  • There are now several versions of the amazing ATEM Mini, so which is the right one for you? Do you go simple and cheap with the original mini, or all the way to the ATEM Mini EXTREME? Let's look at the basic features of both and why you really want one or the other of these and perhaps not the "Pro" model in the middle.

I have a hard time recommending the mini now days. It was amazing when it came out as there was nothing like it without paying a fortune. I own one and I convinced my boss to get one for our IT Department as we do a bunch of live streams for the local municipality we are part of. There is also an event venue, that is also part of the municipality, that after seeing what we were doing purchased the mini pro. After helping them get set up I immediately regretted not getting one for IT.
Then the mini pro iso came out and for myself made much more sense for what I do outside of work, I was debating getting one for months when the Extreme iso came out. I immediately got one and don't regret it one bit. The iso recordings are a godsend when the client wants a post production recording on top of a live stream.
I run it in conjunction with a multi-track mixer iso recorder because the two 1/8th inch jacks aren't enough for many situations.
Now the SDI ones came out but I'm not getting one. I have and used a couple hdmi to ethernet adapters for long runs and they are good enough for my needs.
I do agree that the camera controls are useless for me. I'd rather have more macro buttons and the ability to control PTZ cams. Other than that I wish we could record 4k or better and balanced 1/4in jacks or better still XLR combo jacks. Native integration with an Elgato Streamdeck and or OBS would be nice too.
It would be nice to trigger OBS functions from the macro buttons and I hate having to use Companion to control the ATEM from a streamdeck. However if I could connect a streamdeck to a computer running OBS and ATEM software control to control both, it would solve a lot of situations that requires extra hardware.

For sound? Yes two 1/8” inputs.

You use the 1/8" inputs and in the software set the input to line level from Mic.
