I've never gotten around to playing Star Citizen, but design wise this is one of my favorite ships. It reminds me a lot of the SR-71, and the planes used by the X Men. Also as mentioned in another comment it bears a resemblance to the Valkyrie ship from Titan A.E. I'd certainly pay the money just to fly this around based on looks lol. I've heard other's mention modules and such to modify a ship more to your preference of use, which would be awesome. Eventually I'll need to pick me up a good HOSAS/HOTAS setup and try this out. There's so many bugs in this game. You probably wont be able to restock those torpedoes. I have seen loads of ships I liked the look of, ended up angry and disappointed after buying them. There are basic problems with this game which drains you and robs you of enjoyment. It all looks so good on paper, but all CIG seem to do is bring out new ships to cash grab.

There are now some Cargo Modules. So we wonder what would you say about using the Retaliator solely for cargo hauling or trading, in terms of operating costs. (Not a fan of torpedoes, but someone advised checking out the Retaliator with its 2 Cargo Modules.)
The Retaliator is the ship that brought me into Star Citizen. It always will have a special place in my heart. Every year I melt what I have to get it back, then end up upgrading to something else, then melt to get it again when it comes for sale... I also think the PU will become a salt mine when people in 150m+ ships get blown left and right by solo'd Retaliators. it'll be a hunting ground for a couple of months until people get used to it...
I agree, although I also think it will be balanced somewhat. For example, when player Idris is a thing, I expect Tali will be a lot less effective than it currently is
I think the gladiator is a good cheaper alternative to this, both you and the gunner get 2x S3 guns, plus you get 4x S5 torps and 8x S2 (these racks can be swapped out for 16x S1 or 4x S3), so while it can't take on the heaviest combat contracts it's easier to fly occasionally with just a friend (you're more likely to occasionally have 1 friend online than the 5 for the retaliator), it's a 110 dollar dollar cheaper (close to half price), while being the same gameplay style, just at a different tier. For in-game price the Vanguard Harbinger is also a good stepping stone, at 2 mill instead of 4 mill, while also being more a fighter-bomber like the gladiator, but 1 tier closer to the retaliator. It did surprise me that in real money the harbinger is 15 dollars more expensive than the retaliator.
Love the Retaliator - always have - but why for the love of God did they give it SIX landing gears, could they not chop at least two off it? And I'm not buying the load distribution argument either, for a Connie can get by with only two! Apart from that though, she's still a beaut.
Haven't flown one in a while but what I remember it does fly well, has good armaments and looks great on the outside. The big radar display is great too. The interior wastes a ton of space on corridors and the turrets really are inefficient compared to escort fighters, not to mention limited firing arcs. In-game price is fine but real money gets rather expensive for a digital asset.
@@Farrister - Long sleek boy, highly reminiscent of modern fighter jets, and the Tomcat-styled swing wings is the icing on the cake. This design feels kind of wasted on a multi-crewed bomber, IMO.
While there are many things about this ship that I find very appealing ( redundancy, endurance, fleet role), I doubt I'll ever buy one. Lot's of folk say they love the look of it - I am not one of those people. The bulbous shape and odd dimensions of the fuselage leaves me scratching my head and the pivoting VTOL engines look too small, tacked on and ridiculous IMO. That said, I would much prefer to see a Retaliator or two on my team (big fleet ops etc) than not simply due to their potential damage output. I enjoy the content, pace and editing of your videos a lot. If you'd slow / smooth your mouse movements a touch when doing ship tours, those of us with more miles under the belt would be very appreciative :) Have a great day o/
Honestly I have mixed feelings on this one - I think automated turrets would just make more people fly solo, instead of with friends, and multi-crew gameplay is something I absolutely love about this game!
@@Farrister Turrets can be automated in different ways: hiring NPCs, buying specific software, licenses… People fly solo anyway, and it's not easy to hire a crew. It would also be beneficial for developers: increased demand for multicrew ships.
@@Farrister How would you feel if the option to automate a turret took the size down by 1. It can easily be explained in lore because the computer and sensors needed would take up extra space, requiring a downsize in the weapons to make everything fit. This way, if you needed to solo, or like to solo, you can but it won't be as good as having a manual turret with a good gunner. Thoughts?
Solo Heavy Stealth Torpedo ship with the ability to carry VIP, Cargo, and has a galley. hire crew if u want but even used as a "super" heavy fighter she has it were it counts and id never "if i knew it was there" go against one on one with this in anything. it has teeth and bites hard...
@@Farrister not sad at all its expensive but x4 size 9 torpedo's with a VIP option, plus the stealth and shields... yes alot of that is not implemented yet but the Aegis Retaliator is currently the toughest brute for a single pilot. plus VTOL what more could anyone ask for? a spa maybe...
I want this ship but im mostly a solo player so this will be a little pointless for me to get unless I solo BHing big ships and learn how to use missiles effectively against players. (which depends on their ship and piloting skill) Great review, im a sucker for ships I can walk around in and log in/ out of, specially when I do some "legit" er..."secruity" missions and forget to "visit" the comlinks for an "inspection"
I am not big on pvp myself, ill take part time to time or if i have a bounty on my head or cargo pirates want then ill fight and run....mostly run if i can. (but NPC ships flying sometimes gets to me when they do a 180 turn x4 lol)
This is probably my favourite ship in the game - but I will never buy it. All medium sized components on a large ship (even the SC ship page lists it as a large vessel), no pilot controlled guns, waaaay too high crew count requirements, to fill turrets with undersized guns. I do love those torpedoes though, a lot. And the cramped feel of the ship is so awesome - like a submarine. Love how it looks externally too.
I liked my retaliator but decided to upgrade it to the Carrack cuz it just felt clunky in comparison and getting stuck on the pilot seat all time sucked
I always wonder why you don't power on the ship and get the lights on before doing these reviews haha.. it would mean there's no need for your flashlight all the time
Oof. Some of these older ship designs have interior layouts that make no sense. I get that in a real military ship “creature comforts” will almost always be subordinate to other considerations, but the route from the bunks to the head is just laughable.
I feel like I'm the only one who hates the look of this ship. For me, it's the ugliest ship in the game, it just looks like they gave a pencil to an 11 year old, said "draw us a cool looking aeroplane!" and just ran with that.

It did surprise me that in real money the harbinger is 15 dollars more expensive than the retaliator.
This ship looks like the Valkyrie from Titan AE and I fuckin love it
It's pretty iconic!
Love the Retaliator - always have - but why for the love of God did they give it SIX landing gears, could they not chop at least two off it? And I'm not buying the load distribution argument either, for a Connie can get by with only two! Apart from that though, she's still a beaut.
Haha it does seem quite excessive!
Aegis is the best manufacturer for ert missions
For many missions!
So much corridor - it's the Aegis way!
If the devs could miniaturize this design and turn it into a fighter/racer, I'd pay real money for it.
Long boy though!
@@Farrister - Long sleek boy, highly reminiscent of modern fighter jets, and the Tomcat-styled swing wings is the icing on the cake. This design feels kind of wasted on a multi-crewed bomber, IMO.
Such a cool ship
It really is!!
1:06 Where is this location?
MicroTech! There are green foresty areas
@@Farrister Thanks! :)
If you'd slow / smooth your mouse movements a touch when doing ship tours, those of us with more miles under the belt would be very appreciative :)
Have a great day o/
Thank you, will try to be less jumpy during the tours! Adding more miles here all the time!!
I like how the lighting is so bad, you have to use a flashlight.
lol, really making the most of those bomber feels xD
Would be nice if we could change size of the torps
You're thinking lots of smaller missiles?
@@Farrister yea i was thinking of how many size 5 could it hold
there are time where the npc either shot all the torps down with 6 or décor them away
We need automated turrets, no doubt.
Thoughts?
Is this a mini Polaris at this point?
Oh I think the Polaris is going to be much much more!
I had one of these ships. It's too claustrophobic. Only redeeming factor was the backup ship.
Backup ship?
Can't think of name. Small bomber carries six bombs.
Ok, the Gladiator... Love that ship.
Sadly no crew options at the moment :(
@@Farrister not sad at all its expensive but x4 size 9 torpedo's with a VIP option, plus the stealth and shields... yes alot of that is not implemented yet but the Aegis Retaliator is currently the toughest brute for a single pilot. plus VTOL what more could anyone ask for? a spa maybe...
Would it be worth upgrading from a taurus to this? My friends and I want to be able to fly together and do combat missions!
Honestly in my opinion the Andromeda has more general utility, and is more useful for if your friends aren't online, but the Tali is pretty fun xD
@@Farrister Thanks for replying!
I want this ship but im mostly a solo player so this will be a little pointless for me to get unless I solo BHing big ships and learn how to use missiles effectively against players. (which depends on their ship and piloting skill)
Great review, im a sucker for ships I can walk around in and log in/ out of, specially when I do some "legit" er..."secruity" missions and forget to "visit" the comlinks for an "inspection"
Sounds too PvP to me :p
The crew requirement is huge!
I liked my retaliator but decided to upgrade it to the Carrack cuz it just felt clunky in comparison and getting stuck on the pilot seat all time sucked
I seem to get stuck on all the pilot seats :( especially the Prospector!
@@Farrister I’ve not tried on the prospector but light armor seems to help slightly.
Retaliator is the thicc gladius
Haha, a bit, I suppose!
Maybe a reclaimer next ? ;)
Aw man, expensive request!!
@@Farrister hehe just bought one myself
@@Farrister if you would want to do it you could use mine xD
YES
Yes!
This thing is super tanky though. You'll be fine if all the turret's are manned unless your just getting overwhelmed.
But that's a lot of players to man them all!
Great video my friend. I ve a Harbinger, does it worth the change to the RETALIATOR? greetings from italy
Thank you :) In my opinion, the Retaliator has more limited uses. It's great, but quite situational. The Harbinger is a bit more versatile
We don’t need the flashlight to see
Fair enough!
We need more xenothreat.
Such a good event!
Its not small, but yet its claustrophobic in spite of its size. I think the interior spaces are unfortunate!
I always wonder why you don't power on the ship and get the lights on before doing these reviews haha.. it would mean there's no need for your flashlight all the time
Simply, I do now! It's something I have learned and tried to improve over the years
i like the look, but a crew of 6 is a lot
It really is
Oof. Some of these older ship designs have interior layouts that make no sense. I get that in a real military ship “creature comforts” will almost always be subordinate to other considerations, but the route from the bunks to the head is just laughable.
Haha yup!!
Retaliator Base is $150.
Isn't that without the torpedo's?
the fact that he never closes the doors in these vids is so triggering
So untidy...
Just lost audio
Oh no!!! It seems to be working for me?
I’d rather have a fleet of 6 eclipseseses over one of these with a full crew.
Probably true at the moment :(
First
Yup!!
I feel like I'm the only one who hates the look of this ship. For me, it's the ugliest ship in the game, it just looks like they gave a pencil to an 11 year old, said "draw us a cool looking aeroplane!" and just ran with that.
Oh no!!
I like the ship by the numbers, but that bulbous forward section and those bizarre nacelles? It's just so damned ugly.
I dunno, there's a certain modernised WW2 feel to it...
Hi
This thing is just a futuristic b-17 🤣
Flying Fortress!
Shit - No more secrets yet.
Yet...
Bahahaha... Cargo variant!
second!
Great video now I’ve watched it too... I do have an Eclipse and I wish it had more torpedoes like the Retaliator...but can’t justify having both...if I’d known more about Retaliator before buying Eclipse in game I would have bought it....ps: liking my moustache-ojis
Love that you got the moustache in there!!
sans
Comic?
The ending aged badly
In what sense?
@@Farrister “you can rent the ship in game”
@@Farrister i cant buy it online either
Ah I see, I think it is still for sale in game though!
@@Farrister nope
