    First impressions of the AX50 are pretty positive but lets see how it goes with time. I've been using ISP modem/routers for probably 6-7 years now because I couldn't justify the additional purchase. But it finally hit a point where it was bottlenecking everything and an upgrade was in order. It's one of those things that's hard to justify spending money on, but once you do it you're thankful that things are working to their best potential.
    My old ISP issued router "works" well as a modem but seems to fail me pretty regularly as a router, so I did some digging, got some input and the TPLink Archer AX50 fit my budget and needs.
    The main issue with the old router is that 80% of the time it's fine, but pretty consistently the signal dives through the floor and everything just slows to annoyingly slow speeds. This happens when I'm trying to watch shows or game online, it's super amateur. A reset seems to fix it, but that's just a hassle resetting the router in the middle of your activites.
    I've linked below the tech spec pages for both routers, take a look there for specific details. But at a glance it's just a much faster unit, bigger antennas, better wifi capabilities than the previous and it also supports Wifi 6 (ax). I considered buying a non Wifi 6 router but I don't want to be picking something else up in 12 months, so hopefully this bad boy will hold up for several years.
    I've been using the AX50 for 24 hours and the speed upgrade is extremely noticable. The NBN plan I'm on is 100megabit down/up and I can reach 90+ megabit all over this apartment. I even walked out the door to the end of the hallway and it was pulling about 88megabit down there.

    My ISP atm is Virgin Media, can I just set it up without putting the current router into modem mode. (like without using the WAN cable thing), thinking to buy this

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  3 года назад

      This one here is just a "router", so you gotta pass it the internet from the modem. There's a bunch of different internet connections all over the world so its hard for me to say what will work for Virgin Media. They might have some recommended brands for all in one modem/routers (or you could just look at forums for what other people are using for modem/routers on Virgin).
      If you're ok with running the two boxes then you don't need to check any of that, can just grab a router and do what I've done here. You'll have way more options with just routers, but I understand having it all in one is "simpler" on the bench.

I want the AX50 at my home now. Difference between the AX50 and AX3000 is Usb 3.0 vs 2.0. If the words AX50 are om the box, you got the faster USB model.

    The problem I have with the AX50 is that in order to use the parental features they force you to install an app. Unlike the Base model AX3000 I could change these settings from the routers interface. Another problem is that they force you to bind the Tether app witch for some reason cuts me speeds from 500mb down to 210mb. Only reason I picked this one us was for the USB3.0 I should have stuck with the base model.

    As a result of using it for a month.
    Internet speed is stable.
    However, because of the use of the Dual Intel chip, the heat is so intense.

    So I made a little space on the bottom of the router so that heat could be discharged smoothly, and I ordered a cooling fan in case I didn't know.
    There is a warranty, so I'm not worried about it, but I think the heat may cause the router to die.
    When designing a product, it seems that we don't really care about heat emission.

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  3 года назад +1

      Without diving into model numbers my general rule of thumb is that anything made in the last 2-3 years is going to be significantly better than what your internet company would provide. TP-Link and Belkin are both good brands so I'd just look at their modern routers that fit your budget, check reviews from amazon and order away.
      If you absolutely can't get WIFI 6 then I wouldnt worry, it's not even really utilised really yet, maybe a few fringe devices. The reality is that any good Wifi router will probably serve you well for many many years. I just wanted a Wifi 6 because I'm a nerd and am hoping the new playstation/iphones use it... but nothing in my house uses it yet.

    3) Does the performance decrese overtime if you stream of constatnly or download somethinng big (50-100GB games)?

      3) Its been on for 2-3 weeks and I've been gaming downloading. I've got 100megabit internet and I just did a speedtest and pulled 93 megabit over wifi

      My cousin watched this video and picked up the AX10 for about $100 cheaper. Doesn't have USB but still has 4 ports and wifi-6, seems to be going well for him. What speeds are you paying for?

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  4 года назад

      Yeah what speed is your internet plan? It's why I did the apple tv server test to just test local network speeds.
      Best thing to do is hook up a laptop to the router and do a speedtest directly. Then connect via wifi on a phone next to the router. Keep taking a couple steps back doing speed tests and see where the drop off is. You should be getting some significant increase in range with this router

    • @rbosque
      @rbosque 4 года назад

      Fenix Tech I’m paying for 20Mps. After I hooked up the ax3000 I’m getting 20Mps from the router. I did a speed test on my desk top before and after, I did a speed test with my iPad Pro before and after. The router didn’t boost my speed at all.

      @@rbosque If you paid for 20mbps, and that's what you're getting, then there's nothing wrong. You're not going to get his speeds unless you have an internet plan similar to his.

    Nice vid but let’s say that my internet speed is 60 mbs and that’s what the maximum speed is because that’s what I pay for per month if I buy this router will it still increase the speed to like 200 mbs even though I’m paying for 65mbs

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  4 года назад

      Nah the internet speed you pay for is the theoretical max. The main help here is network speed and wifi range. So it’s going to boost general WI-FI and if you’re streaming files over the network then you’ll see a speed upgrade as well. But general internet is capped at the ISP.

    whats apps are u using for network speed tester

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  3 года назад +1

      I had to get one using ios to test the PC --> Router --> Apple TV. The app was called "Network Speed Tester". Mobile app was free but the AppleTV one cost a few bucks. You probably don't need it, the network speeds are pretty great without really testing. Checkout the speeds I was getting in the video here.
      If you want to test PC --> Router --> PC then I'm sure theres a bunch of free speed testers, I just haven't needed to try one.

    • @fenixtech1342
      @fenixtech1342  3 года назад

      Where are you based? Something like that seems internet company dependant. A very basic test I would do is turn everything off for 30 seconds, turn it all back on. Ethernet a laptop or desktop to the main router where the internet comes in and test the ping. Thats the closest youre going to get to the source.
      If the ping is 150 off of that then you'd want to be talking to the ISP. Could be something on the general line to your place (external) or could be some bad wiring (internal). Hopefully the reset helps, and then next step hopefully the net company can do some resetting on their end... if they have to send a technician out that stuff is kinda annoying.
      Good luck

      Yeah from everything I've read up on, the default modem/routers they send out are super average on the router side of things. I guess the average person can deal with it but if you even remotely care about network performance then it's worth upgrading.

      The router they give you works fine as a modem, but its got cheap internals for the wifi. It works but it sucks. I bought this second router to use as a wifi/router only. It would be better if the ISP's offered different options for routers, but they're using dinosaur stuff.

    A waste of equipment ... you can never use the 160Mhz band, even forcing it to work only at 80Mhz ... very poor equipment and very poor support from Tplink ... their forum is full of complaints and no solutions.

    • @MrYgorSoares
      @MrYgorSoares 4 года назад

      @@fenixtech1342 The advantage is precisely to use the AX network, if you leave this equipment in automatic, they always prefer the longest range instead of the highest speed! Try it on automatic and you will notice that even in AC, you will often be using 20 MHz or 40 MHz instead of 80 MHz!

    The ax50 a total shit, I replaced it with a Netgear ac 1900 thinking that it would be better and no! The devices are disconnected, you do not get a good signal or you have a signal but you do not have internet, you do not have a month of use, at any time I change it for the old one, do not spend your money on this equipment.
