Definitely watching this after work. I'm disappointed in how dirty Megaman was done in MvC1 and MvC2...the dude had more than enough games at that point to give him a better moveset that goes beyond mostly generic punches and kicks
Yeah, I feel that. That was my opinion on him for the longest time, especially when you compare him to say, Smash, but over time I came to appreciate what they did with him in these games, even if they go into some odd territory. Hopefully I make my case well enough in the video when you're able to watch it! (I should probably get back to work too, my break's almost over lol)
@@TheSeventhForce I skimmed through the video and saw that there's a segment regarding how old anime inspired Megaman's MvC moveset...that's the first time I've heard of that but it's an interesting observation. I see what you're getting at. Reminds me of theories regarding how Captain Falcon from Smash was apparently inspired by Japanese Superheroes. It's sad to see how both Classic Megaman and Megaman X were done so dirty in the MvC series. Reminds me of how poorly Wario in Smash got treated
@@mersunarytigre I will never, ever understand why Smash basically pretended Wario Land doesn't exist. Wario finally getting the shoulder bash felt like crumbs considering the labors of love going on elsewhere on the roster.
@@TheSeventhForce The worst part is that Wario had his Shoulder Bash in his Smash debut. Ultimate made a big deal out of him having it as an apology for the move's removal in Smash 4.
You have no idea how happy I am that you uncovered the GOAT of Capcom himself. Mega Man truly is Capcom’s mascot for a reason next to Ryu and I’m glad you gave my boy the respect he deserves! Classic Mega Man, honestly deserved to return in a true MVC4 I’m especially happy that Smash 4 introduced me to Mega Man and he’s one of my favorite franchises since next to Mario, Sonic, and Pac-Man. He pretty much deserves to be considered legendary just like Mario, Sonic, and Pac-Man too.
I raised an eyebrow at smash 4 being anyone's introduction to Megaman but then i remembered mvc was MY introduction Megaman when I was little Timmy so it's all relatable still lol. Capcom's GOAT indeed, its very telling in a sea of characters where i only heard of spiderman and wolverine, the blue kid with a helmet and arm cannon is what caught 4 yr old me's attention the most.
I'd love to see him in another fighting game with some weapons from 9 through 11. It'd be interesting, considering 9 and 11 probably have the most versatile set of weapons in the classic series.
I appreciate this retrospective and analysis of this particular version of Mega Man. It's always had a special place in my heart as it's the one that introduced me to Mega Man. If it wasn't for MvC, I might have not even been into Mega Man, let alone known about him. Fun fact: The Rush Drill is actually a scrapped item in Mega Man III! That's probably where they got the idea, aside from the Casshan nod.
Another thing I love is how Mega Man is one of the few characters on the Capcom side with reading recommendations. That being the Archie comics. I think it would’ve been cool if you mentioned those but still you did a great video on Mega Man! He’s one of my favorite Capcom characters so I’m glad you talked about him.
I hadn't thought about it at the time, but after bringing the Archie MM comics up in my last video, I kinda wish I had put in a recommendation here, yeah.
Another great video. I still remember how lil me reacted seeing Mega Man in MVC1. I couldn't believe it. Not just him, but also Venom and Strider. It felt unreal. These videos always allow me to recapture those amazing times. Thank you.

I blame the first moment I say the Hyper MegaMan super as the moment I would love fighting games forever. Going to the Brazilian arcade, my team in MvC was always MegaMan and someone else, but the Blue Bomber would always be there. Great video, made me remember how much I love this version of the character! (:
17:45 Funny enough, we all thought Zero would be playable in Smash Ultimate but then it showed he is an Assist Trophy instead lol Looking back, I’m honestly relieved us Smash Players like myself were thankfully spared of the nightmare that would be a playable Zero in Smash Ultimate. Dude is broken in literally every game he’s in LMAO
I would have LOVED to have that broken Maverick Hunter as a second Mega Man representative. He would provided representation for two entire sub-series.
At 7:31, There's possibility about Hyper Megaman's Armor being a cameo for Grand Kaiser from also Capcom's Game: Tech Romancer. At 14:26, The Giant on Road is Mad-Grinder from Megaman 7.
Yeah, I get to Mad Grinder a little later in the video. And Grand Kaiser in Tech Romancer is itself a Mazinger send-up (probably the most obvious one in a Capcom game, honestly) so I think it's more a case of both things referencing the same thing instead of each other.
I always thought, if Mega Man does make it into another _Capcom VS_ game, they could take a similar approach to how he was in _Smash_ and have him use his Robot Master weapons as part of his Normal attacks as well as his Specials. For example; the Knight Crusher (Knight Man, _MM6)_ could work well for a Heavy Punch, the Charge Kick (Charge Man, _MM5)_ as part of his slide attack, and ones like the Flame Sword (Sword Man, _MM8)_ and Slash Claw (Slash Man, _MM7)_ as parts of his combos!
little thing i want to mention about megaman's mvc1 ending, it may have been mentioned before but the thing picked up before he got the "ability" is the thing you have to pick up to gain a new ability in the arcade games which i believe also leads to the same screen you see in the ending (probably not but... i remember something like it)
MvC2 literally made me obsessed with Mega Man as a kid, I had to know more about this cool robot guy. First I got Battle Network 3 which didn't seem exactly like what I had been looking for but I thought it was super interesting in its own right. Then I got Mega Man Zero 2 which has some guy called Zero in it and not Mega Man. Finally I saw Mega Man Anniversary Collection on the shelf one day and could finally understand lol
Maybe this is just me, but I've always preferred playing Mega-Man over X in the Marvel VS Capcom series. Mega-Man was who got me to stick around, and I far prefer his combos + buttons over X in Infinite.
Aye! So that’s what you meant by “sooner than you think!” Neat video on Classic MegaMan dude! I think it compliments the X and Zero videos pretty well! 👍
As much as I love both Marvel Vs Capcom and Kingdom Hearts am I the only one who is finds it weird seeing western characters like Captain America or Mickey meeting Japanese characters like Ryu or Final Fantasy.
Just a correction on the QCF+P move: Rock Ball, Tornado Hold, and Leaf Shield aren't tied to LP, MP, and HP buttons, respectively. Actually, the QCF+P move changes depending on the Weapon Item Megaman holds at the moment (QCB+K). Among these weapons, only Tornado Hold has an observable variation, particularly in the distance the weapon travels depending on the punch button pressed during the command input.
Also, Megaman's Japanese name "Rockman" is a reference to "rock-paper-scissors", which is essentially the main gameplay mechanic of his origin series. Moreover, most of their names in Japan are references to musical genres and terms: Rock 'n' Roll (Rockman/Megaman and Roll), Blues (Protoman), Rush, Beat, Tango, Forte (Bass), Gospel (Treble), among others.
Man, megaman was my main with spider man back in the day and his design is so iconic. I'm not really sure! There's definitely some I think would be neat like The Rescuers, but I think I need to see what angles they take with the Disney worlds first.
Coming back to this video after it appeared in my recommendations feels great. Regarding Megaman's moveset, the Item Change was just clunky. I get the concept (Eddie bringing Megaman items + Weapon Change) but they should've just given him a Super similar to Ryu's style change (Where he gains Ken's and Akuma's movesets) in which Megaman's moveset gets tweaked to use a specific pool of weapons from the games. Or they should've given him something that didn't have him chasing after the Item Get.
I waited to hear just one line about Tengu Man and that's all I needed. But yeah no I need classic Mega Man back with some new weapons from 9-11 and a double gear mechanic stat
