As an American with Scottish immigrant farmer roots that run deep through the rural midwest, I can't express how cool it is to see this! Thank you so much for sharing.
Lovely, always like listening to Sam. Great setting as well! Chords and lyrics below. Missing one word, help me out if ya can. Intro F C7 F C7 F Verses F C7 / C7 F (x2) Interlude F C7 / C7 F C7 F [Intro] [Verse 1] I am a lonely Scottish cowboy I'm stranded on this western trail I left my home way back in Glasgow Oh in the spring of 1864 [Verse 2] I was only the age of 22 When I set away upon the ocean blue I left my darling wee lassie On those bonnie blue thistle shore [Whistling] [Verse 3] I used to be a crafter's laddie Oh but now I'm all on my own And I was halfway through Texarkana When my wagon wheel, it turned no more [Verse 4] I think I hear those bandits coming They'll hae my heid, fore the morra's ower So run away, run away little doggie I don't let them take my last friend too [Whistling] [Verse 1] I am a lonely Scottish cowboy I'm doomed to die upon this western trail Oh no no no
@@musicalhealer2143 Didn't slow it down, but gaelic folk happened to have been my bridge out of the pop-country of my childhood. Without trying to put the accent into text, I instinctively heard: "They'll hang my head before tomorrow's over." First bit definitely sounds more like "hae" or "hail," but I think "head" is a decent contribution. Edit: vvvvv Damn! So close! vvvvv
Hey man, thanks for these lyrics! So I see there's a wee bit of confusion around some of the lyrics here so I'm just going to post the full and correct lyrics to this song below to clear it up! It's because some of the words I use in this song are in Scots, one of the languages spoken here in Scotland. I say "they'll hae my heid, fore the morra's ower" which means "they'll have my head, before tomorrow is over". Anyway, here's the full lyrics to this song: "I am a lonely Scottish Cowboy, Stranded on this Western trail, I left my home way back in Glasgow, In the Spring of 1864, I was only the age of 22, When I sailed away upon the ocean blue, I left my darling wee lassie, On those bonny blue thistle shores, I used tae be a crofter’s laddie, Now I’m all on my own, I was halfway through Texarkana, When my wagon wheel it turned no more, I think I hear those bandits coming, They’ll hae my heid, fore the morra’s ower, So run away, run away little doggie, Don’t let them take, my last friend too. I’m just a lonely Scottish Cowboy, Doomed to die, upon this Western trail, Oh no, no, no."
Love to hear this very simple chord progression with nothing more than a guitar, that I associate with traditional American country, mixed with his accent. Both very unique and lovely to my ears
It was pretty cool seeing Fandabi Dozi in the video. I've been watching him for a couple of years now. Love this song. Sam's voice and charm remind me of the old country and western I grew up with
My family came from Renfrewshire to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1874. Every generation has continued to grow up wearing kilts. Proud to be a Scottish cowboy!
I've loved both of your work separately! Now to find you've been collaborating these two years past! How did I miss it? Don't know, but keep it up! You're what's good in the world.
I love hearing Irish or Scottish people trying to do country. Traditionally most of its been hella cheesy but its never boring and some newer artists like CMAT are making it fun again.
My two favorite Scottish content-makers on RUclips? in the same video?? I was going through Sam Shackleton's videos as I do sometimes, and quickly said "Wait - is that Tom?? Oh my god, it IS Tom!!"
My fam came over in the early 1700s. I wish we kept the accent more than we did but the more I look into it the southern accent is a result of Scotland than I ever knew and proud of it. Baird and Cummin clan.
One of the best things about being a Patreon supporter is not that we get these videos as early releases, but we get to enjoy them again when they hit RUclips.
Any scottish people wanting to leave the UK and join Scandinavia: We're just waiting for you to take the first step. Norway us embracing your individuallity. We all feel the cultural connection in the core of our souls.
I'm one of the many descendants of the failed Scottish Cowboys of the midwest that never made it out west. They took our farms and shipped the jobs overseas but we are still hanging on.
In case anyone is wondering, these two guys aren't the average Scotsmen. We also have an abundance of jakies and junkies here which vastly outnumber the decent folk. However I am glad everyone is getting to see a glimpse of the beauty our wee country has to offer.

I come from Texan Scots. It's rare to meet another Scot hereadays. Too many Mexicans.
Great to see you branching out and reaching the UK. Love it ☺️.
He's brilliant on the harmonica too - his album version of this song is so good

Slowed it down a bit, but I believe it's "They'll hae my hate for the morrows o'er."

Always trust Gemsonvhs to show me artists I didn't know about.
Check out Sam's version of Cuckoo Bird, it's on this channel.
This man's range is just astonishing
It was pretty cool seeing Fandabi Dozi in the video. I've been watching him for a couple of years now. Love this song. Sam's voice and charm remind me of the old country and western I grew up with
His tunes and his clean fades are about the only reliable things in the world right now
FANDABI DOZI! What a crossover I wasn't expecting.
this goes hard
I get strong vibes of Hank Williams with a splash of Nick Soulders
This makes me think so much of the scene in Rio Bravo where Dean, Ricky and Walter Brennan sing ! Very much the same feel and pacing.

I've got major jumper envy now.

Love Sam's music, and Tom has always been a favourite of mine, his videos are grand. His approach to living history is fantastic.
Such a great performance again Sam, love the song. So pleased to see your album is out on Spotify too, love it
Sam "So much Swagger" Shackleton
That's a belter! Really impressed at the originality of the vocal style.
Such a good performance. Sam has incredible control of his voice
Sam is so authentic; talented and can't get enough of his music - thanks & love the video too, class!
Anyone have the chords for this? very interesting mix of country music with Scottish.
