    Great vid! It's worth mentioning that the turret on the Harbinger supports weapons one size larger than the other variants, allowing you to mount any two size 3 weapons instead of size 2s. Huge perk in my book.

      Very few people seem to realise that. The Harbinger is the only Vanguard ship with that option. Together with the 3 size 5 torpedos its the Vanguard with the most firepower. And for the sake of a heavy fighter its my favorite of Vaguard.

    I have a soft spot in me for the Vanguards in general - they're what I would look for in a personal vehicle I plan on using for combat, because while they're clearly combat FOCUSED, they're not quite combat DEDICATED. My point of view of the Vanguards is an interesting one, though, because I see them more like heavily-armed recon craft than I do fighters. This is a ship that is cable of doing search-and-destroy missions all day and night long, with firepower to handle lots of different target types on its own, and enough resilience to get out and report bigger threats.

    The Harbinger is one of my two regular mission boats. Those torpedoes are very good for VHRT target softening and there's just enough to take on a group bounty. Unfortunately the missile restock bug has kept the usage low this patch and I've been running more with the Andromeda because of it.

    • @shawnc5188
      @shawnc5188 Год назад +2

      I reckon the Harbinger’s biggest flaw is that CIG locked their torpedos to stock torpedoes, whereas in patch 3.16 you could change them for Scimitar 5, which have really short minimum lock range - turned the Harbinger into a deadly PvP ship as nobody expects a heavy torpedo to lock on under 1km.

    the harbinger is a great ship for vhrts and slapping some attrition-3s on the turret just makes it soo much better if you have a gunner.
    Even without the gunner the pilot weapons are some of the strongest in the game for a ship in its size category.
    The harbinger is basically the redeemers little brother in terms of fire power.

  • @callipygianpilot2700
    @callipygianpilot2700 Год назад +3

    The S5 torps and the cheaper in game price compared to the other Vanguard variants is what convinced me to give it a try. The firepower is impressive, but the torps, however strong, are in a bit of an awkward spot. They're too big for medium ships and too small for large ships. All 3 hitting a Connie for example won't take it down, for its brand as a "bomber" I found it a bit lackluster since you won't be bombing most of the time.
    I'd save another mil (which I did eventually) and get an Eclipse for the ultimate hit & run one shot bomber.

    A big tweak that makes this ship a lot more engaging in combat is to swap out the shields for FR-76s (goes for the whole vanguard series really). The higher regeneration speed and higher HP pool is way worth it in my opinion.

  • @Xeonzs
    @Xeonzs Год назад +1

    It's worth noting that the proprietary size 2 nose weapons (only for this ship hull) do damage equal to size 3 weapons for other ships.
    So in terms of damage output you got the nose S5 and 4x S3, which is gigantic for a ship of it's size.
    On another note; I originally got the Sentinel instead, while it has the same firepower (besides the turret and torps) it has 33% less hull hp, but 33% more agile, so for people who would like the amount of gunpower (specifically the pilot guns) but in a faster ship, the sentinel is there for you.
    For real money I'd probably steer people more towards the andromeda, MUCH more cargo, almost 8x the shield, 5x the hull hp, same missile payload (in terms of damage), almost 2,5x the pilot gun firepower, 2 gunners (although with only 2x s2), yes it's a low more sluggish, but what you get in return is a ship that can do much more of everything and it's 50 bucks cheaper, this perspective is mostly based on the what you get for your money value.
    (It's funny, cause the andromeda if the 2 front weapons are switched to S5, has 90% of the pilot firepower of a 600i, half the shields, but double the hull hp and literally costs half the price at 240 vs 475, realizing this made me regret getting the 600i lol, at least the 600i explorer can carry a nova tank after the rework).

    I actually bought one of these the other day. Took her out for the first Bounty Hunter mission (kind of a tutorial, you probably know the one).
    Took me several minutes to go from Arc to Microtech where the target was. Of course, he was in a dense asteroid field. My luck, it was on the dark side of the planet, so everything was completely invisible. Finally got a ping on the target and his one wingman. The fired missiles, so I evaded. As I did this, the wingman flew over and rammed me, instantly destroying us both.
    So, I respawned back at Arc, waited 20 minutes for the claim to finish, another several minutes to fly back to the target. He fired missiles, but I evaded. As I did so he tried to ram me, but I managed to avoid it. As I tried to turn around, he turned faster (being in a light ship), and he rammed me.
    Kind of an underwhelming outcome all around. This was the EASIEST combat mission I could have? Is this normal tactics for AI enemies... just ram the player as soon as possible? I mean... I never had a chance to fire a shot before they rammed me. And... it's not the first time. I rented an Arrow one time, and an enemy rammed me... not the ship, he rammed ME in the cockpit, leaving the ship undamaged.
    Not impressed with the combat so far.

    While I do enjoy the Harb, and like it's tankyness, I still only rank it like number 5 on my list of Star Citizen ships (that's still high in a game with over 200 ships!) But it just doesn't replace the much cheaper, more fun to fly, better visibility, can still bring a friend along, Reliant Tana. But the Harb is my go-to for Xenothreat events. Hauls boxes good, good speed, can bring a friend or two, can take a few hits while you're loading, and it's not worthless against the Idris at the end. Number one ship in my book for that event.

    • @Bubble_0f_d00m
      @Bubble_0f_d00m Год назад +2

      lol, ok. #1, Reliant.
      #2 for being the best low flying ship in the game, the Mustang Gamma. No joke, cockpit visibility and atmospheric flight characteristics on that make it hands down the best at just having fun flying low. Try it out! (Yeah, I bought the ship)
      #3 Probably the cutlass, just for it's Jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none usefulness, and it has the best paint job in the game with that Ghoulish Green. (I paid for the paint, but not the ship)
      #4 I'm a fan of the Pisces, it looks like a shuttle from Star Trek Enterprise. Plus you can summon it from a small pad, and as a Reliant owner who kept bed logging, I'm often stranded and needed a ship that can be summoned from those tiny ground vehicle pads. (I'm a slow learner). And the medical variant makes it more useful. That marks the only other ship purchase I made.
      #5 Probably the harbinger. I like the Sentinel as more maneuverable, but I could never figure out how to use it's EMP well, so it just frustrated me. The Harb is like a Russian Mil Mi-24, a flying tank. You just feel safe in it. But like your video says, it's way too expensive to drop real money on.
      Also competing for that number five spot is the Glaive, but that thing is both crazy expensive and near impossible to buy.
      You do a lot of reviews, but what are your top five?

      @@Bubble_0f_d00m oh! A reliant pilot. I'm curious, does bed logging in the reliant work if the ship is landed?

    • @Bubble_0f_d00m
      @Bubble_0f_d00m Год назад

      @@Cain3697 Sometimes it doesn't kill you, and only leaves you stranded! It still puts the ship in wing-up position and traps you out of the cockpit, so you're stranded at best. At worst the wing is clipped into the ground and the ship blows up before you can get out. But I hear from quite a few people that the patch currently in testing has actually fixed the Reliant bed logging issues.

    i have had all the ships over and over , and i am very torn between the freelancer MIS and any of the vanguard , however the Harbinger annoyed me because last time i had one ... maybe 3.16 ish i could not change out the size 5 torpedo for an EM torpedo .

      @@Farrister i use a vanguard mostly solo for the QT fule tank size , just something to bumble around in and knock out my bounty rep with the start of that rep grind has you go to a few places . but i think the Misc is the clear winner in price . and then its a good ship to bounce between VHRT, and bunkers . thats mostly what i do .

    What I find really annoying with the ship is that the self status and target status MFDs are placed at the bottom 2 screens, out of sight by default, yes you can swap them, but it doesn't remember your setting so you gotta do this every single time your store / retrieve it, annoying to me.

      @@Farrister Yeap, probably gotta replace the CMOS battery on or ships motherboard so it remembers the settings lol.
      What's even more frustrating is ships DO remember the power settings, so the feature to remember settings/configuration per ship is in the game.
