@@RedLir_Live It is indeed peculiar and could simply be a temporary fix while waiting on a bespoke rocket turret. The previous Harbinger had those same S3 rocket pods but they were forced onto the hardpoint and once removed they could not be placed back. So it looks like instead of spending time on making a bespoke S2 rocket launcher; CIG decided to take the easy way out for now and simply increase the hardpoint from S2 to S3. I think what is 'best' is going to really depend on what each person wants out of the Vanguard series. Maybe the real answer is the buy one hull and all the BUK center modules when they finally put them in!

With the new importance of bunker missions and small strike teams, the Hoplite has become considerably more appealing to me. No longer the runt of the litter.
Originally I had planned to just get a Hoplite and then get my Sentinel and Harbinger BUKs out of BuyBack because CIG announced that the Hoplite would now also have a modular middle section due to the rework where CIG used the Hoplite as a base from which to recreate the Vanguard variants and give them more of that shark shape instead of the initial release that looked more like a whale. Prior to that the Hoplite was the only hull-locked variant; which was also why the price was lower than the Warden. Now however, Hoplite owners will be able to swap out that middle section (once modularity comes online ofcourse). Now I said that I originally planned for a Hoplite but thanks to some discounted Warbond CCUs I was able to chain a Harbinger together instead for less money than I would have had to spend on a Hoplite (my Harbinger with LTI only cost me $145). So now all I need is to get the Sentinel BUK out of BuyBack at some point; provided that the Sentinel will still prove to be interesting once CIG has finalized the ship and made the ships modular (the Sentinel was never meant to have that EMP generator and it also has no physical space for one anywhere on the ship). 🙂
Never was a fan of this ship, simply because I’m not primarily interested in SC for a heavy PVP. But after this video I have reconsidered my interests and a new deep respect for this ship, thanks for this interestingly Informative video
Nice & comprehensive review of the Vanguard series; prefer the Sentinel with BUKs - the new size 5 AD5B ballistic gun is what I like to mount on any Vanguard
It would be interesting if they went the other way and made the Size 2s all bespoke gimballed so you couldn't put size 3's on but it would better match the stock nose.
Been thinking about buying one for solo ERTs. Used to do those with the Aquila loaner without issues but I've heard Vanguard being the crowd favorite for those. Also really like the looks! Thanks for another really compact and informative video :)
I picked up a Warden today after being disappointed by the Ares Inferno for both PVE and occasional PVP(have light fighters mainly for that purpose). I fell in love with it immediately. I bought all A-grade military ship components and swapped out the ballistic gattling size 4 for another, still-gimbled Rhino repeater and 4x size 2 GVSR repeaters. This thing slaps! I love it. Buy it. Now!
Is still available, you can buy a legionnaire for just $100 and get a hoplite as a loner. The EMP on the Sentinel is just a placeholder. The Wardens pop afterwards speed is about 100 meters per second faster than the other variants. The Harbinger has a size 3 turret whereas the other variants have a size two turret
I love the vanguard series. I’ve recently pledged for the sentinel after having the Warden purchased in game. My only issues with it is bed logging. After logging back in I’m clipped through the ship. Sometimes I can easily walk straight to the pilots seat while clipping through the ship. Other times it’s extremely difficult to walk to the seat. Resulting in a backspace re-spawn.
We had an org event recently and I was doing the filming in a Pisces which ended up getting used several times as a taxi ferrying orgmates to and from various ships and vehicles. I got to thinking that the Hoplite would be very handy in the taxi role in this instance with the added benefits of a decent loadout. Cheers fir the video.
Oh you might be on to something, decent loadout, decent armor, great quantum speed and range, decent hydrogen. It´s the Pyro-Taxi with inter-planetary capability.
the sentinel is great. but its paint job succs so bad. i keep thinking its some kind of fallout 4 plane with all of that gaudy retro-blue in both the exterior and interior of the ship...
@@chloekaftan Yeah, its paint is a little loud considering its stealth load-out. I think there’s an Invictus paint that’s a more subtle blue, so I’ll be getting that too.
As someone who's owned a harbinger, and now has settled on a sentinel, There's nothing like knowing you have those torpedo's in your torpedo bay so you can just make what's in front of you disappear. However, the sentinel is a little more comfy for my playstyle, and if I can disable ships that decide to attack with some friends, well, free scrap and components for me, hopefully. But to be honest, I love the original 3, they all hold a special place in my heart, a size 5 ship gun shaped hole with beds.
I begged Ben Lesnick to put the BUK's back on sale for a while and managed to grab some the last time they did. ( I think it was Valentines 2017?). I own the Harbinger, but have BUK's to both the Sentinel and Warden... I wonder if they'll ever let me fly all three without owning all three lol!
@@RedLir_Live In all honesty, I hope they're offered as something to obtain in-game, perhaps hidden somewhere, or randomly spawned in specific locations. Treasure hunt for the BUK's!
I love my Warden. I have been tempted to swap ot for a Sentinel. But there's not much of a differencr between them aside from 2m/s SCM speed difference, slightly higher top speed(Warden) and a bit more hull HP. I basically just don't have an EMP. Not sure how useful that is so maybe you can tell me.
@@buzzfightbeer8023 Honestly, main reason I stuck with a Sentinel is due to the EMP, I've decided I was going to be more of a salvager than a fighter, got myself 2 EMP ships for the task and plenty of means to strip down ships onto my liberator. Sentinel is a great ship if you need support in those means, or you're looking to disable a ship without damaging it so much, but if you don't care about that, keep that Warden or go up to a harbinger if you want to disregard the safety of the escape pod and just like seeing ships go boom. Ewar will be curious, but its not fully implemented, assuming it will be more of a "disable ships without doing too much damage to them" type of playstyle at the end of the day. Which, I'm all for. TL:DR If you got a good crew and some friends to work with that need ships disabled, Sentinel is the way to go, but if you're just solo, maybe might have another friend with you, and you want more safety or destruction, Warden or Harbinger can't do anyone wrong.
@@buzzfightbeer8023 EMP is somewhat of a moving target as distortion isn't really in its final resting place. Some patches it's been nuts, some not so.
Warden is my favorite. If I want torps I'll use a bomber. Emps are gimmicky when you introduced skilled pilots. The Warden with its massive hull HP gives the skilled pilot time to tank and destroy multiple targets in quick succession. Often leaving 1v3 situations with minimal to moderate damage depending on how sweaty the opposing forces are.
I wouldn't... Get a Taurus in addition to your Gladius... You can ALWAYS use a Gladius and you can ALWAYS use a Taurus! Best part: Price should be similar and you can do way more stuff, like trading and eeeeeeeeeasy ERT missions...
@@Ryecrash617 If you're going for looks exclusively, no amount of sound arguments will make any difference anyway... But as long as your happy with your purchase, that's the main thing!
Sentinel for me. I’ve got one in my hanger and love the EMP. I normally swap out the distortion weapons for more laser repeaters to keep the ranges and pips closer.
Don't get too accustomed to the EMP generator though, as it was never meant to have it. Instead it was supposed to get an external e-War pod, decoy missiles, and a set of EMP charges. However, because CIG didn't have any of that yet they simply gave it a S4 EMP generator; similar in effectiveness to the Avenger Warlock. However, we can see that there is no internal space for this device anywhere on the ship. 🙂
@@DanakarEndeel yes I knew that when I got it but I now like it and will be sad to see it go. But as I started with this game over 6 years ago and they are now focusing on important things like bed sheet physics I might be dead by the time they remove it. 😀
@@neilmanson7266 Heh, true. It's pretty ridiculous how they are now focusing on trivial stuff like bedsheet deformation. Just finish the actual game first and THEN give us the bedsheet deformation and other silly stuff.
I think as the 4 front guns are fixed you may as well have the underslung fixed to size 5 ? :) thanks for the breakdown on each Vanguard it does help to know which one does what :)
Well, they are all slated for modularity so it's all what combo you want. The Harbinger has the most armour so that one combined with the base survival pod would make for a pure survival ship.
Originally the Vanguard was concept-ed as being able to fulfill all the roles that its variants now fill but in a single ship. Then they made the decision not to do that and their form of apology was the battlefield upgrade kits (BUKs) that came at an additional cost on top of the base warden that people got. This was both a sour and happy note for me; sour because I had to pledge even more for getting what was additionally advertised, and happy because the BUKs also came with LTI insurance which meant that the additional loadouts would always be covered by insurance (essentially it was getting LTI on swap-able componentry!)
I have the Warden and love it. It is very good in PVP as well. The only scary opponent is a Hurricane with a very good pilot and a gunner on its Turret. Gladius and Arrow can not come too close as a few hits can destroy them and their weapons and you just need to avoid being in a bubble with them for too long.
I usually stay out of range until i see an opening to get in close / behind and then every Vanguard is dommed ( if solo ) because i just stay behind its arse until it goes boom. But i admit its tricky against a good Vanguard pilot and even more if he has a gunner.
Id love to daily drive a Warden one day if/when I can fully customize the stuff inside the ship. For example, Id love to swap out the turret into some sort of long-range scanner and use the Warden for exploration or something like that. Also god I wish I can change the ship voice to something else cause I cant take that overly stern bootcamp sergeant yelling in my face "Contact!" and "Kill!" everytime I'm in combat. Just a personal peeve of mine lol
There is differents hardpoint like utility point to mount longe range scanner and weapons point to mount turrets, you won't be able to do what you plan as hardpoints aren't swappable but that would be a good idea. The warden was described as longe range patrol because it should have a big radar, we will see
We need missions (perhaps a space station PvE dungeon thing?) with limited landing space as to better justify Dropships. In a game where everyone can have their own ship with near unlimited room to land, it's kinda hard to justify dropships as their own class. Well, that or they can introduce drop-pods that makes dropping soldiers double as a mini-bombing run directly on target
Harbringer has more and larger missiles with the only variant that has a dual size 3 turret on top - rest have dual size 2 turret on top. Armor still does not exist. Sentinel is the squishiest but has an EMP. E warfare still does not exist. Warden is the most agile but difference is negligible. Hoplight is the weakest version with no outstanding features over the others. There. Now you have useful info to make a decision.
I'm currently struggling on which one to own n i only have enough money to outfit one of em.. Which one will be better for dogfighting n has a better roll/pitch?
The good new is that eventually you can just pick the default pain you like and grab any BUK kits in game for other variants you want to swap out to. Hard to say how long that will actually be though. The sentinel can be really strong with it's EMP though!
@@RedLir_Live That is true, I might just pick up a Hoplite as well, cause I got extra store credit, since the Hoplite is honestly my favorite dropship. Have my Javelin enter a system. Deploy a Hoplite to do some missions while the Javelin does other things. But theres also the fact that the Redeemer looks like it can still squeeze into the Hangar in the Javelin. Looked at it during the Xenothreat event and it pretty much fit the hangar just barely.
Before the Ares came out, the Harbinger was planned to be my big-ship killer. I might get ot back some day, but for now, the Ion has taken it's place in my hangar. Is it true the Harb has bigger turret guns now?
Warden, to my knowledge, it's nose cannons are exclusive to that ship. They travel 700m/s most of your size 5 weapons travel that speed. Laser cannon, repeater, or AD5B. Warden is best heavy fighter. Also has heaviest armor
The Vanguard line of ships I believe is among the best overall. Every single variant fulfills a niche in the currently present combat-focused gameplay loops. FPS? Bring a Hoplite. Bounties? Sentinel or Harbringer depending if you need your mark in one piece or many small ones. Want to just roam around, see what you find? Warden. Not a single choice is the bad one, there's just some weirdness regarding stat differences, one being inexplicably tankier and another is heavier despite seemingly carrying the least hardware. It may not be the best option if you're playing solo, but neither really is Star Citizen as a whole.
The hoplites rear ramp makes it entirely useless in a combat as a dropship. The other variants are excellent however the warden doesn't make sense any long range ship operating away from general support Surely has a robust pack on board, to fix the hoplites it would need to have a wider arse with a ramp like the redeemer with more area given to the airlock to allow troops to disembark, engage without delay whilst not decompressing the crew. Its current configuration is basically a well armed shuttle that cannot deliver it's personnel under anything less than perfect conditions. The harbinger makes perfect sense as a long-range mini torpedo ship the sentinel also makes a great deal of sense in its concept and I really hope we see truer e-warfare coming through to Star citizen, I'd love to see a capability like projecting false radar signatures or potentially hacking enemy systems etc However I would have preferred the retracting remoteturret seen at whitebox, the current one really breaks some of the beautiful lines and looks more WW2 than space age
Thanks for this work ! I have a Gladius for the first bounties missions, and I hesitate for the following ones between a Sabre and a Vanguard Sentinel or even a Glaive... which one would you recommend?
Out of those 3 the Sentinel is probably the tankier option, also much better travel times distances with it's large fuel tank and adding a military drive.
@@RedLir_Live Many thanks ;) i followed your advice and upgrade it to a Warden, should i'll have a significant boost to upgrade it tp a Sentinel now ? I do HRT for the moment, with successes.
If you're going after smaller ships, the Warden is going to be more maneuverable. The harbinger is tankier but less maneuverable, and has some extra size 5 torps and larger turret hardpoints that can help with bigger targets.
I have a Sentinel but my very average piloting skills prevent me from making good use of the EMP, I dislike the stock exterior paint, and the useless E-warfare panel intrudes into the cabin. My long time favourite has always been the Harbinger as I prefer the aesthetics, the future potential of heavy armour, dual size 3 turret, and size 5 missiles that will probably serve me better than the EMP I suck at using. I am giving serious thought to a Sentinel to Harbinger CCU upgrade during Invictus. My heart wants the Harbinger, but my brain is telling me to stick with the Sentinel. Tough choice.
Ive rented the warden and my only gripes are ballistic guns and thats only because it has no freaking ammo come on guys give us reloads just give it a ridiculously long cooldown.
@8:23 The Hoplite has been considered a "variant" and so can swap modules/use BUKs along with the rest since they reworked them in 2019 (they basically gave all the Vanguards the Hoplite's bigger/better ramp). ruclips.net/video/vKvI_eDpOgg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/vGQpP5kdBck/видео.html
Don’t forget that the Sentinel l’s EMP is only temporary, only until it gets its EMP missiles. That said, thanks for another great ship video. Also for the great 4K content. If you can ever steal a F8, that’d make for a great video as well. Doing the bounty missions and etc. with it.👍🏿🇺🇦
I think the Sentinel would be awesome for live capture bounty hunting if that ever becomes a thing. Use the scanning to find your target, disable the ship with EMP and distortion, go grab the baddie. If they let mods, maybe you could even fit it with a holding cell.
the harbinger was really good in 3.13, unfortunately the whole vanguard lineup is kinda meh since they decided "they don't want metas" and made all weapons the same....
The S4/S5 nosegun just ruins the looks imo, Gimme 6-8 S3`s in the nose area instead. also im sad to see the turret aint retracting into the hull when not in use, as the concept did
Hoplite/Warden are the best cause you can CCU to other ships and will be able to change interiors to E-War suite and Torpedoes. Sentinel/Harbinger are bad choices cause they are too expensive, severely limiting CCU options.
@@Baltazar009 Sigh... I'm talking real money, not in game money. Before calling other people liars, check your knowledge. Do you even know what a CCU is? If you did, you wouldn't be looking like a fool right now.
I'm not sure if they changed it, but the last time I checked, it's guns were only available by purchasing the ship even if you wanted to use them other Vanguards. I'm not sure why they weren't put in game for purchase.
With it's crippling nerf to agility, I really don't see the point in owning these at this point in time. I'll CCU my Warden into a Retaliator Bomber. Currently these really don't do anything better than other ships... PVP? Any agile fighter (Arrow, Gladius, Karthual) will SMOKE you, often without you being able to even hit them in return... PVE? Any Constellation will outclass this massively with it's bigger shields and bigger guns... Unless you are a massive whale with tons of other ships, or you just looooooove the looks for some reason, I'd give these a definitive pass right now...
@@manbok2035 If anything, your comment only proves you have no idea what you are talking about and are a low skill PVP pilot and didn't face skilled opposition yet... But no worries, nothing says you can't improve! Just practice, buddy!
You guys and girls don’t leave that weak ass size 4 Gatling gun on the nose switch it out for the AD5P Gatling gun you won’t be sorry! The size 5 gat has over 2400 rounds and if you’re good enough at picking your shots you can bring through pretty much every ship in the game with it in under a minute! I normally buy the harbinger and replace everything on the nose with laser versions except the gat and I upgrade shields and power plant and coolers only. The stock q drive is too fast and gets me everywhere I wanna go!

It would be interesting if they went the other way and made the Size 2s all bespoke gimballed so you couldn't put size 3's on but it would better match the stock nose.
thank you VERY much for this video! Really helpful (specially the specialist gun breakdown)
Been thinking about buying one for solo ERTs. Used to do those with the Aquila loaner without issues but I've heard Vanguard being the crowd favorite for those. Also really like the looks! Thanks for another really compact and informative video :)
I'm still wondering how the shield changes are going to hold up this patch. My beloved Banu Defender took a hit too!
I love it. Buy it. Now!
Get a Conny Taurus... Does ERTs WAY easier while being cheaper AND having way more use cases...
@@mcbrite pretty much the same with Aquila especially if soloing so no real need to change. Planned to upgrade my Freelancer MAX pledge to Taurus tho
Lovely shots, nice review all around. :)
Thanks a ton!
Is still available, you can buy a legionnaire for just $100 and get a hoplite as a loner.
The EMP on the Sentinel is just a placeholder.
The Wardens pop afterwards speed is about 100 meters per second faster than the other variants.
The Harbinger has a size 3 turret whereas the other variants have a size two turret
it wont keep the EMP?
I love the vanguard series. I’ve recently pledged for the sentinel after having the Warden purchased in game.
My only issues with it is bed logging. After logging back in I’m clipped through the ship. Sometimes I can easily walk straight to the pilots seat while clipping through the ship. Other times it’s extremely difficult to walk to the seat. Resulting in a backspace re-spawn.
When this happens make it to the turret seat and get in. This will reset the issue back to normal.
More great stuff my friend 👍🏽
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the Sentinel, and I'll probably get one at my first ILW in a couple of weeks along with a few other ships.
the sentinel is great. but its paint job succs so bad. i keep thinking its some kind of fallout 4 plane with all of that gaudy retro-blue in both the exterior and interior of the ship...
TL:DR
If you got a good crew and some friends to work with that need ships disabled, Sentinel is the way to go, but if you're just solo, maybe might have another friend with you, and you want more safety or destruction, Warden or Harbinger can't do anyone wrong.
Nice one !!! i love aegis, and my favorite ship is the sabre !!!
Harbinger.
Thank you for your attention.
I plan on upgrading my Gladius to a Sentinel this Invictus. I had one previously that I bought with aUEC before the wipe.
I wouldn't... Get a Taurus in addition to your Gladius... You can ALWAYS use a Gladius and you can ALWAYS use a Taurus! Best part: Price should be similar and you can do way more stuff, like trading and eeeeeeeeeasy ERT missions...
@@mcbrite I severely dislike the Connies (looks and layout primarily). I picked up the Sentinel and am very happy with it. I thank you for your input.
@@Ryecrash617 If you're going for looks exclusively, no amount of sound arguments will make any difference anyway... But as long as your happy with your purchase, that's the main thing!
Excellent video! I really appreciate the breakdown, and I've now decided this is the ship I need in my life. Thanks RedLir🤘🏼
Glad you liked it!
Underrated content!
Thank you!
More ship reviews man. Loving them.
Argo Cargo next?
i never change my harbinger is a beast ... Even I have a lot of fighter planes ... Harbinger is my main plane
this ship has been my wallpaper for almost 10 years now
Great vid. thx Red
Glad you enjoyed it
Sentinel for me. I’ve got one in my hanger and love the EMP. I normally swap out the distortion weapons for more laser repeaters to keep the ranges and pips closer.
It's a great ship!
thanks for the breakdown on each Vanguard it does help to know which one does what :)
Remember when we could mount the Carrack turret to the front!
This was both a sour and happy note for me; sour because I had to pledge even more for getting what was additionally advertised, and happy because the BUKs also came with LTI insurance which meant that the additional loadouts would always be covered by insurance (essentially it was getting LTI on swap-able componentry!)
wow. quality vid. keep it up.
Thanks, Korey!
Awesome ship, I just hate the way the tail portion and the landing gear looks. The Harbringer is my favorite variant.
Yah, Crabby Carl I could do without. A good Bitchin Betty option would be good
There is differents hardpoint like utility point to mount longe range scanner and weapons point to mount turrets, you won't be able to do what you plan as hardpoints aren't swappable but that would be a good idea.
I picked up a Warden for my Javelin. I might upgrade it to a Sentinel.
Wow. I did not know that the Cutlass was also in the Vanguard Force arcade game.
It looks massive too!
Before the Ares came out, the Harbinger was planned to be my big-ship killer. I might get ot back some day, but for now, the Ion has taken it's place in my hangar.
Is it true the Harb has bigger turret guns now?
yes
Warden or sentinel both freaking awesome as i have both
Little known fact: In the Netherlands, this ship is known as the Van van der Guard. #factoid
great video!
Thanks!
Love the Vanguards
They're great ships!
It'll be even more used when Pyro and Nyx come in. Also how is a youtuber this small having such good quality vids?
Camping at the gates of Pyro SOONtm! This channel is flying under the radar. I'll try to keep the quality to a minimum! Cheers!
the hopilite allows for well protected as opposed to fast exit. and recovery. at least from my thinking
Warden, to my knowledge, it's nose cannons are exclusive to that ship. They travel 700m/s most of your size 5 weapons travel that speed. Laser cannon, repeater, or AD5B. Warden is best heavy fighter. Also has heaviest armor
No, you can buy the Warden cannons (MVSA) at Cousin Crow's on Orison.
in fact all variants are close to the same
There no buy option for me when I check RBI I’n the website or can u not buy with IRL money
Certain ships are only available for IRL money at specific times of the year like the IAE event that just passed or the anniversary sale in November.
@@RedLir_Live ok thanks you
The Vanguard line of ships I believe is among the best overall.
The harbinger makes perfect sense as a long-range mini torpedo ship the sentinel also makes a great deal of sense in its concept and I really hope we see truer e-warfare coming through to Star citizen, I'd love to see a capability like projecting false radar signatures or potentially hacking enemy systems etc
However I would have preferred the retracting remoteturret seen at whitebox, the current one really breaks some of the beautiful lines and looks more WW2 than space age
Great video btw, very tidy, informative and well formatted
Thanks!
I do HRT for the moment, with successes.
can i buy a black paint for the Vanguard somewhere in game ??
Not to my knowledge. I believe the Warden just looked black in a couple of shots because of the shaders on the moon.
The most interesting is probably the sentinel, but as it stands the warden is the best by a large margin
where to find the arcade game?
whats that black and grey paint ?
It's the stock skin. It's just the shading of the moon I was on at the time that makes it look that way.
Am I the only one who sees a pelicaN from halo? Cause that’s the only reason I’m buying this ship
A comment to feed engagement to our overlord, the almighty algorithm!
i cant decide between the warden or harbringer which one is better
If you're going after smaller ships, the Warden is going to be more maneuverable. The harbinger is tankier but less maneuverable, and has some extra size 5 torps and larger turret hardpoints that can help with bigger targets.
What does bespoke mean?
They're custom made for these ships only. I.e. you can't fit them to other ships. Cheers!
Can u get this ship without paying 250?
Sure. All 4 are available in game.
It really looks like a p-38
You could get the one you like the look of and eventually just get the BUK or even purchase the others outright in game.
its like an pelican
Ive rented the warden and my only gripes are ballistic guns and thats only because it has no freaking ammo come on guys give us reloads just give it a ridiculously long cooldown.
High quality comparison video, but somehow I am not a big Vanguard fan
I think we'll see more love for the series someday.
@8:23 The Hoplite has been considered a "variant" and so can swap modules/use BUKs along with the rest since they reworked them in 2019 (they basically gave all the Vanguards the Hoplite's bigger/better ramp).

Good stuff!
Analytics!
sentinel for the win
SENTINAL!!!!!
WEEOO!
the harbinger was really good in 3.13, unfortunately the whole vanguard lineup is kinda meh since they decided "they don't want metas" and made all weapons the same....
Harbringer is cheapest version (by 50%) and strongest one. So pls dont spread lies...

I'm not sure if they changed it, but the last time I checked, it's guns were only available by purchasing the ship even if you wanted to use them other Vanguards. I'm not sure why they weren't put in game for purchase.
@@RedLir_Live You get the Warden guns at Cousin Crow's on Orison.
If you get killed by agile fighters in a Vanguard, that's on you as a pilot tbh.
