Jim Malcolm & Darren Maclean - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). The Story of the Scottish traditional music show.
Oh man, I look stupid right now crying. My wife and I used to go silly and sing this song while on the road travelling to wherever on a Saturday afternoon. All the memories just gushing in, super overwhelming. My darling, love of my life, passed away last year. Oh, if only heaven was that close, I'd walk 500 miles, and I would gladly walk 500 more.
I don't even know you but I'd walk with you just to keep you company...hope you find peace in your life..!!
Condolences for your loss.

I lost my dear wife also brother, it hurts but soon we will all be reunited 👍
John 5:28-29
God Bless you!
As I write this, I sit next to my wife as she lies helpless in a Neuro ICU in Charlotte, NC. As an Ulster Scot, but a Scot nonetheless, I truly needed this song right now. Thank you from the depths of my soul.
I don't know you, but I'm thinking of you and pulling for your wife. Please update us when you can!
Best wishes from Denmark.
Prayers from here for both of you.
Healing prayers for your wife 💕🙏⚘
Our love and prayers to you both, from South Australia 💕
My son-in-law is Scottish & Irish. He is struggling with cancer and this song is very uplifting for him. He listens to it every day.
praying he goes into remission
I hope that he is still with us and recovering, may God give him strength...❤
I Hope he gets better and the good thing is tell your son that I’m Irish and Scottish because I am ❤️
The Proclaimers created a gem of a song……it’s 2021 and EVERYONE is still singing this amazing song!
2023 now and still going strong
2024 now and still going strong
If this doesn't put a smile on your face... you need to walk 500 more miles.

It's not easy to do that. 100 was exhausting.
My late husband was a Scotsman and I am proud to have strong Scotch/Irish heritage too. He was adorable in his kilt outfit. How I loved that man!🖤
I think you were probably very happy together. Glad you had each other and were together for however long the time was that you had.
@@KittyStarlight Thanks Kitty. I had been a widow to my first husband who was a wonderful man. I had sworn I'd never marry again, but 4 years later, God had other plans, thankfully. They were alike in their character and morals. We visited Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where his relatives from Scotland had migrated after the Highland Clearances. I wish we'd had the chance to visit Scotland. Take care!
Thats so sweet
@@nadinehoogenboezem4798 Thank you love!🎃
❤️
It's a rare thing to find a song cover that is both faithful to the original ad yet just as good. And this is.
How perfect is that? The Proclaimers have written a song to be sung in Scotland for the next thousand years. Thanks for the Tune-up, Malcolm. and Maclean.
We are currently on a cruise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. We had an onboard party yesterday and this song was played. I've heard it before. I swear every Scotsman got up to dance and it was very energetic! Great song. Great people.
This makes me proud to be Scottish, and I'm not even Scottish.
I'm with you on that, and I'm French!! :-)
hahahahahha
Buy a tartan, instant Scot every time
🤣🤣🤣
🤣
No matter what mood you are in , this song just puts you in the best mood!!!!!

For my beloved wife untill the day we meet again in Jesus' arm.. I'll keep listening to this. This was the song I sang and you said yes. Missing you much.
Praying for your missing piece in your heart right now..... Goodluck w/the chapter
That brought a tear. Sorry!
I love this song, what woman would not! This was the song my husband chose for us to karaoke to. Love it!
This song will always be better in a Scottish accent.
so true
no doubt, I just watched some guy turn this song into a Lullaby
Those are Scottish accents.
lol.
Beatrice Villaflor from a English person it is a great accent well done Scotland uk for ever together we are better 500 miles great
I am from Angola and lived 6 years of my life in Scotland, Aberdeen where I graduated from RGU. I have Scotland as my second home. I met people who are as part of my family and I am as part of their family.
This song take me back to the land of my precious single malts, my beloved Scotland.
I love it that there’s no tattoos nor overdone muscles just lots of people dancing and having fun. 😃
As an American Scotsman this song touches a part of my heart and soul that bagpipe music touches. I am proud of my Scottish heritage and me and my children went to Scotland in 2006 and I have never met a more welcoming, warm, and generous people.
como argento mezcla de todo tu orgullo me lo paso por el culo
You would probably really enjoy Dougie MacLean singing Caledonia then. Glad you liked it over here.
Great to read your comment. I left Scotland in 1978 but am fortunate enough to visit every year to a "wee hoose" I still keep there. I love the countries in which I have lived, but my heart still pulls be back to Scotland. Alba gu brath
I would love to go to Scotland. Maybe there is a Scotland in Heaven. If not, my family of Scots are there waiting for me.
3am. 75 years old. Cannot get this song out of my mind❤ thank you❤
I saw The Proclaimers sing this at Edinburgh Castle in front of a home crowd last year. Trust me. That was the best version.
😃 Yeah! That had to be awesome! 😃
Absolutely without a doubt
But.. Wouldn't it have been better if they came on and said..
"Today we are looking through the triangle window, and what's there kids? It's a wee song about walking a lot.. Here we go"...
Lucky
The original is always best
The man on right has the marvelous STRONG accent/brogue. LOVEEEE IT.
I love the self confidence of the young man in this duo, that smile is wonderful!!

@afrodamus Ya it gives me goosebumps the way that chorus sounded!
It sounds very much like a studio recording with pitch correction. I'm pretty sure they're lip syncing here. In fact at 0:19 I can hear the undesired artifacts from autotune. When he says "goes along".
@@ViaticalTree Yes you could be correct
@@ViaticalTree What do you mean by undesired artifacts? I listened to that part multiple times, but I couldn't pick up on it.
As someone who possibly has adhd, I’m always on the lookout for new songs to listen to. Music is how I cope with possibly having it. The more peppy the tune is, the better I feel.
I'm somewhat similar: i can't get into a game without it having a good soundtrack. if there's no good songs in the game, I fail to get into it.
I'm Italian, but my land is definitely Scotland.🏴 I love so much Scotland and Scottish people ❤️. When I came back in Italy I wanted to cry.
You gotta admit they fucking nailed the harmony
Yes they did and it is glorious
***** Am I right?! XD
+mbanana23456 How do they do that?
+RiflemanListens practice i suppose
Kalpit Valesh Makes sense...
As an american, I would pay a significant amount of money to have a scottish accent.
So would i
Amd iam one quarter scottish
As an Italian, I would pay a significant amount of money to understand what a man with a Scottish accent is telling me.
So would i
me too!
I’m not even Scottish but this song makes me wanna be Scottish!!🥰
I LOVE the way they speak
The driving and infectious rhythm, the rich harmony drenched in Scottish brogue, all done while rocking their kilts...
If you can listen to this without eanting to walk 500 miles yourself then get to the ER quickly. You might actually be dead!
Dr O'Boogie it’s a poor rendition of the original it makes you boak when you listen to this put on Scottish accent
BRILLIANT SONG--never grows old never sounds dated or stale and always brings a gleam to your eye.
I was doing one of those charity walks - the Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day where you walk 60 miles in 3 days. I had speakers hooked up to my backpack and was blaring this song as I was walking along the route. The best part was people along the route cheering us on and singing along with the chorus and especially the "da-da-da-da" parts. It really lifts the spirits when you've walked 18 miles in a day, your feet hurt and you're trying to make it that last couple of miles to that day's finish line. This is an amazingly powerful song. The first 9 years I did this walk I logged the first 500 miles and in almost a decade since then I have added 500 more. I have literally waIked 1000 miles to this song!
I sooooo love these guys! I am scottish decent from america (67 years old in oregon usa) and this song is soooo meaning for me! It is a powerful song that reaches my generational psyche!
I didn't expect that anyone could a better cover of the Proclaimers classic. This, however, blew me away. The energy if right where it should be. What a great effort guys.
i would move to Scotland just because of this song
Good decision. 👍🏼😎
Lived there, its cold and rainy like 340 days a year :P
i listened to it 500 times...and will go for another 500 times..fell in love with Scotland
This song is so god damn Scottish and it's beautiful.
+SeaBiscuit No reason to use God's name in vain.
Ron Kidwell God doesn't exist, I can use a fictional character's name in whichever way I please.
+SeaBiscuit This song is so Harry Potter damn Scottish and it's beautiful. haha ;)
Luath ... No. What?
+SeaBiscuit Harry Potter is another fictional character like God mate.
Real men wear kilts! Great cover; definitely one of the best I’ve ever heard. ❤️ from California!
Aye, but you have to take a wee peep underneath the kilt to see if the person wearing it is a true scot. If he's as naked as the day he was born he' the real deal!
I never get tired of listening to this version.
The Scottish make anything sound great!
you are right. We do make everything sound a wee bit greater!!
I come back and watch this at least once a week! They make my heart so happy!!! ♥️
Irish guy here, my late Dad lived in Glasgow as a young man, he was a big Bhoys fan, as are all of our family. Haven't met my distant Scottish cousins in a long time, but I can't wait to see them again...Oh, and my God-mother was Scottish to...May God bless Scotland, our Celtic cousins...😄
I'm gonna listen to it again.

@James Waddell He is English probably, right?
There are a great number of great Scottish singers and musicians - great people loved by the 55,000 Kelly Clan. God bless Scotland.
My grandmother was Scottish! So I’m a bit Scottish. I loved that song and how the singers presented it. 😍
I’m Scottish, and I love this version! 💕😘
I'm a Austrian (not a AUSTRALIEN guy) but who care's , i love scottish music and especialy this song.Best regards from Austria !
This song is best while wearing a kilt.
Keaton Smith, And WAR is best fought while wearing a kilt.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
My Grampa fought with The Scottish Highlanders in WWI. His brother died beside him, but, red-headed Lauchlan Stewart survived a long life, albeit, he came home from the war with only one arm and several deep and long scars.
The man loved to sing! Grampa patiently taught the milkman’s loaned horse to plough with only one arm...and the horse would come trotting to Grampa when he sang out across the pasture.
Keaton Smith - great idea!I have 4!

I'm Scottish. I was always told that I was Irish due to my red hair and green eyes. I took a DNA test and found out that I am almost 100% Scot. I love this music.
From the Viking raiders.
Same here but my DNA is 24% Scot and maternal Viking Jasmine haplogroup.
I have watched this so many times, and cry every time, my excuse is I am Welsh, living in Perth WA We are an emotional nation!😊
I love this song and this is a fantastic rendition of it!
Oh my gosh. I thought I was in heaven. This is awesome music. I could listen to this song nonstop
Same here and i do. My wife has actually threatened to throw the t.v. out the window if i don't give it a rest. My response was to turn it up full blast on the home theater system...
...perhaps the most sincere and beautiful love song humanity has ever created...
i love how the big lad on the right really gets into the theatrics of the performance
2:00 a highlight
I like this song and I need to hear it every time I feel down. With Love from Sweden
I've met Jim Malcom in person multiple times. He's a great guy.
Where do they perform? I go to the UK every few years to see my husband family in Leeds... would love to see a show
@@ladylion189 He's well worth seeing. I have seen him many times. He comes to Washington State about one a year around Valentine's Day.

I loved ♥ this music 🎶 from the first time I heard it.
Such a great song. You can’t help but sing along with it !!!
This song makes my soul happy.
i would walk 500 miles to watch this live
agree
Would you walk 500 more?
YES!
Rahim Abdelli I would to
we all could have a little group that will walk 500 miles and 500 more.
Who is up for that????
So glad to find people find this song as brilliant as I do!!!
First video I ever saw of them performing. Took an instant liking to them. Nothing fancy, just good old comradery. Such on stage character. Facial expressions, even of those not singing at the moment. How they react to (look at) the one singing (telling a story). They all look they enjoy each other and what they are doing.
I had heard this song "in the background" for many years. Then one day I noticed how The Proclaimers pronounced the word "thowsand" and I was really hooked. There's something about a Scots accent ...
Gets my Scottish blood flowing. MacLeod of Lewis. Mothers side. And proud of it.
This made me think of Mrs. Turek, a proud Scots woman from my home town. My neighbor is long passed, but the memories this video brought out are sweet. Thank you.
As an Englishman, I wish we showed this much national pride. God bless you all, and those 500 miles would be privileged to have your feet walk upon them.
Never tire of this version!!!
I Love this Song so much.👍🏼😊
The best part of not being born in Scotland is being able to tecognize how truly beautiful the Scottish accents are and not have worry if you are being narcissistic . Nobody handles the English language more beautifully than a Scot.
I could actually hear the words as they sing. I finally get this song.
Been listening to this the entiiire day and I'm officially in love with this song.
If I was there I would be the only one standing up and singing!🤗🤗😮🎤 I'm not ashamed

Their blend is absolute sibling-like perfection.

I’m English but this song always gets me going. My wife is half scottish so maybe that is why. That is great. Can’t wait for this lockdown to finish so we can go and revisit bonny Scotland. X
I keep watching this video because it is a wonderful example of Scottish pride and energy. I am a YORKSHIRE girl, Oh how I wish we had a song as brilliant as this to represent us.
