Alanis is underrated to this day. Plays her own instruments, writes her own original music and evolved over a few albums, had great success to start but never did the same thing again and again. She just only did what mattered to her and is a great Canadian and person.
Wow. Props to Dave Coulier. The guy took it with maturity and grace. Kinda rate in Hollywood with people so obsessed with how “THEY look” in a situation like this.
I love how he's perfectly fine with this story, so much so that he did a gag on How I Met Your Mother about it. Robin was a Canadian pop star who did an "Alanis type song" about a Canadian star and they cut to Dave Coulier and he says, "Why does everyone always think it's about me?"

If someone's an older virgin, like at the age of 30 for example, it would be especially justified for them to do it and enjoy it, given how terribly long they've missed out on it compared to someone in their late teens, and not to mention someone whose 30 would be more likely to know the importance of safe sex than someone whose only 19.

And too his credit, he asked her what she wanted him to say if asked. Because for a long time - she refused to say who she wrote the song about because as she said on the Stern show "I didn't right it to reciminate him" (and in that same Stern show - they implied that Stamos was the one that told them) But now that Alannis basically told Dave that she did not mind him talking about it, so he could admit publicly all that fan-hate had the right target.

Yeah, if he had been a plumber, there never would have been a song... I think she got burned more by dating a person at the height of their fame than by Dave
@@bluehorseshoe444 she got famous because of that song.. not before
@@Imac7065 he was already famous when they were dating
@@bluehorseshoe444 she was a singer with mid level success before jagged little pill
@Imac7065 she was also 18 years old to his 33.. she was a kid dating a successful adult.. maybe that's why she felt so much rage when he left her.
Whatever, it's a killer song on a killer album which launched her career so good for her
Alanis is underrated to this day. Plays her own instruments, writes her own original music and evolved over a few albums, had great success to start but never did the same thing again and again. She just only did what mattered to her and is a great Canadian and person.
Selling 33 million copies of an album, and taking home seven Grammys, is literally the opposite of underrated.
Alanis is far from underrated!
Wow. Props to Dave Coulier. The guy took it with maturity and grace. Kinda rate in Hollywood with people so obsessed with how “THEY look” in a situation like this.
Wish the angry Alanis would make another record. Not really becuaee I want her to be happy. But man, sometimes the best material comes out of pain
Only when the author has authentic talent!!!🏆
That’s an answer ya give when you had a #1 hit song written about ya and ya sure AF don’t wanna go for a second song. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯💯💯
Seems like a really great guy. Stamos, Saget, and Coulier were the perfect trio.
I never liked Saget
Aww that was sweet of him to say that he hurt her. I like Dave a lot!
Even cheaters can realize they hurt someone I guess
Yes he could deny the obvious - but that would make him look twice as stupid...and mean.
That is the sweetest thing that a guy could do is to admit that he hurt her 😆
I am pretty sure at the point that she became more famous than him (with that album), he had no choice but to concede.
I love how he's perfectly fine with this story, so much so that he did a gag on How I Met Your Mother about it.
Robin was a Canadian pop star who did an "Alanis type song" about a Canadian star and they cut to Dave Coulier and he says, "Why does everyone always think it's about me?"
Given there was the show Full House, and Dave and Alanis probably dated around that time, and where this song was probably made at around that time, I find it inspirational that not all women just liked John Stamos. This chic Alanis really had a thing for Dave Coulier.
Yeah, and he cheated on her
@@Hoesmad42047 Why? Also, I stand by what I said that she was probably a good catch.
@@Steveman27 I don't think most people in Hollywood go by monogamy, they seem to hit each other up and pass each other around. It's safe to say she just didn't want that.
@@sirderp4925 Polygamy, or whatever anyone might want to call it, where they experience and enjoy sexual activity and sex with more than one member of the opposite sex, can be a good thing, and is generally something that everyone should do in their life where they do it with at least two of them, while of course being careful and responsible where they practice safe sex.
@@Steveman27 you didn’t say anything about her being a “good catch” in your original post.
The song reminds me of Carley Simon’s You’re So Vain where you wonder who it’s about and when you find out, you’re surprised. I wouldn’t have guessed Dave was like that at the time.
I think that song's about Warren Beatty.
I love that they teased about it on HIMYM, and Coulier was totally in on the joke. #RobinSparkles 🇨🇦❤️
Dave: “Why do you assume that that song she did is about me?!?”
Narrator (who happens to be Bob Saggat) : “Well, you ought to know” in a dead pan manner
Classic lol gold
Never knew all that Jagged Little Pill-stuff was about this guy!
One of the best albums start to finish in music history.
📌🎯🏹📢📍
Love how he knocks the question off about the theater 🫡🫡
"...that popcorn trick" LoL
Breakups suck. Even breakups between two good humans suck. Alanis gave us a great outlet for all those nasty feelings we feel when we leave a relationship.
Dude dude dude!!! What an awesome interview. The popcorn reference is gold baby!! Who didn’t try the popcorn trick!! 10 digity points for Dave!!
I’ve never tried the popcorn trick, that’s super gross
What a nice Canadian handling this very politely 😂
Honestly to have this kind of album made in honor of me, even if it was negative, would be an honor.
Relationships are hard and complicated. Very personal for the people involved. Art spawned from this one. Nothing wrong with that.
She went down on you in a theater, and you broke her heart.
Blowjobs don't last forever
Man, that's a pretty stand up thing to actually understand the song *AND* take the blame.
Incredible.
I love this song and it’s even better knowing it’s about Joey from my childhood show haha. The way he speaks highly of her instead of just painting her as “angry” or “crazy” says a lot too. Good job dude.
Two of my favorite Canadians. I wish they were still together.
I'm in a band w a female vocalist and we do this song. I have several nicknames for it; "bitter woman" or "hell hath no fury" song, LOL. It's an easy song to play on guitar but has an incredibley cool groove and vibe to it. It's one of my fav's to play...
Thank you Dave cause you made her a superstar and bestselling artist worldwide
What an awesome response - this guy is a class act!
Inspiration for two of her best songs, in my book. "Hands Clean" is the more impactful version of the relationship. It's a haunting, peppy, hypnotic song.
What part of our history is reinvented and under rug swept?
was Hands Clean about him as well? That's the one people really need to be talking about.
It probably isn't, that one is supposedly about someone who was involved in her musical career
Let's not forget Alanis also wrote songs about Ryan Reynolds. Dave was her "You're So Vain" song.
Which songs were about Ryan Reynolds
@@sabrinatiffany45 Almost all the songs on "So-Called Chaos." Out Is Through (them arguing and her realizing they have to face the problems head on), Doth I Protest Too Much (her pretending she doesn't get jealous when he admires other women), Knees of my Bees (an homage to him), Not All Me (her fighting with him but pointing out he's to blame for a lot of their problems), Spineless (about how she doesn't want to lose her independence 'cause she's in a relationship with a guy she really likes), Everything (about how they fight but how he also realizes she's great).
@@johnsmi213 I do remember the media coverage when Ryan cheated on her and they broke up. I’m gonna listen to those songs, thanks!
I think that any man who dates Alanis Morrisette is very brave knowing that she might write songs about him if it doesn’t work out! Ditto for any man who dates Taylor Swift!
He handled it in a classy way.
Alannis Morissette going down on Dave Coulier in a movie theater is the only reason I'm jealous of him
In several different forms, Dave was an integral part of my life for many years. Still love the dude. 💜
Oh, no I think I really hurt this girl...
Oh, no how much is my really hurting her going to cost me?
And, Coulier, don't pretend like you didn't know how much you hurt her. After hearing the songs on Jagged Little Pill anyone would know how hurt she was. We were all on the outside looking in, but you were there, you caused it and it wasn't necessary for you, uniquely, to have not known until hearing the album.
He respects her Dave has class most guys in his position would have bashed her and to top it off they both were young he speaks good about her that's a real man
He looks GREAT for 65!
It takes a real man to admit he wronged an ex, especially someone who is a good person. It is nice that they can laugh about it now.
I had no clue that Right Through You was about Dave Coulier also until he mentioned the handshake. Wow.
Dave Coulier lookin good. Happy for him and his family.
He’s being a nice guy about it and the 2 of them seem to seem to have made peace.
Wow that's crazy, but based on her lyrics she does seem very real and genuine. Great to hear what she did for his sister.
Bless you Jim for that question at the end of the clip.... fucking classic because I was thinking the same thing.
Very interesting.... and heartfelt about his sister....
Hes looking amazing
GREAT answer!!! 🖤
The fact that she and him could just bury the hatchet and be ADULT about it shows that they grew as human beings. Dave doesn't strike me as someone who would hold a grudge OR be ashamed to admit AND apologize if he did something hurtful to someone. I'm glad they could be grown folks about that whole thing.
Man aged kinda nice😂 good for him
What a gentleman, and Alanis is awesome.
She said he oughta know and he did in fact know.
People need to understand there are definitely 2 sides to every story. And this is entertainment. With that being said, I'm sure some of what Alanis put in her songs are true.
Loose use of the word "entertainment"....
Catharsis is more accurate
Yeah, Dave admitted it. He realized the album was about him, since much of what she sang about was true regarding him.
@@danman6669again, certainly there were things she did in the relationship as well, he’s definitely not being defensive so it stands to reason that he was reasonable while in the relationship
That's because the expectation of the relationship didn't match the reality of the relationship
There was a moment in time where this was the only song I'd ever heard of hers and knew who it was about. And it was just like, "is that Flea?" .
what a great story between Dave Coulier and a Canadian music icon, Alanis (Morissette)...
Great interview today guys
He seems like a truly decent guy, and still looks great. I'm sorry he hurt her, and I also love that song.
It’s not about him or anyone in particular. She has stated that in an interview … can’t recall who interviewed her but I think Pink was in the show too. No just looked it up it was Julia Styles, but also she has said it on Howard Stern show.
I just found out tlc confirmed that scrubs was also written about him 😂
😂😂😂
Lol are you for real
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@camm7985 can I get your snap?

Wow I had no idea....after all these years.
Norton! Never disappoints!
I know younger folks won't understand. But he just took personal responsibility for his actions.
You Oughta Know is like a text message you receive from an angry ex but the whole world gets to read.
I'm glad it went South, because we were blessed with one of the best alternative records in history
That album sacks dack
@@stormcorrosion176 lol agree to disagree, it's definitely not Metallica, but it was good for 95

Dave starts telling this beautiful story and these guys are like “yeah but the movie theater!” Gross.
Gross?
Agreed.
Isn't she the one who put it out there in the first place?
Do you not know who Jim Norton is?
I mean it is the most famous lyric in the song.
I had no idea that the song was about it. Kinda takes the edge off? Love the popcorn trick reference
Wait! He finally owned up to that song being about him?! After all these years! Dave seems like a cool guy, and I'm sure that romance was when they were a lot younger, I mean how old is that album now? I love Alanis, Dave coulier is hilarious, I wish them both the best!
I still can’t believe that song was about him lmao. He’s a hilarious guy and not bad looking but I just think of him as Uncle Joey from Full House.
I knew Jimmy was going to ask about the theater thing lmfao.
Alanis was way ahead of her times and her art helped many get through all sorts of heart ache ❤ Every interview I have watched shows her grace and humble attitude. As a 58 year old woman if I hear anyone referring to her as ang😂I know they're mirroring how they themselves feel and missed the unbelievable rawness to a young woman in the music industry . The music industry and Hollywood has discriminated from day 1 and sadly not much has changed. Just listen and count the songs by men and women it's so sad. Beyond that at least Alanis was white because women of color have way way more challenges. I make sure to research my artists to see what they stand for when purchasing their music. My 34 year old daughter just shared that she's grateful to be raised listening to quality music. We're attending her upcoming tour in MKE. To those who still need expansion in the music department look up Leah Lahkiah,Doechii, Margot Price, Kiki Rockwell, Grace Potter,
And too his credit, he asked her what she wanted him to say if asked.
Because for a long time - she refused to say who she wrote the song about because as she said on the Stern show "I didn't right it to reciminate him" (and in that same Stern show - they implied that Stamos was the one that told them)
But now that Alannis basically told Dave that she did not mind him talking about it, so he could admit publicly all that fan-hate had the right target.
Dave's an upstanding dude!
Killer final question lmaoo
I really feel like knowing what movie it was would enrich my life.
Class act.
I couldnt help but note that right after Full House ended she released that song.
When he heard it was he like,” cut, it, out.”
Pretty classy. Good job Dave.
Dave looking suave af.
lmao who could have thought You Oughta Know was about Uncle Joey from Full House
Hes a real gentleman
