Minor freudian slip on my part at 0:33 - She and Brian Braddock (shown on the comic page at that part) are the twin siblings; Jamie's their older brother. Thanks to @susanstorm7910 for catching that error on my end.
Not really. Most that changed was her Hop Kick got moved to F+HK since mediums got consolidated into lights in Marvel 2 across the board and she lost her upwards Psi-Blast. Both things saw so little use in previous games that I didn't think it was really worth mentioning.
Excellent, meticulously made video as usual Seventh, but as an avid formerly competitive MVC2 player I need correct some minor errors. Her Psyblade AAA does create a hard knockdown but it is rollable, the player actually connects with their opponent in a knocked down state before they touch the ground. Magneto benefits because his C.LK comes out at frame 1 and needs little timing to juggle. Also, she has actually has a triple jump in MVC2 and lastly her Psy-projectiles have an interesting property of not interacting with other projectiles, passing through them, which can lead to interesting pressure scenarios. Regardless, good work! I can't wait to see you tackle Spiral and her wacky lore and moveset. Arguably the most original Marvel vs character in the roster design~wise.
Alongside Mai, Psylocke was amongst the first fighting game girls I found hot back when I was little. Then again, you can’t really go wrong with ninja chicks in fighting games.
Agreed but those rosters were definitely heavily influenced and decided on characters that appeared on the X-Men animated series and psylocke maybe had 2 or 3 episodes and very small appearances
My girl, Psylocke! I remember my first time seeing her in action in the arcades in COTA and I her immensely cool with ninja entrance, her graceful movements in game and her cool ninjitsu powers. Ever since then she became one of my favorite fighter game characters and even one of my favorite ninjas in general. Great video!
I never knew Psylocke had such a complex backstory... then again, this IS X-Men, so I probably should have had a hunch xD MvC was my first time ever seeing that she even existed, and I was excited to finally play as her in MvC2, her badass design and stylish abilities, plus just being fun to play made her a pretty frequent go-to. Also, my friends and I back then always heard all of her attack calls as her just saying "Psylocke", giving the running joke between us that she was actually a Pokemon
And that was honestly an extremely abridged version of her history! I didn't even touch on how the new eyes she got from Mojo were secretly artificial cameras, or the whole crimson dawn tattoo thing, or the time she died and came back or the period where she and Jean swapped powers or-
Amazing work as always. Psylocke's Marvel Super Heroes theme and stage are still perfect to this day. I really wanted her in MVC3. Would've loved to have seen how they would've handled her theme and animations. Thanks Seventh.
Since Marvel 3 always remixed the last theme returning Marvel characters had prior to that game, I imagine it would've been an MSH remix, yeah. Really wonder how that would've sounded.
Glad that you got to Psylocke! Another X-Queen that I love. I’m glad I knew about her thanks to Marvel Super Heroes. Next to Rogue and Storm, she’s definitely one of the hottest X-Men. A great character and a badass warrior. Another one of my fictional crushes hehe. Her animations are also lovely and I like how well Capcom devs captured her coolness and beauty.
Beautiful video covering one of my favorite X-gals! ❤ Always loved her in the games and so did the art staff( including Akiman) as they commented on drawing her heavily in Capcom art books! Thanks for covering her convoluted origin in comics, but also revealing her theme was by the same composer behind Cammy! 2 beautiful themes intertwined with sexy high kicks and mighty thighs!❤ I love it!!!
2:15 Beyond Psylocke/Spiral/Storm/Jill, seems that a suspicious something rounds Catherine DIsher's Voice Works. Indications points her as the only female singer to the lyrics' song of MVC2, like "I wanna take you for a ride". Those tones are suspectly nearby and she's one of fewer female voices in team.
I doubt it's Disher; the vocals in MvC2's character select theme are sampled from a trance single (unsurprisingly) named Take You For a Ride by an artist called G-String released in 1997.
I do have one question about Capcom’s sprite of Psylocke. Why exactly is her skin yellow like a Simpsons character? In the comics and all the shows she’s appeared in, she has a more natural skin tone? Was it a stylistic choice like orange Spider-Man, light-blue Venom, dark brown and cyan War-Machine?
Great video for an underrated x character. Capcom really missed the ballpark not having her in most of the crossovers. Really wished she was in mvc3 as she was well known in mvc2. Hopefully in mvc4? I prefer the 2d oldschool style, like guilty gear/blaze blue, hopefully Capcom will fall back to that just for nostalgia?
Oh my gosh psylocke from X-men children of the atom series late 90s era marvel universe comic book tv cartoon fox kids nostalgia ever I wish crossover Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 match ninja dream is Psylocke Vs. Strider Hiryu most excellent work respectful true honor greatness crossover fighting games all time well done man.
2:15-2:31 No wonder Psylocke, Storm, and Spiral sounded similar to each other. She was also Jean Gray in the animated series. Makes sense! "The mom in Rollie Pollie Ollie." That is a show I've haven't heard in a *looooong* time. A long time... Also yeah, Psylocke's Moon Night theme is Top 3 for me in CotA!
@TheSeventhForce Great breakdown on my girl Psylocke. I agree with you about the music & backgrounds in X-Men: COTA & in Marvel Super Heroes, they were visual beauties. Those 2 games came out in my junior & senior year of high school(I graduated in 1996, MSH came out in late 1995) & IMO, MSH Psylocke was better than COTA Psylocke because she had more moves & so forth but she still took below normal damage yet gave Akuma like style damage EDIT: In Marvel Super Heroes activate Power Gem with Psylocke, perform a basic chain combo & end it with the Psi-Maelstrom & keep mashing the buttons. Guaranteed 100% damage
This channel is awesome. Love the comic recommendations. DO read Hellions. Such an incredible run. I hope we see another X-Men focused 2D fighting game someday. I'd love to hear your roster ideas.
Psylocke was not only my favorite character, but also my childhood crush lol. Anyways, great video! Hey,since the Sega fighting legacy video,I was wondering, could you do for smash bros? I know it might be longer given the amount of characters, but I'd think it'd be cool!
Ah yes, my absolute favorite comic book heroine of all time! She's just so cool, hot and absolutely badass. (Basically got it all, inside and out!) No wonder Capcom fancied her for years!
Psylocke = money. Marvel needs aggressively add her to any project they have in the works cause it's such an easy character to just add "cool" to it. Kenshi, but a hot ninja woman....c'mon.
Ah, Psylocke. A character who you couldn’t seem to name in adaptations because it was so messy. Like, Dr Droom in the 1930’s turning East Asian when he learned from Tibetan mystics messy. She’s also the icon of the infamous “Psylocke pose” where the comics would distort her spine to show images of both her chest and backside. Fortunately, from about 2017, Betsy is back in her own body and Kwannon (silent w) is in the Psylocke body with the code name. She’s definitely the breakout star of Krakoa.
I think she also got a special hk move on the ground which is like right upright up hk attack. She jumps up and does her up hk move, but she doesn't become airborne. Maybe it's ps2 exclusive
Love this channel you know your stuff. But as one X-men fan to another- I'd recommend ignoring all post 2015 Marvel Comics- they're bad for you and worse for the continuity.
I can definitely understand why some folks would feel that way (especially from the perspective of an X-Men fan) but I still find some books to enjoy from Marvel every now and then, even if I think the lead up to Secret Wars 2015 was probably their creative peak. To each their own, though!
If you want to do a capcom vs legacy on iceman you have to release it in June because well he’s not straight and he the first confirmed lgbt vs character (as far as I know of)
So Psylocke... hot take incoming, I don't really care all that much for her, and I don't mean just in the Vs series, I don't read comics so maybe there's something I'm missing, but there isn't really anything I can say I like, her powers aren't that interesting to me, her design is nothing to write home about imo, and her story isn't all that interesting ether, maybe I'll like her more when I get around to trying to play her, but for right now, I wouldn't put her on the list if you asked me for 15 Marvel females I would like to see in this series. (Returning or not) Also one thing I can say is Vs series specific, why is her sprite so... keen on exaggerating her... lady bits... she just looks more cartoonishly overdone than every other female character in this series, like are you okay woman?
She's cool, but also relatively straightforward to play as with no real standout mechanics or anything, so that's fair. As for her sprite, that's par the course for 80s/90s Capcom artists. There's an interview floating around the internet with Yoko Shimomura where she mentions talking to Chun-Li's character designer during SF2's development and he went on a whole uncomfortable tangent on how important it is that Chun-Li have thick thighs and she said the whole conversation kind of creeped her out. Talented folks for sure, but yeah.
@@TheSeventhForce 80's 90's Capcom was wild with the creep shit lmao. They once made a hentai game where all the girls were members of the female staff.
Psylocke’s sprites is hardly an issue tbh. Nothing wrong with a woman being hot. Plus it’s definitely tame compared to Darkstalkers sprite animations, especially Morrigan’s and the Midnight Bliss transformations from Dimitri.
Clearly you’re not a marvel comics or x men fan and hair a gamer so stay in your lane and stop giving out false information she’s Brian’s twin Jamie is the older brother

Were there any extensive changes to Psylocke in MVC2? Last bit didn't cover her regular gameplay.

They went absolutely crazy on her sprite. Character has never looked better than when she was in the hands of Capcom artists.
Capcom knows what saves lives 😅
She's also clearly not wearing a bra.
The cat in psylocke's stage seems to be the same one in Street Fighter Alpha 1, that is on Rose's stage.
Alongside Mai, Psylocke was amongst the first fighting game girls I found hot back when I was little.
Then again, you can’t really go wrong with ninja chicks in fighting games.
She and Spiral were probably the sexiest female X-Men characters. Both of them should've been playable on more crossover games.
Spiral is so underrated

@alstermaniac that is true sir! Both her and Spiral had more appearances in the comic books (and cooler storylines).
Rogue
She’s the twin sister of Brian
Oh dammit, I said Jamie, didn't I? My bad, no idea how I made that slip-up.
Shame we’ll likely never see Captain Britain as a playable character in MvC… 😅
@@FlashshadowI mean, if they wanna bring Betsy back specifically instead of Kwannon then we'll have Captain Britain in the game 👀
Capcom did great on Psylocke. Aside from Rouge's backside win pose, she has one too!
