I'm in school for sound design and we're learning to use the expression for a live sound final, this tutorial helped me. You have a real talent for teaching, very patient and knowledgable. Thank you for positing.
I know im asking the wrong place but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Arthur Bronson I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thanks for this series of videos brother. They are very helpful. Your patient teaching style, cadence of speech and ability to simplify complex ideas makes it a pleasure to learn from you. Thanks again!
Very good direction and instruction, the big problem is the camera person was not able to follow the lead of the instructor. Many times the instructor referred to faders or knobs, and the camera did not focus on where he was referencing. Otherwise, the instructor did an excellent job of explaining and describing the functionality of each component.
Thanks so much! I'm coming from a similar situation-an analog mixer which I understood pretty well to an Si Expression which I understand poorly. This is a great start to get me going!!
You're welcome! If you find you are having trouble understanding the digital mixer don't be afraid to arrange for training from the person who sold it to you - training is much better done in person than over the internet ;)
Hello there sir That was an awesome tutorial lesson please have more of this specially covering how to save setting from one to another or how save as a new profile please please
I can get an aux mix out fine but am having trouble with sending the L/R mix to a Matrix. I think my problem is in the LCD window screen (with the XLR sockets and check marks). I can headphone monitor the MTX ok but bugger all comes out the two XLR outs I assign. The manual is a bit sparse here - can you step me through how to assign Outs to a MTX mix please? Would be eternally grateful!
Hi Randall, I don't have the mixer in front of me at the moment, but working from memory, the procedure is to press one of the matrix bus buttons eg MTX1, MTX2 etc and then go to the appropriate fader layer in order to determine what is sent to that matrix. You then need to go to the appropriate page on the touchscreen to set up which physical outputs you want to patch that matrix to. You're right that the mixer is really not helpful in this area. If you can monitor the matrix in the headphones but get no physical output then double check your patching and especially check easy to miss things like having the master fader up and switched ON - this one gets me all the time! This is an interesting issue so I will confirm these directions the next time I'm around this particular mixer.
what if i want a soundcraft ui series connected soundcraft si expression 1? how do i do that. i saw a data lan port on both mixers. but I'm confuse how do i link my ui to si mixer? my plan is to use the ui series 16 as my voice mixer channel for the singers , backup singers, for the host and master of ceremony. Then the my main mixer soundcraft si expression will be my instruments channel , pc Spotify player and karaoke player. how do i all do that?
If you want to use the network ports to connect these mixers you need to contact soundcraft to determine the correct protocol to use. Otherwise you can connect them as you would normal analog mixers.
Hello.. I have expression 2 in my Church. I have a question. I don't want the effects to go to my 2 monitors which are connected through mix 5 and Mix 7. Effects are already coming out through main in house speaks. I want to control it in selected monitors
So you would press Mix 5, locate the aux return faders (blue faderglow) on the appropriate layer) and make sure they are all the way down. Then repeat this for mix 7.
Minor question in your sequence list. Making connects should come before powering up the system, is this correct? Even in established systems, any new connects need to be done before powering up the system, am I correct in this train of thought?
Yes Dennis in an ideal world all connections should be made/broken with the power off. However if the system is already on when you arrive, check that the channel you are connecting to is muted and that the phantom power is turned off.
I wanna upgrade my analog mixer to Si for my Choir but I see many people selling Soundcraft Si Expression with excellent condition that used in Church. You have been using this mixer so can you share your experiment? thanks
Hey Bruno, I have got a question to you as you are quite familiar with teaching Sound-Engineering. In my local church we are only four people in the "sound-team" so its really hard to get someone for every service. As the inofficial leader of the team I am responsible for training any newcomers. Sadly I have no Idea where to start when these guys have no Idea about sound reinforcement so far and are supposed to handle our Qu24 any time soon. Do you have some kind of concept for a training session? I guess it would be easy to teach them an easy procedure, but I don´t feel that is the right way. I want them to know how things work and how to react, when unexpected things happen.
Well, both ;) Our technicians should know how Soundreinforcement works, but after all they should be able handle our setup (i guess thats the point of the whole story)
Hello Joni, this video is for you: ruclips.net/video/54Xs6QCUTWw/видео.html Thanks for your comment, this video should have been made a long time ago but sometimes it takes viewer input to get the ball rolling :)
Oh wow, I didn´t see that one coming. Thank you very much for all the effort put into that video. It will help a lot. I guess the only challenge left is to find people interested in joining our team ;)
Master fader should be placed at 0dB most of the time. However remember that its position does not affect the gain-setting operation as that is done pre-fader.
I have no experience with this, and I recently took over a position where I have to use this in a planetarium. The wireless microphone we have set up to it was working, and we accidently pressed some buttons, and now we have no sound with the microphone. Would you be willing to assist?
The amount of gain needed is related to the level of the incoming signal - lower level signals need more, higher level signals need less. Likewise what is too much or too little gain depends on whether or not the signal has been raised to line level - there is no 'correct' or 'standard' amount of gain for any given channel.
that was cool. The only thing I didn't like where the ghetto hardware store rack bolts and the metal washers being used on the mixers rack wings. XD The correct style washers (plastic or material) and bolts are cheep as chips. Looking forward to part 2.
It's in a rode case that is designed to be moved around - you go punting in metal washers and your going to scratch up the rack wings. Scratches lead to rust and rust leads to a premature electronics failure which leads to hate and hate well leads to the dark side! All joking aside. Using incorrect rack bolts is also not a good idea either. The rack it's in might fall over, be stored length ways in a truck and transported to another venue or in general not looked after properly (as is the case with most churches who aren't employing someone who knows what they are doing) - you skim on the bolts holding the mixer in and you won't have a mixer when it comes loose in transit.

@Arthur Bronson It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
I've made the switch from analog to digital and with your assistance it was simple and easy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for this series of videos brother. They are very helpful. Your patient teaching style, cadence of speech and ability to simplify complex ideas makes it a pleasure to learn from you. Thanks again!
You're welcome David, and thank you for watching 😊

Yes the camera work is not ideal, but remember that you are getting the video for free ;)
I think this series will become the standard Si tutorial - SO good! Very clear. Great job.
Thanks for watching Patrick, really appreciate your support!
You are by FAR the best ... so easy to understand. Thanks from Samoa
Thanks for watching!
You're a wonderful teacher, I enjoy all your videos
Thanks for watching :)

that was ultra informative mr luse! nice work by the camera guy too keeping it steady for over 24 minutes! looking forward to the 2nd instalment.
Camera woman actually ;) Yes she did a good job, thanks for watching!
Hello there sir
That was an awesome tutorial lesson please have more of this specially covering how to save setting from one to another or how save as a new profile please please
Thanks for watching Dinh! This series is complete and there will not be any further videos added.
Love you sir, I like your teaching style very much.
Thanks Utpal!
Most welcome sir
thank's sir for empowering use as sound engineers
You're welcome!
I would like to be in your classroom lessons, have such a teacher like you :D
Am just waiting for part. 2!!!
Thanks for your support Thomas :) These videos take a very long time to edit but the next part should be up in a week or so!
hey thank you we will also buy a soundcraft (we have a yamaha 166 usb) and play your video's a lot.
You're most welcome.

Dennis Neuhaus You're welcome :)
"your iphone with death metal music on it... alright ?"
haha
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! This rocks!!!!!!
You're welcome Kierra :)
Funny enough, I have the Yamaha mixer (MG12, same as shown), and I'm examining a switch to the Expression 1.
At this price point also consider the Allen and Heath Qu16.
I wanna upgrade my analog mixer to Si for my Choir but I see many people selling Soundcraft Si Expression with excellent condition that used in Church. You have been using this mixer so can you share your experiment?
thanks
I suggest you watch the entire series of videos and then make a decision.
Hello Sir, we canoot connect LR inputs, our mixer works only with MONO, can you help us?
More details please Andrei.
10:28 Master - "if you have too much gain what happens? " . . . Warrior - "too loud" LOL!
Or clipping, which is worse.

Hello Joni thanks for getting in touch. Are you looking for training specifically on the Qu24 or on doing sound in general?
Well, both ;)
Our technicians should know how Soundreinforcement works, but after all they should be able handle our setup (i guess thats the point of the whole story)
Yes that is the correct approach! Ok I have just the video for you, stay tuned!

What about the master fader? That action comes before the gain and fader and adjustments..
Master fader should be placed at 0dB most of the time. However remember that its position does not affect the gain-setting operation as that is done pre-fader.
I'm thinking about purchasing a Si Expression... Has this mixer given you any problems?
The mixer in the video is still in use and hasn't given us any major problems.
What happens if I connect the Digital Audio Output from a Digital LED- TV to the AUX Input of an old Yamaha Analogue Amplifier?
You'll probably just get a bunch of noise as a digital output is not compatible with an analog input.
I have no experience with this, and I recently took over a position where I have to use this in a planetarium. The wireless microphone we have set up to it was working, and we accidently pressed some buttons, and now we have no sound with the microphone. Would you be willing to assist?

How much gain should you use for a live church setting, isn't 2 oclock too much
The amount of gain needed is related to the level of the incoming signal - lower level signals need more, higher level signals need less. Likewise what is too much or too little gain depends on whether or not the signal has been raised to line level - there is no 'correct' or 'standard' amount of gain for any given channel.
fantastic and informative as usual!
Thanks for watching Guy!
that was cool. The only thing I didn't like where the ghetto hardware store rack bolts and the metal washers being used on the mixers rack wings. XD The correct style washers (plastic or material) and bolts are cheep as chips. Looking forward to part 2.
I'll let our installer know that you don't approve of his choice of hardware ;)
It's in a rode case that is designed to be moved around - you go punting in metal washers and your going to scratch up the rack wings. Scratches lead to rust and rust leads to a premature electronics failure which leads to hate and hate well leads to the dark side!

Thanks Tuala.
please i want to know if GLB productions has an institution for Audio Engineering
Yes it's right here on RUclips! There's no brick and mortar institution, I do all of my training at the school, club or church that hires me.
