When I started watching your videos, I thought "hey I could do this." Having watched a lot of your videos, I now think "I could never do this." This takes a lot of skill and practice. Hat's off to you guys.
the thing about these is that it's always something new you quite literally need to expect the unexpected this applies to everything in anything with a slight association with healthcare with any kind of living creature. you never know what kinda crap someone went through or did to get hella plaque on their teeth
That was just huge!!! It amazes me they can still walk with that kind of damage. You just do such a wonderful job not creating additional damage and fixing what has been created.😊
Up until a few months ago, I never knew cows needed hoof trims or had the potential for so many problems. I also have to say, you've got some mad wrapping skills. I have problems getting a band-aid around my toe.😂
I think the simplest explanation for why soft hoof-horn is harder to cut through than hard hoof-horn is that if the horn is soft, it tends to move out of the way of the blade rather than allow the blade to cut it. Obviously, it can only move so far before it can't move any further and then it can be cut, but it still makes cutting difficult, and the accuracy of the cut can be thrown off unless you anticipate what the result will be. All of which just increases my respect for you and for the difficulty of the work you do.
We are so lucky to have people like you! This is so important for the animals. Your a podiatrist for them. I bet they would kiss you after the treatments if they could. You will be rewarded for your kindness ❤
Hello Nate , i hope you are doing well. Another great video, great treatment. Nate you are honestly the best hoof trimmer I have ever seen on RUclips. I say this with all my sincerity. In terms of your hand skills, the fact that your knives are always razor sharp, your approach to animals and the care you show them after the procedure make you by far the best. I'm not even talking about your relaxing voice 😅. Nate, I have a few questions for you, buddy: 1.) One of the things I'm most curious about is, can you use anesthesia for trimming ? I don't know Spanish, maybe they could be veterinarians, but in some of the Latin channels I watch, trimmers use drugs , anesthesia and perform some surgical interventions. They anesthetize the cow's leg and perform surgical interventions on living tissues. Can you intervene like this in an emergency and have you ever had an experience like this ? 2.) Is there a relationship between the structure of the cow's hooves (hardness, amount of extension, susceptibility to a certain type of problems like ulcers, white line problems... ) and the breed of the cow? Because I've seen many different types of hooves on the many channels I watch. Some are soft, some can be hard as rocks. Is this situation due to genetics or is it related to human reasons such as the soil characteristics of the dairy farm, closed-free feeding type? Greetings from Turkey Nate , love you buddy. Will see you in the next videos .
Thank you so much for helping these precious animals. When you get into the infection, I imagine it becomes quite painful. I see how careful you are. Is there anything you could do to possibly numb their hoof before you start? But I totally see how the cows are in full understanding that you’re helping them ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I watched one of your videos and got hooked on good trim videos, so now I get recommendations from RUclips for other channels as well. I am now well versed in watching people trim cow hooves (and understand there’s no way I could do it lol!) and I have to say - it can be downright upsetting seeing how rushed, rough, or imprecise some folks are in their trims. You are really top of the line when it comes to farriers!
A farrier is someone who cares for and shoes horses. Nate looks after cows hooves. Are you really that stupid? Of course you are. You’re probably American.
I'm always so happy for the cows under your care because , even though they are in so much pain, I know that within a few minutes they will feel much better!!
Please tell me I’m not the only person who loves watching these and talks to the phone of “oh poor babyyyy! That poor cow must really be hurting. Good thing you’ve got Nate little guy. It’s gonna be ok.”🥺🥺🥺 I know it’s neurotic but also…. Am I the only one????? 😅😂
I think the analogy you're trying to give about the soft horn is kind of like cutting a tomato with a regular knife. The surface will give before it cuts.
I’ve watched so many of these videos. I never thought I would be so interested in all the different ailments of hooves. 😂😂 I think it’s because this is like a combination of ASMR and pimple popping videos. It’s very satisfying once everything is cleaned and he puts the block on. Cutting through the hoof sounds and sometimes looks similar to soap cutting. Nate’s voice is also very soothing, too!
I've become kind of obsessed with these videos. I have to say I feel so bad for the precious animals not understanding why people let it get so bad. Thank you Sir for being kind + gentle with them.
Hearing you describe cutting that hydrated hoof horn and the weird way it feels, in my head I imagine it's like peeling an old potato - it can move kinda weird.
You’re so gentle. I watch another hoof guy and his poor cows stay mooing and jumping he isn’t gentle at all. They start bleeding because he’s not careful. Hurts my heart. But your cows never jump or moo in pain. They are lucky to have you.
Oh no, that’s horrible! I can watch these knowing Nate has the animals’ best interests at heart. Hearing how much pain the cow is in the whole time just sounds gruesome. 😢
A not on why softer heel (ceratin?) is harder to cut: Cutting is a type of 'plastic deformation' where the object being effected has enough force put on it that it will no longer return to its original state (overstretching a slinky for example). The other type of deformation is elastic (like elastic bands) where the force isn't enough to cause a permanent structural change. The stiffer/harder something is the less elastic deformation it can experience, which means the bar for plastic deformation is lower. This is why anything that can flex is much more likely to survive extreme forces than even objects significantly 'stronger' than it.

G’day I don’t know why this popped up but I’ve just found this channel and I’m totally hooked! You are amazing! I love cows 😍Thank you from Sydney 🇦🇺❤️
So the softer hoof horn is maybe rubbery, like a soft silicone toy? That texture or consistency would just move and "bend' rather than be cut, and that can cause a tear or for the knife to suddenly race through and cut into the corium or soft tissue, causing damage and injury, and we do not want to cause more pain but relieve the pain the cattle are already suffering. I get it, and to me this change of consistency, hard to slippery-soft makes sense too.
