Hi, I'm thinking of buying one of these machines, I need to know how it works with analog compressors (like a 1176 for example), reverbs, delays, eq's, blah blah blah. You know, getting a mix in my home studio in 2023, but the way it was done before. My other question is if it works well as an audio interface or if I need to connect it to a focusrite or a tascam (which are the interfaces I currently have). and last but not least is... ask yourself if when I move the faders, they move in the daw (whether it's reaper or pro tools that I currently use), I want to buy something of quality, that lasts, and that doesn't have to complain about anything, and from the facial expressions during the video, except for the dirt theme, I don't think you are disappointed with the yamaha at all. greetings from Argentina! new follower from today!
Good demo. You have a nice dead room, but I'm hearing a lot of sssses on every mic. I would suggest taming the higher frequencies a bit on either pre or post. Just a suggestion.
I got an old MG 12/4, same with mine..preamps and circuitry are whisper quiet, surgical eq. i prefer them to the motu 828, 8pre and behringer fca1616, on some mics and instruments. I love the high pass button, just rolls off the mud of dynamic mics..even cheaper mics sound good..i especially love the pres on nylon string guitar and my voice. Have my monitors connected through the yamaha. Its indestructible, and buttons still all work. Like a swiss army knife, that i just could not do without. The only reason i would ever part with it is is to get a newer version with effects. Nice vid.
If your mixer is dusty, you need to cover your mixer when not in use. You can use a soft case or a towel or anything to prevent dust. When you have dust built up, use a soft painters brush to brush dust away from any holes it can get into the mixer. Then use a microfiber cloth to clean anything left over.
That’s why you get the Mackie vlz4 series. Built like a tank, works forever, highest quality, and no dust can get inside anywhere. This mixer he’s reviewing is probably a great mixer too but Mackie is the Rolls Royce of mixers. This is universally known.
It's also a great mixer for streaming. Connect your mics/instruments to the input channels. Your PC audio in/out to the dedicated digital USB channel. Set your busses and effects. Set OBS to recognize the builtin digital connection. And you're good to go with a great sounding quality mixer, and control all the levels with the faders. I like using my PC audio sources as a digital input into the mixer, mics and instruments into their channels, mix it all and send it back into the PC via analog connection (for a more natural warmer analog sound out to the stream audience).

I would try to match it but it would always cause some kind of weird error. I’m guessing it’s protools. They are pretty finicky when it comes to hardware and their hardware. But in the end I’m happy with how it need you. It actually gives me more flexibility to have it separate.

So is you can please help me somehow, I would really appreciate it.
I preffered the Yamaha without the Avalon pre on the MKH416. Question, do you like the sound the MKH416 gives when you are off axis? Or was that an oversight?
Absolutely sensational review I'll be upgrading to the MGX12 very soon because my new Lenovo ThinkPad doesn't have headphones Jack input. I also use the NW800 Neewer microphone I'm very impressed with audio quality especially when running my radio station. By the way you have a new subscriber very impressed with your professionalism.
Hi - Great video. I have owned the Yamaha MG10XU for about 4 years and used it both live with my solo act and everyday in my small home studio when locked down. I opted for the tilt bracket underneath that is fastened to a low level upright mic stand which allows for less clutter on my desk. I am considering purchasing the MG12XU just for my live work. I run a Sennheiser MKE600 (the best I could afford at the time) into input 1. I must admit to being a tad disappointed with the sensitivity of the mic after watching all the YT reviews. I now have an inline booster from fethead that has sure boosted the gain but some noise floor with it. Maybe I should save up for the Senn 416 but that's a lot of investment just for a hobby. Any suggestions?.....
Wonderful video! Is it possible to overdub using this mixer? I have been using the Behringer Q502USB and in order for me to simultaneously hear myself and the tracks I've recorded, I have to loop rca cables with the Phones button engaged. Cheers!
Good video. You deserve more subs! Question: I'm new to mixer world. You said 4 mic input shares one stereo output. How about the audio from computer (like skype or youtube in browser), are they sharing one stereo output as well with the mics?
Hi, always go to your site to learn more - Thank you!!! - i plug my compressor mic to line 1(all good) - i plug my Acustic guitar to line 2 (i can hear clearly via headphones BUT when we go live on youtube via OBS to Acustic guitar sounds does not come through - you can hear it, but like if its not connected at all, super flat - im i doing something wrong? help.... keep up the great work!
I saw your original review back then, good to see that it holds long time. Can the MG12 to record voiceovers?? The thing is that I have budget for either an interface or mixer.., I do voiceovers, but I also have 2 Podcast going on, I recorded the Podcasts with the interface I had, but well, the experience is kind of difficult, cause I don't know how to do real time plug ins for live podcast, I was planning on buying a mixer and my interface thought it was a good time to break itself XD Now I don't know what to buy, cause I make more income from voice overs and the Podcasts I have them to keep my voice out and for some clients I have.., I don't know much about sound engineering, and I was said that if I buy a mixer I still need an interface to go through before the computer..., I was wondering if I buy the MG12 to keep the Podcasts on, and be able to do it live also.., and still be able to do voice overs, until I can buy additional equipment.
So this mixer does act like an interface. It does work with software like protools and Adobe Audition. You have that option, but in the future let’s say you want a dedicated audio interface because maybe it offers plugins that are exclusive to that interface, you can at least connect the mixer to the interface. Now, podcast, the mixer is perfect for podcast since you have the 4 mic inputs and compression for each mic Input
Awesome vid Lo, you seriously deserve more eyeballs on your vids, been watching you with my other channel for good few years now i bought my Yamaha MG10XU cos of you haha and use it with my DGX 286s it's awesome have a good one and #StaySafe bro 😎👊

Yeah man. I’ve seen some pretty badly mixers when doing video work at gigs. Even though I don’t use it for dj’ng even I could see they could benefit from the beater they have. But the final decision is yours
@@LoKnows whats a beater? Basicly, most djs have separate dj gear like 2 cd/mp3 players & a dj mixer. The yamaha mixer could be used for extra gear or plugin a couple of mics for a singing band. Thats what i was wondering.
@@djchakir Hahah, sorry, a beater, is something you have used FOREVER!!! It's gone through everything with you and has been beat up over the years of use. That's what I meant. I've seen a lot of DJs using mixers in their set up but every time I see them using them its been OLD beat up mixers that sound rough, especially on the mic, if they use it. But, if never dj'd before, so the whether you really need it is purely up to you, but if you do decide you need one its totally up to you. Yeah, I several devices connected to it as you suggested. It definitely would be helpful with extra gear and mics.
thank you for the video! So, I have a question, if I have my monitors connected, but also I want to do some pre listening of a channel, when I turn the knob of the monitor/phone, both volumes will change? there is a way to control separately the volume of the monitors and the volume of the phone (pre listening). Thank you!
Great vid! I have a question. The mixer I'm currently using sends audio through my USB to my PC for capture. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow me to set levels on my monitors, separate of what's being captured. So if I wanted to hear one input through my speakers, but not send through for capture, it doesn't let me. Is this possible with this mixer? Can I have different levels for monitoring, and different levels "sent"?
only downside i see with the mixer thats a problem for some people is that it doesnt come with a power nor usb cable but luckily the power cable is like 10$ usb b cable is 9$
Is yours the USB powered version or not? What would be the pros and cons for either or? I want to purchase this because I use two Macbook Pros but have one pair of monitors. Ideally, I'd want a mixer to bridge both laptops from both of their respective Focusrite Scarletts to communicate with the mixer that'll be connected to the monitor speakers. But I feel the USB powered version will fall dependent on whichever laptop it's connected to, yet I read somewhere the USB version has more features and is the preferred version to purchase. HELP WANTED PLEASE!!!
I have a guitar, midi keyboard, regular keyboard and a dynamic mic and I connect all of them except the midi through the line/xlr channels. But I am not able to get the regular input signals on my laptop ( reaper and bitwig). Can I use the MG12XU as separate audio interface, without using the Focusrite interface?
My Sound raft Compact 4 still going after 12 years, never turn it off either, only a switch dodgy and right led metre half working,I think quality control is worse through the years.
@@jjmusicals3985 well I’ve had the mixer for over 3 yrs and never had the need for a stabilizer. But if it protects your investment I don’t see why not.
hey i got a question how i pllug in my condensor mic and then i plug in my dynamic mic on the same time in the mixer? because you know a condensor mic need a phantom power but others mic doesn't need a phantom power.. so how can i fix that??
If you are mixing condenser and dynamics, most dynamics will ignore the phantom power and work fine. I have use an AT2035 with a Sennheiser e835 and the cheap Behringer XM8500. No problems.
HI,i have a question about the output of this mixer:i have the model MG10XUF,but i think they both have the same behaviour about this;If i have plugged at the same time the stereo out and the phones and if i want to listen to something only through the phones i cannot do it cause when i lower the volume of the master out (with the stereo fader), the volume of the phones is lowered too. Am i making some mistake or it is how the mixer works ? Thank you
Just took a look at the picture for your mixer. I would say try connecting your speakers to the stereo out instead of the monitors at the top. Then make sure you have the stereo button pushed in on the monitor/phones dial so it’s sharing the stereo out signal. Now you should be able to turn the monitor/phones dial up and the stereo dial down and only hear through the headphones. Hope that works, let me know if it does.
First of all, thank you for replying. Unfortunately I had already connected my speakers to the stereo out (that's where my issue comes from) and what you called stereo button on the monitor/phones dial is actually a stereo mute button (when pushed it doesn't route the stereo output into the monitor/phones output too). So it seems that i can listen to some music or whatever sound it is from the stereo out and not from the monitor/phones out but i cannot do the opposite (listening audio from phones and not from stereo out cause when i lower my stereo out fader also the phones output is lowered).
the SM7B does not use, nor require phantom power. its a Dynamic microphone. if you enable phantom power it literally will igonore its even on. if you run a cloudlifter or fethead or other mic "activator" you would then enable Phantom power and it would add a certain amount of clean gain from the phantom power. again.. the SM7b DOES NOT require phantom power. it is a gain hungry mic, and you may need a cloudlifter. but not all the time. if you can get about 60-70db of clean gain from your mixer/audio interface, to the sm7b, you shouldnt need a cloudlifter at all. Also. running the SM7b from the mg12xu and 10xu's usb is when you need the cloudlifter. if you ran from one of the monitor outs to a line in on your pc and checked the mic level with that gain in this video.. it'd clip for sure.. and hurt if you have headphones on. the USB on these mixers arent the greatest at all.
Q/ how do i get the Yamaha MG12XU mixer to play audio to DAW like fl studio i already download the update driver for it and my mic is Audio-Technica at2020...i can see the meter level on the mixer is working..msg back asap tnx
I too love the big ones like GREATEST SaWes . Going for MGP32X and MG10XUF at the same time. MG10XUF is for listening music in bed; while MGP32X for studio. I have already bought MG16XU. I love MG series mixers for normal use; but hate it for recording job. So, MGP32X is coming in. I call MG series mixers DUCKER. This mixers ducks the signals, so I hate them; you don't need DUCKER that you see in MGP32X mixers to Duck signal. Sparkling sounds are cut off in this MG series mixers, which I hate. Further, compressor has limited performance. You have to literally turn 300+ degree to get some effect of compression. SPX DSP are not upto its claim. I like Power Dynamics DSP which are very sweet and sparkling like firecrackers. So, not planning to sell Power Dynamics any more. I'll send FX from Power Dynamics and return it to MG or MGP. Because this mixers have resolution of 192 kHz.
Hmmm I should’ve been more clearer. This mixer is usb. I just like routing everything through it. Almost like an entertainment center receiver for the man cabe.
What audio interface do you use? What do you think is better?

I would try to match it but it would always cause some kind of weird error. I’m guessing it’s protools. They are pretty finicky when it comes to hardware and their hardware. But in the end I’m happy with how it need you. It actually gives me more flexibility to have it separate.
@ToyKeeper the built in audio interface is compatible with Steinberg so there are no worries about whether the interface is kosher or not.
How many DB’s of gain does this mixer have?
HI :) I dont know if you read these but if you do :) did you ever find a way to get 3- tracks out of the thing? Like adding a couple USB scarlets etc? I love mine for pre-recorded podcast but I need separate tracks LOL thanks for your videos
I also have the Yamaha Mg12xu I bought it just about $300 but mine is made in Malaysia is it ok?.. how about yours?
Hey, so i bought this mixer a couple weeks ago and im impressed, its fantastic technically. BUT i have a lot of issues with the drivers, sometimes i have audio dropouts every couple seconds and sometimes it works perfectly. Its driving me crazy actually... So is you can please help me somehow, I would really appreciate it.
Did you download the updated drivers on the Yamaha website?
How many channels can you see in DAW? As an audio interface? My old Mackie 1220i has 12 ins and 2 outs
Just 2
@@LoKnows I’m going to get Mackie Onyx 16. It is basically the same unit , but upgraded
Flat.
I get my Shure SM7B today or tomorrow.
Maybe i will get this Mixer becouse of your review.
Thank you for your thoughts !

I still have a studiomaster 1208. Cannot find a mixer with better sound
Thanks dude!
I am going for a bigger one.👌
I just love big stuff😉
Hi, do you have setup video or instructions for zoom with karaoke singing thru MG12XU?
Wonderful video! Is it possible to overdub using this mixer? I have been using the Behringer Q502USB and in order for me to simultaneously hear myself and the tracks I've recorded, I have to loop rca cables with the Phones button engaged.
Cheers!
Good video. You deserve more subs!
Question: I'm new to mixer world. You said 4 mic input shares one stereo output. How about the audio from computer (like skype or youtube in browser), are they sharing one stereo output as well with the mics?
Is the DAW mic input now recognize all of the mixer inputs now?
U rock brother. Keep up the good word...u saved me money
If I'm broadcasting a radio show frim my home using a shure SM58 mic with the preamp give me good clean vocals with little yo no hiss....?
How would you compare the sound quality of this vs an audient interface like the id14
weird comparison
Podrías hacer un tutorial como conectas tus monitores y a su al pc..Saludos..
VERY NICE VIDEO. YOU ARE A PRO THANK YOU VOOR THE VIDEO.
Helpful. Subscribed. Best of luck.
I have this and it's excellent but how to connect in taking external phone calls or is it better to by the rode caster pro for that?
I saw your original review back then, good to see that it holds long time. Can the MG12 to record voiceovers?? The thing is that I have budget for either an interface or mixer.., I do voiceovers, but I also have 2 Podcast going on, I recorded the Podcasts with the interface I had, but well, the experience is kind of difficult, cause I don't know how to do real time plug ins for live podcast, I was planning on buying a mixer and my interface thought it was a good time to break itself XD
Now I don't know what to buy, cause I make more income from voice overs and the Podcasts I have them to keep my voice out and for some clients I have.., I don't know much about sound engineering, and I was said that if I buy a mixer I still need an interface to go through before the computer...,
I was wondering if I buy the MG12 to keep the Podcasts on, and be able to do it live also.., and still be able to do voice overs, until I can buy additional equipment.
Thanks man! Glad you are enjoying the mixer. I think it’s funny how we are all moving to a multiple RUclips account life. 😂

Hey is this a good live on stage mixer?
what driver did you download for that mg12xu?
So, Is it possible to play the playback coming from Ableton by USB, and at the same time during the same session, record on Ableton the master track of the mixer?
I'd love a MG08XUF version, the 10 is a bit to large for me and the MG06 is to small...
Would you recommend this mixer for mobile djs?
Yeah man. I’ve seen some pretty badly mixers when doing video work at gigs. Even though I don’t use it for dj’ng even I could see they could benefit from the beater they have. But the final decision is yours
@@storytimevillage8214 Alright. Thank you. Will definitly check the Yamaha out 👊🏼
Many thanks!

Are you able to output the aux sends in stereo?
What do you recommend for doing animation voice over videos?
thank you for the video! So, I have a question, if I have my monitors connected, but also I want to do some pre listening of a channel, when I turn the knob of the monitor/phone, both volumes will change? there is a way to control separately the volume of the monitors and the volume of the phone (pre listening). Thank you!
Could you connect a transmitter to the MG12XU?
Yes, it has independent volume controls for Line out, Monitor out and even headphones
only downside i see with the mixer thats a problem for some people is that it doesnt come with a power nor usb cable but luckily the power cable is like 10$ usb b cable is 9$
Please help me bro which one is best Yamaha mg12 xu or soundcraft signature 12 mtk ? Thank you. Please respond.
Do I need a stabilizer for this mixer to setup for a home studio buddy?
Stabilizer?
@@LoKnows yes buddy...from electric fluctuation in order to protect the mixer or electronic equipments! So for a mixer do I need it for a big time
@@jjmusicals3985 well I’ve had the mixer for over 3 yrs and never had the need for a stabilizer. But if it protects your investment I don’t see why not.
@@LoKnows thank you buddy..😊
Wow this neumann mic sound best. For me Its like skoda vs Porsche(neumann)
effect works on monitor output?
Hi I am a mobile dj and my Yamaha MG12XU is connected to my controller. How do I connect a video recorder so that I get video snd audio? Thanks
Multi track recoding possible in yamaha mg 16 xu
hey i got a question how i pllug in my condensor mic and then i plug in my dynamic mic on the same time in the mixer? because you know a condensor mic need a phantom power but others mic doesn't need a phantom power.. so how can i fix that??
If you are mixing condenser and dynamics, most dynamics will ignore the phantom power and work fine. I have use an AT2035 with a Sennheiser e835 and the cheap Behringer XM8500. No problems.
how do i stop direct monitoring with this mixer? im so confused. :D i keep hearing myself when i talk in my mic
Hello there, please help me, does "Yamaha MG12" an USB in...??
HI,i have a question about the output of this mixer:i have the model MG10XUF,but i think they both have the same behaviour about this;If i have plugged at the same time the stereo out and the phones and if i want to listen to something only through the phones i cannot do it cause when i lower the volume of the master out (with the stereo fader), the volume of the phones is lowered too. Am i making some mistake or it is how the mixer works ? Thank you
That’s weird you don’t have a separate volume knob for the headphones and monitors?
I dont hear much, if any, difference between your onboard preamp and your better one!
Thank you
Any advice fro recording two separate tracks in OBS?
Go analog and don't use the USB
@@nevoyu wish I could ~~ thanks
why do you use m audio box to computer does the xu not go into daw
Wow, those mics all sounded the same good quality thanks to the mixer... Which is exactly it's Mission, give the best HQ on every audio channel

You didn't test the FX, which is very important..
Q/ how do i get the Yamaha MG12XU mixer to play audio to DAW like fl studio i already download the update driver for it and my mic is Audio-Technica at2020...i can see the meter level on the mixer is working..msg back asap tnx
i cant see my mic input to the mixer like it suppose to show
I too love the big ones like GREATEST SaWes
Because this mixers have resolution of 192 kHz.
there's a USB model of the same mixer so people don't need to connect it to an audio interface.
Hmmm I should’ve been more clearer. This mixer is usb. I just like routing everything through it. Almost like an entertainment center receiver for the man cabe.
@@LoKnows more clearer? nah, I like it dirty and sexy too ;)
@@zezesilver Hahahahah!!
With preamps. Seemed too flat to my ear without it.
Yeah it’s crazy, some people “prefer” that sound because it gives them more flexibility to shape the audio to their liking.
I like without. Either way, but without.
The right output on my mg12 died after 3 years
Ohhhh no!
Update - just discovered it was a faulty ring/tip stereo input cable. Much cheaper to replace. Forgive me yamaha lol
