Your Pixel 6 Pro doesn't support Wifi 7. You can't test speeds of Wifi 7 without a Wifi 7 client like the One Plus 11 5G. Yes Wifi 7 still uses 5 GHz and 6 GHz like 6E but it has Multi Link Operation (MLO) so it can use several bands 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz simultaneously. Your tests are testing it only in 6E mode and therefore do not properly represent the potential of the router. Someone watching this review and seeing only the performance of 6E will be mislead.
Thats the most common when someone is purchasing a router, I can go ahead and post some local speed tests as well and iPerf, let me know and I can get that done :) I will also be making another video more on that as well looking at the speeds more in depth also the lan speeds too.
He is also using it only in 6E mode because the Pixel 6 Pro doesn't support Wifi 7 and its most important feature Multi-Link Operation that allows the usage of several bands e.g. 5 GHz and 6 GHz simultaneously. He could have bought a One Plus 11 5G that has Wifi 7 to test it as the best network reviewer DongKnowsTech has done.
Two things to notice: First: you're Canadian, you use metric system; don't be a fool. Second: can't believe you're using bad/regular Internet connection to test a top-of-the-range wifi router speeds. Not good, sorry.
I mean you can't test router by using internet speeds, that's just weird. I don't really care what internet speeds you get in where you live :D It seems like you are honestly pretty ignorant about routers. Also about the distance test, only way to do it fairly is in open space without obstructions, but even then it wouldn't really matter since this would be placed in building made of various materials. Overall, review was just useless, maybe do some basic research first before reviewing a product.
I would like to have seen test done all the ethernet ports I have seen some of these routers with the 10 Gb port, but don’t have the full performance of 10 Gb
The distance results are not surprising, lower speed networks have a longer wavelength which means they carry a signal further, that's also why more 5g masts are needed than lower speed 4g
I don't think they are that fast yet, if so you are paying some serious money for it, as in if you were a business that actually needed that type of speed. The 10G is more for a LAN, but it also future proofs that router as ISP supported speeds increase.
Again this is a problem when showing speed tests. Someone needs to setup a local open speed test server connected with the highest through put port to see really wifi 7 speed numbers.
While I am impressed with the hardwire specs and capabilities - the LED screen is REDICULOUS ..... why not have a nice OLED screen that is actually functional and much easier to read
Your results for the 6GHz tests are consistent with those expected of that band. The higher the frequency, the shorter the range it will be and the lower its ability to go through walls. So yes, 6GHz can be very much faster than 2.4GHz and 5GHz but only when the device is close to the router. At longer distances, and/or through more walls, 2.4GHz is actually more reliable though a lot slower. In any case, Wifi 7 is, as of now, still not official yet so the standards are still subject to change. And as some in the comments here have pointed out, the speed results seen here do not represent to true capabilities of this router as the device used to connect to the router does not support Wifi 7. But still a good reveal of this router overall.
A little too early for me to have Wi-Fi 7 as this thing doesn't even have external antennas. I'll stick with 6E for now as I have last year's high-end model.
Its so big because they put the antenna's inside... 5/6Gbit channels do not get very efficient range, which is proof of just how massively overpowered the drivers and antenna's are for you to get what you have from a single unit.
I want 6 months usage test. I am about to buy - if I find it anywhere - this router - DUE to ports not the wifi, I need as many 10GbE and 2,5GbE as I can buy but also with wifi. Please tell us about 'freezing' of this router when around 70 devices are connected, what about 'auto-rebooting' ? Is that fixed?
Internet speedtest is non-sense. If you want to check the real speed, copy gigabites files through your network between computers. If it was faster than LAN, then it is fast.
Great review! Do you have a recommendation as to what modem to use with it? I know it has to be compatible with your ISP but wanted to know what I would need to actually utilize this router
Very informative. Can you advise if you can keep the SSID's for 2.4 , 5 , 6/7 separated. I know the DECO range forces you to merge the 2.4 and 5 which is a showstopper for me.
That combo feature is called SmartConnect, which you can turn OFF. How many SSIDs you can create after that, I don't know yet. I'm getting the younger brother, Archer BE550 with all 2.5G ports at $269.
Great Review. I ordered one as well and waiting for it to arrive, next month :) It gives me high hopes of improving my connection speeds across the apartment.
Was it really a good idea to keep the antennas internal for this router? There is a range reason why the antennas are external to the unit on most other routers...
It would have been nice to have an external option for extra antennas, I also have the Asus et12 with internal antennas and the range is very good on that one as well pretty much the same range as you would get with external antennas.
I haven't had the chance, but I think you might be right especially when it comes to the signal. The only thing I wish the Asus had is at least the 2.5g ports
@High Tech Point well it has one 2.5Gb or dual 10Gb or link aggregation foe the 1Gb but yeah....even though I don't need more than what it has it would be nice to not have still 1Gb ports lol
This looks super cool, but the fact that the speed drops off so dramatically with distance feels kinda bad, especially given the $600 pricetag. Having to stay within line of sight kind of defeats the point of... you know... it being wireless.
Based on my latest research, the NETGEAR Nighthawk Tri-Band WiFi 7 Router (RS700S) and the TP-Link Tri-Band BE9300 WiFi 7 Router Archer BE550, are likely mislabeled or incorrectly advertised as Wi-Fi 7 routers. Considering how big the router is you think they would be able to include the power supply inside the unit instead of having a giant brick. I have the AmpliFi Alien and they did a great job with the design.
Good point, but at the same time having a power supply inside the devices would generate even more heat inside the device. 10 G NICs generate a lot of heat. And the computer and associated components needed to run the router also generate heat too.

@@ShawnLangford Possible, but most routers do have an external brick instead of an internal power supply. The one you mentioned only has 1 G NICs, there is a very big difference in the heat that a 1 G NIC vs what a 10 G NIC generates. The iPhone 11 supports 802.11ax Wi‑Fi 6 with 2x2 MIMO. That should mean that it is capable of connecting to a Wi-Fi network with up to 877 Mbps of bandwidth. This is much faster than your current Internet speed connection provided by your ISP.
I put a wireless solution in a thick concrete walled house (inner walls are concrete too) to send signal to a NON-REBAR concrete brick garage.
