Psst... Battle Network 6. Patch Card Section 2. Card 25.
Thank me later.
Yes!! 🌽🌽🌽
Wow man this was faster than I expected
I really like the first 3 videos of your Battle Network series review. It's how I was introduced to your channel in the first place. Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with it and no I don't see it as a nostalgia bias. Funny enough I rewatch your first Battle Network review the most out of the six.
I swear if this is an Amogus joke
🌽 🌽 🌽 🌽 🌽
Mega Man asking the player to sit back and relax while the BN4 boss theme kicks in sounds like a threat
He also gets surprised when you boot the game up late at night. It's like he's afraid we're turning into Lan ourselves.
@@UltimaKeyMaster he is taking care of us
To clarify, these are native ports to the PC like the X and Zero/ZX collections, no emulation occurring. However, the ROMs of the games _are_ there, mostly to be used as reference points; the game looks at the data on the rom and compares to the new visuals like button images or the new HD text and UI stuff for their replacement on the fly. It's to the point that modders are already looking in the game files and finding they can modify every text string in each individual game as they please, among other stuff.
I hear someone is going to create a mod in replacing mega man's model with mm zero because of a patch card that allows you to use sword based attacks
@@spazerabanekozeroshki I hope we use the Nexus mod page or some other dedicated mod page to archive all these types of mods. They would be really fun to use
As someone who was introduced to your channel through the Battle Network videos, this video really feels like we've come full circle. I'm glad I discovered your channel John, your videos have never failed to put a smile on my face. I look forward to seeing more content from you in the future :)
It's safe to say they got the message LOUD AND CLEAR since the capcom store in japan is sold out and apparently a lot of stores couldn't even handle the sheer amount of demand for the game to the point where download codes for the pre-orders ARE STILL not given or completely given to the people who paid for them.
It is weird to be reminded just how popular Battle network is compared to the other Megamen.
@@Klonoahedgehog To be fair, this is like the one Megaman series that actually got a serious marketing push which other Megamen never got to see this level. Especially in the west.
It is the second most popular part of the entire franchise, right after the OH Megaman himself
@@EeveeShadowBacon Which is surprising at times because it often doesn't feel like it but that could be because the overall overlap between the people buying the platformers and the rpgs aren't that big
@@Klonoahedgehog 20 years of inactivity will do that, but anyone who acted like the BN series was 'niche' or not nearly as popular as normal Megaman were deluding themselves - I'm sure normal Megaman is more popular but it's not by an order of magnitude like some people seemed to think
Legs go
No crossplay is still a hilarious irony flag after 'always connected' is the theme of the legacy collection. Still a buy since most people will play on PC or Switch.
Literally the only reason anyone will buy the PlayStation version is if they don't have a Switch/Gaming PC or if they *really really* want two 100+ hour Platinum trophies to grind for.
...I think at that point Capcom knowing crossplay is out the window is why they didn't even bother making an Xbox version like the other collections if crossplay-less multiplayer was a huge selling point of it.
Love that Andrew came back to voice our blue boi
Same here because in conjunction with watching the actual anime all over again since capcom was promoting it on RUclips, it's amazing to hear him back as megaman. EXE. And honestly to me and a friend of mine he will always be that version of Mega man.
For what it’s worth. I enjoyed your beginning videos of this series. I’ve been binging this series of reviews again and help me get through the workday.
I thought they were solid too, but I haven't gone back to check if they hold up.
@@227someguy I rewatched them recently once I finished their game in the collection, they hold up for the most part, John's humour has evolved a bit and his skill at & insights into the games are significantly better now of course but they're still funny and worth watching. The biggest thing I noticed is the severely reduced length of specifically the first 2 videos in comparison to the longer ones, leading to more being skipped over in them... and I mean, BN1 is just short as hell and John didn't play the postgame so obviously that video was gonna be short.
Never has a game released to so many “very obviously didn’t play the games but gonna review it anyway” reviews
Wait until he finds out that buster attack power stacks with buster max. Adding 100 points of damage with each additional level.
So 500 normally and then you have the fuckery that is style changes, souls, and beast out.
I was actually a part of the old multiplayer development team and seeing multiplayer be a thing here, alongside all those other quality of life changes really makes this an easy purchase from me.
Just a heads up, the legacy collection did a bit of a goof and it can softlock you in BN6. For those wondering, the Virus Battler side quest gives different rewards based on which region you play and the Japanese version gives you the Django chip on the fifth NPC battler. In the other versions, it's Super Vulcan. So if you plan on doing that, change the gamer version to JP before doing it so you can nab the Django chip. Otherwise you need to get it from someone else.
I didn't get caught in this one thankfully but the less-intrusive softlock of needing Anubis P from Graveyard 2 in order to complete the BBS jobs so that I could fight Protoman FZ for his EX and SP chips to get INTO Graveyard 2 was annoying. I just ended up using a patch card to get Protoman's chips but I really wanted to fight him to earn the chips myself to get into the area.
It thankfully has been patched!
Bless your cyber soul for this. Thank you.
I really appreciate the efforts
ALL those vids are good, don't you dare!
I'm calling bullshit. The older videos are 🔥.
Thank you for mentioning Capcom’s tendency to use these compilations as market research. New Mega Man is guaranteed because the original collections led to MM11, it has sold so well it’s getting a higher budget sequel (though leaked details have made fans kind of wary). The sales of this particular collection could revive MMBN.
I"m always wary of this reasoning. Often some fool will decide that means a greedy gacha game is the way to go.
@@jackbarnes4048 We are in a curious situation, Rockman Taisen smells almost like a mobile game but Capcom just tried a gacha game. I'm assuming X Dive didn't make the money they were looking for hence its cancellation. Could that mean Taisen is not a mobile game?
The weird QoL thing for me is they redid (not smooth filtered) all the sprite art for all the battle chips for the online trade menus, but the trade menus and collection swap menus are the only way to see that new art. I wish there were a toggle filter option in the games so the chips would have the new HD art. That's kinda my only extreme nitpick, otherwise it really is probably the best port collection that Capcom has put together for Megaman, and makes me really hopeful for a Legends/Dash collection.
You know what's weird about that art thing? This collection very very clearly can do that and it just doesn't. Want proof?
Look at the Cross Select menu in 6. Look at how *FUCKING CLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAN* those Navi faces are. How is THE REST OF THE CUSTOM SCREEN so good looking, but we don't get HD chip art without the new Comm menu?
They didnt redo them, these HD artworks have always existed at Capcom we just dont see them very often, they also exist in the Gamecube game.
@@Klonoahedgehog Half true. Most of them always existed, but some(like Woodman.EXE's battle chip) were lost or only made for GBA and so they had to redraw it in HD for this collection.
I'd even have them re-work the GBA sprites entirely on a higher pixel density basis, otherwise stay true to what it was. The text also wouldn't look that out of place then.
@@tiarabite A part of me hoped that we could get a variation of the Z Saber chip that featured an HD Artwork of Zero.EXE from Network Transmission
12:45 Jesus Christ I remember as a kid not understanding why that chip didn't work, so I just never used it.
The fact that I finally understand the Battle System of Battle Network now from this video after the whole video series had long concluded is hella bizarre..
2:31 You could even call Navis _Netscape Navigators_
...I'll get my coat
Wait they fixed the panic music???? That's the best change they've made!
I remember some wild glitches in old versions of VBA with this game including some enemies firing backwards lol.
Hopefully sales will encourage a part 3 of the collection to include a.ll of the missing games and/or ports of the DS remasters of 1 and 5
I miss having my megaman games. Owned the whole collection with them beat 100%, there counter parts and having and some how getting 3 black from a game spot! I lost so many memory's when I lost my storage unit
been waiting this. my homie knows his stuff.
Currently going through the collection on my switch and it's such a nostalgia trip. Having access to all the Japanese only content really makes it feel worth it to pay full price for the collection
You've came a long way
I'm very happy for "Leg's go!" to remain. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night had it's cheesy dialogue replaced by 'better' dialogue, but it was ultimately just blander stuff. It lost it's hammy charm. Sometimes, the bugs really are features, and when they don't interfere with gameplay, I'm happy for them to remain.
I personally don’t mind it staying although I wouldn’t be against a DLC pack with just a new Translation patch to retranslate everything for those who want it
@@Megamanlanprime you’re the only one who cares. They’re not doing dlc for one person
@@365DaysOfCristian I care too so that's 2 already, hehe. Like I get they're flaws that turn to memes, but I would love the games to see its full potential.
Would love if Capcom did this to the DS StarForce games... They kinda need some love too...
imo, the online features alone are more than enough to sell this game... Battle Network 6 PVP lovers gonna enjoy that by a lot
Leg's go, Lan!
The text replacement is the reason I picked this game up. It's so much easier to read on a large screen than the original pixel text. I don't mind the font but I also would have enjoyed an option.
Oh snap a new intro from anime John
I liked the panic music lol
The text boxes look like John edited them in
The only BN game I ever own and played was BN4 Blue Moon. I enjoyed my time with it but it’s BN 4 so this collection finally lets me experience the series in one package without going bankrupt.
Let’s go
I do wish they had an option to have classic pixelated fonts instead of only the smooth font. Pixelated fonts would've fit much better than the weird font they went with.
Also, the devs directly confirmed these are not ports, not emulations, not ROMs; the Legacy Collection is a true proper full source code recompile. That's why they were able to repair bugs, make minor changes, and restore all the Japan only content to all versions - they don't have the restrictions of GBA cart storage space or dev crunch time to meet release schedules with it.
My only gripe is that somebody had to redraw every chip in the series and the chips are only shown in HD IN THE TRADING MENU, if I use the smoothing filter the chips should absolutely be the HD redrawn ones.
I discovered your retrospectives last year and tbh they gave me a whole new appreciation for these games, and are the reason I even picked up this collection.
The thing about font is that... WHY. I mean they didn't bother to fix obvious graphical issues with for example BN1's spritework(like Megaman's pink face) but decided that adding a font that completely clashes with pixel artstyle was a good idea. Just...Why?
I can't say I like the "buttered" text, but I appreciate the exclusives. And now I want the Starforce series.
Hopefully we’ll get a StarForce collection I miss those games so much
I've battled two people from school (different grades and people) back when you needed a Link Cable to do so. This'll be great.
Yes chef, I already bought my copy of the legacy. Now all we need to do is to wait for star force
Thank heavens I'll still be able to saver my game
Yooo he did it!!!
This is crazy to me because I just recently discovered and binge watched all your reviews on the series which started almost 3 years ago and now we’re here. Love the channel and can’t wait to see the .hack and everything else. Awesome work!
I gotta give you props for condensing all of this into a tight 15 minute video!
geniuely what, I just watched your mega man battle network review series today, and now you uploaded this video, the timing lmao
I would like to also Echo that last point. Remember we would likely have never even gotten this if the sales for the X classic zero/zx and Mega Man 11 weren't at least decent and those wouldn't have even existed if not for the good sales of the original Mega Man Legacy Collection for the Nintendo 3DS. They've literally stated that the future of the franchise was riding on the sales of that ONE title. So this might not be your X9, Legends Legacy Collection or Star Force Legacy Collection but this one's sales may very well affect those as well.
I've been thinking on how well a Legends and Star Force collections would sell on their own and I get the feeling they might just put them together in one collection.
@@shagohad3 Why would they put them together?
There’s nothing these two series have in common. Zero & ZX makes sense Because the gameplay is very similar to one another and chronologically speaking there right next to each other and in ZX The zero series is referenced a lot. as well as the original games having connectivity with each other.
Star force and legends are like night and day difference With no Reasonable connection to one another.
Not trying to fight or anything I just wanna know how you came to your conclusion.
@@megametexe5129 Because I don't think you could sell either by itself on a disk or switch cart. Star Force, ignoring versions only has three games and Legends, unless you count Misadventures of Tron Bon, only has 2.
i like the whole series, but part 5 is where it all came together for me.
i’m praying they make another mmbn game or starforce
The megaman legacy collection games has been getting better with each release. I have the part 1 and 2 or the X series for PC, and even though it has some issues, its a pretty neat collection. I really appreciate that capcom is doing this collections + extra features and details. Even though they could be better, it dosent take the fact that these collections are overall well done! So yeah, if capcom seens these collections getting some nice sales we could posibly get future megaman games.
(Pls Capcom im been wanting for a X9 for more than a decade, its the only thing i ask of you)
Man I felt that towards the end of the video, “buy this collection otherwise you’ll end up like Darkstalkers”
I’m definitely picking it up along with Advance Wars Reboot Camp
My copy is on it's way here. I was pretty excited when I saw the first announcement and even though there is some things I wish were done with it (cough Translation errors cough) I am happy to see them make a collection for Battle Network. Plus it was cheaper to buy this than to try and buy a legit copy of BN1.
I had this preordered the second it was announced and I’m having a blast with it.
It wasn't delayed due to the pandemic. Eguchi said in an interview in Famitsu #1793 that development started in 2021.
It was originally planned to be announced in 2020. They even hinted at it for the 20th anniversary but had to say that it wasn’t ready to announce
@@Megamanlanprime It was going to be announced 1 year before development started? I don't understand.
@@MFMegaZeroX7 so during the 20th Anniversary of BN1 there was an interview mentioning they had a project they wanted to announce but couldn’t because it wasn’t ready yet. They were disappointed it wasn’t ready yet, but the team was still working on it
@@Megamanlanprime Yeah it was a project they had just barely started (MMBN1). Not a project that had been long in development.
Well, looking back, Capcom ALWAYS leave extra content behind.
X Collection didn't add the Maverick Hunter X from PSP to it.
Zero Collection didn't add the Zero Collection from DS to it (in that case I don't think there's a lot of changes either).
So I wasn't expecting them to give me Double Team DS, even if that is the deffinitive version of Battle NEtwork 5.
What I think is the bizarre omission is Battle Chip Challenge. That was not only also a GBA game, but it could've been some extra spinoff unlockable like Battle & Chase was in X or the arcade games in Anniversary.
...Also, Network Transmission. That's a little more understandable by comparison, but both those games are good.
Really hope we get starforce collection
PvP what shines in this game, and it's Hilarious seeing players who haven't build their deck and HP then rekt in PvP
Nice intro
We love the early videos John!
I love seeing Battle Network get some modern love. It may not be the most consistent series aroundbut it holds a dear place in my heart. Its got a couple games I love (2 and 3), couple I hate (4 and 5) and a couple I almost love (1 and 6).
No matter what anyone says, I love BN4 Blue Moon. It was my first BN game and I've played through the "story" more than 9 times XD
I have only played BN4 and BN6 though.
You had to mention Darkstalkers... I wanna cry now...
I mean I don't care much about star force all that much and my friend just told me that he forgot all about the DS remake of the very 1st game so I'm fine with that not being involved in this collection. I will say that it is bizarre to go through battle network 5 and not hear megaman say anything in that game but aside from that this is still a very solid collection and it definitely proves that capcom have been going above and beyond for this collection as much as they did. Was able to buy this on the switch day one and I've been enjoying my time going through battle network 3 blue and battle network 5 team colonel only because I never played it on the DS version. Will give the online a shot because I've heard so many fun stories surrounding it and the fact that there's actually A PVP circle surrounding it and still is surrounding it I think it'd be a fun time sink a little bit. Now all we need is a legends legacy collection after this one and we'll be set but soild review of this John! Also it needs to be said Andrew Francis will always be the voice for megaman. EXE.
Honestly, the only thing I really wanted them to do was give us the JP versions of BN6...and they actually delivered.
14:31 I feel personally attacked. How dare you be so right.
I'm having fun with this collection and it's given me a chance to play the only game I haven't in this series I do wish there was a map in them though I always get lost in the first game
It’d be crazy if we get a new battle network game on switch because of how popular this was. I just hope they stick with the pixelated art style rather than do 3D
BusterMAX does crank it by 100...TIMES Atk! ^_^
0:07 This is weird, I've reviewed stuff *years* after it came out and no one ever complained.
I can't wait to give the collection a go sometime next month. Glad to see your videos (most of them) did a great job covering the series to this fantastic release. I never got to own any of the games sadly but at least with the legacy collection it'll be much more convenient to own. I'll be picking it up on the Switch when the time comes for it. Thank you John for getting me interested in the series as well as showcase and introduce me to other games as well.
>Darkstalkers
Goddamit literally seconds before the end and you heartlessly tear open an old wound like nothing. The only thing worse would be bringing up the Legends 3 fiasco
TIL that the same guy who voiced Jaller from Bionicle and Vert Wheeler is the same guy who voiced MegaMan.EXE in an anime and now apparently the games technically.
*Mind blown.*
I think all your videos are good, John. Even the old ones. Actually, your BN2 video getting recommended to my feed about a week or two prior to your BN3 video releasing is how I found your channel
We need a properly fleshed out BN Mobile Game
My NetNavi AlgorithmMan.EXE said I should make a comment on your video, John. Thanks for the Battle Network video!
I remember being hyped for this collection so I could... y'know, play the game. And then promptly throwing my phone across the room while chatting with a fellow Battle Network fan over discord after discovering we don't get the physical version in Australia, which is why I threw my phone (My phone's a Nokia, it's perfectly fine) and I play games on a switch
I'm not going through eshop hell, it's $90 over here. Sure it's all 10 mainline games and it will get me hours of entertainment but I also have an ongoing debate about my switch anyway, sibling stuff. I'm not buying it until I have confirmation the switch will be mine and until I get a job
“Leg’s go, lan” and “ i’m on flames” are now solidified in history
Along with Buster Max mode, it'd be nice if they had an option to drop the encounter rate by half. Maybe even go as far as have another mode where the encounter rate is half, but you get double exp and zenny. Some Phantasy Star ports did this I think.
Ever since I got my switch a few years ago, I've been saying how I wish I could have the old Battle Network games on it.
This collection release is really a wish come true for me. I don't have a lot of memories playing these games, but the ones I do have are quite fond memories.
I'll be getting this. Maybe not super soon, because of personal budgets, but I will be getting this.
I actually didnt know that was how slasher worked! All the way back as a kid I couldnt for the life of me get it to work lol, that and Varislash, the one that requires inputs for the specific sword you want to use. Loved your series and all your megaman content!
Finally my switch can cob
thanks for this john! it really warms my heart to hear they took such good care of this legacy collection, as unfortunately often the "legacy" doesn't get done justice. hoping to pick it up during a sale sometime :)
From what ive read online, doing the virus breeder thing in bn6 (i dont remember what they call it, the thing where you collect viruses and fight mr progs with them) in English doesnt give you the Django chip that it does if you had it set to japanese.
Pretty weird thing to mess up as it basically softlocks your postgame progress unless you get someone to help you out with one or you get it from the Otenko trader.
Yeah I read that too. Thankfully I hadn't yet gotten around to finishing it when I found out so I did the entire virus battle sidequest in Japanese and got the chip.
I've been WAITING for this
Can’t wait to buy this
Funny enough the only reason I bought all the other legacy collection was so that they would see some interest in megaman (with the hopes of this being released).
"Brainlet Hikari and the little blue cellphone that could." 😂
10:18 ok so I’m a certified boss enthusiast so when I heard this I fuckin FLIPPED OUT!PLS TELL ME HOW!
So from the very moment this collection was announced I had every intention of buying it on release... Then Square dropped the FF Pixel Remasters for console to release less than a week after them and so now I'll be buying this game when I get paid at the end of the month instead.
My wallet is crying right now because of how many great games are coming out.
I almost got excited for the Pixel Remasters because Square actually listened to everyone going "OH GOD WE CAN'T MOD THE SHITTY FONT OUT OF THE CONSOLE PORTS" so we got brand-new fonts that actually work just fine.
...And then they kept that horrid pricing scheme where the entire collection is nearly 80 bucks and I went "NOPE." And those games never go for collectively more than 20% off grand total even on Steam, so the only one I ended up looking at was 3 being so different from any other version.
I still have bn 1,2 and 3 on cartridge. So I'm excited to play the rest.
An idea to fix bn4: redo the tournament system so you're guaranteed to fight both soul navis and another unique opponent. Upgrade the viruses in the net once you reach certain points. Now you can get it all in 1 playthrough
Ah yes one step closer to the Zero 3 video.
No for real though your channel is one of the best I've ever encountered
You didn't need to bring up Dark Stalkers. I'm still coping.
"You don't wanna end up like Darkstalkers do you."
I mean, to be fair I was playing that game more or less weekly at my local arcade around 2018 or so.....the problem is, only my local arcade saw that cash and not Capcom.
Just putting it here for visibility, because I had to reset my save file :'D the virus battler in BN6, beat the final one only on japanese, you get locked out of Django V3 (unless you wanna grind ranked PVP, or compare libraries with someone nice enough to actually have Django) otherwise you still get the supervulcan chip instead when you beat it on english, which is a really stupid bug, but one that can lock you out of graveyard 2 if you don't want to interact with other players.
i do wish some if the random spin offs were included
