Dairy cows are different than beef cows. They are much tamer and more friendly, especially if it’s a smaller herd. When cows are raised by people from birth they act very different. I had a dairy cross steer who thought he was a dog. His best friend was our big farm dog and he always came running when he saw us.
How can you not like cows? All they do is stand in a pasture and eat grass all day. They're not aggressive or mean. They aren't confrontational. Actually they can be very interesting. They like to listen to music and will supposedly give "better" milk if you play music for them. They like to be petted and scratched behind the ears like puppies. They're just the best, I love cows! Would totally own a couple if I lived on a farm. 🐮
@@whimsygrove9971 not all cows are the same. Ones that are handled frequently are very tame. Those who have not been need to be watched when you are around them. Even the tame ones can hurt you even when they don’t mean to. We had a pet steer that was very gentle and loving. He would come running to greet you like a dog. The problem was he weighed about 900 lbs and had horns. He didn’t realize that when he turned his head back and forth to be scratched he was knocking into our legs pretty hard. I had constant bruises. Size does matter. He wasn’t even full grown yet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like this video was more zoomed in than usual, and it really gave me a lot more appreciation for how delicate the knifework really is.

It is so, I don't have the right words, interesting, amazing, powerful, inspirational and moving are the ones that come to mind first when I watch your videos. You can tell you really do care and feel for these cows when they come in hurting and painful. I am not sure you even notice but your voice changes ever so slightly when you work on a heifer or bull that is truly in need of your care. Your lilt becomes slightly more thick and your voice softens, almost as if you want the animal to understand you are there to help. I have learned so much from the years of watching you all the way back to cow 812 (I believe it was she has a book about her written). Thank you so truly much for your love, care and compassion to those who need your healing touch Greame, you and the boys have helped so many and taught so many of us it really is inspirational and moving.

It's incredibly comforting to know there are people with your expertise (and every bit as importance....concern) taking care of these animals. Very interesting to watch. Well done, my friend.
Question... I watch the majority of YT videos without sound so you may have answered my question a hundred times. If so, my apologies. I just wanted to know, of all the cases you handle, what percentage of animals suffering from hoof issues is a result of owner negligence? And thank you for all you do to relieve the suffering of these marvelous creatures.
It seems like the majority of the farmers he works with are pretty careful with their cattle, but a lot of then also have herds with upwards of 500 cows. Some of them also buy cows that have been mistreated by their previous owners. Graeme frequently makes a point to explain why and how an injury could have progressed as far as it did. I have no experience with cattle myself, so I just have to take his word for it, but Graeme definitely comes across as someone who really cares about the animals he works on. If you have the opportunity, you might try a few videos with sound some time -- Graeme is a delight to listen to.
Although it would also be really nice if he or someone else put proper closed captioning on his videos... having done some captioning myself, I know that's not necessarily a quick job, but not everyone can hear his dulcet tones. I do sometimes wish I could make a quick buck or two captioning stuff like this, haha.
Hey Graeme I recently became a member as I am a huge fan of your work! Ive learned so much from you- not just about hoof trimming and bovine biology, but about modern cattle farming in general. You have changed my perception of modern farming and seeing the use of technology to benefit the cows giving them a far better quality of life! I live in the Big Smoke of London but I would love to live in SW Scotland doing your job. All that hard work, dedication in a beautiful location... you are the dream!!!
I find your channel to be very entertaining!! One question has come to mind though. With a hoof problem like this one, how long does it take to develop?? I would think more than 6-8 weeks??
This is another one I thought we might see a problem on both toes of the same foot, but alas he was able to block it. I wonder what can be done if both toes are damaged - since you can’t really block (I assume).
icelander here and I have watched this channel from time to time and I do have one question, have you ever like gotten a cow that both the inner and outer claw was umm like damaged same time, don't know the right wording in this, I hope you understand what I mean and if that case what can be done if anything. thanks
It looked like both claws were in trouble at the beginning but you sorted out the left claw for a block. This cow is going to feel much better now. Thank you for helping your Lovely Ladies! 😀🐄💜
I've watched your channel for months now.. and even re-watch certain videos. Thank you so much for helping these beautiful creatures and educating us at the same time!! I don't even know how you got on my Facebook news feed but I loved your content and searched for your channel on RUclips.
God Bless you for all u do for these cows, you do your work with love and compassion and it’s rare to find someone like you! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!😊
Your vids of bovine hooves always remind me of a fresh coconut with the pure white healthy young hoof horn surrounded by an edge of rock-hard material like the coconut shell! The problem stuff dark then further in, many coloured, depending on the damage and any pathogens!
The ability for the hoof to heal and regrow especially in the filthy environment of manure is always amazing to me! You are doing great work and have my respect for sure! ❤
These videos give me so much nostalgia with my grandparents. Growing up, we had lunch once a week for decades. We're Dutch, so every weekly lunch we had Gouda.
1 one swipe of the grinder, will get it far cleaner, than water EVER will. 2 water makes everything slippery, which is never a good idea, when razor-sharp instruments are involved. 3 water and electricity aren't a good mix. 4 lesions are generally hidden by horn, so washing wouldn't reveal anything anyway.
I love hearing the cows talk. It has a soothing effect on me. The lowing ever how that should be spelled makes the stress of the day just go away. Who knew nature could nurture. What a gift to man.🥰
Now at 64 wish I listened to myself to do vocational school. During high school adults didn't listen to me, worked for a living in offices, never satisfied inside, just worked. Too late to go back, financially and physically, not happening. Love watching.
Not only am I a HUGE MOO FAN! This has given me great reconsideration of owning them. Always wanted a coupla Highlands~ have beautiful acreage for them… but the hoof care makes me incredibly hesitant! However I have never met gentler creatures outside of the dogworld. Actually? They’re even better. ❤ Thanks for sharing and all ya do!
It means general practitioner or generalist physician. That’s what they call the family doctor who treats general everyday issues in the UK. In the U.S. we call them a PCP or primary care provider. So he is not a doctor or vet, but he treats primary issues with cow’s feet. At least that’s what I think he means.
hello from Denmark.,...I have seen 5-6 videos from you,...how difficult can it be..😜😜..I have decided to start a company here in DK.....Maybe You have some cheap gear for sale,?? 😁😁😁😁. Just kidding.....I've seen quite a few of your videos....not because I'm particularly interested in cows and their feet,😄. but I really like your humor and outlook on life.... and you live in a very beautiful place.... 😍. ps.... I am impressed by your work in getting the cows' feet to be nice and functional. 😊 take care 😘

I watch you because I'm fascinated with what you do and the calming sound of your voice. ❤
Love the HGP. I won’t even click other hoof trimming videos. This channel is so much better.
Midwest Hoof Trimmer (?) is a good channel. However, it seems odd to see hooves trimmed minus the Scottish accent!
I think missing the Scottish accent is a huge problem! 🤣😂
Thank you guy’s 😊❤
I got my Herd tumbler in the mail. I am so excited to have it. I love it so much!!! Thanks
O casqueador deveria realizar uma limpeza e desinfetar o casco do animal , antes de iniciar seus trabalhos .😠😠😢😢
I do have a question? Do you go to multiple farms during the day or do you stay at 1 farm all day and check all the cows at that farm on the one visit
Hey bud just curious if a hoof has no defects how long does it take to do a trim on 1 cow all 4 hooves. Thanks love the videos
Every time you trim a bad hoof, it reminds me of when you get a bad bag of potatoes and you try to save the good parts.
Hi from South Africa!! Thank you for your videos. Always enjoy them.
awehhhhhhh bru
Hi South Africa . I'm from Clearfield Utah USA
Thanks Graeme for another intricate video. It seemed you were never going to get to the end.
I for one like the longer videos, music, the joking and watching where you all are going, the scenery.
Knock knock
Whos there!?
Cows say..
Cows say who?
No, cows say mooooooo!
Your vids of bovine hooves always remind me of a fresh coconut with the pure white healthy young hoof horn surrounded by an edge of rock-hard material like the coconut shell! The problem stuff dark then further in, many coloured, depending on the damage and any pathogens!
My take exactly! 👍
My wife and I really enjoy watching your videos. I was wondering if you might could do a video on how you sharpen your knives?
The ability for the hoof to heal and regrow especially in the filthy environment of manure is always amazing to me! You are doing great work and have my respect for sure! ❤
Another enjoyable few minutes with you guys in your world. Thanks, Graeme! 🐄💕🐄
I find myself cringing. I feel so sorry for the poor beast. Have to admire your being careful and doing your absolute best. God bless.
Compassion for another living being is admirable! ❤️🐄
These videos give me so much nostalgia with my grandparents. Growing up, we had lunch once a week for decades. We're Dutch, so every weekly lunch we had Gouda.
2:02 Like parmesan cheese 😀
Is this an older video? It looks familiar.
Caverns and chasms, band name, called it.
You wonderful caring cow wizard
Why do you not wash off the hoof so you can assess what you are dealing with clearly??
1 one swipe of the grinder, will get it far cleaner, than water EVER will.
2 water makes everything slippery, which is never a good idea, when razor-sharp instruments are involved.
3 water and electricity aren't a good mix.
4 lesions are generally hidden by horn, so washing wouldn't reveal anything anyway.

I love hearing the cows talk. It has a soothing effect on me. The lowing ever how that should be spelled makes the stress of the day just go away. Who knew nature could nurture. What a gift to man.🥰
I love the way you care so much for these cows that when they flinch you gently reassure them that they are ok
Honestly, are there any cows out there with feet in good condition?
Hooves seem like a really bad design!
Cows weren’t meant to live on farms
@@ZoidBergShuffle98% have good feet, but don't make good videos.
6:30 when a sigh says a 1,000 words
"You're alright" cow's hoof immediately freezes "You're alright" cow's hoof immediately relaxes
Почему нельзя перед работой помыть копыта простой водой?
Там же навоз , инфекция 😢
What does "gp" mean ?😊
It means general practitioner or generalist physician. That’s what they call the family doctor who treats general everyday issues in the UK. In the U.S. we call them a PCP or primary care provider. So he is not a doctor or vet, but he treats primary issues with cow’s feet. At least that’s what I think he means.
It stands for Graeme Parker. GP. 😊
hello from Denmark.,...I have seen 5-6 videos from you,...how difficult can it be..😜😜..I have decided to start a company here in DK.....Maybe You have some cheap gear for sale,?? 😊
take care 😘
Неужели нельзя перед этим делом водой омыть копыто от грязи и дерьма ? обычным керхером.
will this be a double block?
