new to the channel and you've been a huge help mate, keep up the good work!
its insane how much you've taught me bro and this content being completely free. all i can say is thank you and keep it up
Came from your optimization pack final video and have to say you are amazing bro, kept seeing all these people on twitter charging people for optimisation and you're out here giving great knowledge to help people so for that I thank you brother. Awesome content looking forwards to future videos.
You’re overclock guides are top notch. The explanations are golden
Love your work as always Chris :)
love it dude , please keep it going💙
Insane Video Fr33thy ❤️
Great job you helped me to understand more about memory overclocking
great video chris! thank you
1.6 is a little high for 24/7 voltage on ram. 1.5 is much better for a daily voltage. So work with that and see where the clocks and timings can go. Most boards will recover from bad timings with “memory fast boot” off. You want the board to train the memory. You have to test after each change. Otherwise if you do get errors when you do test, how are you going to know which timing is causing the error.
realy good video man keep it up
Excellent guide. Got my 4000 xmp 17 18 18 down to 16 17 17 but had to increase voltage from 1.45 to 1.46
Was having some gaming stuffers in call of duty
Great vid, thanks!
I thought you had 413k subs literally so professional
Amazing video like in the video thank u very much!
Hey FR33THY, thanks for this video. I bought a cheap kit of 4400 c19-26-26-46 that i had to lower to 3800 c16-22-22-38. What would i be better of doing, trying to lower the 22 timings, raise the 16 to help that or go back to more the XMP? How important are the 22 timings?
Best of the best ❤️
Thanks for the great guide bro. Is a amd overclocking series brewing by any chance?
yep its next
honestly good content
You may already know but best config is 2 x 16gb. You'd get higher freq on your Z490 Unify I have Z590i Unify ITX with 2 slots and can get 4600mhz RAM. You can also get latency under 35 ms on these boards as the RAM is so close and direct to the CPU with only 2 DIMM slots. May be something that would interest you. Few overclockers I know look for the premium Mini ITX boards when new ones come out for this reason. Love the content mate keep it up
@Doom Guy Depends how much you care about tuning. I wasn’t saying it’s the best. He knows the BIOS of MSI so I was just letting him know how he can get a bit more performance if he’s interested. Apex is good if you’re a nerd that enjoys benchmarking. But if you just play games and want top performance that’s easy to set up and has incredible memory training it’s a really good option. The memory is physically closer than regular boards so you can get sup 40 nanoseconds without a fan or 35 with a fan..
Awesome!
Hello FR33thy, on 42:12 what's the DRAM:FSB Ratio? On your video it shows 62:3. I notice I my PC it's 37:2. What is that looking at? I'm running that on my PC's and they have different numbers but I can't figure out what that's looking at.
Thank you broooo
Hi FR33THY, Do you still stand by your 1.35 max recommendation for VCCIO,SA? I have a 10850K and Z490-E
Have I been reading on different pages that overclocking ram does not exceed 5 fps in gaming gains?
This is correct?
Can you please do a follow up on the "memory standby list" issue that required using tools like standbylist cleaner to keep games stutter free and it only affected certain hardware configurations. Was it ever fixed in the later version of windows, does latest windows 10 have the same issue? windows 11 ? thanks.
I know this is 2 years old at this point and you probably won't see this, but I'm still on Z590 and just getting into this. How do you deal with the gear 1 vs gear 2 with rocket lake?
Any tips on lowering the voltages? Would I drop the VCCIO/SA voltages down and test until stable and then do the same with the DRAM voltage?
Yeah that works
I have a question for you. I have a RAM kit that's suppose to perform at 4000mhz but I can only get it to pass the testmem5 with no errors at 3600mhz after running it for an hour and a half. Off the top of your head do you know why that is??
Sheeesh thankyou! please make one for amd asap
its recorded ill release it soon!
master, what will be your next processor and mobo update? 10900k with an over of 5.2ghz looks so good for many years...
One of the best memory overclocking out there so far , but I can find nowhere who explains in depth the sub timings , is it even worth it changing them for gaming performance ?
ty a lot
Do you think Windows 11 will bring a noticiable better performance for gaming?
Hey Fr33thy, you say single rank and dual rank. Is that the same as single and dual channel???
Got my corsairs vengeance pro sl at 4,200mhz 17-22-16-41 is that a normal rating? They are originaly 18-22-22-42.
Power mode down is disabled and enabled the other setting you said to try.
Controll rate set to 2 aswell.
Gave me a 45.7ns latency which was lower than my xmp one which was 55.5ns I'm just testing for errors now with memtest64 the other memory test passed.
Can I set the dram voltage to 1.5 and expect the same results ?
Damn bro you got lucky on the silicone lottery there
Nice detailed video like always, Keep up the Work !
Quick question. Im planning to buy the Patriot Viper 2x8 4400 but i want 32gb RAM. Should i buy them 2 times so i have 4x8 RAM or should i look for other RAMS? Is there a benefit from running 4x8 ? I have the I7-10700K CPU.
Hey, how did you decide? Asked this question myself too…😅
What bios version did you use 🙂
Every video you upload I hope it is an update to the standby list cleaner issue, I have ISLC tool open 24/7 and its annoying to have it running always.
Pretty sure it’s supposed to stay running…
tREFI maxed out (65535) can cause file corruption. If you are setting it that high, then you should also run sfc /scannow at each bootup.
Sfc scannow only checks windows stuff right? But what if it corrupts while initiating a repair? And for the corruption is it like suddenly a game will have one or two corrupted textures, or suddenly not work, etc.. just random things not working or existing?
How do you even test for that?? I usually run like 42000-48000. But thinking of cranking it up. I mean I do fresh installs of windows like every 6 months so it probably doesn’t matter
@@ashryver3605 You’re complicating the issue. Sfc /scannow checks files for corruption and sometimes even fixes them. A better command tool is dsm /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. I wouldn’t max out tREFI. Too susceptible to corruption. Tuning the primaries, secondaries, and tertiary timings will bring great benefits, but patience is a virtue when tuning ram. It takes some time when testing is added to the mix………..but it definitely is worth the effort. All of my builds have manually tuned ram timings. It’s my own XMP, but specific to the builds components.
Hi, amazing content as always.
Is this possible with i7-9700? Non-k version.
People managed to mod the z270 back in the day to unlock overclocking for non K chips, but tbh it’s not worth the hassle
Hey everyone. I dont understand much about pcs. I was trying to get some info on my rams through cmd commands but seems kindda different from expected results shown on a website as an example. So i wanted to ask, is this right?

FR33THY, what do you think of that 390hz monitor? I just bought it and I am going to compare it to the 360hz I have to see if it’s worth it. Everybody is saying the backlight strobing makes a huge difference.. but I doubt it.
i have heard the same thing man, my concert is the ulmb range
@@FR33THY Acer’s backlight strobing technology is ok, I have the X27U and X27K and the extreme mode for VRB (ULMB) does almost match BenQ’s DYAC tech but the brightness hit is kinda bad imo. Worth a shot though. One downside is that you can’t have FreeSync Prem (gsync compatible) with the OC on from my experience with their monitors.
@@FR33THY so I just got the monitor, and yeah the reviewers were not kidding. 1080p just looks a lot better on the 390hz monitor in terms of clarity. This cheap monitor also has a sharpness feature which was absent on my ROG. I don’t know what it is about this monitor but that backlight strobing does wonders. It doesn’t even add input lag from what I can tell. The VRB also doesn’t even dim the screen that much like my Acer 270hz 1440p monitor does at extreme mode.
@@jameyt1 hey. Which monitor do you prefer, 390hz 1080p or 270hz 1440p? Seems you have both of them and I would love to see your feedback.
@@gene8945 really both monitors are good options. The backlight strobing on the 1440p 270hz does dim the screen even more than the 390hz but still on the Normal setting provides a good image without sacrificing that much brightness. Alot of people have had the problem of burn in with the 270hz though, but I bought mine refurbished and don't have any issue like that. 27 inch 1440p might be too big for some players though, but the 1080p 24.5 inch 390hz still has a good picture with the backlight strobing if you want a 24.5 inch screen. If you want 1440p though, I suggest getting that 270hz monitor. I have the g7 but the response time is slightly slower then the fast ips on the acer because of the VA.
Hello, I have an ASUS PRIME A320M-K motherboard, in the description of the board on the website it says that the board supports memory frequencies
from 2133mhz-3200mhz and 32gb RAM, it means that if I buy 2x32gb RAM, I won't be able to have 64GB? And if I buy 32gb (1 module) 3600mhz, it will be limited to 3200mhz?
you are limited to 3200
get a better board for sure
If your into memory OCing, MSI has the best mini-ITX boards for 2 dimms
I would like to mention from my experience, Asus is the best at iol offset latency and it can automatically decrease latency by 2ns.
HUm I see you are using a 10900k, and you forced pci link to be gen4, HOW ? (I thought it was only possible with 11th gen)
Is it worth upgrading i7 8700 to i711700k?, i have a 650w psu, rtx 3070. And im kinda worried to oclock.
better go with 10700 k better
I would say yes.
I have the:
i7 12700k 12th Gen.
Asus Tuf 3060Ti OC
600 Watt 80+ Gold
Mine is overclocked To The Max, I'm Hitting 24K on CineBench
hey fr33thy i know you have done custom iso with NTlite 1-2 years ago but i am kinda confused doing it and i need an updated version. It will be really useful in my opinion and a lot of people can save the video to use your guide when they need new freshly installed windows
@Borg my man can u share the link cuz i cant find it now
@Borg and does the free version limitate you a lot
@Borg ya thats the video
@Borg so you're saying free version is ok ? Because from what i read older versions were very limited
Hey fr33thy, I upgraded from 4 X 8gb 3600mhz to 2 X gskill 4400mhz xmp enabled was getting 180-220 fps (warzone) now getting 120-150, any idea what could cause this?
2 X 16gb*
I think ur memory controller is now in gear 2 and warzone dont like this on my machine
@@TruebornArmin I sorted it, I couldn't post in Gear 1, however I dropped to 4000mhz and increased voltage to 1.55 and smooth as butter 200-250fps every time
@@Matt-ut9dh i dropped my (4000mhz 16 16 16 36) to (3733mhz 14 14 14 36) to be able put in gear 1 and have now 180- 250 fps on rebirth with nvidia filters on.
Other specs:
-12700k turbo offset +4 (5ghz-5.4ghz)
-RTX 3070 OC to 2130mhz/8000mhz
-1080p Benq xl2746s 240hz
@@TruebornArmin I don't play rebirth only caldera but get 200-270 on that 1440p 10850k oc 5ghz and 6900xt
Pretty good really
Proper memory tuning is very time consuming. I personally prefer to tighten timings rather than increase speed. XMP is designed to work on every platform…….so the timings kinda suck.
Fr33thy is there anyway to update the b365 ib-r bios because the mother won’t allow it to go above 2667 speed
sorry man you need a better board
Hmmm. I was thinking to buy X570 for my new Xfx 6900 xt card and memory overclock. Maybe better to buy intel motherboard and buy intel cpu now for overclocking ?
You can probably find a 10700kf for like 230 dollars and slap in some B-die and get good performance. 11th gen is just not worth the price
dose ur cpu effect memory latency
is improvement on WRITE COPY and LATENCY, but retrogress on READ considered unstable?
if it's considered successful, why do I get retrogression on READ?
(stress test passes)
No need to keep reading if you already got your question answered - just happened to see it and didn't notice it was 4 months ago and ill be damned if i am deleting this answer I spent time on :)
A regression in one metric while improving in another(s) suggests a couple of possibilites to me
The first and most likely imo is your not testing long enough or with enough memory in your test parameters to make any errors show up. What stress testing programs are you using and how long are you stress testing after OC? Are you testing cold memory or hot memory? (I mean physically hot or cold - multiple stress tests and reboots over a period of time will sink in some heat to the modules and at the bleeding edge of stability a degree or two can be the difference between success and failure)
If your doing a quick 5 or 10 minute stress test and calling it good you may have undiagnosed errors in your memory which could give symptoms your describing. The errors could cause regression in one metric or all of them including latency. Many times Ive had one stress test pass and then ill fire up a different one and it will fail within seconds or minutes. Other times ive run multiple different testing apps and passed,, gamed a little and then retested and failed, most likely because of the heat issue I already mentioned. tREFI is particularly sensitive to this in my experience.
The other possibility is there could be some background tasks or activites the OS is doing without you noticing it. Depending on whats happening I could see that easily causing the behaviour you describe. This would be easy to rule out though with a quick task manager perusal. Know what your base/idle CPU and RAM readings should be (percent in use) and your storage system as well but remember to control for the fact that whatever stress testing utility your using will contribute to an increase in these categories of course. Obviously you want run to run consistency when stress testing any component.
Good luck!
EDIT One more thing - if you just cant seem to nail what should be an easy OC I would would encourage you to do a stress test on your RAM at stock speeds and voltages including system agent (VCCIO2) and VCCIO voltages just for peace of mind that your sticks are not defective, as well as your stick slots/mainboard/imc
Good info but you got to raise your recording volume. I could barely hear you with my volume maxed. Just subbed also.
Just a heads up, PDM and RTL is not on the z490 Vision G. Don’t know if that applies to the other Gigabyte boards. Just wanted to let people know
rip
U can just ask gb support for a bios with PDM option
@@mylostsanctuary I doubt gigabyte will send me a bios for an outdated motherboard. Pretty sure their focus is on the z590 boards now
@@jameyt1 i have the z590 aorus master and cannot find pdm and rtl
@@Cora630 yeah, unfortunately there’s not much you can do unless you can find a custom bios with those options. MSI boards have better memory oc potential than gigabyte
freethy i love what you do but i have question , i have 3200mhz cl14 bdie ram and z690 msi pro should its worth and safe to oc my ram i also have 6 intake fans and 3 pushing out
You should do a ddr5 one.
Where to get testmem5??? Pls help😅

Very informative, as always. If I may solicit a request for an AMD version of this video, I think it might help a lot of people out. As always, thank you for demystifying a lot of these esoteric tech settings!
Hey Fr33thy. I have a 12900KS and can’t get lower then 50.9. And the L3 cache latency sits around 16. Is it because I have the e-cores disabled or it’s just the way alderlake is on aida64?
My z690 with 13900k got 7000 mhz bootable , but only could get 6666 stable :(
I have a 8700k OC'd to 5.0Ghz at 1.35v, 4.5 ring clock
on a MSI SLI Plus mobo, with latest BIOs that allows up to 4000hz RAM speeds
Can anyone point me to the best (gaming) performing dual rank 2x16gb 4000mhz c15 kit?

G.skill trident 4000mhz 2x16 kit or ripjaws. Both are around 289-300usd. Difference is that ripjaws doesn’t have a temp sensor while tridents do
