I remember how much my 9 year-old self was in awe watching Dante fighting against Deadpool the first time I played MVC3. Like, they were literally blasting each other in a bar.
The original draft of this video was closer to an hour and a half, actually! Trimmed a lot of fat and reworked a good chunk of the script in the last two days in the interest of decent pacing.
Also, if Phoenix Wright was the peak of translating a non fighter into a fighting game, Dante is the case of translating a character that was made for a fighting game back into one.
Honestly seeing the vast diversity between MVC2 and MVC3 is astounding. You see the franchises that were created after MVC2 and how it impacted the roster Funny how Dante is the closest we are to having Leon in MvC because if you look at Dante and RE4 Leon, they are so similar. Honestly Dante will never not be awesome. I hope they use his DMC5 design for the next MvC because even though we all lovr the design of DMC3 Dante, his appearance in 5 was awesome.
Yeah, my favorite thing about the Capcom roster in MvC3 & TvC is seeing characters that only came to be after the Vs games went on hiatus get represented.

THERE IT IS! The Dante moveset history we've been waiting for! I 1st recognized him in UMvC3 and I liked him more as an action character with his dual gun, sword, and red outfit at 1st glance before I know his series Devil May Cry. And oh boy, his series' action is so great.

A cool detail noticed about DT for Dante and Vergil in MVC, is how they both lose the ability to speak when doing it. In the DMC games, they usually get a voice filter for their normal lines, but similarly, they never say a word when in Devil Trigger for cutscenes. It wasn't until DMC5 where we see Dante speak while in DT canonically, but he and Vergil never do so in SDT.
@@hapi4714 Didn't point this out in the video, but Dante does indeed speak in DT in MvCI, both in gameplay and in cutscenes, complete with filter. DMC5 was the first time canonically, though yeah.

Also I love how his Devil Trigger design from DMC3 is instantly recognizable as being one of Kaneko’s works. Cool video as always!

Every time a new vid comes out, I'm ready for the next one. Awesome vid again. I'll stick up for DMC, besides personal gripes with story elements and some design choices, the game itself (gameplay and direction with the gameplay) was great to me. I just took it as it was instead of comparing and I enjoyed my time with it. Plus, it gave us the "F you" scene...lol
I'm just going to nerd out about the devil trigger design and how it's design is connected to another series from SMT cause of the artist you pointed out but I love how much it looks like the atma avatars from Digitial devil saga like you put them side by side you can really tell. Sometimes I just love games where people turn into demons.
The epic is here! But would we expect anything less from the legendary demon hunter? It's actually insane how well his moveset is done in both his Vs series appearances, he is an absolute joy to play and he just *feels* like he's Dante. Also, idk why, but I really enjoy when characters use an older design but are still definitely their later timeline selves, much like Phoenix and Maya definitely being from the original trilogy, but referencing things from post-Apollo Justice titles. I will say, Dante is one of the few characters who's MVC3 endings actually feel in-character. Not sure how to describe it, but most of the endings from the game just feel...off? He's also the only one I recall getting brand new illustrations in UMvC3, also! I never put together the idea of the blue hair outfit being a Breath of Fire III reference, which made me both happy (yay Breath of Fire!) and sad (Still no BoF character in the Vs games:(... )
@TheSeventhForce I don't actually own the Ultimate version, so I haven't seen all the endings. I kinda fell out of fighting games temporarily between vanilla and UMvC3, and by the time I got back in a few years later, I just... never got around to buying it xD I just need to pick it up on PS4 or something when it goes on sale again.

Yup... never forget that SMT Nocturne/Lucifer's Call box meme with the "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series" emblem, funny enough, that was the 1st JPN re-release, which later became a DLC for the HD Remastered version as said version is based on the 2nd JPN re-release, didn't know about his Ps2 cameo of Viewtiful Joe, PS All Stars was a shame (also based on his rebot), funny how you referenced the initial infinite model that was used on the story demo, he pretty much fits way too well in the MVC fighting game style. Edit: I agree Dante's best moment in MVCI was his rivalry with Jedah for the Soul Stone.
This sounds like biblical greed considering Dante's Everything Else, but I do wish that Nevan had its scythe form in an attack, and that he used Spiral (his sniper rifle), always bugged me he had every other weapon from DMC3 but that one. Great vid as always.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but on a rewatch I want to point out million stabs actually originates from mvc2, it's one of his devil trigger exclusive tilt combos. But functionally speaking the mashing aspect does come from dmc3 unless that was the intention of the reference

A whole hour is actually less than i expected but still really cool Following the nocturne thing i do have a crack theory the final arena in persona 3 is a call-out to the teminigru as i assume p3 and dmc3 were being made around the same time
My favorite character of Capcom history for sure from my favorite video game series ever. I was through the roof when he was confirmed for Marvel 3. Like that to me made that game an easy sell when he was revealed. If they make Marvel 4. I really hope they go for DMC 5 Dante since he has more cooler moves from that game that has potential for a fighter. There is no shred of doubt Dante will return if another cross over title happens. He is too iconic. So much so he won the popular character vote in the latest Capcom Polls. The Iconic Wahoo Pizza Man ain't going nowhere.
I remember I mained DMC and Trish was always my assist, with Dante and Vergil swapping on point. I remember after I started getting proper combos specifically with Dante, and mix ups. I’ll remember my dad watching me TOD two team members, and my friend finally killed Dante. “At least you can kill one of the brothers.” I was always the worst of the fighting game players in the group, but marvel 3 and dbfz I put myself on something crazy.
Okay, I didn't expect this video to be an hour long, but hey! An hour featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series! :3 Also, if I'm going to be honest, Dante's number of appearances in crossovers is almost on par of that with Morrigan, believe it or not P.S. dante's so fun in mvci. My favorite thing to do is Launch to enemy in the air, do sky dance and then tag in zero while dante's mid air and activate rekkouha
I rented DMC back in the olden days but didn't buy it, I was more a fan of God of War combat styles in that era. Decided to replay the original the other day and it's more fun than I gave it credit for. Compared with modern games it's refreshing in it's speed and difficulty. There isn't even a tutorial in the main game, I had to look up moves in the menus just to beat the first area.
So Dante, well I do like playing as him, and I think he's good, but I wouldn't say he's one of my favorites. And that's pretty much all I got, since I still haven't played any DMC game; It's just one of those, "I'll get to it when I get to it" kinda series for me. Although like I mentioned in the community post, the fact that he doesn't wear a shirt in his DMC3 outfit, yet still has the weird belt thing bothers me, and I have no idea why, it just does. And I kinda hope we get a different design if we get a new VS game. And on Dante in PlayStation All-Stars since I'm the guy here who does actually like the game; I would say he was well done. see a combo video for him in that game and you'll probably get why; it does look like the team at Super Bot did know what they were doing when designing a DMC character, it just so happened to be Reboot Dante they had to design for, since Capcom flat out refused to let them use the classic design for even an alt costume judging by things the devs have said over the years. If any of y'all want to know more about Dante in that game, Bobthepetferret has a video similar to this style about him, and the rest of the cast.
I remember seeing Dante's design in DMC2, I didn't know about DMC back then, but even I said "Wow! That looks amazing! 😮" And ended up drawing DMC2 Dante in my notebook, and I didn't like to draw back then! And that is why it always makes me so upset is that they always chose Dante's DMC3 design for the Marvel vs Capcom games (the ugliest of Dante's designs 😒) over his much cooler DMC2 design! 😤
Never in my life have I heard someone say “Stylish Action” when talking about DMC or games similar to it. I’ve always heard people say “Character Action.”
@@ThomatoSauce It was a term Capcom actually used themselves during DMC1's marketing, IIRC. That said, there's been a push in recent years I've observed in regards to genre discussions with people describing DMC/Bayonetta as Stylish Action as it's marginally more descriptive than the otherwise vague Character Action term.
I will never understand why Capcom pick the reboot design for Dante as his alternate costume because from my knowledge that reboot was crazy controversial and for some reason they picked his reboot design as an alternate costume. It’s sort of the same thing what happened to Spencer who would have been a great addition if they didn’t used that awful edgy reboot design and for someone his alternate costume was his old design from the NES games which baffles me as to why they couldn’t just use his old design as his default costume and the reboot design could have just been a DLC costume. Thought to give credit at least Capcom used his classic design first with then used his reboot design as an alternate costume but even then I don’t know why Capcom wanted to remind people of that reboot.
Actually, I think I get why. The reboot Devil Trigger is literally just a palette swap, so it'd be easier to implement than making a whole new model for any of the other DTs from 1, 2, and 4.
It’s kind of sad how PlayStation All Stars turned out because the idea of a PlayStation crossover is such a clever idea but they ruined it with the roster being hit or miss and the gameplay not being quite as good as SSB. I kind of wish Sony would make more crossover games because Sony has a lot of great IPs for a potential crossover game but I guess the closest thing we got was Astro Bot on PS5.
I’m ashamed to admit this but I’ve actually never played a single DMC game except for briefly playing DMC 1 on a HD Collection. All I know about the series is that DMC 1, 3, 4 and 5 are often called the best games in the series but I also heard that DMC 2 is pretty bad and I also know of that dumb edgy 2013 reboot which looks terrible. They look like fun games because over the top the gameplay and cutscenes are and the characters look really cool and furthermore their inclusion in MVC did spark my interest in trying out the series.
Fun fact: Langdon is also a stunt actor in most of the japanese tokusatsu shows, including Kamen Rider, where he played Mac Windy in B-Fighter Kabuto, as well as a regular stuntman in Dragon Knight.

My favorite anime of all time inspired Dante? No wonder I liked the former so fast. Somehow I never caught the similarities.
22:32 there seems to be a weird audio bug here
...? Seems fine on my end here.
@ Odd. For me it came off as weird. Like the audio was double layered. Rest of the video was fine for me
@@TheSeventhForce double-checked it on my computer. Still has a weird reverb(?) effect.
the marvel 3 section being almost 40 minutes long sounds about right
If you think pre pacth Dante in Infinite looked bad, wait until you see Chun Li in that one e3 trailer
🍕PIZZA TIME!🍕
1:05:30 surprised street fighter didn't make that list
fun fact most of Beowulf's moves are references to street fighter characters
Me and a friend will be Dante and Virgil for Sakuracon again. (Hopefully he’ll wear the wig this year.)
And after Dante the producer created Date Masamune in Sengoku BASARA UwU
I remember seeing Dante's design in DMC2, I didn't know about DMC back then, but even I said "Wow! That looks amazing! 😮"
And ended up drawing DMC2 Dante in my notebook, and I didn't like to draw back then!
And that is why it always makes me so upset is that they always chose Dante's DMC3 design for the Marvel vs Capcom games (the ugliest of Dante's designs 😒) over his much cooler DMC2 design! 😤
14:20 erm actually it first appeared in DMC2
@@JuriSinsNever said it didn't! I said 3 is when they first started locking it to Gunslinger.
@@TheSeventhForce touché
49:40 very BLOMBY
48:22 that mini costume was a mistake
I wish they could bring back Lucia from Devil May Cry 2 she was a badass
Seen which will have the last word in dissing
Never in my life have I heard someone say “Stylish Action” when talking about DMC or games similar to it. I’ve always heard people say “Character Action.”
@@ThomatoSauce It was a term Capcom actually used themselves during DMC1's marketing, IIRC. That said, there's been a push in recent years I've observed in regards to genre discussions with people describing DMC/Bayonetta as Stylish Action as it's marginally more descriptive than the otherwise vague Character Action term.
Dante is busted in PSASBR but shockingly he's not top 1 as that honor belongs to Kat from Gravity Rush
FUNNY WOOHOO PIZZA MAN IS HERE!!!!!
Where is Dante featuring from?
BRO WHEN I SAW DANTE AS A MII COSTUME I WAS DISAPPOINTED
Is this a reupload?
Nope, completely new video.
@@TheSeventhForceI could have swore I saw this video before or am I tripping? 0_o
I posted the thumbnail for it a couple weeks ago in a community post announcing the video, that might be what you're remembering.
