Yet another person who was largely inspired to start playing banjo from your gems video. Was also watching an older Clifton hicks video where he shouted out your cuckoo. Amazing music man!
my family is from the cumberland plateau in Tennessee. I got to explore around rock Island, climbed up to Stone door and grew up listening to a lot of Ralph Stanley. Gotta say, good one sam.
SAM! I love your music - your video on GemsOnVHS made me pick up my grandfather's banjo and start learning clawhammer. Happy to see you're back uploading!
Sounds great! I've heard some old field recordings that sound similar, can't recall who the players were, but you definitely have the same groove. ..and belated happy birthday!
This is awesome man! I seen the video from 3 years ago and thought nice this is solid! then watched this one and saw 3 years of progression in a couple seconds.
Hi Banjo Men,very amazing tuning of your Banjo very deep sounds great how low you tune it, id like to play in that key best wishes Grandpa from Switzerland🤠
Hey Sam. I was just in Edinburgh last week and I visited Captain's Bar and Sandy Bell's. I plan on going back soon. Any other pubs with folk music jams you'd recommend?
Hey Sam, any tips on how you developed your speed and precision when playing Clawhammer? I know practice is the main key, but any books or resources that helped you? Cheers and take care
Hey people check out "Jesse Stewart" from 🍁 Canada 🇨🇦 on You Tube. He was a folk punk and traditional musician and I adored his original songs as well. He passed away in Nov. 2021 but he was amazing!
Great ! So good! Tho for those of you asking… Sam seems to be a tad secretive re his tunings ( fair enough)….I have asked in various forums. Anyways I reckon Sam, being a likeable young chap ( and great banjo man) would get a zillion likes if he posted a few basic vids re tunings etc for his songs. But maybe that’s not his thing lol. Which again.. is fair enough!
Hey mate, thank you very much!! The banjo I'm playing here is a Gold Tone MM-150 I bought second-hand from a music professor in Dundee, Scotland - by far the best banjo I have ever owned and my main banjo that I use for performing! Cheers!
As a southerner of scots Irish decent this just feels right
fuck yes mate, thank you very much!!
