They played with such zest and spirit you know they can't be denied here, they can't be denied there and they couldn't be denied on any street corner in the world. Everyone would just stop slack-jawed and set their wheels t-whirrin.....and peace would reign upon the land!!
Only a fine group like this could still look good on a video of this cruddy quality. Does Cary Fridley have any more of these old videos tucked away? Would she please consider posting them? They are a national treasure!
Randy Raider I have the whole performance - it was released on VHS - I think there's 8 songs? if its no longer available through the Freight Hoppers contact me if you want and I'd make you a copy
Unfortunetly this line up was before the days of you tube- Cary should have a collection of all known video recordings from this time somewhere in her atic- we did some amazing live playing that would blow this away. Glad to have been a part of it. thanks for posting
the folk punk band Railyard Ghosts did a fucking awesome cover of this song if anyone's interested. idk if it's been uploaded though. prolly gonna have to DL the album. it's free.
My grandpa had a bluegrass documentary or some type of VHS that featured this very video we would watch out in the office of his junkyard. Anyone know what it was called?
I have yet to find many that do it the way my uncle does. There are a few who act kind of similarly down at the folk festival he frequents every year in Carolina, though. Damn good fiddlers.
David Fowler John Hartford had his own style that wasn't what I would call flatfooting. He didn't call it that either, I believe he called it clogging. Those terms are sometimes interchangeable, but the steps he used were very different than Dave here.
"seamus McGreevy" (see 3 months ago) wrote that he could make copies of additional videos - I tried to contact him to obtain them, but no luck so far. See if you can.
has to be my favorite rendition of this song
Amazing energy coming out of this band. I love old time music.
I adore Cary!!! Those other mugs is alright also... but Cary, da bestest!
I do believe this is my fav incarnation of this band
God damn it, I love this so much.
Just uploaded some clips of these guys jamming at Winterhawk BG Fest in 98'. Great band.
Love this so much!!

Hi Seamus - I would! Can Cary post them here? Or can you get them to me some other way? Many thanks.
The results of the 2024 election brought me here. I needed something in America I actually recognize.

Is there anyway that the Freight Hoppers can bottle this music so we can purchase it at the store? A 4 ounce dose will do. Very potent.
yes yes and more yes.
Holy hell they're good
There's no shine, like Moonshine!
(sorry been watching "Moonshiners" a bit too much xD)
KICKASS!
👍👍🐴
Anybody know any other fiddlers who flatfoot while they fiddle like David?

What festival is that?
I'm afraid I don't actually know the name >< We normally visit annually though.

John made an art form out of it!
