What a wonderful video! I really appreciate you taking the time to talk about the composers for the character themes and how they reflect the personality of the fighters. Really enjoyed watching this!
24:56 lets take a moment to appreciate one of the most nonsensical yet cool looking moves Capcom ever did for a character in this series. I don't know why Wolverine makes a giant "X" of chi? But damn if it doesn't look cool
I always knew Wolverine was going to be featured. He is the one character players like to pick the most. He is insane with all the combos we do with the ol' canucklehead. And on a fan's note, his theme from MSHvsSF is my most favorite. So mellow and so awesome at the same time, almost like using it for a promo on Toonami. As as far as voices goes, I like both Cal Dodd and Steve Blum as Wolvie. They brought the type of attitude and aggressive nature to the character, no matter what game we play or what show we watch. In short, whether in animation or in gaming, Wolverine is the one go to character we pick, whatever game we play. Never forget that, bub! Well done. 😉
Like most 90's kids, I was introduced to Wolverine through the animated TV series. Re-watching it now though, you can tell that Fox Kids had to work extra hard to try and keep Wolvey's cool factor, and in a lot of parts he ends up being just silly. Like his infamous response to Cyclops, when Cyclops tries to tell Wolverine that they have a job to do. Either way, Wolverine is definitely more of a badass in the games and comics than he was in the 90's cartoon, but that cartoon has charm like no kids cartoon can seem to capture these days. Thanks for taking me down Nostalgia Street TSF, much obliged. Great video.
Yeah, it's kinda funny looking back at the animated series and realizing that he never uses his claws on anything that isn't a Sentinel because of censorship. Still has it's charm though, and that one bit of him just punching Cyclops in the stomach unprompted lives rent free in my head. Thanks for watching!

Or really removing alot of beloved characters from capcom and marvel, infinite itself is a fun game but the roster lacks any variety which is disappointing
Wasn't really up to them. Disney took over marvel by then and MVC series was trying to mirror the MCU. Marvel no longer own the rights to the X-Men or the fantastic four, so a lot of characters that we had liked from MVC 1-3 simply weren't available anymore.
@@XinGraves13 Marvel only didn't have the film rights to the X-Men at the time and could have easily included X-Men characters in video games so it was really more of a petty move they were doing then to devalue the X-Men brand so they could get the film rights back from Fox. What's even more sad about it is that Marvel Infinite came out at the perfectly wrong time since Disney acquired Fox only a few months after the game's release and by 2019 Wolverine was front and center on the box for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
Also...what the heck was the reason his UMVC3 ending changed like that? 😅 Like...what kind of strip club interaction was THAT?! The first one made way more sense for both characters, and was written better, to boot.
UMvC3 made a lot of really weird, unnecessary changes to a lot of endings for some reason. I dunno if they felt they needed to make them feel different from the original release or what, but I can only think of a handful that aren't downgrades.
Imo Wolverine is the poster child of the VS series, right next to Ryu. Its why they are always side by side in a shit ton of posters and promos(except for MVCI but who cares about that trash lmao). Wolverine at the time was probably the second to first most iconic super hero, and ryu was(and very likely still is) the most iconic main character in any fighting game ever. Seeing Ryu in the MVC3 trailers get his ass handed by wolverine and then in the final trailer when he was reaching out for Ken, Wolverine ended accepting his hand and ends up saving him as well as Cap his was pure magic and had so much emotional impact and investment for a simple trailer where no one even talked that outclasses most of the MCU. Wolverine's a relentless rushdown character with pretty great damage output, whereas Black Panther is centered more around creating crazy cross-up situations and has way lower overall base damage as a result. The first character I played in just about everything. X-Men COTA, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men on Genesis, X-Men 2 Clone Wars, etc. Wolvie was the go to guy because he was my favorite character by far when I was a kid. Thanks for the video.
Since you brought up Yakuza at the beginning of the video I have a interesting story to share about how I learned about the Yakuza series. My exposure to Yakuza didn’t came from the success of Yakuza 0 or the memes but came from a concept video for a SEGA Smash Bros from 11 years ago.
Happy Anniversary to the first Capcom made Marvel fighting game. Even though X-Men: Children of the Atom feels weird for me to play (compared to the later games), I have the utmost appreciation for it since it gave us one of the most beloved crossover series in history. Same sentiments for Wolvie. One of my favorite X-Men in comics, shows and movies but fighting him is something I dread. Which is lore accurate, now that I think about it.
Yeah, CoTA feels a lot more experimental (in a good way!), and you can tell they were taking a lot of concepts and seeing what worked. I feel like Darkstalkers 1 is very similar in those regards (though DS1's impact on the genre was more immediately obvious)
With stuff like his berserker barrage doing more damage, the more useful divekick and whatnot, i wonder if Bone Wolverine was meant to feel more like that animalistic wolverine, more aggressive and less controlled
The bone claws idea wasn't a thing until the 90's. In flashback comics (prior to getting his ademantium) with Wolverine during the 80's and early 90's, Wolverine had a healing factor but no bone claws.
Have to say marvel super heroes vs street fighter is my favorite, it’s somber tone is very standout to me. I actually thought wolverine theme in marvel super heroes to be ok until hearing it fully now. The song goes crazy. Still might not be favorite of the bunch but it’s damn great
Well technically speaking, Akuma's playable in every version, not just the Saturn port. But he's essentially a contractually obligated guest character there (IIRC, one of Marvel's stipulations for CoTA was that a Street Fighter character was put into the game), so while he definitely kick-started the idea of Capcom fighter crossovers, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter is generally considered to formally be the first Vs. series entry.
@@smashmaster521 Marvel was the party that drafted the contract, given they're the ones licensing out their characters; IP licensors are usually the ones responsible for that.
I know I'm late for writing this comment but if you had to replace one of the two wolverines with another marvel character who would have been? I chose Jubilee because I think that the marvel side needs a teenage representative (I don't know if spiderman is an adult or a teenager).
Yeah, The Punisher was technically the start of that partnership. The official MvC Complete Works artbook even acknowledges it as well; they feature material for the Punisher game in the same capacity they do for the fighting games.
@@hitmanmonaghan6633 Sadly, it's pretty expensive these days. I really want a physical copy, but I'll have to put aside some money for it. If you have the most recent ports of UMvC3 though, they actually added the entire art book to the gallery mode in that version!
Amazing video as always! And you nailed in the comic recommendation. Rucka's run might not be the best, but is an incredible take on the character. And what a shame he's not in MvCI, made me hate the game because I've played Wolverine for the entire series.
Ahh yes, Wolvie, I honestly don't have much to say tbh, I'm sure you can kinda notice a trend with me not having much on the X-Men characters and that's really just me not being into X-Men all that much, which isn't really new for me, I don't dislike them at all, they've just been a part of Marvel I've not been as invested in as much. As for Wolvie in the Vs games he's pretty good all things considered, and that's all I have to say, he good. I'm kinda surprised that you didn't mention Jubilee in MVC1 ether tbh. 23:43 Being kind of redundant there Logan. And I do have one thing to say about his COTA incarnation, wtf even was that ending? I feel like I just watched some sprite animation parody called "Wolverine in 1 minute" or something like that, and where did the music go when they were in the ship? I'm just baffled by it.
...I completely forgot about the Jubilee assist. Damn. As for the CoTA ending, most of those endings are way more elaborate than most of their other fighting game endings they'd done at that point, so I just chalk up the weirdness to them experimenting.
Children of the atom and mavel superheroes still are the best feeling games in the series. As a wolverine main in all of these games it's certainly noticable.
I know why Wolverine Music sounds like Power Rangers because if you think about it one of the company's who helped made The Power Ragers Shows had helped Capcom out in this game I think that company name is called Saber something like that.
Xmen mutant apocalypse had a small cameo in this vid but I think it would it been accurate to elaborate on that game. It was the clear that this was the origin of his overall style and even some of his specials we would see in the fighting games.
I'm glad you mentioned that, because I had considered bringing it up for Tornado Claw, since he technically had that in Mutant Apocalypse first. If I'm not mistaken, CoTA and Mutant Apocalypse were more or less in development at the same time, and even though MA released a month before CoTA, I didn't want to make a definitive statement on which games may have influenced the other during development without some kind of official sources stating it, so I ended up omitting it. I do wonder which development team came up with the move first, though!
So I guess Black Panther is next? That or Dante, who might be a revisit... or not surprisingly. Also I hope you keep calling out the composers in future videos.
The best there is at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice. The true protagonist of the X-Men and one of Marvel Comics's pillar characters in their all time classic lineup.
Eh, he's tied with Cyclops as the face of the X-Men. Yes, the conflict between Professor X and Magneto drives the franchise, but Cyclops and Wolverine are why I read the book in the first place.
If SEGA were to make a crossovers fighter with their franchises I want to see Jack Cayman from Platinum’s MadWorld. I know MadWorld is probably one of if not the most goriest games on the Wii but I think SEGA and Platinum could figure out how to implement him in a family friendly fighting game. I also hope your having a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
My favorite Themes in X Men Childeren of the Atom are Omega Red theme and Psylocke theme and when it comes to Marvel Super Heroes my favorite Themes in that game are Wolverine,Spider Man,Dr.Doom,Phylocke,Captain America and Jurggernaut.
So this is the savage lands. Be glad bub in this verision of the savage lands that Sauron isn’t present in. You do not want to tangle with that energy vampire slash dinosaurs of a mutant. That tranadon can steal other mutants energy slash powers and he can also hypnotize them if they look into his eyes he’s a major threat
The Fatal Claw super is him dragging his adamantium claws against themselves to generate a spark (look at his taunt). I think you can find small examples in the comics but, you can really see it in the opening to the 90's cartoon towards the end: ruclips.net/video/sAkL2-vh2Sk/видео.html You can also see his claws generate sparks when they hit hard objects in some of the Fox movies. If I had to guess, it has to due with adamantium being a vibranium alloy. Captain America's shield generated sparks when it was scratched by Black Panther (Civil War) and creates a shockwave when hit by Thor's hammer (Avengers 1, 2 and Endgame).
I find it funny that Wolverine was so popular that he was in MvC2 *TWICE.*
His bone claws were longer than his regular claws in that game for some reason
I never quite got that. (and why was Dark Sakura an install if Bone Wolverine was a separate char?)
And they both bottom tier lol

To be honest, I adore Wolverine's Heavy kick in the air, where he just screams and shakes that's really funny
I wish it comes back one day
Fantastic video! I hope you do Kyo Kusanagi soon in the Capcom Vs videos
That's the plan!
Like it or not the dude is the FACE of marvel, sidelining him from infinity is an unforgivable sin
Facts💯Him Spider man & Hulk🔥🔥🔥
Wolverine will always be one of my favorite X-man
The first character I played in just about everything. X-Men COTA, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men on Genesis, X-Men 2 Clone Wars, etc. Wolvie was the go to guy because he was my favorite character by far when I was a kid. Thanks for the video.
My second favorite superhero of all time!!!! My man Wolverine!!!!!! 🙏🏽💪
He was always an impressive fighter...one of the best in fact 😎
Wolverine is one of my favorites
Great video as always. But you've already mentioned that you'll cover the Mutant Academy trilogy, what about Rise Of The Imperfects?
Well, I kinda wanted to keep it under wraps but yeah, a Marvel Nemesis video will be happening sometime in the next 2-3 months!
@@TheSeventhForce lol. Gotcha! Can't wait!
This was awesome! Can't wait for more!
Patiently waiting for the unstoppable JUGGERNAUT video 👀👀👀👀 (I need to hear the voice clips in there)
Huh. Didn't expect Ol' Wolvey. Neat
Also super happy you talked about CotA
With stuff like his berserker barrage doing more damage, the more useful divekick and whatnot, i wonder if Bone Wolverine was meant to feel more like that animalistic wolverine, more aggressive and less controlled
I’ll have to watch this after class ASAP
Just stumbled upon this channel and this is some good shit man!
49:53 DAMN 😂
Logan didn't hesitate, knowing his infinite stamina Morrigan is set for life haha
Soon as I saw the notification I knew you wouldn't disappoint
And you didn't
The bone claws idea wasn't a thing until the 90's. In flashback comics (prior to getting his ademantium) with Wolverine during the 80's and early 90's, Wolverine had a healing factor but no bone claws.
I don't know if you listen to requests, but doing one one Roll would be interesting considering she's been in quite a few VS games depsite who she is.
Have to say marvel super heroes vs street fighter is my favorite, it’s somber tone is very standout to me. I actually thought wolverine theme in marvel super heroes to be ok until hearing it fully now. The song goes crazy. Still might not be favorite of the bunch but it’s damn great
2:28 ha I see Paris I see France I see wolverine’s underpants
39:25
I may not be THAT big a Nasuverse fan, but if I were drinking something at that moment, I think I would've spit a bit of it out.
@5:15 - ...You'd make a statement like that, and NOT mention the Saturn port?! I know you played those ports, and I KNOW you know Akuma was in that...
@@TheSeventhForce Huh, interesting. I never knew about the first parts of that statement...
@@TheSeventhForce I thought Capcom made that stipulation.
@@smashmaster521 Marvel was the party that drafted the contract, given they're the ones licensing out their characters; IP licensors are usually the ones responsible for that.
@@TheSeventhForce Huh...Could have sworn Akuma's inclusion was Capcom's doing.
4:22 so a case of the devil fruits I see
I remember being SO bummed that he wasn't in MvCI.
Btw, you think you'll cover Frank West at some point?
Frank is coming pretty soon!
The Deep might be the most underrated fighting game track in existence. Absolute masterpiece.
I KNEW TOM AND SPIKE SPEGEL SOUNDED TOO SIMILAR!!!
Steve Blum FTW!
"👉 👆 💥 Bang."
26:18 MMX Sigma Stage 1 tune
2024 being an important year sure was the biggest unintentional foreshadowing for mvc LOL
You should include the competitive history behind each character too for each game.
This video have such a early 2010s vibe i love it
I know I'm late for writing this comment but if you had to replace one of the two wolverines with another marvel character who would have been?
I chose Jubilee because I think that the marvel side needs a teenage representative (I don't know if spiderman is an adult or a teenager).
Probably either Jubilee or Nightcrawler.
You know, Punisher was the first Marvel game Capcom did. So technically this was the start of the Marvel/Capcom relationship.
Yeah, The Punisher was technically the start of that partnership. The official MvC Complete Works artbook even acknowledges it as well; they feature material for the Punisher game in the same capacity they do for the fighting games.
@@TheSeventhForce I saw that! I was gonna buy it but lacked money at the time. And stealing is wrong.
Cris Redfield using blue and yellow color scheme against Wolverine in the danger room stage. I see what you did there hehe
Glad someone caught it lol
It would be cool if you always talked about what was the comic inspiration for the Capcom desing...
I know wolverine, you know wolverine; even my mom knows wolverine! And I'm not offended by that!😂
Ahh yes, Wolvie, I honestly don't have much to say tbh, I'm sure you can kinda notice a trend with me not having much on the X-Men characters and that's really just me not being into X-Men all that much, which isn't really new for me, I don't dislike them at all, they've just been a part of Marvel I've not been as invested in as much.
The music fades out for every X-Men's ending. It's not exclusive to Wolverine.
Ah I guess an earlier release doesn’t prove that it was developed earlier.
So I guess Black Panther is next? That or Dante, who might be a revisit... or not surprisingly.
Also I hope you keep calling out the composers in future videos.
All I'll say is that it'll be a Capcom character. And yeah, I plan on going more in detail with composer info going forward!
@@TheSeventhForce Ok! NICE!
I remember him for being voiced by Steve Blum in the animated series
Sometimes I call his Fatal Claw Attack Fatal Fury
38:04 when you brought up Jamie from megas xlr I was like yes my childhood
Wolverine 's stages in COTA and MSH are my favorites.
The Fatal Claw super is him dragging his adamantium claws against themselves to generate a spark (look at his taunt). I think you can find small examples in the comics but, you can really see it in the opening to the 90's cartoon towards the end: ruclips.net/video/sAkL2-vh2Sk/видео.html
You can also see his claws generate sparks when they hit hard objects in some of the Fox movies. If I had to guess, it has to due with adamantium being a vibranium alloy. Captain America's shield generated sparks when it was scratched by Black Panther (Civil War) and creates a shockwave when hit by Thor's hammer (Avengers 1, 2 and Endgame).
I hope he and the X-Men comeback in the next game after the blunder that was Infinite
7:59 Wolverine was really angry that day!!!
this need more views
All I can do is hope the RUclips algorithm works out in my favor 😅
@@TheSeventhForce yeah lol
The only character in every marvel vs game
The goat
Come on bub you are about to get cut
Coping that MVCI beyond will catch capcom's eye and they make it an official free update to the game and add the x men back in
Marrow next?
She'll be coming, eventually!
3:27 Ben Grimm and the Black Widow were there too!!!
