What is *your* favorite part about the Battle Network Legacy Collection, and is there anything you'd like to see improved in the event of a Starforce or Legends collection?
Buster Max is a life-saver. Can't imagine grinding styles in BN3 without it, as well as grinding anything in BN1 Patch cards are cool. Gallery is nice, though I wish there was also one for merchandise, like in XLC, but oh well. The fact that none of the errors in the script were changed is just baffling to me. SpoutMan was renamed back to AquaMan (thanks), so changing in-game script was possible. The preservation argument is weak here, since the collection could just give players a choice to play with og script, if they wanted. While just as everyone I disliked the new font at first, it grew on me rather quickly to the point where I'd prefer it over the pixelated one, but there obviously should've been an option for original one. But I still really love the collection. It's the reason I decided to give this series a shot and man did I sleep on it before.
Don't make the Legends games remakes, and just give us the original versions. I'm tired of Capcom completely ignoring their early 3D games. If you want to make remakes, sure, but keep the originals available.
Wish they used rollback netcode instead of delayed-base netcode for PvP. Because delayed-base netcode cause extreme input lag when you are too far from your opponents like people are on opposite side of the world. Its not even an issue of internet connection strength.
I really wish the PVP scene were more popular. I always wanted to do PVP as a kid and this is one of the few gba games that actually had a good multiplayer.
I sincerely appreciate the shoutout, ZRG! The suprise netcode patch was a welcome addition for PVP. Big agree with the need to "trim the fat" on public matchmaking settings.
I *do* wish they had a way to keep both games in *one* executable too. Even while I was gathering footage, needing to actively swap between volumes was a bit of a pain, though I imagine it wouldn't have been *as* big an issue if I wasn't insistent on getting the game for Switch.
Thank you so much for watching! It means the world that there are people out there willing to take the time to drop by and watch my work like this on a series I'm so passionate about!
Fingers crossed, mate. I'd imagine this one will have more of an uphill struggle due to not dropping in the hype of the release window, but this platform's batshit algorithm has done crazier things before, so we'll see.
Late to comment but: I think keeping the old games text is better than fixing em, seeing how these games were and how crunchy and, at times, really funny due to these errors/wild translations really keeps the charm. Them also keeping certain bugs n glitches while also fixing others is fine, gospel dupe doesnt really harm anything afterall. And keeping the virus encounter glitch in BN4 is great as it helps any speedrunner or anyone in that kinda group, not have to worry about looking for old copies since this collection exists and provides an easier way of perserving these games in all their janky glory.
This is a fantabulous video. Excellent quality. Will you be doing a review of each of the games in the collection? Would love to see more content like this.
Thank you for watching! It *is* my intention to cover every game in the collection, and I'd already been brainstorming points I wanted to focus on for each entry while I was working on this video.
As an artist who was 1st inspired by this series to start drawing as a child. Seeing that there is no Chip Art Gallery especially after seeing the amount of work they put into redrawing the art….. It Hurts.
I've never really talked about the idea (and I am sure I am not the only one who has had it) but I kind of assumed after seeing how they had boss rush and other modes in previous legacy collections that they would have made an advanced version of the basics (NCP programs, chips, maybe even game version) to where you wouldn't have to play through the story before jumping right into the multiplayer aspect. I have been taking my time playing through the last half of the series but it has been awesome having the region locked content fully available now
the battlechip artwork wasn't actually redrawn for the collection, it's borrowed from the art made for the physical battle chips made by takara! :) I'm unable to confirm it was available previously in artbooks or something though.
Over a year later, and I'm still obsessed with this collection. My complaints about it are basically the same as yours. The filter option being on by default, only having a few tracks from the Legacy Collection OST available to listen to, and not seeing the HD battlechip artwork during normal gameplay. At the very least, having that HD art could've been part of the "Filter ON" option, alongside the more generic dialogue text, while keeping the original pixelated text with "Filter OFF". Also, I think if you were aware of how bad the online matchmaking truly is, you would've had more than a few things to say. For example, matching up with random players is made significantly more difficult based on both of your ranks. I just tested this with someone, and it turns out that if you both have the EXACT same rank, you will match up immediately. However, if you're just ONE rank above or below the other player, you'll have to spam the search button about 10 times (more than 20 if you're unlucky). So, back when everyone had trouble finding players on Day 1, this was part of the reason, and not so much because there weren't any players. On top of that, if you are S-rank or higher, you're not allowed to match up with anyone who is A-rank or lower. You can only play private matches with them, so the whole ranking system for this collection looks nice on paper, but is actually total garbage that can easily be fixed. Edit: The matchmaking issue might actually have more to do with the players' region, location, or language setting because Japanese players match with each other very easily, regardless of their ranks.
Apparently the reason why the texts are like that is because it is hard to read it in Japanese without the intentional display. I could be wrong tho, but it makes a lot of sense why Japanese games don't even think about keeping the pixel text.
14:25 nothing grinds my gears like seeing THIS in a legacy collection of old fan favorite games! Ladies and gents, this is why groups like ESG and Sweet Baby Inc. Are becoming such a nuisance to game devs. They buy up stock in these companies just so they can put THIS "reminder" in your face no matter where you go. Capcom should do whatever they can to detach their grumpy butts from whatever they are attached to
@mgxzazfbyjuchrisclarkvpz236 Seriously man. This garbage really sickens me. I'm tired of being preached to as well. It's nothing more than a hate group trying to denigrate us gamers. It's frustrating how much power they have today
The translation issues beyond hurt this game the most. If people pvp to avoid the translation. Then they are screwed. And people got the game to see the games English script updated and fixed. Also got screwed. There is no defense for the English translation of these games. It's that bad, and 4 being the worse is just ... a legitimate franchise killer move. To me. Preservation can be kept.... by making this a setting. A setting to play on the original translation. But making a new and updated translation the default. This translation issues was a blatant suits decision. Thinking it would save money, and that people wouldn't care. When the opposite is extremely true. I have still yet to buy the game. Because I still haven't checked if there was a mod for it. Because no one is saying there is. I'm even less likely to buy this game for the next year. Let alone vol. 1 and 2 at once. A lot of bad choices still plague MMBN. To be honest. A lot of that care that is claimed to be there. Isn't being reflected as much as I think you think it is. (In my opinion.) Yes there is effort. But effort is not the same thing. I just wish corporate suits didn't meddle in this game like they did with everything else. And I get corporate meddling vibes from footage alone. (Mostly because of that pesky translation. Add pvp to that list.)

For legends, I want a new game plus and the ability to switch weapons without roll, as well as the legends 2 Japan demo with the unique missions

Its a crime that this is only has 700~ views. Great review!
Thank you for the kind words, and thank you for watching!
I just wish buying both would just combine the game lists on switch but I get it.
I *do* wish they had a way to keep both games in *one* executable too.

watching this 1 year later and all i can say is, what a very in depth review!
Great stuff!! Been loving your coverage on battle network. It's been a great time to be a fan of it! Thanks for all you do. Quality content for sure!
Thank you so much for watching!

@@-ZRG- I hope this video blows up like your last battle network video. You deserve more eyes on your channel!
Fingers crossed, mate.

I love playing it on my Switch, it’s so nostalgic reminding me of playing it on my Gameboy advance
Somebody had to say it, such a great series despite some parts being tedious.

We need the Zero.exe super boss to appear, in a battle network 7 game.

I'm going to be honest I don't really notice the text font in the last three games and maybe I'm just blind but I don't notice the filter either

That’s debatable,but I’ll look into this.

I did wonder if the redrawn battle chip artwork was hinting at a new MBN game. Doesn't seem like it's happening, tho.
Battle Network was the GBA king.
Gator the most powerful upgrade in battle network
I just want a command mission remaster and a star force collection!
The best review i have seen lol
No Sol Cross tho 😞

I'm so f'ing sick of this type of condescending garbage in gaming...the wokeness/sjw/dei crap is ruining many games
