The case for War Machine's theme having a chunk referencing Iron Man's theme is what's referred to as a Leitmotif, often explained as a melodic 'phrase', used to evoke the feeling associated with that track relating to a previous entry, be it idea, location, or character. A very notable and easy leitmotif to recognize from gaming is in Undertale, with many of the tracks using the same melody from the prologue cutscene and title screen, if you can imagine what that sounds like in your head you can probably think about the other scenes in the game which branch from this original composition. (It's not the only leitmotif in the either.) Some music involving these melodic phrases extends through the whole song, while some leitmotifs occur in very brief segments, being a minor hook that our brain catches onto and associates the track with another. This being the reason why War Machine's theme would be misconcieved as a 'remix', instead of having a lietmotif of Iron Man's theme.
I always found it funny that all the Marvel secret variants in MvC1 are sly ways to 'Fake' characters that didn't quite make it without saying that outright. Red Venom is Carnage. It's honestly really weird how they didn't bring back War Machine for MVCI given that game's focus on tag teams, especially ones you see in the comics and movies, much like how you can have a team with Cap and Bucky or Rocket and Gamora, so you could have a tag team with Iron Man and War Machine. Then again, both MVCI and UMVC3 did try to have rosters with next to zero clones unlike MVC2 so maybe they felt people would've just called War Machine a lazy reskin of Iron Man and a wasted slot unless they gave him a revamped moveset, probably more focused on his extensive weaponry.

And especially when your sprite is a recolor of his suit despite the suit from the comics looking more distinct. Even the promo art for him got the head and upper torso right. His Capcom Wiki page had his contributions, and I think those might be sourced from the liner notes in MvC1's soundtrack release from decades ago, but don't quote me on that.
Dunno why my post got deleted but... What's funniest? In the XO Manowar/Iron Man in Heavy Metal comic which was also published by Acclaim, its actually Rhodey as Iron Man in the story. In other words, Acclaim's game prevented Iron Man (Stark) from being in MvC, so we got War Machine (Rhodey) instead, even though the Iron Man in Acclaim's game (at least if going by their own comic adaptation of their own game) is Rhodey, not Stark. There IS an Iron Man/XO in Heavy Metal Marvel issue and an XO/Iron Man in Heavy Metal Valiant issue (Vailant at this time was owned by Acclaim). Marvel's issue featured Stark. In Acclaim's issue, Iron Man was Rhodey.
I think RUclips's acting up at the moment, you're the second person in the last few minutes to have their comments just erased for no reason. That said, that makes sense! I knew there was a comic tie-in, but only ever read the Marvel one. Didn't know there was another variant that had Rhodey, but that makes all the sense in the world!
Something Interesting about the first two Iron Man films is that they were both directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau was producer on the film Swingers from 1996 and he also directed Elf which is probably one of my favorite Christmas films and is also one of the few films were Will Ferrell’s over the top manchild routine actually works, Chef is also a great movie from him too and is perfect feel good movie. Unfortunately he also did Cowboy & Aliens and those terrible live action remakes of Jungle Book and Lion Ling.
@@gregster1016 I mean if you like the Jungle Book remake then that’s great and I sincerely respect that but in my opinion I found that film to be the most corporate, cynical piece of filmmaking I have ever seen and I just rather watch the 1967 film instead since that version had so much more color and personality compared to the live action remakes. I honestly can’t stand these live action remakes that Disney keeps pumping out because their so corporate and cynical and furthermore lack so much of the storytelling depth that the original animated counterpart had and just remake the surface level aspects of the original films. The only good thing I can say about those live action remakes is that they made appreciate the original animated films even more than I did before.
@@maxtubb Hey, I don't care about the live action remakes either. I'm just saying Jungle Book is the only one I've enjoyed (and I say that as someone who's never seen the original, or most of the films that they've been remaking)
@@gregster1016 I recommend you watch the original animated Disney films because there is so much more to those films in terms of storytelling and emotional depth and furthermore have so much more color compared to the remakes. All these live action remakes do is remake the superficial aspects of the original film and overall lack the heart and emotional depth of the original film.
Was hoping someone would notice! Was always planning to use Battle Bakraid music for this video in particular, then along the way I decided to make the playlist in general a Raizing love letter
I might be the only one who thinks this but am I the only one who thinks Robert Downey Jr and Don Cheadle are both underrated in terms of their acting range because both actors are mostly known for their superhero roles even though they’ve been in other movies. Let’s take Robert Downy Jr for example because mostly everyone knows him for Iron Man but he’s also been in other movies such as Short Cuts, Natural Born Killers, Chaplin, Zodiac, Tropic Thunder and Oppenheimer just to name a couple. Same thing goes with Don Cheadle because he has also been in other movies too such as Boogie Nights, Traffic, Out of Sight, Flight and the first Oceans Eleven film.
@@gregster1016 I did really like him in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and he does give a great performance in that film. I just hate that the moment an acclaimed actor is in a superhero movie their mostly known for that one role which sucks because both Downey and Cheadle are both incredible actors and both have been in some great movies and yet most people just know both actors for superhero schlock.
@@gregster1016 If you want to see some good movies with RDJ I would recommend Short Cuts, Chaplin, Natural Born Killers, Zodiac, Tropic Thunder and Oppenheimer are all great. As for Don Cheadle I would recommend Boogie Nights from Paul Thomas Anderson which is such a great film and probably my second favorite movie just above Punch Drunk Love.
Ahh yes, what is basically Marvel's version of John Stewart. (I mean think about it) I actually have a similar opinion on Rodey as I do John funnily enough, while I prefer John over Hal personally, for Rodey, I think he's just as good as Tony, for their own reasons. As for how he plays, well pretty much how I'd expect him to, and I like playing Iron Man, so therefore, I like playing Rodey. He was actually one of the first characters I picked when starting up MVC1 on the Fighting Collection, along with Jin. (Which if you want to know my updated opinion on Jin, I like playing as him too, even if I didn't have the best time with Cyberbots on CFC1) Which is kinda funny when I realized that they were the two on the trophy icon for doing a variable cross, yet I didn't get that during my playthrough with them lol. Anyways, I'll definitely try and keep that comic book recommendation in mind when looking around. Also two other things. 1, 27:14 Nice Akatsuki Blitzkampf shout out. I tried heroes and heralds and the game still crashes whenever I pick him to fight.
Marvel vs Capcom
Soul Calibur 2
Super smash bros Melee
The holy trinity of character select themes
I'd have to think about what my third would be, but Melee is a pretty solid pick
I didn't know that about Sodom's X-ism theme in Alpha 3! Its always been one of my favorite tracks in the game, too.
I always got the feeling the staff that worked on the Alpha games really liked Sodom. I think he's the only character to have a remixed theme of some sort in every Alpha game.
I always thought he said "Here's my tomato, Proton Cannon!" As a kid
I thought you were gonna recite the line for his Hypercombo 😅
Would you happen to have a source on Kouda's contributions to MvC1's OST? My usual resources (vgmdb, capcom wiki) have never been so precise so I'd love to know!
And I have a scan of Rhodey as Iron Man in the XO/Iron Man (Acclaim issue) if you want proof
Hey now, Jungle Book was good. You're right about Lion King though lmao
We need him for Marvel Rivals alongside his sunday best
Excellent choices in shmup music for this video. Raizing forever
Was hoping someone would notice! Was always planning to use Battle Bakraid music for this video in particular, then along the way I decided to make the playlist in general a Raizing love letter
"here's my sundays best! PROTON CANON!!"
I've always wondered what he said there!
Sevenforce infinite beyond is dropping in 3 days
I saw! I like how the one day I mention the mod in a video, it gets its released date announced lol
All out War!
Brother, you have to do Storm next 🎉
My man, War Machine.
Yeah, if nothing else, MCU casts some legitimately great actors. Some of them kinda get wasted, but that's not really their fault.
I think Robert makes a very good Sherlock Holmes as well
@@gregster1016 I did really like him in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and he does give a great performance in that film.
I just hate that the moment an acclaimed actor is in a superhero movie their mostly known for that one role which sucks because both Downey and Cheadle are both incredible actors and both have been in some great movies and yet most people just know both actors for superhero schlock.
@ yeah, I feel you there :I
@@gregster1016 If you want to see some good movies with RDJ I would recommend Short Cuts, Chaplin, Natural Born Killers, Zodiac, Tropic Thunder and Oppenheimer are all great.
As for Don Cheadle I would recommend Boogie Nights from Paul Thomas Anderson which is such a great film and probably my second favorite movie just above Punch Drunk Love.
I'm more War Machine than Iron Man. MVC1 is the game introduced my main just because.
And 2. 23:56 LEGO MARVEL MENTION LET'S GO!
I think Cyberbots is a really fun game, but it's absolutely a fighter you either click with or you don't, so I get where you're coming from.
Hope you're having a good day
Thanks, it's going alright. Hope yours is good as well!
Another character who been in more Lego games
Can you make a video on Nova?
Planning on doing a video for him in the not too distant future!
