Confirmed Adetokumboh M'Cormack has Voice of Apocalypse in X-men 97 young apocalypse in egypt and present day he can resurrect gambit and banshee form as Four Horsemen.
"I am as far beyond mutants as they are beyond you. I am ETERNAL!!" True to his persona and his thirst for power, that's Apocalypse in a nutshell. Well done.
I know its unofficial but the indie fighting engine MUGEN made a fully playable normal Apocalypse with a completely original moveset. His intro shows him as En Sabah Nur, then he rips off his cloak and coats himself in his iconic armor. He uses various alien weapons from his suit, including his hand cannon and shield from the animated series. In fact, you shouod make a retrospective on MUGEN and how their sprites compare to Capcom. Some characters are ripped right from the games while some are actually improved. Like Wolverine, mid fight, you can remove or put on his mask as a taunt, giving the option to play as him in his masked or unmasked looks which is a useless but awesome thing for fans.
The long-haired character in the glass near Beast must be Rictor (Julio Richter) he was one of the new characters saved by X-Factor in the team's first run. The other one is just Forge with Sunspot's head.
Apocalypse must have left *_quite_* the mark in fighting game history back in the day, since he’s the reason later bosses in the series (save Cyber Akuma) having giant forms (even Yami), and French Bread in particular even paid homage to him with _their_ giant bosses in earlier versions of Melty Blood in the mid-late 2000’s.
"there exists no freedom from me. there is only freedom through me!" "i am far beyond mutants as they are beyond you!" "i am the rocks of the eternal shore: crash against me and BE BROKEN!"
Interesting that the 3 Street Fighter characters that were captured were Blanka, Sakura and Dan. Cause the three of them later on become canonical friends, but I don't know if that was even established by the time of this game, considering Blanka wouldn't return until Alpha 3. I wonder if this had an impact on the lore?
I really wish Apocalypse was in more games. He is the other X-Men's main villain outside of Magneto and human leaders. I really love him in the 90's show, he looks great in Evolution and I wish Wolverine and the X-Men finished so we could see what happened with him.
I would say that the right most capsule on top is Morph as well, but that means someone remembers him existing in the cartoon because I remember him bitting the bullet on the very first episode of it.
He came back several times. It's been awhile but he was definitely back several times and evil/angry about having been left behind. Idk how that times with this though.
Apocalypse showing up usually takes a co-ordinated effort from all mutants to take down... or y'know, one clumsy Japanese comedian. I actually had no idea his story ran that deep or that he was a recurring villain! I had always thought he was just kinda a 90s character Marvel wanted to promote at the time
Yep! He was more or less contained to X-books for his first few years, but the one two punch of X-Men: The Animated Series and Age of Apocalypse did a lot to boost his recognition among the general public.
I was hoping Punisher would be one of the characters trapped in the capsules. It could be a homage to his game being the first time Marvel collaborated with Capcom.
This video popped up in my feed earlier today. I've now spent 5 hours watching your Vs Legacy videos. Honestly man, these videos are absolutely dope as fuck. A lot of other 'Legacy' videos I've seen regarding these games get a little too FGC-geeky for me. But your stuff hits a real sweet spot; your genuine love for these games (and the comics) has got me hooked. Keep 'em coming man. ***Subscribed***
Thanks! I'm far from the best player, but bridging the gap between appreciation of general aesthetics and the more hardcore aspects of the games is exactly the balance I'm trying to strike with these videos, so it's nice to hear that it's appealing to others!
What's sort of odd is if you look at that stage detail on the Marvel vs Capcom wiki, it looks like its a different sprite for Forge, and Cannonball rather than Sunspot next to him. As for the two mystery mutants on the other side of the stage, I think the short haired one has to be Morph. The one with the longer hair, and *possibly* a headband, would make me think its not an X-Man at all, but rather Fabian Cortez. Though that might mean he's not wearing a big X on his costume there, but rather the V like design that the Acolytes have. If that's the case, the Sunspot on the other side may actually be another Acolyte since they have the same body (Forge and "Morph" also have the same body). I don't know what Acolyte that'd be though.
So I actually combed through this video, and sure enough, there's some footage of Cannonball being in Sunspot's place (At 10:43, specifically). I'm guessing they randomly swap the sprites when the stage is loaded, though I have no clue why they'd have two separate Forge sprites. Thanks for pointing this out, I kinda wish I'd caught that before putting this video out haha
I like how apocalypse berates and mocks everyone in his intro except for Ryu and Storm. The way he speaks sounds kinda respectful in a way by calling Ryu the wandering warrior and storm the mistress of elements.
Hold it just looking see up right here found it spot two character cameo is Morph and Kitty Pryde get trap by apocalypse stage X-men Vs. Street Fighter series and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter series.
This channel is criminally underrated. I liked the video to help. Ur videos are well made and you dive into the lore in a great way. Keep it up man I cant wait for ur channel to pop off like it should.
I think if Apocalypse managed to move out of the X-Men Suburbs into the wider Marvel neighborhood he could actually be big enough to become a boss in a game like this ( you know if they ever get around making more!). He's definitely got the powers and the scope. We can dream, right? Though unfortunately his time has lead to a bit of Darkseidification. You know, Darkseid who's a big threat on paper but Superman has beaten him up so much it's like "Ugh Darkseid. Clean Up in aisle 3. Superman get in here." Not the characters's fault of course but you can only watch an "INDESTRUCTIBLE" character get trounced so many times before it demotes him to "jobber with hype". Speaking of,non fighting games dont help with this. X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. He's like the middle point boss on your way to fight the real tough guy of the piece, Magneto. They should have called the game X-Men: Mutant Magneto. Clone Wars for the Sega Genesis also has Apocalypse incidentally as a boss but at least you have to go to Apocalypse's stage and treated as a big deal, not like fighting Apocalypse in a random room in Genosha. And finally I think the Apocalypse in the movie was...interesting. They took his whole thing and made him a cult leader who doesn't just kidnap people puts them in tubes and brainwashes them (although I think he does do some of that) but finds people at the lowest point in their lives, losing family, losing their powers, being Olivia Munn, and he CHARMS them into being part of his deathcult with promises of a better life. Maybe the movie's...not so hot. IDK I haven't seen it in years, but it's an interesting angle on the character.
In the first X-Men game on the Genesis (simply titled "X-Men"), he's the level boss for the third stage of the game, Excalibur's lighthouse. Well to be fair, it's the Danger Room simulating the location and Apocalypse, but it still feels like the game is cheapening the X-Men's second most iconic antagonist by just having him randomly hanging out there.
So Apocalypse, well I don't really have any experience with him myself, I've not really seen any X-Men cartoon other than Wolverine and the X-Men and none of the other Marvel stuff I have experience with has him in it, so seeing Max Dood play XMVSF and MSHVSF was actually my first-time hearing about him. It's kind of a shame we haven't seen him in any of the other Vs games, like making more sprites for regular sized Apocalypse and having some of the boss stuff be his supers would be sick, heck you could even have a super sorta like one Anakaris has in Marvel 2 where he becomes a sort of playable boss fight for a few seconds, that would be sick af. Always nice to see another boss covered as well. "It is time you met your father miss Li" You did not need to go that far man.
Would love for you to do one on Storm. Especially since she’s the second leader of the x-men next to Scott since the 80s Also her being one of the best characters competitively in mvc2
You know I _thought_ that might've been Rictor, given he's directly opposite Sunspot, another New Mutant transplanted into X-Force; but the hair was kind of throwing me off, so I discounted the possibility. I think you might be right, though!
@@TheSeventhForce The hair is the mullet style he had around the end of the OG New Mutants title, but in particular he looks like how he appears in X-Tinction Agenda and his cameo in the animated series Slave Island S1 episode. The hair and green/white mutate outfit is identical to both appearances.
AOA is one of my top favorite stories I have been reading X-Men for a long time. I was maybe 21 when it came out. Great video. One of my favorite characters
Wait I could be mishearing or wrong but yami is not original to the versus series. It’s the final boss of okami. That being said it is an odd decision that they made yami the final boss of the game where Amatersu does not appear
I always had the impression that these characters were *generally* inspired by their comic book incarnations, but it's crazy to me just how much direct inspiration is taken fron specific pages and panels. You can really tell the team really loved the characters.
Yep! There was a Capcom dev (Katsuya Akitomo, I mention him in a few videos) that was a big Marvel fan and would translate entire issues of comics for the dev staff so they could read up and use them as reference/inspiration. He stated for example, that Amazing Spider-Man issue #350 was what he had the team study when designing Dr Doom in the series. If you read it, you can immediately point out molecular shield, plasma beam and even the pink photon shots out. It's really neat, they did their homework.
So doing a bit of research my best guess on who other two are Julio Richter, only resemblance is the lengthy hair, and a big maybe on Cannonball. But I agree, it looks a lot more like Morph from TAS. Other than that, I have absolutely no idea. I also like the small detail of Storm looking uncomfortable since she's known to be claustrophobic.
Something I notice about the loading screen for Apocalypse is that if look closely at the bottom where it says who your opponent is it says “Apocalypse Now!”. I know this sounds dumb but at first I thought it was reference to Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 war film of the same name but honestly I don’t think that’s the case at all.

That one's a bit of editorializing on my part 😆 The quotes in the second & third text box were originally in one text box in the Japanese version, but it wouldn't have fit without the text being really small for the English translation, so I cut the last "Now I shall take your life!" bit he has for every other character so that the pacing wouldn't be screwed up. Apologies for being unintentionally misleading there!
That's the laser satellite attack hitting from behind Cyclops just off screen. It does look like it's the sphere doing that, now that you mention it. 😅
