Old Rosin the Bow (Traditional Folk Ballad) - Sam Shackleton
Singing a traditional folk ballad called “Old Rosin the Bow” at the beach on the beautiful Isle of Harris, Scotland. This is a class old folk ballad of Irish origin which is commonly sung across Scotland, Ireland, and the United States. I first discovered this song in John Lomax’s 1922 book “Cowboy Songs and other Frontier Ballads” and also through recordings of the legendary Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. This song will be featuring on my upcoming album, which will be announced very shortly - make sure to follow me on all platforms with the link in my bio to be the first to know! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If anybody has any corrections though please share and maybe we can work out an exact version together? Take care, Amigos! :) *Half Step Down Tuning* *Capo 6* (G) (AM) (C) (G) (C) (G) Oh come all ye tramps and hawker lads and gatherers oblaw (G) (EM) (G) (EM) That tramps the country round and round come listen ane and all (G) (EM) (G) (EM) I'll tell to ye a rovin' tale of sights that I have seen (G) (AM) (C) (G) (C) (G) It's far intae the snowy north and south by Gretna Green

In London city where I did dwell A butcher boy I loved right well He courted me my life away But now with me he will not stay I wish, I wish, I wish in vain I wish I was a maid again A maid again I ne'er will be Till the long green grass grows over me When she went upstairs up to go to bed And calling to her mother said "Give me a chair, so I sit down And a pen and ink, so i write down" At every line cried "Willy dear" At every word she dropped a tear Oh what a foolish girl was I? To be led astray by a butcher boy He went upstairs and the door he broke He found her hanging from a rope He took his knife and he cut her down And in her pocket these words he found: "Oh, make my grave large, wide and deep Put a marble stand at my head and feet And in the middle a turtle dove That the world may know that I died for love
