I worked as a professional diver from 1982 to the late 90's and my work watch was a Seiko - ultra reliable and unbreakable and still as good now. I have been watching your videos with the intention of investing in a 'special' watch and Tudor has been a favourite so far - maybe a Seiko Prospex would be more apt. Thanks you I will keep watching for more inspiration.
I've had a Quartz diver on my wrist for the last 17+ years, and I've used it in the ocean, swimming, freediving and snorkeling. I just recieved my new King Turtle, and I'll never leave Seiko!!
Though I agree with all of your technical comparisons matching up timepiece to timepiece; Rolex isn't really in the business of selling timepieces anymore. They sell something that the majority of their clients hold higher than any specification.... Status.
Common misconception: “Zaratsu” does not translate to “katana polish”, “mirror blade”, or anything like that. It’s a Japanese transliteration of “Sallaz”, the Swiss-German tin-plate polishing machine that Grand Seiko began using in the 1950s, and has no technical or historical relation to the polishing techniques of Japanese swords. Zaratsu/Sallaz polishing is unique in its use of the flat surface of the plate, which can produce a smoother finish and sharper lines than the round edge of a traditional polishing wheel. While this method is difficult and unforgiving, it is not exclusive to Seiko- a handful of other manufacturers use the same process, including Japanese brethren Citizen (on their Chronomaster) and Minase.
1bluensx not always true. For me, the Rolex design language is so refined and the proportions of the watches are amazing. It’s like comparing Nike running shoes to Brooks. Yea the Brooks are the better running shoe, but they’re ugly. The seiko is nowhere near as elegant.
@@laithisr Despite the beauty of Submariners, some of their designs are actually bland though. They do look very good and refined. However, as a series of dive watch, its almost like its just the same watch with different over and over again in this decade. Seiko always experiments new designs. Its not like looking at the same thing over and over again. Prospex always have new designs every 5 years(?). But yes, nothing cant really replace Rolex. Because Rolex.
@@tippykaffu4047 Well, that's exactly what the Submariner is; it's been around for decades, improving incrementally until it is as it is. This is why Rolex doesn't "re-issue" an older version; technically, it's the same watch that has simply evolved. The blandness is familiarity. Everyone has imitated it or made a homage for quite some time. To me, modern Rolexes (except for the Explorer) have become soul-less. They just don't do it for me like they used to 40 years ago.
@@BurntPlaydoh Exactly, the SKX is objectively a bit of a POS. Poor build quality, poor specs and higher price than the competition. I'm actually struggling to think of the price point where Seiko is a good value these days.
@@DM-rc4yu I'm more interested in Citizen's diver. The Promaster 200m quartz solar is a beast. I prefer quartz because I value precision and the solar capabilities are so useful. With Seiko, I really like the Save the Ocean version of the Turtle and the Samurai... but they're costly and far less precise.
@@BurntPlaydoh they knew that the skx is nearing the end of its production so there was no need to update it. Even as a huge seiko fan i think the recent price hikes are out of control for the skx.
While the Submariner remains the starting point for all diver watches,Seiko produces some of the best diver pieces which cater for almost all budgets. In this case Seiko gives Rolex a very serious challenge. If the Seiko was 40/41mm it would sweep off the Sub easily in my modest opinion. Thanks for the Video.
Stop asking small kiddy watches! Watches, especially, divers are meant to be seen and legible. Buy a Micky Mouse watch and stop bothering serious horologery passionates...
This Seiko is a beautiful tool watch. As a dive watch and at it's price I totally agree that it is superior or at the least equal to the Submariner. But let's be totally honest, most people buy the Rolex for the "wow" factor. To impress people and show off their money. Either way, Seiko has hit it out of the park with this one. Great review.
Rolex and Omega and other Swiss own brand recognition. Others will definitely notice. You won’t get any attention. “It’s just a Seiko”. Finally got my SLA021
Here's the real thing. Rolex used to be for the wealthy. Now it's for the Land rover driver drug dealer I know plenty of them!! And I know you see them aswell. Some approval to have rolex are becoming like burberry in the 90s chav symbols.
I have a 45 year old Seiko Automatic Day Date, 6139-7039. While I haven't worn it much, the watch has only needed crystals as they are glass and has never been opened. After sitting for months, it starts running before I even close the clasp. I don't think you can beat a Seiko!
@Ray Doyle only few times throughout the journey. And I don't have to take special care when I'm wearing it. Scratches all around am I'm still fine with it.
True that! and that's why the whole racecar comparison goes wrong for me! I don't get it...... there's no substitute for cubic inches, there's no better F1 engine than a roaring V10, and a real watch has a mechanical movement with a unique heartbeat. And it has its shortcomings, so what! It gives me that special feeling, its alive, it lives for me, for my kid and his kids....... I don't think this semi electric piece of marvel from seiko is gone pull that off aswell.......
Seiko Grandmaster beat Swiss watches hands down whenever they have ever entered into an accuracy competition against Rolex, in fact, Rolex will no longer enter their watches against Seiko because they don't like coming second.:-)
You have to see this Seiko Prospex LX in person. Magnificent watch. This watch is a statement piece. I purchased the SNR045 (Green version) and absolutely love it. Why not have this watch AND the Submariner in your collection?
Detailed, thorough and highly infirmative review! Well done!!! Seiko really deserves much more respect than they receive. They should put you on the head of their PR department!
you kno what I love about your reviews mate? It's not just a list of specs and stating the obvious.. it's qualitative, opinionated, thoughtful perspective. I would rather have deep commentary and stock photos than pro macro shots and boring commentary I could read on a spec sheet.. which is pretty common out there!
I love the video, IDGuy. I think the LX carves out a proper niche for itself, though I would hold off on getting an LX until Seiko comes out with a 40-42mm size diver, with an updated clasp. I don’t get hung up on brand names, so I think comparing a Seiko to a Rolex isn’t necessarily a problem. Personally, however, I would still prefer the Submariner, since I find it to have a more compact and conservative form factor than the Seamaster and the LX, and the Sub is a better all rounder as a one watch. Coincidentally, Ken Okayama designed the Enzo Ferrari, so your car analogy was also fitting.
seiko is a beast and a truly powerful submarine the face is big for a reason so you can see it better underwater!! the rolex submariner is more of a fashion nowdays
Excellent video. I have 8 Rolex, which includes the Daytona, Batman, and the Hulk. I have twice as many GS. I agree with your assessment and I would like to add a few details from my experience. I have currently four spring-drive. My 5th, the latest manual spring-drive 9R31 Sunbeam is on its way. On the average, i get 3 sec per month. That's Japanese modesty for you. The clasp would be like what you get on a GS diver or a marine master which is designed for practicality as a diver's tool should. The bulge on the clasp is just as iconic as the crown. It's just like the SBGC series chronograph being nicknamed the Dragon for obvious reason. If you are into iconic vintage Seiko, you would understand. The LX is designed and certified for saturation diving without helium gas. The Sub is not suitable saturation diving. Though the Sea Dweller has helium, but, it has an obsolete manual function. As for the finishing, i reproduce here my comments on the comparison between the Dragon and the Daytona. I have the Jade Dragon SBGC207 which comes in a one of a kind croc strap made to last forever, it seems. It looks more rugged everyday with seasoning. I will compare it with my Daytona 116503 for a point blank value proposition. If you have both, start by feeling your finger over the crown, the guard, and the pushers, then the edges. Now, you can feel the difference between a handmade watch and a machine made watch. Try not to press to hard on the Rolex, though, or you may cut your finger. The Daytona +30 sec per month is the most accurate of my Rolex. The Dragon hardly moved a sec over a month. Don't say it's not mechanical. It has a 50 jewels 415 parts movement and it's 1/3th the price of the Daytona. The LX, at 4200USD, after 25% regular discount is less than half the price of the Sub. Yes, it's justified. If you prefer the GS pricing, then, get the GS. If you have a lower budget, the marine master, a real diver, is still around for you at 2700USD new. I don't see any reason to complain.
@@slickrick320 You are welcomed bro. One other common misinterpretation is the size and thickness. It's understandable if you are getting one or two watches, you may get a small and thin one of your liking. But, if you are a player, and have been playing for a long time, you would certainly have gone beyond that stigma.
Nice comment. Appreciate this kind of analysis. Every1 here may not have the opportunity or mean to owns these watches and your ownership shines the light. I believe GS does have machine finishes then hand finishing beyond zaratsu. as well. Thumbs up
@@vtheglad9266 You are welcomed. Recently, there was a video comparing Rolex and GS. This one caught my eyes bec it has the main frame picture with the left half Submariner hour hand and the right half GS Hi-beat Diver's minute hand. That's a wrong picture if you do not spell out the differences. The Rolex hands are way smaller and shorter. It requires an excellent mechanism to carry bigger and longer hands, especially if it's running at higher frequency (5Hz Vs 4Hz), maintaining a higher power reserve (55 Hr vs 48Hr) and at the same time, keep accurate time. It's right to price the 30 Jewels 5R65 spring-drive more than the 26 jewels 8L35. It's more decorated for a start. The tourbillion is a marvel, but, now you can have one for 500usd. The spring-drive is a standing marvel, testament of Piaget's 70K failure. If they had been successful, the Swiss will tell you how marvelous the spring-drive, and is worth every penny of your 70K. There is video by watchbox comparing Omega Deville tressor with GS Elegance SBGK002. I copy here my comment: "The gs not only has a better mechanism than the patek calatrava small sec but way better all round. The dial is an art piece. Wrong comparison. The tressor should be compared to the gs caliber 9s64, the latest being the sbgw231 which cost one third the price of the omega. The hands and indices of the gs dances even in dim lights. The tressor though more decorated, runs at lower beat and yet has lower power reserve." Still, i take my hat off to the Omega for their guts. It takes an incredible mechanism to carry a long minute hand and an even longer second hand at high frequency (3.5 vs 4Hz), maintaining high power reserve (60 vs 72Hr) and at the same time keep 'chronometer time.' Watch connoisseur called this sec hand the third hand, and the best of watches. This basis of a good manual wind gives you the platform for a good automatic mentioned earlier. Try to find one of this caliber in the big names and see. Lost in complications for complications sake, people are hoodwinked and missed the most i important lesson in horology. This is the beginning of knowing what is a good watch.
I own both watches, the Seiko and the Rolex. I end up wearing the Seiko more because it's less flashy and inevitably when people see read Seiko on the dial they think "cheap". On the other hand, the Rolex shines and commands attention. Finally, although both are good quality watches the Rolex comes on top, will retain value better and represent most people in most situations.
It's very hard to imagine anyone other than pretentious watch snobs to spot a Seiko on someone's wrist and think "that's cheap". When in reality it would be a breath of fresh air when watch enthusiasts spot a Seiko, a Timex, a Citizen, a Casio, Orient and instantly think "now that's a real watch", in a sea of apple watches, fashion watches, and empty wrists.
I think seiko would represent most people in most situations. I have a Rolex but wear my marinemaster more often especially at night. The unwanted attention factor doesn’t happen with the seiko even Hough I like it better😃
If Seiko did something with their bracelet, clasp, and on the fly micro adjust, they would be so much more desirable. I own the MM300 sla021, and its lovely. One of my favorite watches to date. I owned and still own, omega, rolex and tudor. The seiko mm300 is still my favorite. I replaced the clasp with one from a strapcode bracelet
@@purplefabian What does that have to do with my comment? That's a different topic from the one at hand. Better movement or not (and even that is arguable depending on what is important to you), this Omega is not even inflicting a wound on the Submariner's sales...let alone killing the sales. Those that want the best value for their money can go buy a Citizen or a Casio and get a durable watch that keeps perfect time. People who buy these expensive mechanical watches are buying a statement and jewelry for the most part. Those that want the Submariner don't give a rat's ass about a couple of meaningless technical details that the movement of an Omega might have that the Rolex does not. They want a Rolex. Period. Very few people wanted the Submariner and then said, "Oh wait, now I want this Omega diver instead." Some, perhaps, but very few. There's such a high demand for Submariners that the demand has not eroded by even one unit since the launch of this Omega. Rolex has not changed their production by one unit because of this watch and that is the topic at hand...not which one has the better this or that. Don't get me wrong, I own many Rolexes and I also own Omegas. In fact, I'm buying another Omega right now. Omegas are awesome and I'm not here to hate on them; I'm just stating facts from a business perspective and I laugh when people say it's a Submariner killer. Whatever you can say on paper about, whether it has to do with movements or something else, has nothing to do with this point.
PartiZAn18 I feel on an automatic watch it’s unnecessary, if you wear it, it will be charged. Only necessary for manual watches so it reminds you to charge it.
Is that a sub?!...no, it's a Seiko. Is that a sub?!...no, it's a Tudor. Is that a sub?!...no it's a Steinhart. Every brand wants to be like the real the real thing. Many people talk down about Rolex, but...they buy watches that look like Rolexes lol.
That Seiko LX might be the ultimate tool watch. I'm really interested in that Spring Drive movement. I'd say the only thing that really surprises me about it is the clasp for the bracelet. Even the MM200 has a milled clasp. Seiko is prone to some odd decisions, but I love them and this watch all the same. If I could have one watch at any price point, I'd be tempted by this one, or perhaps one of the Grand Seiko divers.
I own a Rolex coke dial GMT II bought brand new in 2006 and a Sinn U1 with fully tegimented bezel and bracelet and a casio mtd 110. While my rolex has appreciated over 250%, Rolex has kept the watch with the same movement. My watch has the 3185 and the newer models have the 3186 movement. By now almost 15 yrs have passed and my watch is trouble free and when examined at close range you wouldn’t know its 15 yrs old. To the point i am considering buying a seiko for sure but i like the older models from previous generation. In terms of value seiko wins for design, quality, cost, reliability and overall functionality. Buying a rolex now is insane as Rolex drives the demand and you cannot even get a stainless steel submariner. Excellent review, very in depth and you really have done your HW.
Another option that is more affordable is the new 2019 Prospex Sumo. Very nice watch with great updates like saffier glass and better movement. Under $1000! Also in green.
@@lebojay How accurate is it? Mine lost a full minute most days. It was a beautiful watch but I sold it because the lack of accuracy was unacceptable. A watch that cannot keep time reasonably accurately, is worthless to me.
@@vondahe Let’s say +/- 25 seconds a day approximately. Much room for improvement. The movements have regulators so if you’re willing to pay a watchmaker to fiddle with it they can be made more precise.
Honestly, nothing will ever kill the submariner until Rolex discontinues the line. There are plenty of better watches out there, watches that come close to the quality at a substantially lower price (Steinhart being one) but the Submariner is like any other luxury brand/item. I've always been a bit sketchy on Seiko because they don't have the consistent quality that they used to. For that money, you might as well save up for a bit longer and get a Grand Seiko.
The Seamaster just looks better and classier than the Prospex. Omega really nailed it.The Rolex is starting to look a bit old and crusty next to both of them, though. There’s a limit to how much the Rolex brand name can make the sub shine.
Hue Man That is true. I do not doubt for one second that the Rolex is a better investment (as far as investing in watches goes anyways), but as a watch it is getting a bit long in the tooth compared to its competition. I think a good move for Rolex would be to update their watch again soon, like they did right after the Omega SMP came out.
You can say Rolex is looking old and boring but one can say they don't need to change what isn't broken. You know what you are getting with Rolex and that is class and quality. Now for a Rolex enthusiast being class and quality is a different story.
The only reason I would want this watch is for the spring drive movement's quartz level of accuracy and the perfect sweep of the seconds hand. But otherwise, Seiko is asking too much for a prospex watch. Seiko is known to have quality control issues on prospex and other lower end lines of watches in regards to the alignment of hour markers, chapter rings, date windows etc. I might as well go look for a used Grand Seiko.
I own a basic Seiko SKX009 (Pepsi) diver watch, it is just as accurate as my Rolex Batman (2016) in my opinion, but what I feel when I wear my Rolex is priceless. I enjoy wearing my Seiko very much and I use it for a beater. I have been wanting to buy a Grand Seiko SBGN003 or a GS GMT SBGE201, but my issue isn't with the quality of the watch, in my opinion Seiko group makes some of the best working timepieces. The problem I have is if I every go for resale, They have no value because I have been told by watch resellers that it's just a Seiko. Just to add I buy watches to wear not for resale, but in my opinion you never know when needs change. Great video as always and all the best.
Regardless of the Seiko’s accuracy, design or materials, the Rolex is Iconic and will always be more desirable. Sidebar: Seiko bracelet clasp design sucks.
I for one won't mind if the Submariner's design stays the same. It's a classic signature look that you'd easily recognise from afar. It's what made the Submariner, well, a Submariner. A movement upgrade is welcome, though.
Rolex has been overtaken:( It's no good denying it anymore. No one is saying they're bad, they've just overpriced themselves out of the market. Spring Drive, superior finishing and Titanium, add to that insane lume and power reserve indicator, arguably more heritage. If you're biased say it, don't act otherwise.
rashid_art 2015 Given that you can’t find sports model Rolex watches in any AD in the world coupled with grey dealers selling watches £10k above list price; I don’t think they have priced themselves out of the market. Demand is greater than ever. The Seiko will appeal to one group as Rolex will the other. I own a Seiko and a Rolex, no bias here 😁
Yes, because the Seiko has a more accurate movement, can actually be used as a dive watch, and has no stigma as merely a name, I have an Arnie dive watch I purchased over 30 years ago and have used it as a commercial diver, scuba diving, and snorkeling, and the LX is going to be my replacement.
The Steinhart Ocean One is the real Sub killer. Might be the best bang for the buck. The entire watch was less than the service on my Rolex. I sold the Rolex and bought an Ocean One. As a result I wear it everyday and don’t worry about it at all.
LMGLUDA After owning both, I can attest that the Rolex os most certainly not worth $7,000 more than the Ocean One. In fact, you’d be surprised at how they are more alike in quality than they are apart. Don’t be a brand snob. There are other very nice watches. Besides, I still have several others, including a sapphire sandwhich MOTM.
Biff Bifford I have bought 2 Steinharts, also own a couple of Rolex and few other low, mid and high end watches... as with everything, price grows exponentially. A Marinemaster is not 5 times better than a Sumo, but it is better. Cheaper watches will always give you the best bang for your buck, if that’s all you are looking for you shouldn’t pass the 200 mark... it was just funny to talk about selling a Rolex and prefering to buy a Steinhart
LMGLUDA Now, knowing what I know now, I doubt I’ll buy another Rolex. For me, relative to everything else out there, Rolex just simply doesn’t represent a good value anymore. They’ve priced themselves out of the market, and continue to do so at a higher rate year after year. Like I said I love my Omega MOTM, but don’t see myself buying another Omega due to much better values out there. I don’t need name brand recognition - only quality. Steinhart, Sinn, and others provide that.
Steinhart is just remarkable build quality - and fantastic physical balance and confidence on the wrist , true value with their nod to earlier Rolex designs that are no longer being made - simply cool . The general premise of this discussion misses the point -we all know that most 300$ solar quartz driven watch will be more shock resistant, last longer without a service and tell better time then a mechanical Swiss or Rolex. The interest in purely mechanical pieces related to their relationship to history and events, ancient design and build elements, early mechanical horological principles and architecture. We know Quartz digital and hybrid technologies will always be the best value to tell the time - but thats not why you buy a purely mechanical piece. ☺
People tend to forget that Rolex are mass produced watches, somewhere around a million watches a year. They're pretty good watches and I'm sure worth the $10,000 or whatever the retail price is. But people who are bamboozled by the brand name to pay double that in the aftermarket space aren't exactly the brightest stars in the universe. As far as the Seiko is concerned, the Spring Drive is the future. To sum it up those who say "It's only a Seiko." are either watch snobs or don't understand the massive impact that the company has had and still has on the watch industry. After all they almost killed the Swiss watch industry in the 1980's, and this Spring Drive technology may well have a major effect as the technology trickles down, as it inevitably does.
Very well states, unfortunately those snob wannabes are too dumb to understand that and I may add sans it’s current retention status Rolex is a very overrated and overpriced even at its current msrp and for all of its models. Anyone who searches online will find them to be abundant at inflated prices yet they still think they rare and made im low quantities.
Nice video! Spring drive is actually way more accurate than a second a day. It's about a second per month. I don't think this watch is worth it though, for this kind of money you can buy a Grand Seiko Snowflake, which is way more appealing in my opinion
It’s not. It’s about 4 seconds a month, which is still insane. At 4 seconds a month a spring drive has in 12 years, 2 months and about 2 weeks the same deviance as a modern Rolex running +2 seconds a day has in a year! Gotta love spring drive! :-) Also, it’s not fair to judge the price of a dive watch by comparing it to a dress watch because they are totally different beasts.
@@pacovl46 Some will run at +4 seconds, some at +0.5 or even less. There's this youtuber who has two Snowflakes, one of them runs about +2s a month, the other at about +1s a day. I agree on the dress watch thing, but in my opinion the snowflake isn't really a dress watch. It can be worn on casual occasions as well. It's as much of a dress watch as a Datejust is
My analogue G-Shock GA-1000-A1 is accurate to about 2 seconds per year :), and is massively more rugged than the three watches reviewed, combined. Certainly the GA-1000-A1 is not an heirloom piece, and we all love those, but for accuracy, reliability and durability, mechanical watches cannot touch quartz. Its as if all mechanical watches ship broken, with some being less broken than others. And don't drop one off your dresser onto a hard floor, but yes, that US$9,000, thank you very much. I tell you, neighbors, the watch business is just like the mountain bike business. Price is no barometer of performance, and everything is vastly priced over the value of what you get for your money. Buy smarter - get better.
Thanks for this informative video on the three divers. Yes, I do like the LX, but its size is simply too overpowering for my 6.25” wrist. I have been wearing the SKX, Turtle and Samurai and other mid-size sports watches with no issues. The maximum L2L distance that would work for me is 49mm.
I have a very small wrist too but I have got over the whole thing of I can’t wear a watch beyond size X. It’s a bit like people who say if you are over Y years old you can’t wear this or that or the other. I have even become proficient at trimming rubber straps to avoid having an enormous take flapping in the breeze.
Why would this Seiko have the Submariner, “on the ropes”, when watches as excellent as the Planet Ocean didn’t. What about other Spring Drive divers that have been available for years. This makes no sense.
It’s not going to kill any sub, not at that price point. People who can spare that kind of money for a watch would just go for the Coronet. It is how luxury goods work and Seiko is just not luxury enough for people to spend that kind of money. On the other hand if Seiko drops the price to $4k range it can very well slay the Omega Seamaster.
Are you sure the clasp on the SNR029 is stamped? There are virtually no Seiko's above $300 on SS bracelet with a stamped clasp, they're all milled. I couldn't find a source for how the LX line's clasps look, but I *highly doubt* they'd use stamped clasps. All Prospex divers and Presage watches I handled had good to great bracelets with at least ok clasps that were all milled. If you want to take a look at a great and elegant, yet bullet-proof GS sports watch, check out the Spring Drive GMT with rotating and fully lumed sapphire bezel, the SBGE201.
@@uyt6uyt5 TBH since IDGuy said himself said that he is not too heavily into Seiko's, the statement about all Seiko's having stamped clasps derives from a preconception on his part. I have now seen another video featuring the SNR029 and it was clearly visible that it does in fact not have a stamped clasp. Moreover it seems the milled clasp also has the diver's extension known from the Grand Seiko divers.
WOW! just WOW! a Brillent presentation!! I'm an F1 fan from the 50s and you're right on point!! I feel if it wasn't for the Bond connection the Rolex wouldn't be where it is...only reason I have a GMT is Honor Blackman in Goldfinger! The tech and the emotions is what stirs me in both the watches and the racecars..Great Job!
Ilestun and Robert Riva, I don’t know why you’re both definite about Omega being Bonds only timepiece. I saw myself as a teenager when Dr. No was shown on BBC 1 for the first time in the mid 70s that James Bond wore a Rolex Submariner in Dr. No - 1962, just like the marque preference of the author Ian Fleming who wore a Rolex Explorer.
@@markn3586 Exactly! I was only a kid but I remember Bond (Roger Moore) with Pulsar and at least 4 different (possibly Moore :) Seiko gadget watches in the 70s through to the 80s. Kids never forget these wonderful toys :)
What is the cost? Are the links solid? Bezel moves one direction? Screw down crown? How did you rework the crown? Do you offer this as a service? Can you describe the clasp? Does it have a lock? Thanks
Yes i totaly agree with you. When they presented this new Seiko prospex LX (for Luxus) SNR029J at Baselworld 2019, I was thinking that it's a great diver watch, better than a Submariner. The Sping Drive movement is better than the Rolex movement, more accurate, with the same 72 hours power reserve... And the Titanium material is 40% lighter that the Rolex 904L stainless steel... So the watch is much more comfortable on the wrist than the Rolex... Ceramic bezel, antireflective sapphire cristal, bigger hands than on the Submariner and of course 300m water resistance ! And the Seiko lumibright lume is as shinny as the Rolex chromalight.. The Seiko Prospex LX SNR029J is about 6 200€, so 1000€ less than the Rolex Submariner. This Seiko is a great value for that price... Very interesting the comparison with a Formula one in your video... For sure this Prospex LX SNR029J should belong to the Grand Seiko collection. Because now such luxus models with a grand Seiko mouvement like the Spring Drive and high quality hand crafted, creates confusion between Seiko regular models and Grand Seiko models...
@@claudiakovesdi378 there is no women's model unfortunately. It's only men's. 45mm on woman's wrist it's quite big... But, why not ? There are many women that wear Rolex Submariner or Daytona... But they are only 40mm...
Its not even relevant as a £10 Quartz watch will beat both. So a more appropriate comparison is, would you wear a £10 watch before the Seiko ? Well we both know the answer, and so my friend the same applies when you own the Rolex and the Seiko is the option.
@@LG-kl3co not really as the spring drive does not has capacitors nor batteries. It's a mechanical marvel and super dificult to achieve if you really know about what was the challenges behind. The Swiss were also trying to achieve some system like this but they couldn't do it, after Japan released the sp many swiss brands just aborted the mission. The Seiko is finished in a greater level than a Rolex as It is on the grand Seiko level. Rolex doesn't hand finish dials hands nor cases in the same level as grand Seiko. So even without the SD I think it still a divisive subject.
Disagree. The Rolex is every bit as tough. You may wear it as a dress watch because you don’t want to scratch it but, money aside, the Rolex is a superior tool.
@@jameswilliamjones I didn't say the Rolex wasn't tough, it's just that the Rolex has earned a stigma of money status. Whereas the Seiko is a more practical watch for everyday use. Both watches are top notch in their field
Really appreciate the commentary. Well thought out and makes sense. Know exactly what you mean about the titanium and have wondered why Rolex has not gone down this route. It is also lighter than stainless, but I do also know Rolex uses 90xx grade not 316, but titanium is still the lighter. There are also other exotic alloys that no one has tried yet. The mechanism of the Seiko is a winner and especially the reserve function, which I feel is a must on a modern watch. The only thing I'm of contrary position is the aesthetics. Think the large lumes of the Seiko are slightly garish. Overstated and large like its trying too hard to be stylish. And perhaps is perceived to be fashionable purely because its different like most modern pieces, but how the design will be perceived with time is where the test with aesthetics will be. Whereas the Submariner is understated and tasteful, purely being the product of the subtle design finesse of form follows function that seems to follow through. Agree with you on the crown on the Seiko though. Would like to see other novel features come as standard on watches. The Seiko style movement I think is the way to go. Simple, long lasting, reserve function, and the ability, in future, because of being an electrically operated system to add other functions on later.
I own the Seiko, in four months of daily wear it hasn’t picked up one scratch and has gained 18 seconds that’s an accuracy of 0.15 of a second per day.
Outstanding Presentation! I have a Rolex Sub that was given to me as a College Graduation Gift and it spends 99.9% of the time in my Safety Deposit Box because its a 40mm case and I am a 6 foot 2 inch 250 pound guy with a nearly 9 inch wrist. I normally wear diver watches because they are tough as a former Military guy that is still involved in tough work I need a reliable and tough watch that is why I stay with watches from Seiko, Glycine and Breitling because they have made 45-48mm case watches that are build Solid! This Seiko Prospex LX is a watch that I was not aware of but now that I am it has made the short list as the next major watch Purchase in 2020.
Rolex isn't pecial at all. No innovation and outdated styles for all of their models. Seiko looks modern even with that huge crown and it boasts performance beyond anything Rolex can ever dream of. There are better alternatives to Rolex in all of their lines. Great video, keep it up!
don't expect the Rolex Sub to change. Rolex believe that they have found perfection in that design and to change it now would fly in the face of the reasons that they have kept the traditional design.
I think allot of you young guys don't realize HOW lucky we are that we can still even buy something as classic & original as the Submariner, still made by the original company & not ruined by "improvements" thought up by youngsters who don't fully appreciate the near perfection of the original . . . For instance . . . If ford still offered a 65 mustang, in its original form, it would be a best seller . . . But we are not offered anything classic in its original form in these modern times . . . Its nothing short of a miracle that Rolex hasn't given in to pressure to ruin one of the last great originals still in production.

I own 2 prospex. And i Will never leave them, and they Will never leave me!
Status.

The LX wins due to the spring drive. It’s the pinnacle of watch movements. Nothing beats it.
THANKS.
Thank you
Thank you for the insight
The Casio Oceanus line of watches also uses the same process of polishing.
Very informative. Thank you.

No, because people buy Rolex for the name. Many many better movements. But yet people will buy it because it says Rolex
1bluensx not always true. For me, the Rolex design language is so refined and the proportions of the watches are amazing. It’s like comparing Nike running shoes to Brooks. Yea the Brooks are the better running shoe, but they’re ugly. The seiko is nowhere near as elegant.
@@laithisr actually the seiko grand masters are in a class their own
1bluensx movements have nothing to do with it
@@laithisr Despite the beauty of Submariners, some of their designs are actually bland though.
One of the BEST movement comparisons/presentations I have ever seen.
Agreed
Seiko divers are extremely underrated

Im still wearing my Seiko Diver watch made from 70's.

True that! and that's why the whole racecar comparison goes wrong for me!

Reviewing a watch with just booklet data and online images... This is unserious (I'm more of Seiko fan myself - but yes, this has no point).

I agree the crown mod is a big aesthetic improvement.
Agreed, How was it done?
Good analysis my friend. 😎
🧢🧢🧢
Any body who has a car can afford a Rolex. To each its own
If Seiko did something with their bracelet, clasp, and on the fly micro adjust, they would be so much more desirable. I own the MM300 sla021, and its lovely. One of my favorite watches to date. I owned and still own, omega, rolex and tudor. The seiko mm300 is still my favorite. I replaced the clasp with one from a strapcode bracelet

The real Sub killer is the Seamaster Diver 300m
Sure. Not only is it not killing it, it's not even inflicting a wound.
@@damachine3 the Omega movement is superior
@IDGuy do you think the power reserve is necessary on an automatic watch?
I used to hate them but they've grown on me.
There is no doubt I'm my mind that they are useful. I've woken up to a dead watch many times before
PartiZAn18 I feel on an automatic watch it’s unnecessary, if you wear it, it will be charged. Only necessary for manual watches so it reminds you to charge it.

Excellent point. Lots of wannabes out there)))
cjack202003 I don’t mind Tudor, but you are correct. A Rolex is a Rolex.
Is it true what mentioned about the service of Spring Drive in 20years time?
And very thin because of 6r35 movement
I love my Samurai. With the 4R35 movement it was only $450 US and looks stunning on a Crafter Blue rubber strap.

Brilliant - I particularly like the analogy to F1 evolution tech. Your videos are superb, highly informative - a true delight!
Rolex is 904L steel not 316
I think he is referring to the older models.
I literally got shivers when you played that 2002 F1 sound.
I own a Seiko and a Rolex, no bias here 😁
And Rolex doesn't give a F...
Please what is the retail price of this Seiko ??????
I rather prefer the Omega Seamaster over Rolex or Seiko.
What you talking about Spring Drive movement more accurate longer power reserve
Green Erick Seiko also has better lume than rolex or omega...I’d rather an omega over a rolex though.
At 11:45 when all three are side by side my eyes are drawn more towards the Seiko.
I've got both but my Rolex has appreciated 900% since I purchased it. Will the Seiko be a comparable long term investment?
I don’t by watches for the investment aspect.
Biff Bifford wow, selling a Rolex and buying a Steinhart... just wow.
Also, it’s not fair to judge the price of a dive watch by comparing it to a dress watch because they are totally different beasts.
It's as much of a dress watch as a Datejust is
I haven’t seen a GS diver.
I am wearing a 2002 Rolex Sea-Dweller, a bit less than two seconds + per day. I'll take my Rolex all day.
where is this watch available or at least a link to it in Seiko's line?
How did you reduce the crown?
Why would this Seiko have the Submariner, “on the ropes”, when watches as excellent as the Planet Ocean didn’t.
What about other Spring Drive divers that have been available for years.
This makes no sense.
Killer comparison and loved the Ferrari comparison!! Nice work dude!
Ben Chang No, those buyers would want the omega badge.
Were is this watch available at?
As a huge F1 fan I loved the comparison, but still too big for me. I'll keep my Sinn EZM 3F, it's +2 seconds a day.
My SARW-021 most definitely does not have a stamped clasp.
Bond ALWAYS wore Omega watches.
James Bond = Omega seamaster.
Bond wore Gruen, Rolex, Seiko, Pulsar, and most recently Omega.
Thanks
I would buy this watch. But my OCD won’t let me. The crown position is just wrong !!
it actually adds to the comfort...…. it reduces the crown dig
Ahaha.
How much is a women's? Watch
@@claudiakovesdi378 there is no women's model unfortunately. It's only men's. 45mm on woman's wrist it's quite big... But, why not ? There are many women that wear Rolex Submariner or Daytona... But they are only 40mm...
Amazing, with power reserve indicator...
Where can I buy that seiko online? someone knows?
Jomashop
The Seiko has the spring drive that's enough to beat the Rolex.
Your delivery and comparisons were a work of art in its own right. I just ordered the SBDJ017 classic look but I do enjoy the solar power
You buy these watches for completely different reasons. You buy the rolex as an expensive dress watch and you buy the seiko as a tool.
What tool? I think lots of hi tech super robust watch availabe with fraction of price rather than this seiko
Great video. Why I own 4x Seiko/Grand Seikos.
where can I buy one I have not been able to locate it
I'm jealous 😂
Also Popeye is awesome
You did a tremendous job here. I’m a fan of how you present.
The knurl on the knob of the stem of the Seiko is much more functional with cold wet hands, with or without gloves. Mark 1 for Seiko.
The best watchmaker of the world! Who control the gift of time? Richt or poor...all materials...only SEIKO!
Bravo! New to your channel and really enjoying your commentary!
I own 3 prospex and I love this watch ! It looks rugged and tough 👍It’s definitely missing the cyclops over the date.
I own the Seiko, in four months of daily wear it hasn’t picked up one scratch and has gained 18 seconds that’s an accuracy of 0.15 of a second per day.
Have the same watch the spring Drive is an amazing movement
You’re an excellent speaker. Great review. Thank you from Texas.
Clasp man, are you srs 🤣🤣🤣 The LX has marinemaster clasp not the turtle/ sumo stamped one...
Simeon Aleksiev damn right! I’m surprised this reviewer made this glaring mistake -
Liked the video just for including F1 V10 audio bliss
Angels only wish their singing voice sounded that awesome!
Paralelle with ferrari is apsolutely perfect. Great job, sir!
When it comes to design, the Seiko is just simply not as timeless as the Submariner
Read Omega not Opera...bloody predictive text : )
I think allot of you young guys don't realize HOW lucky we are that we can still even buy something as classic & original as the Submariner, still made by the original company & not ruined by "improvements" thought up by youngsters who don't fully appreciate the near perfection of the original . . . For instance . . . If ford still offered a 65 mustang, in its original form, it would be a best seller . . . But we are not offered anything classic in its original form in these modern times . . . Its nothing short of a miracle that Rolex hasn't given in to pressure to ruin one of the last great originals still in production.
Ken Okuyama also worked with Ferrari
The message here: If you can’t buy Rolex because of the price buy Seiko for less. Rolex is Rolex. Seiko is Seiko.
Any video with an F1 car in it gets my like.
