So many people whinge and whine about wanting watches in smaller sizes, and say they would buy a 41 if it were made in a 39, or they would buy a 39 if it were made in a 36, but I wager a tiny proportion of these guys actually would/do!

I don’t get the long lugs on a small watch. Seems to defeat the object of it being smaller.
And it has male end links.
Seems that if the case was a different design it could have a bigger dial diameter and still fit a small wrist better.

Longines is such a good value, i love the simple yet sophisticated look of their faces/cases. One of the best watch companies to dress up and go to dinner or dress down and go golfing with their watches. With a price point of under 3k the quality you get is just phenomenal for the money spent.

I knew from the second this watch was unveiled during Teddy's past video with the representative of Longines that I needed this watch. I was finally able to go my local AD and purchase the watch in the champagne dial and it is beyond stunning. Perfect size for my wrist, the champagne dial absolutely pops depending on what light you're in and has a very sporty yet classy feel to it. Longines seems to “fly” under the radar of most buyers. Until I really got the horological bug I’d always thought of them as a maker of women’s fashion watches, probably because of a few advertisements I’d seen back in the 70s. Anyone else have that impression? Now I know. Thanks again Teddy. Cleveland rocks!

The spirit is "nice" and it "ticks all the boxes" but I just can't get an emotional attachment to it at all. I've tired - I seriously have - but it just doesn't push my buttons and I really cannot say why, as I love aviator-inspired watches and I love the Big Eye. Maybe it's the applied arabics - too dressy for a pilots? Maybe it's the speedmaster-style bracelet and not an IWC 7 link style. Maybe the 5 stars. Maybe all of the above. Good luck to you if you enjoy it though.

As always, a great review by Teddy. I bought this watch a few days ago to celebrate my retirement at the end of this year. I was worried that the 37mm case might be too small for my 6.75-inch wrist, but as noted by Teddy this watch wears more like a 38mm case because of the longer lug-to-lug and male end links. It actually wears great on my wrist, and as an owner of watches 39mm and greater, I am really enjoying the smaller case size and lighter weight. One point I disagree with Teddy on is the lume, which in my opinion is great. The hands and arabic numbers are well lumed and they shine bright through the night. I do agree with Teddy that Longines should have made this watch with an exhibition case back, and a screw down crown would have been nice. Overall, however, I really love this watch.

Great video teddy. CJ here, I love the longines I got from your site and has made me a super fan of the brand. It's become my regular weekend watch, Hamilton during the week. This is a beauty. Love the slender silhouette and clean look.

is there a no date version? this version of spirit pilot definitely works great as a dress watch but the date just breaks a beautiful dial. the larger versions are great at being every day or tool watch so date is appreciated. not on a 37, especially when they dont proportionally shrink down the size of the date numeral and window.

Go for early 2000s Aqua terra which you'll find for the price of Longines... but for me, the Longines will be the one I think

Size is great but it has those infamously long Longines lugs that make the proportions odd and wear larger than it should. Plus, I think those 5 stars at 6 o’clock really cheapen the look. I expect to see that from department store micro brands not historical Swiss luxury houses.
Edit: Great video as usual Teddy.

      I personally love the stars.
Longines' long lugs are not infamous, just a conscious design choice. Sure, for smaller wrists it makes it more difficult but then they also provide different sizes 🙂

Stars look fine in real life. You hardly notice them. Of course on a 40 inch screen, they look ridiculous. Try the watch on

Thanks Teddy for your excellent review. I have finally taken delivery after waiting 3 months for the champagne dial version, which is difficult to obtain in the UK. My only gripe is the bracelet needs a better micro- adjustment system such as Rolex's Glidelock.

A beautiful watch. I purchased the 40mm with a blue dial earlier this year and still smile every time I look at it. The watch does wear a bit longer than I am used on my 6.75” wrist, but it looks great and I can wear it all day without any comfort issues. Would like to try the 37mm to feel how it wears. Great vid as always Teddy! Keep up the good work. I have learned a lot from watching your vids!

I've got the black dial version. I 100% agree with everything you've said. The only thing I don't 100% love about it is the black versions loom in comparison to the blue and silver seems to be ever so slightly faux which is annoying. Im unsure if that's down to the black dial making it appear darker or whether it's actually been darkened to give more of a vintage look. A side by side comparison would be great if you could provide one

The lack of a screw down crown as opposed to in the 40 mm version for me is a dealbreaker. With a screw down crown, this would be a perfect alternative in the traditional Rolex explorer category.

Lovely watch! However I will still keep my "cheaper" Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium which is incredibly accurate (runs at about +1 second per day).

    • @patrickhartmann1540
      @patrickhartmann1540 2 года назад +3

I have both the Tissot Powermatic 80 and the 40mm Spirit. Both fit larger and more sporty on my 6.5” wrist, but the Tissot is more dress and the Spirit more pilot. Sprit is all round exceptional. The finish, fully articulated bracelet links, dial, crown action etc rival some of my watches twice the price. I do slightly wish I’d waited and was able to get the 37mm, but I tell myself it’s a pilot watch, not dress, so a bit bigger works.

I really like this watch. Always have but the 40mm was just too large, esp the lug to lug. This is the perfect size. Also, nobody likes odd number lug widths but I feel 19mm is the optimal size.

What I dislike is how busy the dial is. Their logo always comes to me as long and now with the five stars at the bottom it feels tad too much. Besides that, I really love the sheer quality and attention to detail in stuff like the diamonds at the hour markers.

    Is it the brand name?
A cheaper Seiko or Citizen does the same job and are probably more resilient for daily no worries use.

I have the 40mm titanium spirit with the bracelet and the black nylon straps. Switching back and forth really does make it the everything watch. So beautiful and subtly gorgeous. And most importantly- ORIGINAL. The new 37 with the date dial also looks next level. Longines needs to get rid of their copycat designs to elevate the brand. The fake cartier, iwc etc designs are really a turnoff to the entire lineup.

I really like this watch, but find it a little bit pointless to buy one due to the fact that I already have a Hamilton Khaki Filed, and -at least for me- they are very similar watches and the Hamilton falls more into my budget type. If my budget was bigger I would definitely get the Longines
