I will be 75 next month and am thinking about building this for myself as a birthday present!
That would be awesome, I think I will be lucky if I am still rolling at 65. 👊👊
What a dream! I think its just time to stop what we are doing and chase the dream.
Haha didn't quite stop what I was doing, but chasing the dream is great. 😁😁
This Is Unreal. My Childhood dream is still alive! Thank you for the inspiration 🙏🏼 ❤️
Haha my childhood dream realised at 48. 😁😁
52 years turning 53...I'm still dreaming of my own ramp! So jealous!!!
Haha I know that feeling. I didn't get this until I was 48 , so you never know. 👊👊
JUST DO IT THEN!!
My dad helped me build a ramp in my backyard in 1985. Epic memories.
Took me until I was 48 to my ramp 🤣🤣
@@pearsing01 by 1990, I had made three. The last one that was in my parents backyard was 24feet wide 9.5 foot transitions and 10.5 feet tall. I just had a hip replacement. I'm a little sketchy right now. Being 52 is rough.
Tell me you're not a Kiwi. My moms dad(Grandpa Harding) came from NZ to the USA. I'm bad with accents. Cheers.
@@pearsing01 Sorry.. I just looked at your other videos. I have relatives in Australia too. Fuck it. I mean Cheers again.
@@reidellis1988 came from the UK to Australia 15yrs ago.
I've had 5 different ramps in my lifetime from 4 foot mini to 10 foot vert up to 32 foot wide. I love the building process and the first ride is the best. So happy for you. Black steel pipe coping is well worth the expense. I'm 54 now myself. Put up some lights so you can skate at night!
Yeah I really enjoyed the build too. 🤣🤣no lights neighbours are really close. 👊👊
this backyard ramp is incredible!
Thank you. I am still stoked on it myself 3yrs in. 👊👊
This is incredible! Seriously you're an inspiration. I'm 37, got back into skating last summer. I'm building a 2' mini ramp in my garage currently. Stay radical!
Thank you so much. It is rad that you are back. 👊👊. And having something that you can roll at anytime is invaluable. 😁
I built my 1st backyard ramp in 1973 and still building ramps at all my homes. Skateboarding over 57 years I always have my ramps.
Thats so rad. I hope I'm still rolling then. 👊👊👊
0:25 The infamous Schmitt Stix Ripsaw board upper right!
I had two of them back in the day. 😁😁
Good job mate, I’m 50 this year, I’m also jealous
Thank you, could still happen. 😁😁
this is incredible! impressed council hasnt said anything 😂
I did have a call from them but they were really good. I am quite respectful with times of use. And that helps alot. 😁👊
Love it!
Thanks mate. 👊👊
Amazing. Here’s to making our dreams come true!
Here here. 👊👊👊
Perfect sized vert ramp! Beautiful, well done 👍👍
Thank you. I find it the perfect size for learning lip tricks. 👊👊
Killer ramp ❤
Thanks mate. 😁😁
Use 2 layers of 3/8", stagger joints and bend in the short direction of the sheet. Sheets of ply are typically made of odd numbers of alternating ply directions, with the majority of ply grain running in the long direction - so naturally, bending along the short length makes it slightly easier.
I had two layers of 12mm(1/2in) marine ply. Was a mission to bend. Never thought of going sideways. I should have staggered more joints. Thanks for the tips. 👊👊
This might be bullshit but I’ve heard if you go longways it skates faster because you’re rolling with the grain. Though I’ve always gone short because it bends better.
@@carlosduran I have heard that too. Seems logical.
Great video. Miss my backyard miniramp.
Thanks mate. So glad I made the effort to build it. 😁😁
. Well done🎉
Thank you 👊👊
Sick! Well done!
Thanks mate. 👊👊
Great accomplishment... I bet it was a pretty happy day getting the last layers on and having the first skate.
Thanks it was as I waited for it to be finished before the first roll. 👍👍
this looks exactly like the yard from the goofie movie, crazy.
Haha not seen it . Might have to check it out. 😁
awesome
👍👍👍
AWESOME 😎👍🏼
Thanks mate. 👊👊
All the European ramps have 3 meter transitions which works out to about the same as yours. Thanks for putting this up because I'm wanting to do the same God willing. Blessings for 23.
It was the biggest tranny that I could get out of a single sheet of ply. I hope you get to build yours. It was definitely worth the time and effort. 👊👊
Awesome Brother!
Cheers mate 👊👊
Great video! Really awesome stuff
Cheers mate. 👊👊
amazing
It is. 😁😁
damn thats awesome! I have a backyard park from covid but couldnt imagine going that big
I am so lucky 3yrs in and still going strong. 👍👍
Well played sir
Thank you very much. 😁😁
very nice!
Thank you 😁😁
this will be me. i miss skating so much but im just not there yet. 35 trying to get my life back together
Make it happen mate. 👊👊 It has been so good to focus getting tricks back and just having fun doing it. I was 48 so heaps of time. 😁😁
That is sweet! I’ve just turned 40 and still want to build me own half pipe
Hey mate. Definitely worth it. It's the best thing I have done. 👊👊👊
Pretty cool to build that ramp when you’re older especially all by yourself. It’s a masterpiece I love it🦾🙌😇
Thank you so much. I still look out my back door in disbelief 🤣🤣
love the hosoi street in the background
agree
Thank you. Just reissues unfortunately, but I love them too. 👊👊
Been there Bro!! My neighbors sicked the city on me. Noise complaint and Code enforcement. And told the Cops I was giving Beer and drugs to the local Groms. I keep my booze and my drugs for myself 😂 Had to take it down😢57 on my way to Heaven!! 🤘🤪🤘
I have heard some similar stories. I just try to be as respectful as I can. And stay well inside the times for noise. 👍👊😁
Living the dream
😁 weather permitting 🤣
Nice! I turned 40 this year and put in a 15’ climb wall. Maybe I’ll put a half pipe in the yard when I turn 50 :)
Do it sooner if you can you won't regret it. Best money I have spent. 👊👊
@@pearsing01 I need a new yard first. I live in nyc, not much halfpipe space in these yards 🤙
Thats a fair call. Haha
Sussudio, Easy Lover, Don't Lose My Number, Tarzan Soundtrack.
Just when you think Phil Collins is done, he builds this massive half pipe.
The rolling stone gathers no moss.
✋️👁🤚💌
Haha I haven't had that on here till now. I have had that so much in the past. Guessing there must be something "in the air tonight ". 🤔 🤔
@@pearsing01 🤣🤣
Superb 👌 great work man ❤❤❤
Thank you. 👊👊
love this for you! hope you're still ripping
Thank you , I am still trying 👊👊
Looks incredible! I envy you, mate. 😛
Gotta say from experience, I would have built it higher up off the ground. I remember my own ramp being about 15cm off the ground; but, with the extra weight of the layers of plywood, it sank several centimeters and didn't allow for enough airflow which led to molding underneath.
Thank you. I did think about that, thankfully so far(nearly 3yrs)it hasn't moved too much.So it only has to last another few years and the I will be moving, so fingers crossed it should see me through.🤞👍👍
Rad !!!
😁😁
I know I'm really late to this party but here's some free advice anyway. You had the right idea by turning the 2x4 on it's side where the plywood seams would be. You just needed to
put a second 2x4 underneath it to form a "T". It's stronger than having 2 beams side-by-side and you get an extra 1/2" of face width to screw into. Why can't I have neighbors like you?
Thanks for commenting and you are so right. If I build another thats what I will be doing. Neighbours are cool. 😁😁
p.s if youre in britin u should meet up with jon bishop, u could go to his house and skate his mini and he could come to yours and skate the big vert ramp
Haha would be great to do a colabe with Jon distance could be a problem Australia Tot the UK. 😁
Schmitt stix ripsaw. First deck I ever broke!. I’m pretty sure I’ve still got the Gullwing trucks with some Bullets on em floating around somewhere.
Get yourself a reissue and set it up. 😁😁
@@pearsing01 I might just do that. I wonder how bouncy my 51 year old body is going to be compared to a 16 year old one?.
@@bubbleobill267 haha at 51 myself, not to bouncy. 🤣🤣 but in-between the not so bouncy bits it's a lot of fun. 👊👊
P.S i love that schmit stick ripsaw deck, u should get a vision jinx mini with the bat logo
I got the ripsaw because it was one of my first boards. Wouldn't mind a steve douglas . 😁
i had the schmitt stix street saw wheels in the 80s on a tony mag deck@@pearsing01
Board and wheels for me 😁
I love this build man! I understand it’s 20’ wide what about length from back of pipe to the other side? Total length?
Hey mate. Thank you 👊👊. It's about 40' I think 12.5m including platforms. 👍
I gotta amen your design your proportions (just the right amount of flat) and construction ( double 1/2" plywood ? With asphalt driveway paint? Plus top skin 1/4" painted, right? Solid build.
Thanks mate, yes two 12mm ply, top one stained as i rode the surface for a while., bitumen paint on the bottom worked well. Although I did my first repairs since the build and trying to get the screws out of the bottom was a pain. Top layer is a skatelite surface .
@@pearsing01 Ok, I got it. Thanks so much for the reply. Your design is pretty much what I had in mind, but maybe only 16 wide and 12 feet of flat. and that's going to be a squeeze. I feel like wide is nice but ought to go with a bigger transition too. I figured bending 1/2 ply would be a PITA but doable. Thanks for doing it and doing it solo and putting it up for inspiration. There's a ramp revival going on.
12ft flat should be fine. If you could go 20ft wide you would be happier 😁. Just depends on your available space. 👊👊
@@pearsing01 I will think about going wider. Thanks for your reply.
Good luck . Let me know how you go. 👊👊👊
RAD
It is so good. 😁
I’m interested in building one myself. Do you have a materials estimate?
I built mine just as covid started. And was around $15-17000 aus $
I hope this helps. 👍👍
Im 37 and can barely walk after a weeks worth of skating ha
😁 just keep putting the weeks together who needs walking anyway. 🤣🤣
Wonder about how much a vert ramp like this costs if you built it yourself?
I did build it myself and it was in the region of Au$17000 pre covid. 😁
@@pearsing01 wow 17grand? did a company build it or you did yourself?
I built this myself 👍👍
@@pearsing01 right on my bad I just seen were you said that earlier lol
@@ChildressPride 😁😁
What are the coordinates?
Australia 🇦🇺 😁😁
How much did it cost?
About $18 aus. And worth every cent. 😁😁
@@pearsing01 No way you only paid 18 dollars for all that wood
Sorry forgot the k. $18k.
im looking for other musicians to collaborate with
I will ask around. What are you into.
Where you at? You forgot to leave your address so we can become neighbors and best friends!
😁😁. Admin must have removed it . I am at *# @#!*&&&^^&&. Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 😁😁
@@pearsing01 Near Mega-ranch?
Not too far. 👍👍
Cost?
3yrs ago. Nearly $20k. But worth it. 👍👍
@@pearsing01 Daang thats a heavy price tag. But at least you saved yourself the cost of labor. Then again that requires actually knowing construction.
Worth every cent though. 😁😁
While you will be loving life, your neighbours will be depressed....
Did you speak to them?
My wife’s boyfriend actually lives down the street from this guy and he said most of the neighbors are cool with it
Thank you for the feedback that is great to know from an outside source. I try to be as respectful as I can.
Buzzkill
@@pearsing01lol maybe re-read what he said
no footage of it being skated, or even which country this is.
Hey mate. The ramp is in Australia 🇦🇺, nearly all of the clips on my channel are on this ramp, but it went from green ply to the redz skate surface. But still the same ramp. 👊👊
50 year old who isnt going to be enjoying life very much after skating a vert ramp at 50. Everyone ive ever known that built a ramp after 50, eneded up injuring themselves, and never skating again.
Thank you for your comment 🙏 I built the ramp at 47 ready for my 48th birthday and I will be 52 soon and I have enjoyed every minute of riding it over the last 4yrs. I will continue to do so as long as my body and mind let me. Injuries are unfortunately part of skateboarding so fingers crossed 🤞 I get away with it for a little longer , but if not we all know you have to pay to play. Thanks again. 👍
Love your ramp! Can I ask what the music is playing in your video? Skate on!
Thank you, me too. 🤣🤣. The first bit of music is from a freinds band The Somethings. From the 90s. And the music through the middle is just a generic piece from the editing system I use. Thanks and I will John. 👊👊👊
