    Leif's Adaptable skill, in particular, makes a series of 6 checks to decide which weapon is the """best""". Each check increases the priority in which Leif will choose the weapon.
    1) Weapon must allow counterattack against foe
    2) Weapon must not be at disadvantage against foe (avoid break)
    3) Weapon must have advantage against foe (gain Arms Shield bonuses)
    4) Weapon must be effective against foe
    5) Between the weapons with the highest priority so far, choose the weapon with the highest sum of *Might + Hit + Avoid + Crit + CritAvoid*
    6) If somehow there are weapons that still tie in priority, pick the one higher in the unit's item list
    Earlier checks are considered more important than the later ones
    example 1: a weapon that allows counterattacking will have a higher priority compared to a weapon that is not at disadvantage. So yeah if you're attacked by a ranged hand axe attack and did not unlock the Light Brand and don't have other 2 range weapons, Leif will choose to equip the Master Lance because it can counterattack, and get broken as a result LMAO
    example 2: If attacked by an armored foe with an Axe and Leif can pick between an Hammer and a Silver Sword, Leif chooses the Silver Sword, because having Weapon Advantage is considered more important than having effectiveness.

      @BigKlingy  Год назад +16

      Yeah that sounds about right. (Especially Weight/Attack Speed not being a factor, explaining why he can GET YOU DOUBLED AND KILLED)
      Though it's often said that if you have a 1-2 range spear better than the Master Lance that'll stop that being forced on you.

      Honestly.
      Lief would be so, so, so, so much better if he specifically just didn't have Engage Weapons.
      The mechanic is messy, but fine in an environment where you know the rules, and can carefully select an inventory accordingly.
      You could use some of the less valuable engravings to tweak stats for priority in that last slog, and be careful to omit selections that will result in bad switches, like forgoing a handaxe on a Warrior going for vantage/wrath, so they never choose to use it over a Killer Bow.
      The Killer Axe is... fine, but thankfully will never ever be pulled over a store bought killer axe, let alone an upgraded one, but the Master Lance and Light Brand are absolutely horrific weapons, the Light Brand has high enough soft stats that it's a ridiculous weapon to try and stat over, and the Master Lance specifically has antisynergy with Vantage/Wrath Warriors, which are otherwise Lief's best use case, because he will whip that piece of crap out any time a sword unit you'll just oneshot with your axe walks up.
      The fact the best way to use Lief is to specifically not raise his bond rank really shows how awfully he was designed. He's also basically unusable on a mage, who might actually really appreciate his stats, because they're getting pulled over to terrible weapons.
      God. So much stuff is messed up in so many ways for Lief, it pisses me off. I'd expect this kind of stuff from like, Bethesda, or Pokemon.

      Honestly the most important thing I've found when it comes to using Leif is just, your Leif user should be a lance character equipped with a javelin (or flame lance). The only real stinker he has as far as weapons goes is the Master Lance.

    • @evansmith2832
      @evansmith2832 26 дней назад +1

      Ahh, that's why you can't use a crit engraved longbow on wrath panette when you have an eirika engraved killer bow. The avoid and crit avoid are too low for the eirika engrave, so it switches you to longbow even though its might, hit, and crit are worse. I will use this information for nefarious purposes.

    Some notes I think are worth bringing up:
    Augment also applies to healing staves, and if you heal yourself via Augment, you gain a TON of EXP, and what you gain is not affected by your level. This is the main way to get Vander to a usable state.
    Great Sacrifice on Armors also gives the +1 def boost to your _entire army_, not just anyone healed. It's actually kind of nutty on low-level characters, but Great Sacrifice EXP falls off quicker than you'd think.
    Re: Adaptable: The way it swaps weapons is predictable and exploitable. Counterintuitively, Leif is best on a unit who can hold, for instance, Spears, as the game will recognize that a Spear is better than the Master Lance.
    Engage+ also overwrites any rings, including bond rings, which... is kind of lame.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Год назад +6

      lol Vander. But yeah that tracks.
      I'd heard that the +1 defense on everyone = armours level up fast with Great Sacrifice, but Louis tends to get a lot of exp in the early chapters anyway. And like you said, it does fall off eventually.
      I guess since you can't use Bond Rings when you have an Emblem Ring, that makes sense.

  • @Kwang_Ko
    @Kwang_Ko Год назад +40

    Thankfully, because Master Lance has a horrendous hit, its weapon value is always lower than a base Javelin and a base Spear. So if a Lance yser equips a Leif, they can at least be safe from the curse of enemy phase Master Lance. This is why Timerra usually synergies well with Leif in multiple levels.
    Meanwhile, I say Micaiah is easily one of the best Emblems in the game, along with Lucina and Byleth.
    Like Camilla's Decisive Strike, Veronica's Book of World can also kill if they have the "deal 10 extra damage after combet" effect. Not that it's that helpful since it does require at least 3 turns of wait to see this.

    2:17:13 Not sure if you're going to see this, but apparently there's a funny quirk about the double Robin chain attack due to shenanigans caused by the Japanese names. Since Robin's Japanese name "ルフレ" is contained within Alfred's Japanese name "アルフレッド", if a dragon unit is Engaged with Chrom and Alfred is in range and is capable of chain attacking (via being a Backup or Dual Strike), Alfred will ALSO chain attack twice. This will also occur if you have a Veronica summoned Robin in range, implying that the game searches for characters whose names contain "rufure" and are able to chain attack, and just lets them chain attack once more. I ought to test this with Brave Assist, see if that does anything.

    I will put this here, Quadruple Hit can do actually pretty decent damage against tanky enemies by, weirdly enough, inheriting Momentum. Engage attacks have this weird property that will make all hits count as the first one for the sake of Momentum procs, but this is mostly counteracted by the fact that basically every Engage attack that multihits has a pretty severe damage penalty, except for Quad Hit, which has no damage penalty at all. This means that any unit with 5 move can just add 20 True Damage to it with momentum (5 for each hit). It actually is a pretty low cost (1k SP is the entire cost of this) true damage "nuke" that is very easy to use, with it breaking any weapon triangle user as well. I used this as an opener against a lot of tanky enemies/bosses

  • @Timbeon
    @Timbeon 3 месяца назад +10

    Corrin's Quality Time is pretty solid on Seadall, a small heal is a nice bonus on top of the turn refresh. It's not gonna break the game or anything, but it can save a unit from dying every now and then, and it's not like you're going to be putting combat abilities on him anyway.

    • @BigKlingy

      I don't like Corrin's ring itself on Seadall, but inheriting that skill sounds like it could work.

      Or not even fast. I used him on Great Knight Jade and she was surprisingly good with Eirika engraved Revanche because she always had at least 40% crit at full health. Even the dodge penalty could be turned into my favour since she wouldn't die to crits anyway, but instead gain more crit and Resolve+. And when she would fall into dangerous HP levels I'd just pop Engage and the enemies would stop targeting her altogether.

    One detail from Emblem Veronica that I believe wasn’t pointed out in this video is the name of each Book of Worlds skill. It is a direct reference to the first five books/stories in the Fire Emblem Heroes. Of course the name of each book in Engage being named after the main theme or weapon of the final boss of each book.
    When I first got Veronica and used the wait command I didn’t notice the reference until I saw that death was after flame. Referencing Surtr/Flame and Hel/Death.

    -if you use dlc, i really enjoy using lucina on a mage cannoneer with the venom blast equipped! doesn't suffer from the lower hit rates at longer ranges since they're chain attacks, and applies poison. if you're facing loads of high def/res units, i like doing this, sending out some walls/dodgetanks to proc the chain attacks, and then clean up with your damage units. also provides the cannoneer an emergency "oh god a random flier sneaked past my units to attack me" plan with the noble rapier or parthia, and bonded shield if you're surrounded. makes it much easier to protect your cannoneer who can't really counterattack as well up close using your units. also, as an armored unit, it guarantees bonded shield! only issue is movement, but you're really looking for the poison application more than bonded shield if you do this and the range more than makes up for it.-
    EDIT: super sorry, tested stuff out and found that pretty much ALL of this is misinformation. to make up for it, here are some other emblem tips:
    - Lucina is still a great Emblem choice for MC's simply for the range + chain attacks, but I've also seen them used for big damage via Lunar Brace, Reprisal (or the Veronica ring), and Divine Pulse (or the Byleth ring). Veronica and Byleth are the two choices for rings in this build (pick whichever fills the flavor of support you want in your MC: Goddess Dance/Summon Hero, Instruct/Book of Worlds, etc.)
    - Micaiah's Augment is great for the Warp staff, but it's even better with the Rewarp staff! This brings the Micaiah user along for 5 units total warped, and can set up for warps from your new position (all in the same turn if you warp a dancer or Byleth user!), all for cheaper than the Warp staff!
    - Celine has an interesting niche with Soren in that Cataclysm procs Ignis, which can allow for an extra smidge of damage for groups of enemies. I'll have to fact-check this part, but it seems to have a chance to proc with each individual "attack", so theoretically it could proc thrice for one enemy. Consequently, this means it could also let you kill one extra enemy and deny a kill with another that would die with even one Ignis. Still something to note!
    - Ike's Great Aether apparently clears miasma and fire wherever it hits an enemy according to a loading screen I got the other day! Great option for those miasma maps when the enemies REFUSE to leave miasma spaces.
    - Rivals is genuinely such a crazy option if you wanna make use of a really strong physical unit of yours. Combining Houses Unite+, Raging Storm, Seadall, Goddess Dance, Contract, and Canter for your "dancers", you can THEORETICALLY get up to 8 total actions on just one unit: Houses Unite+ -> Raging Storm -> Attack -> Contract + Attack -> Dance + Attack -> Goddess Dance + Attack (with Canter, this can also hit Seadall and your Veronica user) -> Contract + Attack -> Dance + Attack. If Tiki gave two extra Engage turns via Divine Blessing+, that would be another Raging Storm but alas she gives only one from what I've seen. Could be useful for some big bosses, or even maps if enemy unit placement is just right.
    Sorry again! I'll add more here if I think of any. :3

    I also find it really strange how Emblem Robin's Levin Sword looks different from the version found in Engage, because it lifts its design from Awakening. Fates, Echoes, and Three Houses all made slight alterations to the sword's design, and Engage was the first to fully revisit the Awakening design.
    Usually Emblem weapons resemble how they do in their home games, even if Engage has an equivalent. Robin is kind of an exception, then, because his sword actually looks more like the Lightning Sword found in Echoes, with the longer, curved cross guard.

  • @galladeforce
    @galladeforce Год назад +2

    So this comment will mainly be about aspects of Emblem I didn’t note before.
    So talking about Leif, I feel he’s more niche than he is downright bad as an active Emblem when used as intended. I don’t entirely now whenever or nit what makes him niche comes from how some aspects do not work together that well,
    On the reference side of things you have the Weapon Triangle gimmick, he comes from the games which introduced that and since he was a Master Knight i Geneology he can use a variety of weapons, despite being locked to Swords in Thracia 776 and from what I heard bosses could change weapons to counter yours in atleast one Jurgdal games. It makes sense.
    But then you consider the type of weapons they gave him while engages, a Killer Axe, a Master Lance and the Light Brand, they make a lot of sense if your trying to refence Thracia 776, the former two debuted in that game and the latter two are -1-2 range options, something that can be useful for a defensive Emblem,
    the Master Lance isn’t as antithetical to getting a lot of units to use it as I feel the Light Brand is, it’s a 1-2 range Brave weapon and hence something that IS would want to nerf somewhat, the funny is that it’s hit and weight are accurate to Thracia 776, They could have used the Long Lance
    but as many people have likely said the Light Brand being a magic weapon means that most defensive units, that are likely physically inclined will end up doing little to no damage with it.
    The latter is however Leif’s personal weapon, something that I feel they wanted to keep in both his kit and his Rank 15 weaponi, even though with Lyn they where willing to ignore the Sol Kati.
    Otherwise I feel like he could work for a wide range of physical users rather than requiring being somewhat of a mixed attacker to make the most of him.
    And talking about mixed attacking Emblems, while I don’t feel there is that many, you have Celica, Byleth, Corrin, Eirika, Camill and Chrom and Robin, All of them either focus focus on support or offence. Whenever or not your using the Levin Sword or Falchion on Chrom is your choice
    And thinking about Byleth’s, I wonder how exactly the weapons that every unit type gets where decided, While most of them makes sense either as a reference or gameplay wise some of them are admittedly weird
    The Aegis Shield, Thyrsus and Rafal Gem are in a game where equipaabls items are very rare, compared to Three Houses where it was a widely used mechanic. Thyrsus makes the most overall sense, unless the user uses Magic your nit getting anything out of it in Three Houses and the three Tome Relics are only in Three Hopes. And this is entirely Three Houses
    Luin, Areadvahr and Failnaught are likely defences to connections their original users had with those kind of units, Ingrid’s canon class is a Flier, Dimitri has Riding as a budding talent and Covert includes the games Infantry Bow using classes, which Claude starts off as. And interestingly any character in Three Hopes with a unique Intermediate and Master tier classes will have a regular advance class that’s considering their default class line, Dimitri’s is Paladin and Claude’s is Sniper.
    Aymr, I find peculiar as the dragon weapon. While it could be so that every Lord Heroes Relic was in the game this is Edelgard’s Heroes Relic, being used by a Dragon,
    Something that I’ve realised is somewhat weird, Erika and Ephraim does damage based on a % of the opponents Defence and restores HP based on damage dealt, Which makes sense thematically those two having connections to the Moon and Sun and hence have Luna and Sol as skills.
    But then their damage related Sync Skill, Gentility and Bravery are the exact opposite, the one with the entirely offensive effect reduces the damage her user is taking, While Solar Brace and Bravery have some synergy, extra damage done = more HP resorted but it’s still a entirely defensive effect combined with an entirely offensive effect.

    2:14:05 I’d like to…try to defend Veronica’s staff weapon, since it’s based on her Brave version in FEH. In that game, it doesn’t allow counterattack because of a skill in her base kit that prevented it. If they’d given her the actual weapon stat swing effect, it would be utterly absurd. If I remember rightly it’s like a -4, -5 to atk, speed, defense and resistance while also boosting those stats for her and Allies in 2 spaces? 3? I can’t remember anymore.

    My favorite Emblem in this game has to be Micaiah because 1) She's broken and 2) She's your best way of grinding EXP in Engage through Great Sacrifice.

      It's also funny because there's a lot of very strong Wyvern enemies in Engage... but you have the Radiant Bow and Lyn for them.

At least it's just frame drops and slow downs and not nightmare glitches at least) and Psaro being silent in this game when he REALLY should have been allowed to talk like he normally does (even more so since I got to a point where that decision makes the story jarring for a moment, even more so if you don't have some basic knowledge of DQ4 to understand the sudden jump there), but nothing to ruin or sully my experience with the game. The DLC and how that impacts online functions is also annoying, but the base game is still pretty fun and great.

A low HP Panette with Bond Level 9 Leif, inherited Wrath (and ideally Hold-Out to safely reach HP thresholds), a crit-engraved Killer Axe and Killer Bow can strike first on EP with 100% crit chance, switching on the fly between 1 and 2-range weapons for great coverage, I've seen literally dozens of units on single turns suicide themselves on her. Given how harsh this game can be with its reinforcements at times, units that can endlessly kill stuff on enemy phase are invaluable, and using Leif for this build frees up high-value Emblems like Ike for other units.

    Two fun things to note, one for Soren and one for Chrobin. Soren's Reflect staff lacks in usefulness for its actual effect, but it's surprisingly good at being a mini Great Sacrifice for the midgame chapters where you lack Micaiah- getting staff EXP from four units all at once is usually a hefty chunk, depending on the levels of your units, and unlike GS it's not dependent on those units being below full HP to actually affect them.
    Second thing is that I've found Chrom's emblem to be shockingly good on, of all things, gryphon knights- my experience largely coming from using Clanne as a sword one. Boosting both physical and magical combat by a fair margin for a solid hybrid unit that can use Levin Sword, AND has the mobility to make good use of Rally, is pretty bonkers, it turns out. The one thing that's really missed out on is Surprise Attack, but that can be fiddly to position for anyway so I don't count it as the biggest loss in the world, personally.

    My favorite way of using Roy is throwing him on Panette. Panette Leif is interesting but I am not a fan of the fact that she's stuck with the 25% hp range vantage.
    Hold out makes it much easier for her to get into her personal and max wrath range and makes it so even if the enemy crits her because she's using a dodge decreasing crit increasing killer axe, she's guaranteed to survive.
    As for Leif he can at least patch up your unit's build if you want to wield certain weapons like levin sword without getting weighted down by them.
    I also do pass level 10 mainly for her to use light brand cause that 10 luck boost helps her activate her personal skill in getting more money. While it does require her using the heavy master lance, it's not like she's gonna be dealing damage with it anyway given her low strength growth and I don't Really intend to make her an enemy phase sweeper anyway unless the only thing that can attack her are axe units.

    These bio videos are always fun to watch. Checking out how neat every Emblem functions is great for planning what builds you want to try on your characters. I’m currently nearing the end of my third play through, and with better knowledge of how the game works, chose to try out a couple “Wacky Builds” on a couple of my units this time around. If you don’t mind, I’d like to share them.
    First, I went with General Alear. The way I like to build Alear is as a frontline support unit. Divinely Inspiring is very self explanatory, and then Swap is an ok skill for helping keep Alear in the front and maybe getting someone out of danger. Then I gave them Canter+ and one Boots stat booster to make them more mobile, and also Break Defenses since they won’t be doubling everything, it’ll give other units a safe enemy to finish off. I might give them a Speed+ skill later. As for Emblems, I went with Corrin. While it is a bit less effective to use her on Alear while they aren’t in their default class, the vines effect preventing breaks on you was still helpful, plus Draconic Hex and Dreadful Aura are just nuts, easily gets you out of a jam.
    Second, (and this one is pretty silly) I’m calling it War Mage. I wanted to try a frontline build that was decent in both Strength and Magic. Despite joining late I chose to do this with Mauvier and reclassed him to Sage. Mauvier has pretty good Strength and Magic despite Sages low Strength cap, but that’s where his Emblem comes in. I gave him Roy, who significantly patches up his low HP and Strength caps, plus the Binding Blade is pretty strong, provides extra defenses, and can attack at range. There’s also the Mystical effect from Blazing Lion creating a large fire area, and Hold Out+++ to help with survivability. As for skill inheritance, Vantage+ and either Unyielding/Speedtaker/Lunar Brace/Resolve+. This will take some grinding to see what works best, but since I plan to attempt max level tempest trails for the first time soon, that amount of effort pretty much goes for anyone.
    That’s that I guess. It just shows how fun it can be to plan out your builds. And I’m sure Engage will keep bringing me back for its fun mechanic for quite awhile.

    For you, which one between Micaiah and Lucina is better off given to an Enchanteur ?
    I tend to give the edge to Micaiah but I'm thinking about it because Enchanteur are pretty good with both :
    - With Lucina : Enchanter become a 6 Range (Chain Attack) Dagger Backup with 100% trigger rate on Bonded Shiled
    - With Micaiah : Enchanteur have access to Dagger, Arts and Staff, they can have infinite staff acess due to convoy, are pretty accurate on Offensive Staff and Heal A LOT of HP due to Staff Mastery and Augment and cure status with Great Sacrifice

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Год назад

      Both are pretty good, but I'd personally give the edge to Lucina because Micaiah on an Enchanter basically does the same thing she does on any Staff user, convoy is the only unique aspect but Alear reclassed to a staff class can do that.

    A very min-max note about Leif on Maddening runs; If you have extra rewinds to use than the covert bonus is really nice, especially in the few early game chapters where you have him.
    Put him on Yunaka, Etie, or Alcryst (Yunaka works best), and use quadruple hit to finish an enemy every turn until you get the gold proc.
    The chapters are slow paced enough for you to get away with this, and the extra gold can really come in clutch considering how scarce gold gets on Maddening.
    I also reccomend puting off Anna's recruitment until after you get Leif just to use this strat. Even if you intend to use her, she only loses out on one chapter's worth of EXP, which I personally find to be a worthy trade (as there's plenty of tricks to help her catch up).

    I find that just like in 3H, I want to just use Dimitri's gambit and just leave Edelgard behind. Her gambit isn't bad but Aymr being a smash weapon is just aweful. Smash weapons can have some niche use beyond engage attacks but it takes work and likely will get you very little gain.

    Another note on Leif, while i agree his real strength is utility and skill inheiritence, but what if you want to use him for combat and still max his bond level? Or more importantly, who should Lief end the game with after he has given his skill inheritance to everyone who wants it?
    In short, Alcryst in his unique promoted class is Lief's best partner, and Leif is one of Alcryst's better (though admittedly not his best) emblem ring options. Starting with the easy thing to understand, in the same way the Luna is a good pair with Astra Storm, it is a good pair with quad hit. In mt experience, Luna will trigger 1-3 times on quad hit, which effectively fixes it damage, even if Luna only triggers once. Additionally, Alcryst is acovert unit with ok luck, so it can be a nice supplement to your income which is otherwise sporadic in this game.
    Ok now for the big one, Adaptable and the Master Lance. Adaptable will chose the Master Lance most often because you need a ranged counter for that combat. Alcryst in his unique classes, will always have a Range 2 option in his bows and a Range 1 option in Leif's own weapons, so the only time the Master Lance shows up is if a sword unit attacks you, which is something to look out for, but here is the best part. because Alcryst is a covert unit adaptable give him +20 Aviod on enemy phase, so put him in terrian (or create Fog w/ Corrin to really take advantage of this) and suddenly Engaged Alcryst can consistently get

    Thanks for the background audio while I was crunching through chapters 20 & 21. Though rewatching this, it really struck me how... ̶b̶o̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ basic most early emblems are and how absurdly all-out powerful the DLC ones are. As you've said quite a few times, the main game's balance and progression in complexity is quite nice but the bracelets really feel very overtuned even for end- or postgame. Not exactly pay-to-win or anything but it does feel on the same level as things that would be NG+ or postgame rewards in past games. Oh well.
    I'm doing my first playthrough without DLC for the sake of balance, but I plan on going all out for my second one. I feel like I've already gushed enough about the game and your playthrough, so unless you plan on doing any additional bonus videos for the game, it's been a real nice ride :) Excited for Tactica, but I understand if you'd rather take a break over the holidays and wait until January to begin with a new series.

    Ooof that was such a good and helpful video. Really thankful for that and I definitely will use this and the unit overview video if I ever do another run on maybe higher difficulty (I am usually more casual).
    Tho there is one thing I never really understand or understood. So is it right, that a character equipped with an Emblem ring "only" receives the extra stats, the sync skills and while engaged the Engage Skill and Engage Attack and of course the Emblem weapons, for some of those depending on the bond level? So the other inheritable skills aren't automatically active as long the Emblem is equipped on that unit, right? They are only accessible through inheritance no matter if or what rind is equipped on a certain character, right?
    Also I don't know if you would be willing to do this, but what I actually would find interesting is probably another video, that deals with certain gameplay mechanics that can make units stronger, most notably imo: everything about forging weapons (how to get the "most amount" of forging material, which types of weapons should be preferred when using forging weapons and also all the engravings that could be given from the Emblems with their pro/cons and on which weapon types they would probably find best use) and also ... gold management, cause Elyos seems to be in a big recession based on how the hell everything costs tons of gold in Engage (how to gain as much gold as possible, on which things gold should always be spent and on which things better never) and maybe also a ranking/overview about the classes existing in Engage?
    If feel like those to topics next to understanding the characters and their strengths and weaknesses and also the Emblems are/would be most beneficial to get the most of a run, especially for sth like Maddening for example.

      To me, it depends on how much you like Engage's maps. The DLC Emblem Paralogues are all, ESCEPT CAMILLA'S, really fun, and can be done at any point in a playthrough since their levels scale to your story progress.
      The Fell Xenologue is very hit-and-miss though, since you're using fixed characters. Some people don't like that, but if you like games like Advance Wars I think it's fine. The main problem is you have to beat it separately on every file in order to recruit its characters.

    • @BigKlingy

      It depends on what you like. Three Houses DLC characters are better integrated into the main game (besides Anna, who barely has any content) and beating Cindered Shadows once unlocks them for every playthrough afterwards. Cindered Shadows is also, I feel, broadly better of a DLC story than the Fell Xenologue and lets its characters level up, unfortunately it's also not canon. (Fell Xenologue IS canon, well, if you do it)
      But I never bothered with any of the other DLC in 3H's pass, like the sauna or other extra monastery things and outfits. Meanwhile I got a lot of use out of Engage's DLC Emblems.
      Really it just comes down to which game you like more. The DLC is basically just giving you more of the game, which is why I bought Engage's. (For 3H's I just wanted Cindered Shadows)
