I saw a couple of RUclips videos where alternative options as an additional headphones box/amp (?) connected to mixer were mentioned. From it monitor mixes are sent out to band members over their headphones. Also if you could please explain in your excellent calm and easy to understand basic things manner, as to what other equipment might be required in my situation, it will be appreciated greatly. I would prefer to purchase the equipment in the US (music stores I know well) and ship it with our household items. Separately and as background, I am trying to make and record music compositions for myself. This is all a hobby at this stage. For this I have an IMac, Garage Band, Apogee Duet 2 audio interface and Adam Audio S3XH monitors. I do have numerous guitars, guitar amp, floor guitar effects processors, and keyboard (Korg Kronos2). Thank you for your kind attention and looking forward to your reply. I'm not technically adept but happy to learn always.
Hi I learned a lot from your channel and I really appreciate that thank you so much I have one question in recording what’s best way to record vocals in DW many thanks
Such a great 3-part series on this mixing board! Really helped me get up to speed. You mention that we shouldn't use just the USB output of the board to record a live gig, and your explanation as to why not makes sense. Do you have a recommendation on how to properly record a live performance from a typical rock/pop cover band? Thank you!!!!
Hi Bryan - this is quite an involved topic, and there are as many ways to do this as there are recording engineers 😅 The 'proper' way to do it, to use your choice is words, would be to record every input separately, to a hardware or computer-based multitrack recorder, including ambient microphones for the audience, and then remix it in a studio at a later date to create a 'proper' live album. In the real world, it's possible to simplify this process by combining the LR feed from the mixer with a pair of ambient mics or even the built in mics on a handheld recorder, to produce a result that is perfectly acceptable. More advice here, which might be useful to you: www.prosoundweb.com/backstage-class-how-not-to-record-a-live-album/
Nice one sir, please how can you set your monitor or stage from your aux will you come from power amp to aux. Another question how can you set your bass with the stereo left and right without pan
The second question is this, can you set your sound without panning it left or right, Meaning am using right for voice and left for baas, voice from compressor to mixer while left from crossover to mixer, which means right is for voice and left is for bass will i pan it or teach me how to set it from mixer to compressor to crossover to power amplifier
@@GLBProductions there is a new mixer the church am setting sound bought newly am go to set it on Thursday morning teach me how to set it too, Yamaha 24 channels but i don't know the make but the control falders and group, aux are in the center of the mixer it also have 10 mix out apart from st out please help me to set and balance it
i watched all of these 3 parts, thanks so much! learned a lot from this, also cool side information about how metal reverb in. 'the old days' was made and stuff like that
Quick question (MG20XU) how do you get an effect onto a monitor mix (Aux) so, for example, a singer has a bit of reverb in their own monitor mix? Excellent series of videos -many thanks.
Thanks for this. Question: White Aux 2/fx dial. I use Aux 1 and 2 for stage monitors. Turning the dial for Aux 2 clockwise increases the line/channel output through my monitor. But can I add fx (fir vocal) to the Aux 2 monitor mix, and increase fx without increasing the channel/line volume through the monitor (or vice verca) 😊
Very interesting. You have a very good pronunciation and a nice way of talking. I learned a lot. I recommend that this video should be watched with good speakers. Your demonstration is absolutely clear, but the rendering at home may vary according to the quality of the source of sound.
Thanks Franz - yes it is the responsibility of the viewer to ensure that their playback system is of reasonable quality, whether speakers, earphones or headphones. Otherwise it's like looking at a painting through a cracked and dirty window 🤣
This is a great tutorial! I love the way it's been discussed from part 1 to 3. Question on usb connection, will the laptop have a delay in receiving the signal? I'm planning on having it as a mixer foe livestream.
This was a great tutorial. Does anyone know if you could mix down from your DAW by sending audio interface outs to mixer channel inputs and main mixer outs back into the DAW via the audio interface?
Sir, Good day. where can I adjust the knobs for the monitor put, the one you mentioned for recording or studios? thank you so much sir, best teacher for mixer ever. God blesses you more sir
Thanks for your great tutorials. Our mixer is going South one channel at a time, and we ruled out the cheaper but more complicated mixers (Mackie and Behringer) in favor of the MG20XU. We have ordered it, but now I understand that there can be no effects routed to a monitor bus. ( I just assumed there would be) Our lead singer requires "wet" signal in her monitor. Is there a way using a patch cable out of aux4 and back into one of the stereo channels to send effect to her monitor? Thanks
Hi there Frank. As you have discovered, there is no way to send the output of the internal FX unit to the monitors on this mixer - even if you ran a cable from aux 4 output back into a channel that would only give you the dry signal. If you must have effects in your monitors I suggest getting an outboard/rackmount FX unit and using it instead of the internal FX.
Just small correction for the end of the video. You can control attenuation of sound signal received through USB cable by pressing Program (Effects) rotary know 5 times, and then set attenuation from -24 db to 0 db, and press knob again to confirm your settings.
This is a known issue with this mixer - the only way to deal with it is to raise the level of the channel gains and/or channel faders above normal operating levels - this will raise the level of the USB output but will also risk distortion. Alternatively, use a separate USB interface with a higher output level.
This guy is really helping me out here, excellent instructions, my One question is I use this exact mixer for my band, and we have all recently Gone to in ears monitors. However I’ve noticed Aux 4 on the channels is also the fx knob…. How do I work this as a monitor for a musician if the same button also controls the fx on the channel?
Hi there Chloe, thanks for watching. Aux 4 is designed to be used as either a post-fader aux send OR the send to the internal effects, not both at the same time. Based on your RUclips channel, your band appears to be only three people, so three aux sends may be enough for your needs 😊
I have really appreciated your tutorials on these mixers , very informative, thank you . I now am contemplating a mixer / multi channel interface combination for recording full drums . Any suggestions? Thank you .
You're welcome Kerry, thanks for watching. I'm not a recording engineer, but something like one of the Zoom Livetrack mixers might be suitable for your purpose. There are many options in this space though.
Hi GLB, I have a question and I hope you can answer. We have MG20XU in our church and I am using the Aux 1 and 2 for monitor speakers. The problem is I don't hear the built-in effects when using these aux sections. I haven't tried aux 3 and 4 but of course I will use aux 1 and 2 because they are pre-fader aux. Have you ever tested it with your MG20Xu? Do you have a solution for my problem?
Yes Lester, on this particular model the internal effects can only be routed to the main LR outputs - there is no way to route them to the aux sends. If you need effects in the monitors you will need to connect an external FX unit.
Great series of videos!!!, I have the MG16XU and have a question, why the AUX 4 can be use as a stage monitor output? controlled by the white knob, it can't send audio to the 4th monitor with no FX. Thanks!
Hmm, what exactly happens when you connect your AUX 4 output to the stage monitor system? Remember that aux 4 is post-fader, so the channel fader and the aux 4 master knob must be up for signal to pass through.
Good day. I Really enjoyed this series and have learned a lot. I recently purchased the MG06X model and i hope that you can assist me with something I'm trying to work out. In church I play the drums (electric). I ran the drums to the MG and then to the main mixer. I then ran an Aux send from the main mixer to the MG for the sound that I want.(guitars, Keyboard Vocals). I'm trying to do this without having the aux feed looping back to the main mixer on the drum channels. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Haeley glad the video has been helpful. I know what you're trying to do: on a larger mixer you would use an aux send to direct the return from the main mixer to your drum monitor but unfortunately on the MG06X this is not possible - it's just too small a mixer.
In one of your earlier videos in how to connect two analog mixers, you showed us the tone tester. Can you explain to me what test tone level is for which device? I think I'm going to get my hands on one. Thanks.
Thank you for the videos. It was a big help for me on how to properly operate our church's ALTO LIVE 2404 mixing console as a volunteer musician/mixer operator. By the way, we also have the YAMAHA MG16XU version. Can I ask if is it okay to plug in 4 stage mons in one aux send? We're using all powered speaker.
Glad to hear the videos were helpful James :) Yes you can connect all your stage monitors to one aux send, just bear in mind that they will all carry the same monitor mix.
I have this mixer that i am powering with a 6000 Watt 4-channel power amp. I also have a powered subwoofer. Where would I plug that into the mixer, since I don't want to send a powered signal to a powered speaker? My mains and monitors are passive
Thank you So much Mr. Bruno.. I got a big help to operate my Mg166cx after this tutorials.. found so much things to do without any hassle. Just one question. I have pbm to understand about PAN knob. If I am using rca connector from mobile than the knob is sending audio from left side only. Can you pls explain me....
Hi, great tutorial, I have the MG16XU. I have a question, I HOPE you can help. AUX4 is used to control the effects level. But I need aux 1-4 to be sent to a headphone amp. Can I use aux 4 for an aux send to the head amp with no fx BUT still run effects thru the mixer across all channels??? Please help!! Thank you
Hi Mike, you can do that but the issue you will run into is having the internal effects and aux 4 on the same send - when you increase the amount of effects for a particular channel you will also be increasing the send to the external device, which may cause problems, especially if you are using it to feed in ear monitors.
@@GLBProductions thank you! Having the onboard effects linked to an auxiliary is redundant I think. It ties up a send and becomes unusable. The fx gain should be independently controlled per channel.
I think the idea behind the design is to give you a choice: four aux sends or three aux sends plus one FX send. If you need four aux sends AND internal effects you need a bigger mixer than this ;)
Our church uses harddiskogg (open source) which can record continuosly to MP3. This has the advantage of zero save time, reduced file size (no chance of running out of disk space), and if there is a power failure you still have everything up to that point. It has metering and AGC.
@@hanabibebecina3884 Yes you could, but if there are multiple instruments and your mixer supports multitrack recording, then that is probably a better option so that you can master the tracks individually afterwards to balance their gains (volumes). If you don't have a multitrack recorder you can record in stereo with two mics. If you want to record a particular instrument at the same time you can even just record using your phone, just set it to record to WAV at the best quality. These days the mics in phones are so good (electret flat freq response).
Thanks, we use one of these at our church. I tend to record the whole mass, including any muso's. As you said the band recording can be a poor representation especially if they use guitar amps etc, that are not mic'd, however some of our performers are all through the PA and record well, and we use the recordings for other masses where there are no other options available. At times I prefer the local recordings over a CD, as it was "performed for us". I try and mix bands more as if they are being recorded, so the mix is the 'full' sound of them because the band is off to the side and only those "over there" will get the direct band sound where as quite a lot of the rest of the congregation far from the band will get a 'strange' sound if it were mixed to only augment their direct sound. (not present to most)
Hello. Your tutorial is very good. I learned alot from your videos. I am still having some issues with the volume when I stream it online. Do u have any suggestions? I'm using the 16 instead of the 20 like on the video.
Volume when streaming online is tricky because each listener has their own volume control - there will always be some who complain it is not loud enough and others who say it is too loud. Using some compression is helpful in order to increase the average level.

Thank you for your tutorials. They are very well done and I learned a lot. Stay fit!
You're welcome, thanks for watching 👍🏻
I'm really enjoying watching part 1,2 and 3 and have learnt many things, thank you so much.
You're welcome, glad the videos have been helpful :)
still one of the best training videos. I use for training, reference...KUDOS
I appreciate that Damon!
the whole mg20xu season was resourceful
Great to hear that :)
Thanks for your help. Very much needed. Now I finally know how to work my mixer
That's great Victor, all the best with your music!
I really appreciate this presentation - It is very clear and I learn very much and very easy. Thank you
You're welcome Kinsley, thanks for watching :)
Hi I learned a lot from your channel and I really appreciate that thank you so much I have one question in recording what’s best way to record vocals in DW many thanks
Thanks Shafiq! What is DW please?
This makes me wanna take your class... So nice!!!!
Yes we always have lots of fun! 😊
Thank you. Brilliant manner of teaching.
You're welcome, thanks for watching :)
Amazing teacher and teaching! Thank you! 🙏🏿
You're most welcome :)
looking at 16 channel model among others good clear demonstration of board and basics on all boards, thanks.
You're welcome Rob, the MG16XU is a very competent entry level mixer and good value for money.
Yes, aux output into the power amp for your monitor loudspeakers. I'm afraid I don't understand your second question.
Ok sir thanks
The second question is this, can you set your sound without panning it left or right, Meaning am using right for voice and left for baas, voice from compressor to mixer while left from crossover to mixer, which means right is for voice and left is for bass will i pan it or teach me how to set it from mixer to compressor to crossover to power amplifier
Also teach me how to set aux with compressor crossover to power amplifier, thanks and God bless you for the first teaching, i appreciate
@@GLBProductions there is a new mixer the church am setting sound bought newly am go to set it on Thursday morning teach me how to set it too, Yamaha 24 channels but i don't know the make but the control falders and group, aux are in the center of the mixer it also have 10 mix out apart from st out please help me to set and balance it
Watched all three parts - very informative! Thanks!
i watched all of these 3 parts, thanks so much!
learned a lot from this, also cool side information about how metal reverb in. 'the old days' was made and stuff like that
You're welcome Kearl, thanks for watching!
Quick question (MG20XU) how do you get an effect onto a monitor mix (Aux) so, for example, a singer has a bit of reverb in their own monitor mix? Excellent series of videos -many thanks.
On this particular model that is not possible - the internal effects can only be send to the main LR outputs.
@@GLBProductions Many thanks.
what a great tutorial we have the same mixer in our chapel thank you for some great information god bless from ireland
You're welcome Brendan, glad the video was helpful 😊
This class session is ideal!
Thanks for watching John!
This was so helpful! Wish this installment had close-ups of the mixer though, that’s all.
Thanks for watching Wendy.
Very informative. Thank you so much ✌️
You're welcome Matthews!
You're welcome Georgia. On this particular model it is not possible to send the internal FX to the aux sends, only to the main LR mix.
love this..what a great teacher
Thanks for watching Tobi!
You rock Brutha! Very helpful vids for me as I just got my new Yamaha MG12XU
You're welcome Wyatt!
I am weak in English...
but I can understand ur talk...
Thanks...
I never see same like presentation
Glad the training video was helpful.
Great Tutorial with a touch of Fun...
Thanks for watching Peter!
Sir , you explained excellent .
You explained the Subject in very deep , it is awesome .👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
But make the video little bit small Sir .
Glad the video was helpful!
awesome series. thanks for going through the MG20XU. Anyone know what depressing (having it up) the USB button does to the USB feed?
You're welcome Anthony. If the LINE/USB button is NOT engaged the incoming USB audio goes nowhere :)
This is a great tutorial! I love the way it's been discussed from part 1 to 3.
Question on usb connection, will the laptop have a delay in receiving the signal? I'm planning on having it as a mixer foe livestream.
Glad the videos were helpful 😊 There is a delay of a few milliseconds in the laptop receiving the signal - not a problem for live streaming.
This was a great tutorial. Does anyone know if you could mix down from your DAW by sending audio interface outs to mixer channel inputs and main mixer outs back into the DAW via the audio interface?
No, this is not possible - the interface on this mixer is only 2-channels in each direction.
The best lecture on MG20XU. Dear sir I was waiting to know how to connect stereo (red and white) cable from laptop or mobile to mixer.
Thanks for watching! I have a video on this subject: ruclips.net/video/ge4Iynh4rcc/видео.html
Thank you.. 🙏😊Great information with straight to the point narration.. Best wishes... 🖐😊
Sir, Good day. where can I adjust the knobs for the monitor put, the one you mentioned for recording or studios?
thank you so much sir, best teacher for mixer ever. God blesses you more sir
It's the knob labelled "Monitor level" located just below the meters on the right edge of the mixer. Thanks for watching!
@@GLBProductions
Can I assign her channel to both "ST" and a sub? If so, what about using the sub-out as her monitor send....complete with wet signal?
How do you plan to get the wet signal into the subgroup out?
@@GLBProductions
By turning the knob?
Don't the subgroups have effects?
Just small correction for the end of the video.
You can control attenuation of sound signal received through USB cable by pressing Program (Effects) rotary know 5 times, and then set attenuation from -24 db to 0 db, and press knob again to confirm your settings.
Yes Max you are correct - I have since updated this lesson to include the digital attenuator function :)
I have band practice in 5 hours and I feel like a pro now!
Very detailed. Thank you for this video. Please the output volume using the USB is low, any suggestion what to do in this situation?
This is a known issue with this mixer - the only way to deal with it is to raise the level of the channel gains and/or channel faders above normal operating levels - this will raise the level of the USB output but will also risk distortion. Alternatively, use a separate USB interface with a higher output level.
awesome this series answered a lot of my questions :)
Glad to hear that Rudy!
Amazing presentation - thank you sooo much
You're welcome Sheffair.
Thank you sir for this knowledge I use Yamaha mg32/14 I didn't how to operate it well now I can
You're most welcome! All the best with your music :)
This guy is really helping me out here, excellent instructions, my
One question is I use this exact mixer for my band, and we have all recently
Gone to in ears monitors.
Man this is fantastic
Thanks again for watching Matt.
thank you sir for this informative video, i got an idea now with my MG16XU..
You're welcome Dulos.
@@GLBProductions Thank you so much! I've been watching your videos for years.
You're welcome! I should have a couple more videos coming out in the next month or so.
@@GLBProductions ..Thanks for your reply. All the best.
In one of your earlier videos in how to connect two analog mixers, you showed us the tone tester. Can you explain to me what test tone level is for which device? I think I'm going to get my hands on one. Thanks.
Thank you so much, lesson was great. Greeting from México. :)
You're very welcome Alexis.
HI very nice videos GLB. I have a mg16xu ,which cables should i use for recording sound from monitor out to a phone.
If you are going into a phone it's best to use a mobile-specific USB audio interface.
Group 1234 out section at the back side of mixer . Where we can use?. How can we relate to the Channel of group 12 and 34.
I suggest that you watch the subgroups section of my MG12XU video tutorial it will explain more about this: ruclips.net/video/J_yOvdlMUAg/видео.html
Clearly Understood.Thanks
I have this mixer that i am powering with a 6000 Watt 4-channel power amp. I also have a powered subwoofer. Where would I plug that into the mixer, since I don't want to send a powered signal to a powered speaker? My mains and monitors are passive

Thank you So much Mr. Bruno.. I got a big help to operate my Mg166cx after this tutorials.. found so much things to do without any hassle. Just one question. I have pbm to understand about PAN knob. If I am using rca connector from mobile than the knob is sending audio from left side only. Can you pls explain me....
You're welcome Hemant. Your problem suggests that there is an issue with your cable or the headphone jack on your mobile.
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.
Is it possible to add Fx to the Aux output in MG20XU?
Not possible on this particular model - the internal FX can only be routed to the main LR outputs. Thanks for watching Abhilash :)
freakin awesome. thank you internet!
You're welcome Yarrei!
THANK YOU SIR SIMPLE AND CLEAR.
You're welcome :)
Truly helpful. This is awesome 👏
Thanks for watching Chris!
Thanks for the recommendation.
Excuse me, I want to record a "Rondalla", Could I use the harddiskogg?
@@hanabibebecina3884 Yes you could, but if there are multiple instruments and your mixer supports multitrack recording, then that is probably a better option so that you can master the tracks individually afterwards to balance their gains (volumes).
If you don't have a multitrack recorder you can record in stereo with two mics. If you want to record a particular instrument at the same time you can even just record using your phone, just set it to record to WAV at the best quality. These days the mics in phones are so good (electret flat freq response).
@@echan101 Thanks, my mixer is the same like the video, but I'm beginner.
(not present to most)
Good points Paul, thanks for sharing!
@@GLBProductions is there a way to increase the volume for streaming using the USB connection? Or is it better to plug it in the other way.
