowing that I helped to save people money!!
You're going to be the next ElectroBOOM! ⚡
I sure hope not! I was really lucky this didn’t kill the battery 😬
FYI technically both the 36V and 40V batteries are exactly the same other than the labelling. 40V is a marketing thing. It’s often done by many cordless tool manufacturers to just beat the opposition in voltage or to round the voltage up to an even number. In this case it’s a measurement of the battery when it is fully charged and measured at its peak voltage for a split second when the tool it’s powering is first turned on before dropping to around 36V. The 36V packs do exactly the same. So you are safe to use either pack in your tools.
I know,, here in the EU,, they does not get away with as much BS...
TRIVIA To boost ebike add Xtra row of cell over volt to 46. Transistor is 63. Volts =. SPEED
Technically overvolting an ebike could attain speeds of 30 ez minimal $$$ or 40 NO MONEY
You learn Voltage means nothing until it blows. THATS YOUR LIMIT 😅
I did reset, didn’t help, 1 and 3 indicators still light
perfect saved me from having to buy another battery. also rather then using the twist tie i used the multimeter leads one on each then crossed them to touch. once it blinked removed and done. battery no longer blinks all green and is now charging.
Awesome! good job,, happy to be able to help!
Wow so incredible. This is the first video of yours I’ve come across, and it’s brilliant! Helped us immensely. Keep it up. I agree with a lot of other commenters that people like you really make the internet a better place :) Thanks again from Australia! And I also didn’t get a spark, but did have to hold down on the reset for a few seconds before it registered / blinked with the green flashes.
Awesome! Thank you!
I do enjoy to get this feetback, and hear that this helped people like yourself :-)
I just learned something new from you! I wish I had found your videos sooner!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video. That is true community service. 👍🏾
You bet,, I do enjoy all the positive feedback I get when people like your self manage to fix your battery.
Very interesting video. I had a Greekwork's 40 volt battery that went dead and refused to charge. Instead of looking for a reset option, I removed the actual cells from the board. Not a good idea. Now I have great battery cells, but a really damaged controller board that needs replaced. I will certainly look for a reset for any future battery problems... Thanks!
Hi @garymucher4082
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
I build ebike battery packs I bypassed everything ran 2 leads to HI cells 36 to ground. Bms still balanced. Ryobi electronics BLOW 😆
I just use my bike charger ez
YEARS AGO WE LEARNED. CHEAP ELECTRONICS BURN DOWN HOMES NOT 18650 LITHIUM ION. HUMAN ERROR IN MANUFACTURING BOARDS
I also use A DIGITAL THROTTLE so NO safety features. NAKED FULL POWER. PEACE
Thanks a LOT buddy! It helped me. Anyway, from the very beginning, it DID not help me, but after little research on RUclips i figured out that you must press the Check button same time. Be aware, that you probably will need to do it ~ x10 times. Because even when it will start blinking 1 green led only, after you will plug to charger it may go back to malfunction mode. Good luck to everyone who will found this solution. If it works with the others and me (without any electrician knowledge), you also are capable do it))
I did not need to do that,,, just reset it for like 5 sec. and it give that little blink.
Mine did the same thing. But it won’t work. What am I missing? I took it apart. Put two wires to the reset insert and hit the check button. The led lights go from 4 blinking to one blinking light. Then once I plug it into thr charger it charges for maybe two seconds then goes back to malfunction (red/green flashing). I tried the whole thing maybe 4 to 5 times and it’s the same result. Any help or advice?
Why the hell don’t they have a reset button on the outside???
I do not know,,, or just a little reset hole..
So you buy another battery?
@@rf14dmbexactly
pure evil
why indeed!
Worked just like you said , I now have a spare battery thank you
Thank You for letting me know!! Makes me happy to have helped!
Thank you!! Simple instructions and it worked perfectly!! The local. Dealer wanted $70.us to fix.
Took me 5 minutes in total from start to finish.
Cheers 🎉
Thank you for letting me know,, it makes my day :-)
thanks for that...I had a "non-original" Ryobi battery and when taken apart, strangely looked much the same...I didn't get a flash, did the "reboot" step, put it back together on the charger and wow, it's now charging...thanks heaps! Regs Oscar from Australia.
Glad I could help! Nice to know that it also works on "non-original" Ryobi battery.. Thanx!
How is the non original battery working for you? How long you had it? I need to get another battery. Saving bucks if I use non original 😊
I've been lucky, equivalent ones last at least 80% of the time when compared to original. Just a rough estimate - I have 4 areas that I mow my lawns...and generally it takes 2 x batteries...whether is original or equivalent. Based on how lazy I have been, letting it grow too much. I would keep away from any "used" battery. It cost about Au$90 for the equivalent Ryobi original for Au$260...so, even if it's 50% as good, I am ahead. I recently ordered an 8Ah 36V at $95..that will be interesting to see if it does all 4 areas of my lawn(grass)...
Is the non-original an OEM battery or a knock off (copy not designed to specs)? Or where can I find one?
@@FreedomBound23 I have no idea if these are copies, knock offs, OEM...however, when I took my Non- Nokia battery apart, as per the images in the video, each battery looked very similar. and the recovery process was the same. I'm not sure if there are a few manufacturers using the same or similar circuit board layout etc.
Thanks so much, it worked for us too! So happy as it would have cost us another $250! Now we can get all our gardening done tomorrow, phew.
Thank you for letting me know.. $250 is a lot of money that can now be used on something better :-)
Thank You for posting this ! I just saw your video and fixed my battery in 15 minutes!!
Awesome to hear!! I am happy to help!!
AWESOME. Worked like a charm. Worst part was those screws but had it fixed within 10 minutes once I had the right T10 with the hole in the middle. Thank youuu.
Thank You! good job! Yes the right torx,, does the trick! :-)
That was easy. I'm heading to the basement right now to reset my Ryobi battery right now. Thanks for the video. Hopefully you just saved me $200 us.
I hope so too,, I do really enjoy helping out 🤗
@@MyPlayHouse Sadly Ryobi has gotten smart. I bought my mower in 21, and just my luck they have removed the reset feature from the batteries. So I just ordered one off Amazon for 60 bucks. Both battleries are made in China, and probably by the same company. But, I'm sure this video helped a lot of folks. Have a good day sir.
Insane, they do not have an automated reset. Just another example of rip-off. So sad for all of us, but thank you for revealing the fix!
Would have been cool if you could like hold in the test button for some amount of sec. and it would reset instead :-/
About to try this trick. I did want to see the blinked red and green LED on a better, longer shot as I’m not sure if mine is bad. It blinks red then green and so forth. I’m guessing that’s what yours did in the video. I’m going blind 😉
Very funny humour made the video fun
Thank You!! I did a new version of the same issue with the same battery,, as it did this again,, maybe this will also help you : ruclips.net/video/eApFurP54Ls/видео.html
@@MyPlayHouse Thanks! I went ahead last night and did the procedure. Worked like a charm. Only difference is I had to push the status button while shorting the reset contacts. It’s now back to life. Seems to have charged even better. Will know how well it works in the next day or two. Now I want to go rummaging for batteries that were tossed out. I’m guessing not many people know this trick. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for posting. Your instructions worked perfectly for my Ryobi 40v in the United States.
Thank You so much for replying :-) I love to hear that I helped to save another battery!!
If you get a solid orange test light stick the battery in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes and take it out and try to put it back on the charger. It’s apparently very sensitive to temperature as soon as it runs down.
Okay,, so it might have become to hot,, and need to cool down a bit before it will charge,, nice to know.
Worked like a charm - just saved me $300! - thank you!
Excellent! Makes me happy to have help other people save money,, so thank You for letting me know!!
😅😅😅😅..what a gas !
"Boom" don't touch things you shouldn't touch.
Correction, you have one wire two ends...
That helps me mine was blinky blinky same way . Only I got mine wet had to tear it down like you and dry it out..I didn't know about the reset shock tabs, so I'll go do that ...
Thanks for the video
Thank You for letting me know,, I do like to help,, and it feels great to know that I helped :-)
Fantastic, just saved me from buying another! Thanks!
Great to hear! love this sort of feedback!!
Im going to give this a shot I have a 40v battery that is doing the same. Thanks
Best of luck to You,, I have made a new video, on the same problem : ruclips.net/video/eApFurP54Ls/видео.htmlsi=L_YcC9-xvBIU5yEA
Might help you to see that as well..
I just discovered your channel - excellent video and you've got a new subscriber!
I didn't catch the name of the screwdriver tool that you used to open the battery though...
Thanks for the sub! the tool is a "security torx"
Well, this saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you!!!
You are so Welcome :-)
You are the best my friend you just saved 2 batteries for me.
Thank you very much🎉
Glad I could help! Really glad I could help 🤗 I love comments like this,, it totally makes my day,, Thank you!
It can be used as a door stopper when it is bricked😀 It seems the lighting of your kitchen is very high color temperature daylight bulb (6500K ?), sometimes automatic color temp malfunctioned and image becomes blue-ish
Automatic with balances might be slow. :-/
I am going to try it now. I hope it works. It will save me $125.00. I do have the security torx bit.
Best of luck... hope you manage it.
Thank you. It didn't long to fix the battery and it was so easy.
I am happy to hear that you got it done,, yes it's not difficult. and lots of the times it does fix them.
Save the day....didn't even use special tools for the screws, just place bit barely in the surface and carefully unscrew...Thanks it works...😅
Hi @rondamon8004
AWesome Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
Thank you! I have the 40volt on my Ryobi chain saw and have been very happy with it. It sat in my shop for a couple of months and the battery showed two lights when I was ready to use it again. Then it said defective "red/green" blink. After that on the charger then all four lights blinked. Trying what you showed now. No luck it flashed the lights and I then put it on the charger with two lights showing. It still shows defective. I tried again and held the reset for a few seconds and all four leds blinked quickly for a few times. The the two leds showed charge level. Put it back on the charger and still shows defective. Guess I'll try resetting it and putting it on the saw with the two lights and see what it does. Kind of frustrated right now. We had bad weather and I have lots of tree limbs to clear. I'll let you know what happens latter.
I also have the 40v chainsaw,,, it has the feature that me and the battery are out of energy at the same time,, and both needs recharging..
This fix,, has helped a lot of people,, you might need to messura all the cells to make sure all is good... first.
Thank you for the hack! It worked!
You're welcome! and I am so happy you are letting me know :-) Makes me happy to know I helped someone else fix thire battery.

Smashing tip morten :-D
Im glad that you could reset your battery, shame they didnt put a small button on the case instead.
I have a version of that tool you bought, but mine is just a standard torque, no hole in the tool.
Still handy though :-D
It it starts to mess up to much,, I might put a switch in. :-)
Thank you for the "YT" video and detailed instructions. It work perfectly! Much appreciation 👍👊
Glad it helped!! :-)

Yes I have had to reset it again this year.
@@MyPlayHouse I tried on one of mine. It works for 3 seconds then trips again.

Glad it helped! 🤗
I will try it out. Harbor Freight in the US has tamper proof torx allens in a set for $7. Even if is doesn't work these screws are becoming common in electronics.

Awesome, i tried this and it worked perfectly...
Glad to hear that!
Totally worked for me. THANK YOU!!

extremly entertaining.
Humm I was going for helpful,, but I guess "entertaining" will have to do :-)
These companies that make these shitty, exspensive batteries, should be held accountable for this clear scam!
They do replaces the batteries...
I’m really scared to try this 😳But replacing us too expensive. Thank you!!

Great video. I have the same problem. Only used it about ten times then I hired a gardener, but he moved and when I pulled my weed walker out the box again it gave me the error. I may be still under warranty but if not I guess I’ll have to try this. How is the battery lasting so far since the video?
People before you has reported this problem to Ryobi, gotten a new battery,, and then fixed it :-)
I just did it and it charged for two minutes then back to defective… I don’t know.
Thank you so much. I followed your instruction and I now how a working battery again.
You're welcome! and I am so happy to hear that!!

Awesome,, thank you!
This video fix went way longer than needed, it didn’t realise it is a comedy video until half way through …..“all the rest of this stuff just followed me home”. 😂😂😂
Well It is not really a comedy,, this fix has helped a lot of people with there similar batteries. But as I had never done this before, and I could not praktis as the battery would then be fixed. I had to film this my first try. I do try to make the videos entertaining and I am happy if I manage to leave you with a smile after watching.

Thank you for this! Worked on a US 40v perfectly.
Thank You,, hope I earned a new subscriber :-)
Ryobi could save themselves lots of warranty claims on these batteries by making that little test switch a double pole switch, with the second set of contacts bridging the reset points. That way, every time a voltage check gets performed, it will reset and voila the battery works once again, back to life from the dead.
Yes,, they should do that,, or just automatically reset the battery,, when not in use for 5 min.
@@MyPlayHouse - that would probably drain the battery too much.
Cool I’m going to try that thanks

Awesome,, Thank You, for letting me know!!
Great video. 2 questions. Do you know what made it spark/shock u? Also, my battery doesn’t do anything when pressing the indicator button…yours at least lights up all four and blinks…do u think this will still work for mine? TY
I clearly shorted something for a split sec.
If nothing comes up, you want to measure out the cells, with a multimeter,, make sure there is the same voltages on all the cells,, with in 0.1-0.2 volt of each other. if a cell is low, it needs to be brought up to what the others are at. If the whole battery is low you need to bring it up a bit. The electronic board will cut off if the cells are all way to low,, so you will need to charge directly on the cells. They do not need much,, just enough to reactivate the electronic board again,, and then let the normal charger do the work.
Detailed explanation on this problem but I was unable to get the rest to produce a green light or rest the system to allow for charging. Condition of the battery remains with an error message
And this is a brand new battery but can’t return it because I don’t live in USA
Hope you tried it a few times,, as you saw I did it wrong the first time :-/
