Do I own cows? No. Do I have any reason to watch these videos? Also, no. Do I pay substantially more attention to Nate and his teachings than any college class I have ever been in? Yes.
Look at that exacting blade work up top! Cut all around the disturbance to the micro-edge, and not once did she bleed. Such skill and patience. These farmers are grateful for your brand of work, no doubt.
I still absolutely CAN NOT for the life of me know why I LOVE these videos😫And when he sprays the "green stuff" on the absence!!💃🏿 I'am instantly soothed!!🫣
I’m always SO AMAZED by what lurks beneath what looks like beautiful, creamy, lovely new horn….and then WHAMMO…you start investigating with your knives…..and Holy Heck‼️YIKES‼️ BUT YOU ALWAYS NOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. And I’m sure these lovely ladies appreciate the care you provide for their comfort and their health..walking away feeling more comfortable and more stable on their feet. I LOVE COWS…ALWAYS HAVE. ❤🇨🇦
Not sure why this channel originally popped up for me, but I'm really glad it did. As many have already commented, this profession is absolutely fascinating. So multi-faceted it's an art form. Oh, I've been around cows several times, horses many times and I've see them shoed. Never saw anything where a farrier was dealing with serious issues. An experienced farrier is certainly worth their weight in gold. Being able to help these animals back to health and comfort must be tremendously fulfilling. Horses, cows, what else would be in the mix? Reminds me of an old (very much ex) girlfriend at the nail salon that I went with 1 time. Seriously, have you ever had a situation you felt really challenged by?
I watch several of these hoof trimming channels and while I choose to abstain from claiming, who is the best, because I'm simply a layman when it comes to these matters, Nate is far and away my absolute favorite! I love his calm and informative explanations and his knife work is head and shoulders above any of the others in my humble opinion. Nate really seems to care about the comfort of the cows he works on and it appears that he truly enjoys his work.
I love how the very first time a video from you was recommended to me, i was interested because i didnt know what i was looking at at first but i was soooop grossed out. I was hiding my face in my sweater saying "wtf is going on!" over and over until the video ended and i just sat there shocked and at the time traumatized😂😂😂 but now, maybe a year or so later, the notification for this video comes up, im doing the same thing I was the first video i watched🍃💨 wearing the same sweater, and my reaction is "yeahhhhh buddie, lets goooooo" and i get excited 😂 love your videos Nate!!!
Lol, yeah, my face was the picture of fascinated horror when I first watched one of these videos, but they were so addicting! Now it's just enthusiasm 😝
I know that digital dermatitis is very contagious between cows, so after you've touched it with your knife (as you did in this vid) do you then get a clean knife to trim the rest of the herd or just disinfect the one you're using?
Was watching things as the bleeding symptom from pressure, etc. Interesting (Hairy Wart) crept in while the sole was detaching. Thank you for the reminder about heat and the resulting pattern of hoof problems following a heat spell. We must have a doozy of hoof problems in the U.S. with the heat conditions of this passing summer.
I love watching them get care and feel better. But my favorite part of this video? Little lady coming over… “Whatcha doin’?… Oh. Hoof care. Ok. Proceed. But take good care of her.”
I was half falling asleep as it’s my nightly wind down routine to watch your vids, and I could’ve swore you said “Parakeet Invaders.” 😂 Had to rewind just to be sure I’m not going hard of hearing yet haha 😆
I've been watching Nate's videos for months now, and I know he does a great job. Sometimes, I see a spot I know he'll get to eventually, but my brain hyper fixates on that one spot. It's such a relief when the knife finally reaches it. 😅
I’ve watched these kind of trim videos for about three plus years, and Nate is the only one I stayed with. I was captivated for a short period of time by a dog and pony show elsewhere but as a kid who spent time on my great aunts farm. I know Nate’s the trimmer she would want. Her barn didn’t have swill, her animals were well tended and good humor, while the norm, was never a clown show. I’ve learned best from Nate. Thank you sir.
When they're used to getting handled and worked with, they learn that being put in places like that aren't dangerous, so they stay calm. It's the farmer's job to work with the animals and keep them tame. Plus, these are dairy cattle. The crush isn't that different from the milker they go through every day.
It's not like they have a choice. They can't mooove in the crush, but yeah, I get what you're saying. Once in a while, you can hear them moo, but they may feel somewhat secure in the crush.
Digital dermatitis I am always amazed as to as little infection/pus I see in your videos compared to others. Do you have any idea as to why? Do you see the cows more often? Or is it the amount of antibiotics in their food? Or type of flooring?
I grew up on a dairy farm and remember doing this with my grandfather and dad when i was younger. I love watching these videos ❤. Its almost like i can smell it again 😂
Hello Nate, I would like to ask you a question. Is the white powder product you use zinc? So what do I use as liquid? I watch you with pleasure from Turkey @nate
@@emreacar9434 6:33 The white powder is salicylic acid. He then wraps it tightly to the hoof. The time stamp is when he says what it is. As for the blue liquid he sprays I'm guessing it's a type of disinfectant or spray that's safe to get into the hoof. Other channels use the same type of spray. Others ALSO use iodine as well (sometimes in place of the salicylic acid, sometimes in addition to). The other channel I'm referring to is the Scottish guy, it's called That Hood GP or something. This guy and that channel are the 2 I have been watching lately.
The margins were sensitive but you took great care to upset her as little as possible. Hopefully it's a quick heal and complication free. Sore feet suck in the cold months just around the corner.
FAQ? How do you maintain your blade(s)? I can imagine they last a long time when dealing with the sole horn but the wall horn must eat the edge. Do you sharpen them? They seem like such a difficult tool to maintain. Also, if you prefer them thinner, why don’t they come that way? Edit - I forgot to add the thing I initially wanted to say. Thank you, hope you and your family are well.
I, too, have succumbed to the mysterious allure of these videos.I really like that you are helping animals and your voice shows you care. Cute cow photo bomb this time!🐄❤
Crazy how much a lot of us have learned from just watching RUclips videos. I truly feel I could become a hoof trimmer with minimal training. But I could be completely wrong lol
hi, It seems to be always about cattle, i wondered if sheep and goats need similar care ? The only thing i can guess is that due to their smaller size, they have less pressure on hoofs, so less problems with punctures and such.
If you would've told me 4 months ago that I would be bingewatching hoof cleaning videos instead of studying for my business calc test I never would've believed you lol RUclips is one crazy place
Love your videos! ❤Very relaxing, I always wondered does trimming their hoofs hurt once you get further down? And does it hurt them when you spray disinfectant, or are these painless? I just find this process so interesting and mesmerizing 😊
Good job! In a perfect world, there wouldn't be any of that sloppy wetness on the floors of those barns but I know it can never be due to the washing down of the flooring and the constant cow poop being added. Kinda glad I am not a dairy cow!
Would be interesting to see those "spirochete invaders" under a microscope. Spirochetes are gnarly with how easily they can burrow into anything and feed.
Watching the Hoof GP channel, seems like the cows in that area suffer from things I did not see here, like foot necrosis where half of the hoof is in decaying state. Is there an explanation to this?
Love your videos ❤! Very relaxing and satifying to watch your work, thank you! I have a question for you, sir, have you changed the way you place the glue on the hoof lately? You put some on the outside wall too now, i remember you used to move the block in a circle before placing it, probably to obtain some of the same result?
I was kinda hoping that you would give a complete answer to “what would happen in the wild” question-“well, assuming that her lameness didn’t single her out for predators, the problem would resolve itself and she’d shed that detached hoof.” We seem to have a problem admitting to ourselves that the reason wild animals have fewer health issues than domesticated animals is because problematic animals tend to get eaten more than healthy animals do. I am thinking digital dermatitis. By the way Nate, you are far and away the most interesting hoof trimmer on YT in my opinion. You are also very careful with animals. Awesome.
Why are you put on block before you are finish the trimming? Is it a lot easier to work without the block sometimes in the way? Please advise. I love to watch your work. Thanks! God Bless.
Hey! In a previous video Nate has explained that the glue for the block requires a certain amount of curing time which is influenced by the air temperature. If the block will hinder the remaining work, he will wait, but if he can apply it before he is finished (without it impairing his work), he will do it to save time. Hope that helps. God bless! ☺️
I LOVE watching your videos!! So full of information. I am curious, is it mainly Dairy Cattle u do most of foot work on or is there Angus, shorthorns, Herford cattle as well?
Don’t know the author, don’t know cows very well. How dramatic, knowledgeable and caring this cow repair person is. Is Nate a Vet? A blacksmith? A trimmer of horse and cow and hoofed animal person (what ever they are called) very curious city gal!
Nate, you’ve described the knives you use getting progressively thinner and sharper as you use them, but when do you know it’s time to retire said knife for a new one? When it gets to the point where the blade is so thin it’s about to snap?
What kind of grinding wheel do you use? We live on a homestead and use our grinder on all kinds of stuff from metal to wood carving. I was curious what type of wheel is best for what you do.

Spray with chlorhexidine
Gotta love that curious girl sniffing around in the first half. Goes to show the cows aren't afraid or nervous around getting their pedicures. 😂
They enjoy getting those nice manicures in summer when they can show off their ✨hot girl body✨ to the other girls in the pastures XD
Why do I get so much joy from watching a guy trimming and treating cows hooves ?
Ikr? I'm a horseperson and I can tell you cow's feet are far more interesting
