    Just bought this particular router from Target on sale for 65 bucks and its probably the best router I've ever owned. You cannot beat this unit for the money.

    I bought this router, and I was very pleased with it until my ISP upgraded their service from 100 mBps to 600 mBps. The output of the router (both WiFi and ethernet) remains capped at around 95mBps. I have had two technicians from the ISP check the installation, and both confirmed that the ISP is delivering the higher speed (they measured 580mBps), but the the router WAN port seems to be throttling the speed. I was on the phone for an extended period with TP Link Tech Support who had me do numerous tests, but who never suggested any solution to the problem. Eventually, they offered to replace the router, but then a few hours later they reneged on that offer because the warranty period had expired. Bottom line: my AX50 does not perform up to the published specifications for the device, and TP Link has not responded positively to address the issue.

      It sounds like you have QOS enabled and it is throttling your speed. I would turn off QOS and see how the speeds respond. I would also do a wired connection to verify that the router is receiving the max speed.

    Hi LAMAR MK. I have been fascinated with the AX50 for a while and wanting to get it, but the economy is a little tight right now, so it will have to wait a bit, but right now I have a Linksys WRT-1900AC, which is 6 years old and I am farely happy with it, but I live in a 4 story house and we live on the second floor and the Linksys has a hard time reaching out on the porch on the 4th floor, do you think the range of the AX50 would be significantly better in reaching this area? Another question. Were all your measurements with legacy wifi 5 clients and none with wifi 6 clients? I myself have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, which has wifi 6 and I would like to take advantage of this, since I have heard that wifi 6 has better range, than wifi 5, is this true?
    Sincerely Thomas.

      Hi Thomas, thanks for checking out my channel. It will get better soon, just keep hanging in there. 🙏
      In my demonstration it had to go through several walls, so you should still be able to pick up the signal as long as you point the antennas in those direction.
      Yes the devices I used to test are WiFi 5 and I was able to get those amazing performance. So I can only imagine how much better it will be on WiFi 6 devices.

    Funny because I have the same router w/ Xfinity gig service with an Arris S33 2.5 gig modem and I get 200 Mbps on the 5 ghz channel on my iPhone 12 standing right next to it. Also (have a 1700 sq foot home); my router is in my kids room & only the bathroom separates the kids room from my room and from my room I get a weak signal on my Chromebook & iPhone. I had to buy a TP-Link RE650 extender to put in my bedroom so that I get full signal strength (it's about approx 20 feet from the router to where I sit in my room through 2 walls with the bathroom in the middle and the signal is weak). In the backyard there is pretty much no signal. The only way I have a signal in the backyard is from the extender in my room (both router & extender are on the second floor).
    Ethernet into LAN ports I pull around 200 Mbps. I'd say about 4-5 times since February 2022 I've pulled 600 Mbps through the LAN ports. But 99.9% of the time it's around 200-240 Mbps. Should be at least 700 Mbps via ethernet so something in my simple network is causing these ridiculously slow speeds (I say slow because I pay for 1 gig service). Same thing with my iPhone 12; I've gotten 500 -600 Mbps about 4 times ever and that was standing right next to the AX50.
    So I've gotten 500+ Mbps speeds a handful of times in the last six months so I know it's possible with the hardware I have. But I want 500+ Mbps speeds (wired & wireless) 100% of the time (when I'm using wifi right next to the router).

      A router is basically your Antenna to spread the wireless signal throughout your house. So yes, you still need to have an internet connection going to your house from an internet service provider, and then you connect the router to your modem. The internet connection goes through the modem and to the router. 👍💪

      I left at smart connect, it seems like changed to 2.4 when I went up in my room. I was getting 8 mbps down and 0.23 up.But after turned off smart connect and retested on 5G I got 144 down 13.9 up. I thought 2.4 is for better range but its not. My router is in 1st floor living room, far opposite site from this room.

      Awesome! Glad it’s better now. You don’t want it on smart connect at all, with that on it automatically switches the bands. 2G should only extend the range but not speed, I keep everything on 5G and have no issues with range or speed.
      It could also perform better if you had it on the 2nd floor.

      At 5G, Asus ax3000 gets 480 mbps down when my internet plan is only at 400 mbps. Tp link was getting under 300 mbps. So Asus looks like a winner for extra $30. But I had to go to best buy to exchange since my delivered unit was a defect. Returning my tp link AX50 to amazon.

      @@OBRider What is the speed of your ISP? If your modem only supports 50Mbps that's all you'll be able to get through your router.
      You only get faster speeds as in range performance, so this router would give you speeds as close to your 50Mbps at a far distance than other routers.

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад +1

      See if this helps.
      1. Disconnect the router from the modem and power source.
      2. Hard reset your ISP modem with the reset button or pin hole.
      3. Reconnect the router to the modem once the modem starts booting up.
      4. You can also try to hard reset both the modem and router.
      Hopefully, that helps.

    Warning! My AX50 was sent back after purchase because it heats up more than I like (50°C on bottom). According to TP-link it should be max 40°C. It's never nice to have a newly bought item sent back for 'repair'! And these issues should not end up with the end-user. :( Any chance you can measure the heat under your router during use?

    • @LamarMK

      @@LamarMK I bought my router on July 15th 2020 (in Belgium). It was hot right away, but I first contacted TP-link to know what a reasonable temperature would be. The router was standing on an open space with 25°C ambient temperature. So really nothing wrong there. I got a normal temperarture of 35°C confirmed from another user. So it's not a mass production issue I guess.

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад

      Did the repair fix the heating issue for you? I just checked my router again and the bottom does feel a bit warm, but I don’t notice any difference in the performance.

      @@LamarMK will let you know if I get it back. In TP-link forum the 'tp-technician' even dares to say one can add an external fan! or mount it vertically. I totally don't agree with any router needing an active cooling or 'certain' position to prevent over-heating. (It's not a performance issue , it's a heating = reduced lifetime issue) :)

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад

      Hey, thanks for getting back to me. I totally get it. I did more research and saw TP-Link also recommends changing the transmit power from high to something lower or in between.
      It should be fine in the open as long as it’s not enclosed in anything, sitting on top or close to any other devices that draws a lot of heat. If I start having any issues with it I’ll surely do an update video.
