three important things, one, dark chips are NOT infinite, you will run out in a battle as you only have 10 of them to use in bn4, two, dark vulcan is treated as a megachip, so beat will steal it, and three, and very important, do NOT move up and down quicky in the backrow against a dark megaman enemy, for the dark lance can and will multi hit you for 999 twice
Nice lol it’s just funny how mmbn4 in Legacy collection lacks the item patch cards I have at home in the sequels so I can get early unlocker/sneakrun to make them better. Thanks for stating the 1 good one, 7:05 ton of digging. The bugs are crazy lol.
I thought they said that Lance did the max HP of the enemy with the most HP dividied by two? ...Then again I guess he didn't say that it was capped to 500 like Dark Sword...
Dark Chips were kind of hinted at in BN3 with Evil Giga Chips like Dark Aura, Serenade and the Bass chips, which could only be used if there was a Dark Hole on the field or you had Dark License installed.
@@NetBattler It's not necessarily that they had planned BN4 at that point. It could be that, when BN4 was in development, they simply decided to expand on a random mechanic that was introduced in the previous game. The same actually happened to Full Synchro, as it was actually introduced in BN3, just not as a game mechanic but as part of the plot in the last parts of the game.

Dark Chip video! I need MORE DARK CHIPS!!! AHH!!! Even as a kid, the allegory of Dark Chips as drugs fascinates me. Unlike real drugs though, these nasty customers actually have some punch behind them to try to appeal and tempt folks to use them. Of course the balance of these chips are heavily skew'd against them sadly, so that it's generally better to not use them. Even though I'm a bit sad that they didn't completely reappear in BN6 in their original state, they still live on in some capacity in spirit as a consolation (Looks at Dark Thunder and Bug Death Thunder.).
If you wanna play with Dark Mega Man in multiplayer, play Red Sun, you can do more things in it as you get two Gigas that pair well together and with being evil. So yeah, you can screw around and do Giga+1.
I'd say that Dark Soul training video would be neat. I've seen it get pretty ridiculous, pretty much autopiloting the final boss of BN5. Plus it's always good to have more easily accessible documentation on little known MMBN cheese strats.
Considering how Chaos Unison works in BN5 it really seems foolish to use dark chips at all in either BN4 of BN5. The permanent loss of hp, even if it was only 1 point, always deterred me from using dark chips. I feel like the anime did a great job showing how nasty the effects were on a navi.
That's kind of the point. Dark Chips offer a quick solutions to you when your at your weakest. This is the only game where taking the easy solution now will screw you over later
Funny thing is, even like karma players want to use exactly *one* Dark Chip In order to make their tens and ones digit of their HP 99. This makes it extremely easy to use the number ball battle chips to their maximum Damage potential
The funny thing about Dark Chips is that they seem to ONLY be useful in PVP. In the main game, if you're using Dark Chips, you're stuck against the final boss as he won't let you use ANY of the evil chips (or is it just the dark chips? either way he gimps your set up, the question is just by how much). PVP though? a LOT of those chips can be drastically more useful and the Dark Soul state allows you to barrel through the Light/Good chips your opponent can throw out. Especially because since the buster and folder become kinda useless, using nothing but Max HP parts is a lot more of a viable strategy.
I would be completely fine with Dark Chips if they didn't reduce your max health for each use, or at least have a way to recover it either in post game, or at the start of new game plus.
Be neat if the dark soul fight got stronger for each dark chip you used but you got all of your health back for beating it. Ya know, beat the darkness and all that

As this is Battle Network Academy, all things related to battle mechanics in the games are worthy of a video. But don't push yourself, make sure to take your time.
That doesn’t count thankfully. But anytime after that, using dark chips will cost you greatly. They’re mainly useful the most in PvP, but you’ll have to use enough dark chips to become DarkMega.
Don't really get why they had to do the permant HP loss too. Most players, even as kids probably would avoid using them not to screw up their save file
I ruined my save as a kid using these. A combination of not bothering to get every single HP memory and constant dark chip usage left me at 1hp permanently with no good chips to use against the final boss.
Dark chips are an allegory to drugs. Meth gives you an insane high, at the cost of your very health. Dark chips are very much the same, a ridiculously powerful attack at the cost of 1hp permanently. The more you use, the worse off you get.
I never dabbled with Dark Chips when I played through Megaman Battle Network 4: Blue Moon. The only point in the game where you have to use a Dark Chip at all is when you fight Shademan, who has taken over the Vampire Toy Robo.
While watching I had the thought that dark chips could be a fun way to make a NG+ in BN4 feel a bit different from normal ...but the fact that HP loss *carries* into NG+ is kinda stupid. Completely discourages using them lol I guess it does help tell the story of "Hey I used dark chips once and now you can see that," but in a game with so many mandatory repeated playthroughs... yeaaaah.
Even if you are using a light karma megaman, You should absolutely use Exactly one dark chip. This will Set your maximum HP (without Navicust) to 999, Which means so long as you only use HP+x00 navicust programs, the "Number-ball" battlechip series will typically do 99 damage per ball assuming you don't get hit.
The only dark chip you’re forced to use is DarkSword when fighting Shademan in the ToyRoboComp. It’s the only thing that can damage him. Other than that, using dark chips will come at a hefty cost.

Not sure if the ai is capable of copying these and using them against you though.
so is the minus 1 HP nerf only in regular gameplay or does it affect you in vs players mode too? As in if I use a dark chip online, the -1 hp will apply?
Regarding the dark mega state, if I would run it for pvp, does this make Undershirt irrelevant for the build in a way that I would not have to install it.
Nah, Undershirt is still pretty useful. Pairing that with the Berserk state you have like two safety nets before you die for good. If you would die in battle Undershirt activates first and if you get hit at 1 HP the Berserk state will trigger.
Oh the minimum hp you can have is 501? that isn't as bad as I thought. I remember it could go down to 1, but if thats just a BN4 new game plus bug, then yeah. 501 is perfectly usable for dark mega strats.
I think it’s actually better to have 999HP, mainly for the Numberball chips. That way, you can deal 3-5 hits for 99 damage (198 in full synchro or angry.)
That was in BN3. It’s called DarkLicense. It lets you use Bass+/Bass and DarkAura/Serenade without having to use a hole chip and waiting for it to open. To get DarkLicense, you need to get and max out the Bugstyle. It should be obvious how to get the Bugstyle. The clue’s in the name really.
