    This is frankly a quite a bit better deal than the Black Bay 36, though I suspect the steel models will get the same update as the S&G did last year, which will make it hugely competitive to the Spirit. I love the many micro adjusts (quick adjust would be great, but not everybody is Monta), the bracelet is more interestingly finished. The little details like the diamond on the second hand going over the diamonds on the dial are great. 72 hours of power reserve (while not using 3Hz like so many other Swatch group watches) AND COSC is just the chef's kiss. The 37mm size and champagne color make this a great unisex watch. I would like to see more champagne dial every day watches out there. I have tried the black 37 on bracelet on and while it's a touch smaller than I personally prefer, I could pull it off. The 40mm works well for me, but I don't like the date. That's okay though, because I really like the titanium model, which does not have a date. I have tried that one on strap, but have yet to find the bracelet variant in an AD yet. Longines is really doing some great stuff lately, and I think they deserve more respect. I hope they keep expanding this line. I think I will end up with a Spirit at some point, but I'm just not sure when.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Год назад +5

      I couldn't pull the trigger on the bb36. I tried many many times. I don't think its worth its price by a mile. The bracelet, I could never get a good fit. Removed one link, went out 1 micro or 2. nope. Added a link and went in a micro, no. Plus now they use the SW200 and they don't modify it like they used to with their shock absorbers and regulator. No AR coating is also a pet peeve on it. I think this year they will update the bb36 with inhouse, AR, and a T-link bracelet. Then I'm a buyer!

    • @RedwoodAggie
      @RedwoodAggie Год назад +1

      @@EscapementWatch Yeah, I completely get that. I personally found the BB36 too small for me (same with the new Explorer 36), but also found the BB41 to be bigger than I want! No Goldilocks moment. The lug-to-lug on the 41 was great, but the watch looked too wide, if that makes sense. They came out with a 39 AND 41 in the S&G and gave them more of an Oyster style case (lost 50m WR, but 100 is plenty). That and the new bracelet could get me to snap one up. My AD said the 39mm Tudors is the size where they sell the most models, which wasn't terribly surprising.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Год назад +4

      Yea the 39mm is a great option, makes sense it is popular. Yes the bezel on the bb is more flat and broad probably make it look wider. I found the explorer new gen to be a tad small. But 36mm OP and DJ's fit fine. I dunno why that is maybe the lug width playing visual tricks on my mind. 19vs 20mm. Or the large 3/6/9 shrinks the dial in comparison to the baton markers. or both factors.

    • @wuchinshan133
      @wuchinshan133 7 месяцев назад

      @@EscapementWatch Now that the BBs (non-dive) have been updated, I wonder if it is a worthy (but more expensive) alternative to the Spirit. Both movements seem about equally accurate (MT5400 vs L888.4). The external AR coating of the Longines is perhaps a deal-breaker for me. Much prefer underside only AR coating.

    I have the exact same watch and I couldn't be happier. The question shouldn't be whether 37 is the new 36, because this doesn't matter. The essential point here is that Longines might be the new Tudor as the latter are upping their prices and Longines on the other hand continue to offer the best value in the entrusted level luxury segment. The bracelet Pins aren't pin & collar by the way. They're split pins, albeit quite high quality ones which I'm a fan of now.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Год назад +4

      Actually Longines will up their prices on Feb 1st. 2023. They told me the average is going to be 7-10% across the board!!!! But if you look at their huge product range some watches will only increase by 3% some by 30%!!!!!!! so that is why on average they are saying roughly 10% increase across the board! And thanks for the info on the bracelet. I couldn't imagine it being split pins and I did not size it so I assumed it was pins and collars.

    We have same wrist size. I have the 40mm version and I will mention what I prefer and not because I tried on the 37mm version as well.
    I prefer the screw down crown and the sand blasted hands on the 40mm version. I do not like the butterfly clasp. I felt the 37mm a little small on my wrist assuming this is a pilot watch so a pilot watch must wear a little bit larger-assuming my logic is right on this.
    The readibility on the black dial is just phenomenal and it pops out amazingly in every possible angle.
    My last thought: Longines should do this watch in 38-39 mm and not in 40mm or 37mm. But this is my thought which is subjective.
    PS We need a 39mm Legend Diver!

    This came around six months too late for me to consider when I purchased my BB36. It is not needed. It has same water resist and screw down crown doesn't increase water resistance. It just stops crown from becoming opened from a hit under water. You can see the same issue on this watch with the diamonds by the 2 and 3 ( 1:41 ). My copy was much worse. Small details, but given how often you’ll look at the dial (it really is quite excellent) it wasn’t something I could overlook - especially when you’re spending over $2k on a watch. Honestly, Longines could just leave the lume diamonds off given how visible the numerals are.

    Why did you not add the weight? It’s a useful measurement. I prefer a watch under 100 g so it is easier to disappear on the wrist. I guess only watches that have metal bracelets and are under 100 g will have to be titanium.

    5 year service intervals? Yikes! I have to confess, I don't send my watches into my watchmaker until they start to run out of spec. In some of my lower end watches I've swapped out the movement all together. Its just cheaper than servicing. I sent out my 16610 submariner for service a couple years back and as soon as I seen the bill I had to make an appointment with a cardiologist. Lmao

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  8 месяцев назад +1

      lol. Yeah the recommended service is overly pessimistic. I think you'll be fine 7-10 year intervals. My black bay 36 is 5 years old and amplitude dropped low 200's but still perfect time keeping.

      @@EscapementWatch I’m assuming that will be announced this year cause they updated some of their watches last year. For me, design and dimensions come first. Movement is further down the list. If it’s accurate enough where I don’t notice it I don’t really care that much especially if I can’t see it. Power reserve is a bit low on those eta/ sellita movements though.
