This might seem weird, but as an english speaker, it’s kinda fun listening to scots-the language is so similar to english to where you kinda understand the meaning, but the words remain obscured by the veil of the language barrier. it allows for a delightfully active listening experience while also sounding mysterious and captivating. bravo!

I might be an America, but Scottish blood runs in my veins. Because music like this has always spoken to me more than anything else. After years of searching, I finally found out that my family came to America on a boat from Scotland a LONG time ago and I've traced my family back to the Scottish Clan Maclaren. Most of us have since then stayed on the east coast. And Like most Irish and Scottish immigrants back then, they dropped the "Mac" from their names. So Maclaren became Laren. And because many couldn't read or write, and because of the accent, over time it was changed, misunderstood and misspelled and became Laurence, then Lawson and then Laws as well as other variations. So if anyone has any of those last name or something close, then you MIGHT be related to them as well.

It’s been a hard year for me as well and your rendition of this is really comforting, like you described. The voice and something about the tempo really gets right to the heart. Glad you uploaded it here, and I hope it gets added on Spotify. The deepest of condolences about your father.

    Lyrics:
As I come in the Overgate I met a bonnie lass
She winked at me wi' the tail o' her e'e as I went rovin' past
Wae my toorin a, lilt fa laddie, lilt fa laddie torrin aye
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
I asked her if she'd come wae me and drink a wee bit wine
And as we walked along the road she out her haund in mine
Wae my toorin a, lilt fa laddie, lilt fa laddie torrin aye
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
Well she took me tae her sitting room a wee bit doon the burn
It's true what Rabbie Burns did say a man was made tae mourn
Wae my toorin a, lilt fa laddie, lilt fa laddie torrin aye
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
Well in then cam her hubby man wha hit me oan the heid
And then he ran me doon the stair and I thocht I'd end up died
Wae my toorin a, lilt fa laddie, lilt fa laddie torrin aye
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
Well I have lost my tartan kilt my watch chain and my purse
Says she I've lost my ain gid man and ye must admit that's worse
Wae my toorin a, lilt fa laddie, lilt fa laddie torrin aye
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
With my rovin' eye folla diddle aye, my rovin' eye dum a derry o'
